Best

I paid them for 11 months to get a free month according to their offer plus we got another two free since I mentioned Angies list. Their guy was real careful not to let my cat out...

Worst

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY ! NOT RECOMMENDED ! I have a bad experience with them. Friend of mine told me about this company, I went ahead called them without too much research...

Satisfied 8/29/2011

Showed up on time and did what they said they would. Happy. good price too more

Thank you, Angie's List! 8/25/2011

I'm an avid Angie's Lister and these guys are rated very high on their site so I called them. Smith Thompson definitely has the right price and the people there don't treat you like a number when you speak with them on the phone. Unlike all the other companies out there, they don't require a contract. I like that they have to perform to keep my business. more

Went wireless 8/23/2011

Never give any body 5 stars but i will upgrade them in a month or so if this this Uplink works as good as it has for the last week since signing up. Uplink is one of about 4 different wireless celular modems and it appears to be one of the top 2 units available. Other one is Telguard which is rated good too. Make sure they install the 2500 series and not the old analog device. 2500 is digital and is fast i will say. so far, happy with the service, tech was nice. more

Love them! 8/21/2011

My husband and I are first time homeowners and luckily I paid attention to what alarm companies my neighbors have because I would never have known about Smith Thompson. I would have called ADT or Brinks...the names that everyone knows. I called and they gave me all the info i needed over the phone and their tech Matt came out to hook my system up a few days later. A little late for his appt time, but he was very nice and knowledgable. You can't find a better deal and all my neighbors here in Frisco love them. more

Nice break from a 3 year hassle 8/20/2011

After a seemingly forever (over 3 years) hassle with Brinks (Now ADT I think), made the easy switch to wireless. No big deal, just have to spend a little on the cellular box but you'll save that in a matter of a few months. No brainer. Very strongly rec them, plus Shawn the guy who came out was very knowledgeable. Wife set it off last night and they called right back too. more

Whats to lose with no contract? 8/18/2011

Both cops I talked after my neighbors break in gave us their name, I have my doubts about these negative reviews since they have a spotless rep with them plus the usual review sites. Plus unlike the rest of the companies, if these guys are not doing a decent job, just drop them, since no fine print! Jeremy (an excellent installer) set us up about a month ago and we have been most pleased with them. We found them to be qucik on the callbacks and as friendly as can be. Don't see any problems at this point plus I doubt you will find a better deal since the wireless hookup is same price as regular phone line monitoring like we have had for years. more

Very, very poor service 8/17/2011

I am a small business owner and I can honestly say if I conducted my business the way these folks do I'd be down to only customers that were related to me---if even that. I'm assuming their business model works because most people who use their services do so only for the discount on their home owners insurance, and hence never need to deal with any one that works at this company aside from the one phone call to set up an appointment and one visit from the tech. If like me you've had real issues with their equipment, you will regret going with their service. They have no customer service skills whatsoever, and their equipment is as poor as their regard for their customers. more

Rudest, least professional company I've ever dealt with 8/17/2011

Worse than their substandard monitoring equipment is the rude and aggressive behavior exhibited by managers and staff that answer their phones. The first red flag came for me when I called to give them my security permit number and was treated very rudely by the guy on the other line, almost like he was doing me a favor for taking the information. When I asked to speak to the manager I was treated even more rudely. I'm guessing it is part of the culture of this company to treat customers like an imposition. I also had an issue with their equipment failing. They were very quick to try and absolve themselves of any wrong doing...very rudely and aggressively once more. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, to try and give them one more chance to make it right, but I'm not holding my breath. more

Delighted about saving a bundle 8/17/2011

I asked my State farm agent (Christy Brott in Frisco, VERY good btw) and my nephew is a Richardson police officer and they both said go with this company. The cellular option is awesome since I didn't have a 'real' landline anyway, just magicjack which the alarm will not work with contrary to what my last company (APEX) said. Anyway, if someone cuts my line on the edge fo the house, alarm still signals out, pretty neat. Cops like it he said too. Very happy, would use them again. more

Angies List and BBB say A+, works for me 8/13/2011

A coworker saw their Angies List ratings (I thought that thing was kind of a girl thing but now I think i'll spend a few bucks and join it, been screwed too many times on home repair!) and signed up with them. Practically everyone in the office has their monitoring done by Smith Thompson. Great deal, no fine print, and since I can't remember to turn off the alarm to let the dogs out, I set my system off probably twice a week at least and they call me back mucho fast. Love em, no complaints. Kinda makes me curious too about these nasty negative complaints?? How can they be nearly perfect on BBB as well? Makes we wonder if they nothing more than a competitor posting them. Hmmmmmm. Definitely recommend them. Plus they are the only company that you can fire if you don't like them, THERES NO CONTRACT!! more

Buyer Beware 8/8/2011

This company has to be among the worst alarm monitoring companies I have ever dealt with. They act like it's an imposition to deal with the customer. I suppose you get what you pay for. They may be among the least expensive, but that price comes with many drawbacks not the least of which is poor customer service, a phone system staffed with rude unprofessional people and managers, and sub standard monitoring equipment. My house was burglarized and their motion detectors did not work. I called to inform them and was treated like I was at fault. I never received an apology from them. BUYER BEWARE with these people...there is a reason they act like they dont need your business. They were very quick to let me know they were not in the insurance business which indicates to me this is not the first time their equipment and monitoring service has failed a customer. more

Made it easy to sign up! 7/9/2011

The whole process was easy with these guys! First let me tell you the crap I had to go through with ADT...So I call ADT and get a ""sales"" person on the phone. Well, they couldn't answer basic questions like what does a motion detector cost? Or can I add a door sensor? THEY COULDN'T EVEN TELL ME IF MY SYSTEM IS COMPATIBLE! I had the manufacturer and model number ready but the ""sales"" person was clueless. ADT forces you to schedule a time with a real salesperson to come out to your house to give an ""assessment"" first, so reluctantly I did it. The ADT sales person came out to our house in the evening to give an assessment which really just turned into a high pressure sales pitch. Their monthly pricing seemed high to begin with but then the sales person said I would have to sign a THREE YEAR CONTRACT! Who would ever want to commit to a company without even knowing if they are really any good first? My wife wanted to go with ADT because it was a ""known"" name but I went with my gut feeling and passed on their ""deal"". I went back to researching companies... Smith Thompson Security popped up on a google search so I checked out their website. Their website very clear-cut and I liked that they are Texas based, so I gave them a call. My sales person Josh, was able to answer EVERY pricing question I had right over the phone!! I appreciated that because I had already wasted an entire evening with the ADT guy. Josh said I had a compatible system because it's a DSC model. He told me upfront that they are $16.95, no contract, and that's the way it's been for 30 years!! This was such a contrast to ADT's approach I jumped at the deal. When Smith Thompson's technician Gary came out, it took him all of about 45 minutes to program and demonstrate the system. THIS IS HOW TO RUN A COMPANY! They made it easy to buy from them, and I would do it again. more

Extremely Happy w/ our service thus far! 1/24/2011

Have called several companies in our search for a home security service and ended up going with Smith Thompson. I chose to write an early review on my experience so far, especially after seeing some bit of debate over whether or not people should use this company, to give folks an honest opinion from a regular person that has no incentive to either promote or bash this company. I called STSS late last week inquiring about service. I liked that there would be no contract (just 30 days to cancel), the option for cellular link, and they weren't trying to nickel and dime me for every little feature like ADT did. If their response center goes down due to weather, they are set up to switch over to remote monitoring... so this cut the 'advantage of ADT' in having various centers around the States. The guy who took my call (after a very short wait on the phone) answered all my questions confidently and calmly. It also turned out a few of the pieces of equipment we wanted were on sale at the time I called, but in general their equipment fees and monthly pricing were more favorably priced than other companies I called... bonus! I didn't ever feel like I was getting a major sales pitch like I did w/ the ADT guy that game to my house a week ago (who couldn't even explain to me why ADT was better than other companies), or hounded for days about whether or not I was going to select their company (this was another company called Smith Monitoring in Houston) as I continued to shop around. I got my STSS system installed just 3 days after calling. Lloyd was my tech and he was on-time, very knowledgable, a bit jokey (all in good nature!) but still very professional, and was very thorough w/ the install. Upon testing everything, he noted there was an issue w/ the front door sensor and fixed it right up. No extra charge. After the install, he walked me through how to use the keypads, the remote, and gave some practical suggestions of how to use the system - esp. with young kids in the house that know how to unlock and open doors. So far, I have been impressed. Friendly customer service thus far, nice/decreet-looking keypads, etc. Lloyd even instructed me about how I need to get an alarm permit and knew how much it would be for my particular county. We will be up & running by tonight/tomorrow morning. I will be back to provide another review after we get a chance to test it out (if all goes well, I will upgrade my rating from 4 to 5 stars!). But so far, so good! ************************** This is an update to my previous review and upgrade from 4 stars to 5 now that we've tested the system a few times. We've had their service now for a couple of weeks and have accidentally set off the alarm twice. The first time, I had gone outside where there was a lot of noise due to the landscapers that were at our home at the time. So when I didn't pick up my cell phone (didn't hear!), they called my husband (who had been unable to pick up as he was in a meeting), and then my parents.... just as we had instructed them to do on our list of contacts. I later saw the time of the call from ST and it had to have been within a minute or two of when I went outside, possibly less. Then, last night I tripped it again going out to cover some plants around 10:15 PM. The alarm went off immediately and ST called within 30 seconds. I am convinced that all these negative reviews out there have to be false as some others have implied because my experience has been nothing but terrific. Very happy we supported a local business and very happy with the service they are providing. Remember there is no contract like most other services require. So try it for yourself before giving in to internet review fears... if you aren't happy, you can always cancel & go elsewhere. But I'm pretty sure you won't. more

Great experience with installation 1/6/2011

Took a chance after reading the mixed reviews and just had my system installed by Doug B. So far GREAT experience for someone not easily pleased. Started with him calling ahead to let me know arrival time and arrived on time. Put shoe covers on to keep floors clean. Installed quickly and added new motion detector based on info he shared. Reviewed use of system & paperwork - very thorough & personable. Answered some questions regarding bad reviews (e.g. Called customer before police. That is their stated policy. If you want a quick call to police only list one number to notify when alarm goes off.) more

A+ Service provided as promised! 12/22/2010

I had ADT before and received a coupon in the mail for Smith Thompson and their wireless monitoring. Luckily they could use my system and all they had to do was install that transmitter in my closet. It only cost me $89 and my bill dropped to 16.95 a month. Everything works perfectly! more

Love them! 8/4/2010

Smith Thompson came out to my house in Dallas yesterday and setup a system for me. Their tech Jeff was extremely professional and polite. He showed me how to use the system and helped me setup my code. So far I'm impressed with the service and the price!! So glad I found them!! more

Great company 7/18/2010

I have had Smith Thompson for 2 years now. I searched for them to look up their phone number because I needed to update my call information with them. That's when I saw these perplexing reviews so I had to share my experience. When I originally called their sales department, I waited for a few minutes on hold and when the sales person came on, he was able to give me actual prices over the phone without needing to send someone to give a sales pitch. I got the low down on the phone, and made an appointment. Easy breezy. Their tech came out and reprogrammed my system and added their wireless transmitter. The whole process took about an hour and it was online. I just don't understand these reviews. It's either the best experience ever, or the worst of their life. For me it's been great so I suspect unreasonable people or competitors posting. I did my due diligence to research alarm companies before I called any and the fact that they don't force you to sign a contract shows me they are confident enough that they will keep you with good service without one. I am here to tell you it's true. They have never raised my rate, they have never failed to respond to my alarm system, and have never been rude to me. If that happens, I have the ability to cancel them (but I'm not worried by now). Pros: Always been easy to deal with. more

WORST Company 7/16/2010

I had my worst experience with these guys...and it felt like the usual Moms and Pops company...with a very small team and not a lot maturity with the owner or their team. Not sure how they react when we are in emergency...but with their short temper and rude and everything...i don't want to go near them..BEWARE..you were warned!! Pros: Price Cons: Customer Service, Attitude .....small team...immature more
