Welome relief from 4 years of hassles!! 2/17/2012

Geez, 4 (nearly 5) years of pure hassles and headaches from 3 different alarm companies trying to correct an original mistake from the old Brinks alarm co. Finally, Jeremy from Smith Thmompson fixed it in about 20 minutes!!! I am not believing this, the guy comes out and finds it in seriously about 15 minutes! Very relieved and quite happy to recommend them to. Been wanting to lose the land line too and now I can since theirs doesn't need one. Was expecting a load of extra fees as well, but none, just the normal rate they advertise.I'm sold in Coppell. more

Saw their 'real' A+ rating on BBB and Angies and tried them out. Brett just left today (they do Saturdays which is helpful) . He was very strait forward and got a problem system (the old one we have had for years) switched over to the radio wireless monitoring. Land line getting dropped Monday! Even though he said we wouldn't be on line until midnight tonight, we set it off intentionally and their operators called in about 20 seconds. Very happy. more

I had an issue with our local police dept. charging me for false police alarms that they said smith thompson had called them out for. The first person I spoke with at smith thompson was slightly rude and not helpful at all except that I was able to discover they had my phone number incorrect. However, the second person I spoke with and the owner were nothing but nice. He investigated the alarms for me & discovered that they actually hadn't called the police for half of the alleged alarms. he even offered to credit my account. i'm very pleased with the promptness and friendliness with which my concerns were handled (except for my conversation with that one person who was apparently upset about working on sat) . overall a great company that i would recommend for security services. more

Go to a genuine review site like Angies or BBB if you want to see their PERFECT straight A ratings. These negative reviews are nothing but posts from angry competitors. And yes, I am a real customer, have been for 18 years now! I mean, seriously, the personal attacks on the owner who I've know for years now. He doesn't even routinely talk to customers since he is hardly ever there. They've got hundreds of employees so why would he need to?? Think about it, NO contract so what is there to lose, if you don't like em, cancel them! You can't do that with anybody else. Hear that competitors?! Try them, you won't be unhappy. Otherwise how could they possibly have perfect ratings on REAL review sites? more

The service is fine until you have an issue and then this vulgar, disrespectful, unprofessional conversation will follow from the owner. He obviously wasn't hugged enough growing up. Although they have some nice employees, I do not plan to spend another penny to support such a nasty hateful person! more

Unusually kind employee! 11/28/2011

Most assuredly ask for a pleasant young man named Shawn. He got us fixed up with new service after a most horrible experience with another company. Shawn was nice enough to go to my elderly mothers house a few blocks away and replace two batteries on some old smoke detectors that were beeping away. He refused any compensation and a tip and was just a doll, we very much appreciate the above and beyond service! Certainly don't see this these days. more

Fast and cheap 11/23/2011

Pretty darn simple hookup. Cheap too. Only gripe was they were a little late arriving at our appointment time, no big deal I guess. We're impressed and would use again. more

brought an old system back to life 11/14/2011

Gary, an excellent technician for them was able to breathe life back into my old, and I do mean old, burglar alarm. This thing's probably older than me! He only had to update the main control box and add the wireless modem and I was done. minimal cost and the monthly rate REALLY is $ 16.95, no BS extra charges like a phone bill. My mother said they had literally a 100 percent straight A rating and not a single negative report on Angies list. Pretty amazing. more

Cops and insurance co. referred them 11/7/2011

My neighbor Hal, a longtime policeman gave me their name plus my new homeowners insurance agent also said to call them. He said the cops like the cellular monitoring since punks can't cut the phone line and kill the alarm. Nice. Once I got my insurance discount, the monthly rate was kind of a wash anyway so good deal I guess. Happy at this point. more

Switched from 'old' radio to cellular 11/1/2011

We have had an old ADT radio back up link for over ten years now and they were charging us a fortune added on to our already too high monthly bill. Even paying the service annually and getting a small discount didn't even come close to Smith Thompson's rate. Less than half WITH CELLULAR TOO! Slam dunk for us. It was really 17 bucks a month for everything, no extras. Pretty nice deal indeed. Staff was very helpful as well. more

Jeff totally re did and upgraded my old system to the cell box (no phone line! Yesssssss). He was early to the appointment and the whole thing took maybe and hour and a half. No big deal and the cost was minimal. I'm delighted with this company and would certainly recommend them to my neighbors and friends. more

Only trust Angie's List 10/10/2011

Angies List has nearly 40 straight A postings on them and not a single bad one, and I guarantee you they (and I guess the BBB too) are the ONLY TRUE review sights out there. It appears the only bad reviews here involve customers needing work done on their burglar alarms and DON""T WANNA PAY FOR IT!! Imagine that. I/m a pool contractor and people gripe and bitch constantly when I come out and the pool equipment is a mess, not my fault!! My wife said we have had them for now for 9 years and we just had Jeff from Smith Thompson come out and install a new siren after the roofers destroyed ours. He charged me $ 41 including labor. Now what is unfair about that? We are tickled to death with them. Their prices have never increased that I can remember and their installers are experienced. So people, if your alarm (or pool, haha) is not even working when they get there, you might have to spend a little to get it working. Believe me, whatever you pay with them is a fraction of what the national guys will. Better yet, spend a few bucks and get on Angies list, it pays off in the long run. more

Run from this alarm monitoring company 10/7/2011

After years of paying consistent annual dues, once we decided to cancel due to new subdivision own monitoring service the owner called me personally and insulted me verbally. I have never known of such an unprofessional business owner and can't believe a company like this is still in business. Yes, their rates are competitive but what are you getting in return? Be warned and be careful! more

Very pleasant transition (for a change) 10/3/2011

My very friendly and helpful installing technician was Ray and I must say he was extremely helpful. He took care of a problem that I have been trying to get Brinks to do for 2 and and a half years now. Took him probably 20 minutes, just a bad window magnetic thing. He didn't even charge me for it. My total bill was about $ 270 including a whole year I chose to pay and they give you a free month if you do this. The Cell unit was about $ 85 i think so not bad. Ill save money in the first few months, I'm pretty thrilled. more

Very happy with long time service 9/26/2011

My room mate and I have had this company for nearly 13 years now and have never had a problem. In fact, perfect service is more like it. A tech named Jeremy just came out yesterday and added a few new door things and charged us right at $ 55 to add these magnetic things on new doors including over an hour labor. I thogut that was more than fair. Our rate has never changed that I can remember and we upgraded to wireless monitoring over a year ago and its fast! Very very happy. Their prices are just a fraction of everybody else that I can see. more

I first want everyone to know my name, it's Dwana. I don't feel the need to hide behind a fake 'screen name'. There is MUCH more to the bologna below posted by TM001. Much more. She has complained to everyone around here about Smith Thompson doing them wrong because they quoted her $ 49 (thats right, 49 bucks!!) to TOTALLY reinstall her system in a new closet after a remodel. The same tech did my house and told me about it. She makes it sound like just a simplle little deal. He said it would take 2 techs at least a day and a half to finish. Not a simple issue as she states. This is just a typical case of a good company getting trashed over something they are being totally fair abojt. I mean $ 49 for crying out loud. She even admits they were fantastic for a few years, right up until they needed to charge a small and very fair rate to completely redo her system. Such a crock, I hope they sue her! I'm so upset about this. I've only had them for about a month but they are fantastic, plus they are month to month so what is there to lose?? more

Only good while your system works 9/23/2011

They worked well for me for two years. Then we were updating the closed and called their technician to relocate the system in our house to a different room, and the alarm system started to malfunction. The control main board was then replaced with a new one and their tech was called out again on a paid service call to reprogram it, but refused to do that stating ""it's too much work"" and suggested instead that I should buy a complete new alarm system from them. more

Have had an alarm system for over twenty years now and neighbor told me about them. I switched to wireless monitoring after dropping our land line for cost savings. We are very happy with the new service and would highly recommend them. more

Fiance called and we needed a door contact replaced on a new side door damaged due to moisture. This is unreal but we called ASG, our current company (and will be for another 9 months thanks to this bs contract they say we still have with them. They wanted $ 129 plus parts just to swap a simple little plastic thing and a magnet!! Collin at Smith Thompson agreed to send a guy out (Doug, very nice BTW) and he did in literally 4 minutes and they charged us only $ 39 for the whole thing. I'm blown away at the service and they dont even monitor our place now. I have marked it down to call them in about 7 months and get signed up. VERY HAPPY more
