Editorial review from Citysearch 5/26/2013

Sent my working camera for a repair but when it was returned it does not work at all. They said the part was not available to them so they was sending it back. Now the camera will not take photos or recognize the memory card.\r Do not know what they did or maybe what they took out but never send your camera to them of anything.\r I am looking into what can be done about this kind of business practice. more

Worst Customer Service Imaginable 12/5/2011

Giving One start because system will not accept Zero stars. They received my camera on Oct 11 to repair a broken battery door. By Oct 12 their website showed the status as ""Parts Ordered"". I contacted them 4 times by email and twice by phone to get an ETA on the parts. I received NO response. I then threaten to take action and I receive an email stating part will arrive on Nov 18. On Nov 18 the status changes to ""In Repair"". After an additional 3 emails and one phone call, on Dec 5 I receive a response that ""Parts need to be ordered"" and a 7-10 day delay. Mind you, that Panasonic has the part in stock and can deliver it to me in two days. I am reporting them to the BBB, NJ, CT, and TX State Attorney Generals, plus filing small claims suit in NJ. What a low-life, sleezeball outfit. more

Awful, experience 10/9/2011

So I started off with breaking the threads for my camera to mount onto a tripod. Other then that everything else worked perfectly. We have used precision camera before for some repairs a long time ago and they were excellent. Everything was done in house and was done quickly and well. Well I read some reviews here and saw it changed. My father didn't believe me so we used them again to repair my camera's tripod threads. Well after 2 weeks we learned they were not done why because it was sent out to texas!. After about a month they finally said the repair was done. Great I took it home tried to use it and to our surprise, it was not repaired, it was actually worse then we started. The threads were still the same broken. We tested it and heard the shutter working appropriately and sounded like it was taking shots, but to our surprise, the back monitor wasn't turning on. Even worse, after taking some shots without the monitor and plugin my camera into the computer none was being saved to the compact flash card. They didn't put it back together correctly some how the back was disconnected and totally disfunctional. We brought it in and told them first they didn't repair anything we asked them to and its in worse shape then it started, hoping that they would fix it and get it working again, otherwise I told them to get it back to what it originally was when we handed it to you and refund us our money. They agree'd as they are a certified canon repair store so they are required to follow canons certification requirements including a 30 day warranty after any repair that covers all that wasn't fixed within the first time even if the second repair is a more costly one. They said oh sorry we will fix that. Gave them a second chance to fix my camera after another month of waiting I got it back. Still they did not fix the mount rings, even worse got back home, the camera doesn't focus at all never goes into focus even on the brightest days, with all my lenses even an L series 200mm telephoto and I can't take any pictures unless I manually focus. Great and yet the original reason I brought it in is still not fixed. So I spent 130 dollars on a fix that never happened and wasted 2 months without this camera just to get it in worse condition then it started out. Don't use this place ever, I don't know if I'll ever get my camera fixed, and I have easily 2000 dollars in lenses, and I can't afford a new body, so at this time this company screwed my ability to continue my hobby. I am going to fight, I just hope that they fix this, then I am going to fight to get a refund, because they wasted my 3 months of time and fixed nothing other then making me take 3 trips to CT from MA all to learn that they didn't do what I paid for. Absolute scam artists and they need to loose their canon certification fast. more

Terrible Experience 9/20/2011

I'm so upset I didn't read peoples reviews before sending a camera off for repair. I had borrowed/broke a friends of mine camera and offered to fix it. The process has taken over 6 MONTHS to get the camera back and when they finally sent it (last week), it looks as though a car ran over it! You can't get service any worse than I did; numerous calls in, no calls back, and terrible excuses for the delays. Please please for your sake, bring your camera elsewhere for repairs!!! more

EVIL Non-Repair Facility 7/1/2011

I sent my malfunctioning Nikon LS-9000 scanner to the El Paso TX service location for Precision Camera on June 13, 2011. In the original Nikon Box, with all original packing, insured. I did not hear from them as to when or how they got it, despite two emails to the main office. Their website for tracking orders did NOT work. Finally, I called this morning [7/1/11], and was told ""Sorry, we couldn't fix it, its coming back"". AND COME BACK IT DID. The pack job was 1 Layer of large bubble wrap. AROUND A $2400 FRAGILE MACHINE, PEOPLE!!! It was wrapped in the most casual manner, in a crappy, bunged-in box, NOT THE GOOD NIKON BOX I SENT IT IN. This was packed like they were sending a coat to Grand-dad from eBay. The front panel of the scanner was pried off the chassis. No telling what other horrors await the REAL NIKON repair techs. THIS HAS TO BE THE MOST HALF-ASSED PACK JOB I have ever seen. I regret to my everlasting shame that I WAS TAKEN IN BY YOUR WEBSITE. I should have sent it to Nikon. This facility is clearly incompetent. Was the package insured? God only knows. But I know one thing now more

My Experience 6/22/2011

I bought a Nikon D60 camera from Best Buy in June of 2009. Dec. my wife and I went on a cruise, 40th. ann. This was the first malfunction. I sent the camera into BB for repair. It would not take a pic when you activated the shutter. Well it was off and on. It would and wouldn't. PC (Precision Camera) sent it back telling me it was the image sensor filter. OK. Happened again (2nd. issue), not sure how long later (I believe June of 2010). Same issue. Told by PC that it was MY problem. I was supposed to clean the filter. OK THIRD time was on another cruise for my sons wedding (Apr 2011). SAME PROBLEM. Cleaned the filter 2 times on the ship. No good. Took battery out, let it set for 30 sec. battery back in. Worked, Didn't work. Back to PC. This time they replaced 2 parts. Back to me. Missed daughters wedding. Camera back less then two weeks same issue. During my Grandaughters Graduation. This time they sent a repair paper that they fixed the lens. Didn't send it with the camera. Nice eh? BB finally exchanged it for me. Upgraded to D5100. PC refused to scrap it. Didn't have a clue what was wrong with it. Just kept on saying that it was a filter issue. Poor business. BB needs to change their repair contracts. more

Precision Camera Repair REALLY BAD Experience 6/16/2011

I sent a lens for repair and was received by them on May 5. It took 3 weeks for them to determine that I needed parts and they are waiting for them. After 3 more weeks and no response from them other then statingthey were waiting for part (and no idea when they would be in), I asked for a refund and return of my lens unrepaired. No one will answer me and I am ready to file a complaint with the State authorities...when I call I get a message! more

D300 Repair 4/21/2011

I sent my Nikon D300 in because the mirror would stay up and would not drop. But last fall I was shooting a football game and went to change my lense and dropped my camera and it hit the concrete and cracked the case by the trigger. First of all I didn't even bring that up to Precision when I sent it in, not only did they fix the mirror problem they fixed the crack by replacing the piece that was cracked. Also I emailed and let them know that I had to have it back by Friday because I had a shoot that Sunday, I recieved it like brand new on that Thursday. GREAT JOB!! and thank you very much. Great Service Fast Turn around 2/17/2011

Precision Camera was able to turn a repair around in less than a week. I needed my lens fixed fast for a charity event and they took care of it. Great customer service and follow up. more

The Tale of Two Cameras 11/11/2010

I sent in two point and shoot digital camera roughly two weeks apart from each other. I had two very different results when it came to repair speed and customer service. The first camera was the sloooooow side of Precision. When I sent it in it took them 4 days just to check the camera into repairs. Then in repair, after about a week, was put on hold waiting for parts. It was on hold for two months. If I had not been calling or emailing them no one from precision would have let me know what was up. They were very vague or slow to respond to my inquiries. This camera was then repaired and returned to me in fine working order with no visible signs of new damage. Apparently the camera needed a new control board or something and Lumix was out of stock which caused the delay. The second camera that I sent in was checked into repair upon arrival. It was repaired with a new lens assembly and it was back in our hands in less then two weeks. This camera also returned with no signs of damage or wear caused by Precision. So my biggest and only problem with them is, I wish that when they have an item and it is going to be delayed for what ever reason, I wold hope that they would call or email to let you know why the delay. I was fine with the delay but I shouldn't have to email and call several times to get the correct info. I would use them again but don't be in a rush because my two repairs ranged in time from two weeks to over two months more

Not bad at all! Great repair job 10/31/2010

Well Alost 3 months ago I sent my Kodak M1033 in for repair, it came back great! Fast repair only 3 days, and then shipping was only slow part. UPS Ground isn’t as fast as I thought. I checked repair status all through out the process online. A week ago my camera ended up messing up again. I chatted with PCR and they emailed me a pre-paid return label and I sent it in. They took 4 days to repair it. It was backlogged, but they shipped it out via UPS Next Day Air as a courtesy because this was the 2nd time. I would recommend again. The people were nice, attentive, and fixed my camera again. I love it! This was all warranty work through Kodak. They are also giving me an additional 90 day warranty. As my Kodak warranty has just expired, but all repaired cameras come with a 90 day warranty!\r Thank you PCR!~ more

Just want my lens back fixed or not! 10/5/2010

I sent my Canon Lens in for repair on 9/8 and it was received on 9/9 by precision camera. The status showed it going directly into repair and continued to show this status. On 9/20 I emailed to ask for an update, two days later on 9/22 I received one saying it would be done by 9/24. On 9/26 I sent another email asking for an update on 9/28 i received a reply saying it was still not done and I would be updated in 24-48 hours. Needless to say I never got an update or a response to subsequent emails. Today 10/5 when I checked their website for an update it is showing repair on hold parts on order. I tried calling but cannot get through and my emails go unanswered. At this point I just want my lens back fixed or not. Their website (and what I believe are fake reviews) show a fast turnaround and great customer service, I can say from personal experience this is far from the truth! NEVER AGAIN!!!!\r more

EVERYTHING YOU'D WANT 6/8/2010

I have a horrible camera (did the research; shouldn't have believed the reviewers) that broke twice, same thing (lens wouldn't retract). Precision fixed it both times under warranty repair. The camera malfunctioned right after receiving it back the second time. I am certain that this has nothing to do with Precision but is more evidence of what a bad camera I bought. I was impressed that after the second repair to get a call from Precision asking me how's the camera. I told Denise about the latest woe and she documented it and is waiting for me to send the camera. BAD CAMERA (Kodak z950), very very nice repair center. I'd use them again even if I had to pay. Both repairs were done fairly quickly (a positive) and the call from them to check is a SUPER POSITIVE. That really impressed me. Pros: good work in a reasonable amount of time more

They're earning my respect 5/26/2010

I've had a couple of Canon G7 cameras repaired here. When a repair didn't last, they fixed it again for no extra charge, even though it required a new lens. I'm glad they're here in the Hartford area. This is one of the largest camera repair facilities in the nation, and they take walk-in repairs and allow pickup as soon as the camera is repaired. This can save time and shipping costs. Just glad they're around. Pros: They do excellent repair work promptly Cons: Not always easy to reach a person by phone more

Excellent Service 9/5/2009

I sent my Kodak Z8612 in for repair of a defective flash unit (flash was stuck half-way up and would not retract). They fixed that and they also repaired the auto-focus, it focuses a lot quicked then it used to; I didn't realize that was a problem, until I got the camera back. I sent the camera in on 8/22 and got it back on 8/28. It was properly packed, they even charged the battery for me. Great service, just glad it was still under warranty. Pros: Prompt service done right more

Be Warned 8/20/2008

My wife and I have an 4 year old digital camera. Recently it started producing images with 1 pixel wide green lines displayed horizontally through the image. The camera was sent to Precision Camera to be repaired. Precision Camera called to state the camera had physical damage and will not be covered under warranty. The cost will be $105.45 to repair a broken lens assembly.\r \r I have two problems with that. First, the physical damage they are referring to is a ?dent? near the side of the lens assembly. The ?dent? has been there since a few weeks after we purchased the camera 4 years ago. The camera has successfully been in for service at Precision Camera, and successfully serviced, twice with the same ?dent?. It is not new damage, and the ?dent? certainly has nothing to do with the problem we are currently having.\r \r Second, their diagnosis is that the lens assembly is broken. The past two service trips were to fix a twice broken lens assembly. That is not the problem we are having at this time. The camera is recording 1 pixel wide green lines displayed horizontally onto the image. I'll admit that I am not a camera technician, but that sounds like the sensor problem to me, or possibly a power problem (sensor not getting enough juice to work correctly). One pixel wide lines through the image does NOT sound like a lens problem, I can not conceive a situation where a misaligned piece of glass or plastic would cause green lines to appear 1 pixel wide through the image. My non-technician assumption is that their technician saw a ?dent? near the side of the lens assembly and then refused to look any further.\r \r Precision Camera?s overall performance was terrible. I spoke with Evelyn, Stacie, and supervisor Miles regarding my case number 2096687. They were cordial and professional on the phone, but a bad diagnosis, excuse to not repair it, and claim that the camera had not previously been repaired left a very sour taste in my mouth. The camera was returned un-repaired.\r \r more

OMG! 7/10/2008

I sent my Sony DSC-S700 to PCR for repair. It's only 6 months old and under warranty.\r I may never see it again it sounds like they wrecked it! I have been in the electronic industry for 30 years and worked at authorized service centers. I know some of the tricks service centers pull, including padding the invoice to maximize profit. I sent in my camera with a simple zoom button problem. I get it back, huge repair (charged to Sony warranty) not one mention of my zoom button problem. Open the box, they never touched the zoom button, exact same problem! Got some scratches too. Called Sony, they said I had to return the camera to PCR, even though I pleaded for another shop.\r Send it back-now it's under Sony and PCR warranty. Now it has IMPACT DAMAGE?\r Damage from what? I held in my hand for one minute! Now I'm supposed to pay $162 to fix my $115 camera. Bad Company!!! Beware!!! I too think that an employee from PCR is submitting some of the 5 star reviews. They are all too vanilla to be believed. Pros: None that I can think of Cons: Where do I begin? more

Picture Perfect!!!! 6/11/2008

I had my Nikon 5700 a camera that I always wanted for 2 whole days when I managed to render it useless. A friend recommended Precision Camera - as is only natural I was apprehensive.I can't say enough about the ease of business and the level of professionalism. I had my camera back in about a week - and much to my amazement not only was it working but it literally worked better than it did when I purchased it. I was even able to track the process of my repair online. So - thank you. If I ever need assistance again Ill be sure to use Precision Camera- and in the meantime - Ill be recommeding all of my associates friends and relatives Pros: Online step-by-step status availability more

How many tries does it take to get it right? 6/9/2008

I sent in my Sony DCR-VX2100 for repair last month after having discovered severe, blocky distortion in my footage that had never presented itself before (it ruined the shoot, incidentally). Went through Sony's online repair forms, paid the $249 repair fee, and got sent through to Precision Camera. Initially, I was pleased with the ""Status Meter"" that they have for jobs on their website.\r \r Then I got the camera back. Giddy to have have my baby back, I tested it out immediately...and the problem was still very clearly there. So, called Precision and had it sent back again.\r \r Then I got the camera back AGAIN. The service ticket claimed that everything checked out and they were unable to replicate the problem. Never mind the fact that upon removing the camera from the shipping box and popping a battery and a brand new tape in, the problem STILL clearly existed - anyone that had put a tape in and recorded for a few minutes could have seen it.\r \r Call Precision again. Shipping it back - this time, it's going to their head technician - and I include an AVI file showing the distortion, clear as day and a letter stating the specific problem AGAIN and to contact me with any concerns or questions. Finally, I asked politely for a refund if it shows up unfixed again.\r \r Just got the camera back today. No phone calls from Precision before this. No contact outside of the ""We got your camera"" e-mail from a bot. And definitely no refund...which is interesting, because THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. Again, popped in a new blank tape and in a few minutes of video, the problem is clearly evident and most definitely replicated. Called Precision again and didn't really get anywhere (the tech had left for the day and frankly, I'm tired of the runaround here). After an hour on the phone with Sony, it's going directly to them. If THEY can't fix it, they told me I'm to be issued a new camera. If they CAN fix it, I'm left to question why, after THREE REPAIR REQUESTS, Precision couldn't. Pros: The repair status tracker is nice... Cons: ...if it was actually truthful about my camera being repaired! Poor communication, no repairs completed despite $249 payment more

Precision Camera is a winner! 5/5/2008

Precision Camera helped me out of a pinch when I fell and broke the viewfinder on my Kodak Easyshare camera only 19 days before my son's wedding! I express shipped the camera and was sent frequent updates on the status of the repair. To my tremendous surprise, only 4 days after receiving my camera, I found that it had been shipped back to me as good as new! I just cannot say enough about Precision Camera's customer service and repair work. Pros: Quick, reliable and expert service more
