I sent in my Sony DCR-VX2100 for repair last month after having discovered severe, blocky distortion in my footage that had never presented itself before (it ruined the shoot, incidentally). Went through Sony's online repair forms, paid the $249 repair fee, and got sent through to Precision Camera. Initially, I was pleased with the ""Status Meter"" that they have for jobs on their website.\r
\r
Then I got the camera back. Giddy to have have my baby back, I tested it out immediately...and the problem was still very clearly there. So, called Precision and had it sent back again.\r
\r
Then I got the camera back AGAIN. The service ticket claimed that everything checked out and they were unable to replicate the problem. Never mind the fact that upon removing the camera from the shipping box and popping a battery and a brand new tape in, the problem STILL clearly existed - anyone that had put a tape in and recorded for a few minutes could have seen it.\r
\r
Call Precision again. Shipping it back - this time, it's going to their head technician - and I include an AVI file showing the distortion, clear as day and a letter stating the specific problem AGAIN and to contact me with any concerns or questions. Finally, I asked politely for a refund if it shows up unfixed again.\r

Just got the camera back today. No phone calls from Precision before this. No contact outside of the ""We got your camera"" e-mail from a bot. And definitely no refund...which is interesting, because THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. Again, popped in a new blank tape and in a few minutes of video, the problem is clearly evident and most definitely replicated. Called Precision again and didn't really get anywhere (the tech had left for the day and frankly, I'm tired of the runaround here). After an hour on the phone with Sony, it's going directly to them. If THEY can't fix it, they told me I'm to be issued a new camera. If they CAN fix it, I'm left to question why, after THREE REPAIR REQUESTS, Precision couldn't.
Pros: The repair status tracker is nice...
Cons: ...if it was actually truthful about my camera being repaired! Poor communication, no repairs completed despite $249 payment
