Great service 3/3/2009

Just moved into a house that had an American Ranger alarm I guess put in by the builder. Collin got me hooked up in about two days. I felt bad since the first time their tech came out, I forgot to tell them that my phone line was not going to be working for another week so he couldn?t really do anything. I had to reschedule and their attitude was very nice about that since I basically wasted their time. What struck me though was that the technician (can?t remember his name) was nice enough to go ahead and activate the system on the first trip out so I could at least use it with just the siren only, that was nice. He didn?t even charge me either. Then after fighting with Time Warner about my phone line not working (that?s a whole other story!, Beware), I finally just had them install their Cell Link device which means the alarm doesn?t use the land line at all. Now that?s neat. I may just dump the phone line anyway since I found out its basically no different than any of these other ?internet? phone services that work only part of the time. Plus in my neighborhood, they steal hubcaps off of moving cars (its pretty rough) so I know all they will do is cut the phone line anyway. Cool people, great rates, and very helpful. updated my old system 2/24/2009

I had a really old alarm system (circa 1980) and Brett with Smith Thompson updated my old 'radio' unit (the old version of their wireless cell unit he called it). Actually he showed me where the old analog thing really hadnt been working since about four months ago when the wireless companies turned off the analog stuff and made everyone switch to gsm. Nobody from my old company even bothered to tell me but they sure cashed my check each month!! I would highly recommend these guys as they seem to know what they are doing. Very satisfied. No hidden costs which is nice for a change 2/19/2009

I've had Brinks for years and last year they started sending me a bill once a year usually around November telling me I had to pay for 'property tax'?? on the system. Since I found out they actually own the system I have to pay property tax on my own system which turns out I dont really own. Unreal. Its like you own your house, but you don't own your ceiling fan! Smith Thompson came out and upgraded my older system to theirs in about an hour. It only cost me about $ 89 total including the new cell deal which is better anyway for obvious reasons. And they promised me I own the system and their deal is month to month anyway so how can I lose? Outstanding offer and I can't find any fine print. Josh was very helpful, ask for him. My police officer neighbor referred them. 2/15/2009

Got their name from by wonderful policeman neighbor (love those guys, I'm so blessed to have him as a neighbor, my unsung heroes) . Angie's list gave them an A so good enough for me. I checked with a consumer reporting agency and Brinks had over 300 complaints and had an A+ rating? Whats wrong with this picture? My technician was Jeremy and he was fantastic. I canceled my telephone line too and saved a bunch since the cops say phone line monitoring is basically worthless. Makes since. Delighted with Smith Thompson. Took care of a very complex problem 2/13/2009

I have had ADT for years now and I got their name off of Frisco OnLine where they got glowing reviews. I have had a chronic problem with my siren making a faint noise for months now and couldnt get the other company to even acknowlege it! Turns out, Matt my tech from Smith Thompson fixed it in about twenty minutes simply by replacing a small resistor in the panel, that was it! Unbelievable. I'm a techie myself and I couldnt even figure it out. I happlily would recommend these guys since I love the cellular link to their monitoring station and I think that is important these days since burglars are much smarter. I'm must amazed that my last company couldnt remedy such a simple problem and they wanted to charge me a fortune just to come out. No land line to cut 2/9/2009

I read nearly all of the reviews including the bad ones and I called and signed up. What have I got to lose, its month to month anyway? Nice folks, fast call back and no phone line needed. I also checked the 'real' review sites like Angie's list (my wife is a member) and they got a straight A there, so works for me. Only one negative review there and dozens of great ones, they even had an explanation on the bad one that sounded pretty legit. I have my doubts about some of these anonmymous sites anyway where nobody leaves a real name. I'm pleased so far Pros: Saves money every month on phone lines Cons: None so far more

No contract = RUDE AND DIRT POOR SERVICE 2/3/2009

They said they could repair our wiring and make our existing system work. Instead they installed all their own equipment and never even fixed what they told us they would fix. They kept telling us that this wireless uplink thing would fix our problem but we were shocked to find out that it had nothing at all to do with our existing problem. Needless to say, after talking to a few different people at the office it seems they don't actually know what they are talking about and the installers had to keep calling the office themselves to get help with the install. After contacting the B. Business Bureau when this was all said and done I realized that they had over a dozen negative complaints just within the past year alone! Save your time and frustration and spend the extra money and go with another company or you will be sorry. Pros: Nothing pro about this company Cons: inexperienced installers more

Ryan, my rep at Smith Thompson warned me about 'auto renewal' contracts that most alarm companies use. Sure enough, when I called to cancel my old alarm company after switching to Smith Thompson, the told me I still had to pay three months more on a contract that I signed over six years ago... unbelievable! Ryan was nice enough to give me a couple of free months (unsolicited) to help take the sting out and I really appreciate that. Very honest sales guy and I won't forget it. Sorry rpcasey. I called and left a message for the guy everybody says is rude, Mark Thompson. He called me back later in the afternoon. Buddy, you got some explaining to do! THompson laughed when I brought up the fact that you trashed him everywhere on the internet. Guess what, he played back (over the phone) the actual recording of your conversation with both Collin and himself. You are the one completely out of line! You only mistake was writing such an obviously nasty review on multiple sites, you are just lucky he hasnt sued the snot of you. The recording is actually funny, you sound like a little kid that doenst get his way. I couldnt find anything they did wrong, you just didnt want to spend a nickel. Busted baby. I'm embarrassed! 1/25/2009

This is embarrassing. Something started beeping about little before midnight. Like an idiot, I could not find it for the life of me. I called the dispatcher from my alarm company (Smith Thompson) and they had a tech call me back. After about 45 minutes on the phone with the poor guy (I think Gary was his name) turns out it was my carbon monoxide detector in the hallway. I feel bad because I was probably a little rude to all of them but it had nothing to do with my alarm and I certainly owed them an apology. Figure least I can do is tell the story. Cell thing solved by Vonage phone problem 1/18/2009

I switched to one of the voice over internet phone deals about three months ago and little did I know (until I found out the hard way!!) that my Brinks alarm panel wouldnt even send a signal if my house got broken in to! I was furious to say the least. Then I called them and they basically said, 'tough' its not our fault. My coworker recommended Smith Thompson and they came out and totally swapped out my stuff in about an hour (cost was only about $ 89 for everything, not bad). Super service, nice technician. Can't complain about the prices either, half of what I was paying. *** VIP*** Beware if you don't have 'real' phone service or your using one of the fabulous fake phone things, your alarm probably won't work!! Save A Headache and Use A Company that Values Customer Service 1/14/2009

I contacted Smith Thompson Security to activate and monitor my home security system. They sent out an installer named Chris who fumbled around my house and constantly called into the office to get help with the installation. After an hour, Chris changed the story from what the Sales person Tyson told me to a new story. I asked for an explanation and he referred me to Collin, a manager. After explaining the difference between Tyson's story and Collin's story, I asked for an explanation. Collin never provided me an explanation, but rather repeated their policy. After many requests for an explanation he stated he would not argue with me. What an insult. We were not argueing. I was simply asking him a question he did not want to answer. As a result he decided to be disrespectful and accuse me of being arguementative to avert the real issue, their company's multiple stories. After hanging up on Collin for acting like an abnoxious child, I asked the installer to leave my property. I imediatly called Mark Thompson to express my dissatisfaction with his company. It was immidiatly evident that Mark has had many dissatisfied customer's since he was defensive and rude from the start. Mark never took responsibility for his companies miscommunication and he proceeded to insult and chastise his customers and the people in the DFW area. After a couple of minutes on the phone with Mark, it was clear where his employees get their rude and lack of customer respect... it was from the owner, Mark, the man who is noted on this site as being rude over and over again. Mark even insults the intelligence and validity of the people who posted on this site. Read his comments your self. He is defensive and rude, a true sign of ignorance. Do yourself a favor and Save A Headache and Use A Company that Values Customer Service. I am so happy I figured this out before I did business with a company like Smith Thompson Security! Nice company, kind of refreshing to deal with a family owned company that is actually in the USA! Pretty good deal, painless transition to wireless alarm service. Collin's nice too in customer service. Pros: actually a local company, thats nice Cons: can't find any more

Dallas cop says use them 1/6/2009

After a having a miserable experience with one of the nationwide companies, I took the advice of my neighbor who is a Dallas cop and called Smith Thompson. Only complaint I have and its small is that they are so busy, it took Ryan nearly a hour to call me back. He was real nice and apologized and just simply said we are so busy right now that we are calling back as quick as we can. (He was in Plano, not India, which is nice though!) He told me to go to their webite and watch the NBC news feature story on them, I did. Anyway, nice guy named Jeremy I think came out and after working for two hours fixing things from the last company, my alarm is now functioning great and monitored even without a lane line. If you are thinking about monitoring, definitely consider the wireless option because when Jeremy shocked me by telling me that all the burglar has to to is cut the wire on the side of my house, I almost fainted. If a policeman says they are good, they must be. I like it so far, nice prices too. Pros: Cops say they are the best Cons: none here more

Saw them on NBC news 1/6/2009

I saw the story about Smith Thompson on NBC news and got interested in their wireless cellular monitoring option where you dont have to have a phone line. A little skeptical of course but I called them, had to wait on hold about 10 minutes, but the deal really is good. Their prices are good, and no long term agreement. I tested them about a week later and they are fast on calling back, faster than my old company that hardly ever called me back !! I would recommend them. Pros: Saved a ton of money getting rid of phone line Cons: had to wait on hold a little longer than I like more

I guess some people have had problems, but I have not. This is my second house that has been done by Smith Thompson, and have always liked them. Whether it's been response time or service issues, it's always been resolved quickly. If I do ever have an issue similar to these other people, I can just cancel because there is no contract. I dont know much about your service but I do know that your profile shows your wrote the review pretending to be a customer getting great service. My name is Mark S. Thompson and I am the owner and president of Smith Thompson Security. After a customer brought this to my attention and I did some attempts to 'contact' or challenge some of these 'screen names' to at least call me and validate these extremely misleading and downright false and hurtful comments about our company. I would just pose this simple question to educated consumers out there. If Smith Thompson is that horrible, how did we win Angie's List Super Service and Consumers Choice awards two years in a row? Also why won't any of the 'customers' have the courage to contact me back? Could it be that you are a competitor like I read about all over business magazines these days? Maybe I'm just naive, but I can assure you nothing in these ridiculous comments even remotely resembles the truth. Smith Thompson is growing over thirty percent a year BECAUSE of our service and our rates being so low. That is why I have no problem leaving my REAL name and my real contact info and let the customer decide for themselves the truth. I would rather pay alittle more than put up with how rude these peaple are.They changed my key pad and my house siren didnt work after that,I didnt find that out until some months later.When I called them to let them know I was told that it did work at the time and something else went wrong and was my responsibility to pay for a service call to fix it.After two and a half years of being with them and never being late on payments you would think they would have replaced a forty dollar part to keep my buisness,I guess its true what they say;YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR Pros: CALLED ME ONCE ON MY CELL PHONE Cons: THEY THINK YOU NEED THEM MORE THAN THEY NEED YOU more
