Since I don't trust (for the most part) anonymous 'review' sites, I did the Angies list thing and BBB and found them. Just had to wait about a week which was no big deal I guess, I was just trying to get hooked up before a vacation. But overall, very satisfied. Cell thing is neat. If there's a way a burglar can beat it, I'd like to know, don't see how though. Pros: best prices, what else is there?? Cons: Just had to wait about a week.. more

After reading through these reviews I wasn't sure. But I went to the Better Business Bureau website and Smith Thompson has A+ rating. Anyone, including competition can post here, so I wanted an actual reputable review site. After seeing the A+ rating, I had my wife sign us up for Smith Thompson wireless service and it's been really great! We live in Richardson and they simply took over my system. Worst experience of my life 6/3/2010

I've never had a business owner tell me he didn't need me as a customer until I talked to Mr. Thompson. I spoke with him concerning a repair I needed on my alarm system and during the course of asking questions about billing and work performed, he launched into a screaming tirade. Very happy!! 5/7/2010

I just had ST installed my alarm , new keypads, uplink monitor and technician checked and tested all doors /windows . He even went out of his way to locate and fixed the sensor to my entry door which was yanked off by the door installer when I recently replaced my front door. Overall very happy with the service ... now I don't need my land line and my home is secured at a great price .. ! Pros: On time, Great Price, Fast .thorough install, Experienced Cons: none so far more

Avoid this company 5/1/2010

I scheduled installation of an alarm system with this company. The earliest they could install the system was 3 weeks later. I liked the price so I waited. When the technician arrived he informed me that there would be an additional $300 charge. He informed me that he ""could not discount"" the charge, but if I waited until 10:00am (on a Saturday) I could call the manager and they would delete the charge and he would come back and install the alarm that day. Turns out, this was untrue. No one was in the office that could ""discount"" the charge (keep in mind that there should have not been a charge at all. Awesome Prices and Great Service. 4/11/2010

Been with Smith Thompson now for a few months and have been extremely happy so far. Switched to Smith Thompson due to their awesome prices. Old alarm company wanted to charge me over 700 dollars to install alarmnet radio back up unit. Was able to get the uplink unit with S T for 89 bucks, and they were able to connect it to my existing alarm panel. Also had them add some additional equipment and their prices were extremely reasonable. I am very pleased. The tech that came out to connect my system was very knowledgeable and extremely customer oriented. I work in the alarm industry, for a competitor to S T, so I have a lot of knowledge about the industry. Lets just say I have been really impressed with Smith Thompson, especially in regards to their call back time on alarms. Ive had ADT and the company I work for monitor my house, and I have to say that their call back time beats both of my former alarm companies. Great Job Smith Thompson. Keep up the good job. THEY NEVER CALLED WHEN MY ALARM WENT OFF 3/30/2010

I have them come to my house to put alarm on. They claim cheap service and equipment. It is but my service with them never worked. The alarm went off many times over 3 months and they never called back. I asked them to come out to look at it but it took them 5 days to see it. Great Deal, Great Service! 3/27/2010

Smith Thompson took over my system that was previously monitored by ADT. I bought their Uplink transmitter for $89 to go wireless. Then I canceled my landline and I'm saving about $30 a month. Smith Thompson's rate is only $16.95 too. HALF OF ADT's rate lol! Everything has been great so far! Pros: Price & Quality Cons: None so far! more

OWNER CUSSED OUT MY FIANCE!!! 3/3/2010

No were are not a real customer because we cancelled their service the same day the tech was there...READ ON. I was helping my fiance shop for an alarm system for her home when we stumbled accross Smith Thompson Security out of Plano. Looking back it feels like we stepped in ****! Normally it's not easy to get my gander up but this company really blind sided us. My fiance called Smith Thompson and bought their service for her home and scheduled a time for a technician to come out and activate the alarm system her builder already installed. I met the technician since my fiance had to work. He arrived on time but it was down hill from there. The technician found that the builder had replaced one window and one door before my fiance moved in and he said the door and window need magnets to get those parts of the system working. He proceeded to tell me that he would not do and to call the builder and get him to do it! I said, ""I thought thats why my fiance called you!"". He said your service does not come with any warranty and that we would have to get the alarm working on our own. Frustrated, i called their office to speak with a manager. They put me on the phone with Mark Thompson, the owner. I thought, ""great, i'm sure he'll get this resolved."" I explained my concerns and issues to Mark Thompson. Meanwhile my fiance gets home from work and is wondering why the security company is still there. It took the technician over 4 hours to activate the alarm system. Mark Thompson gets on the phone and demands to speak with my fiance instead of me. Blindsided she picks up the line and he immediately he starts cussing her out, ""our service is cheaper than any other company out there and if you don't want it then God****** we'll just pull it out right now and you can bring it down to our office. This is bull****, he said. We don't need your business just tell the tech to pull the damn thing out and we'll find another customer."" Cons: WENT WITH CHEAP...AND THATS WHAT WE GOT! more

These negative complaints are bogus. 2/18/2010

Here is you 4 star rating that some many users were questioning the absence of :-) I am only responding here because I too am a small business owner and it wouldn't surprise me at all if these complaints were bogus. I suspect that Mark is right and all of these 1 star complains are false or greatly exagerated by a annoyed cusotmer (you can't please everyone cause the general public is cRaZy, if you have ever worked with a wide range of the general public, you know what I'm talking about). I have used Smith Thomson in Richardson, TX for 7 years now with now problems or complains. So has my father in law. I have also interacted with them 3 times in person at my house. Service works great, once for an upgrade. I have even spoke to Mark once before I think, and he was very professional. Best and Most Reasonbly Priced Security Around! 1/21/2010

We moved to Frisco 11 years ago. Looked at several security companies and orginally went with Brinks. A year later a neighbor told us about Smith-Thompson. No contracts and a set rate! The cost was about a third of what we were paying with Brinks. When our contract was up, we gave S-T a try and have NEVER looked back. Pros: Reliable and affordable Cons: Haven't found any more

They are killing the competition! 11/18/2009

I was in the burglar alarm business for over 15 years in Ft. Worth and Smith Thompson is literally re-inventing the whole industry. I KNOW EXACTLY WHY these hateful nut cases are trying to trash Thompson personally, its simple, he is killy the competition with his wireless monitoring setup. When I (we) would go out on bids and the clients would mention they were taking quotes from a few different companies, including Smith T, I would just fold up my book and tell them, 'no sense trying to compete, cant touch em.' I just heard they are thinking about franchising in other areas and I guarantee you I will try their model. It's bullet proof. Trying to make Marc Thompson out to be the devil ain't working guys, he is just beating you at your own game. Trash someone else.. Pros: Price, Service, no phone line monitoring more

Horrible Service from Owner 11/13/2009

I had a run in with the owner on mothers day 2 years ago and he was the most unprofessional person I have dealt with. No alarm went off and they called the police out. After dealing with the police at the door early in the morning I called and asked what happened they stated the alarm went off. I stated to the rep I didn't hear anything please look into this more carefully and they found that it was there mistake. I stated that if I get fined for the police coming out on a false alarm I expect them to pay. She said you would not get anything and stated if your not happy you can speak to my boss. The owner called me back after I left a message and began to say if you don't like my service - leave. I have hundreds of people lined up needing service and that anywhere you go you'll pay more. I stated it was not a matter of price but service and stated your attitude is unprofessional. We continued to argue until I decided to cancel service. Pros: price Cons: rude, poor service more

Fast call backs 7/20/2009

They got me out of a door to door alarm company deal (beware!) in the nick of time (you ONLY have 3 days people to cancel). I don't know what I was thinking when we signed up with a Utah company for alarm service. Smith Thompson is here in Plano. My test of any alarm company is how fast they call back after the alarm is sounded and I'm very satisfied with the response. I'm happy. Pros: Got me out of door to door alarm deal disaster! The 'other' side of a negative review 5/6/2009

I am the customer service rep who assisted 'busymom' who recently posted this negative review below. We monitor these review sites regularly for any misleading information and we strive to maintain a perfect customer service reputation and I felt it was particularly necessary to respond to this one. Please bear in mind we record all of our telephone conversations and I did in fact go back and review all conversations with this lady. It was in fact snowing that day and all of our techs wear shoe covers year round but she did want him 'tracking in wet snow' as she stated in her emails. This is understandable. We were unable to test a few openings as a result. It is also very important for people to understand that we DID NOT INSTALL her original system, we were only converting an existing system to our local Plano monitoring center. We have no problem repairing minor problems with systems that we didn't install and we normally dont even charge for it but if we have to go back, we do charge a small fee of usually $ 25 to $ 38 just to cover our labor. Our competitors charge usually over $ 100 just for the first 30 minutes! We feel this is fair especially since its not even our system to begin with. She also fails to mention that there were other issues with her system that we did not even charge to correct (low power supply, etc). You will notice in her review that we she demanded a refund of only $ 16.95. This would prove the fact that we didnt install or charge her for a faulty system. Otherwise, she would be demanding a full refund of a whole new system. Again, this was not even our system and was certainly not our fault. This is a completely unfair review and doesnt even remotely illustrate what actually happened. We also have recordings of a very beligerent person being extremely unkind to our operator staff and we did have to forcefully inform her to stop harrassing our staff. There was never any threat of legal action on either side. We are very sorry that this occurred but we feel we are being unfairly blamed for something that has nothing to do with us. Thank you. Horrible customer service:spare me the horror 5/5/2009

First of all the tech was rude .Second, when it was installed, it was snowing and I did not open the backyard door. I opened it 2 days later and discovered technical problems. Called the number, it went to voicemail (last thing I want calling security service). The guy called back and said I need to pay $38 or 40 for someone to come out and check it. I said they should have installed it correctly in the first place as it was not even 48 hrs from the time it was installed. He screamed ""I don't care"".It was surreal. My phone line got cut! 5/4/2009

After my home got broken in to and they cut my phone line on the side of my house (my last company NEVER told me this could happen!) I switched to Smith Thompson and the cellular monitoring hookup. Very neat. I wish I had thought of this before this happened. ASG, my last company also told me I still had 9 months left on my 'contract'. I told them to stick it in their ear. Helped me out of my ridiculous contract! 4/2/2009

Syrus, my sales rep at Smith Thompson helped me get out of my ridiculous 'auto renewing' contract with my old company. What a hassle, you can get out of your mortgage easier than a Brinks contract. The stupid thing renews itself without you knowing about it, I'm dead serious. Watch out people, I warned you. Smith Thompson is a month to month deal and they havent rasied their rates in over thirty years. And they are local. I'm extremely happy. Pros: Finally a truthful alarm company more

very impressive deal 3/20/2009

Other than taking a few days to get to me (they are busy I guess) the deal is really quite impressive, especially the 'no phone line' thing. No way a burglar can beat this cellular deal. Tech was nice too. Pros: good pricing, fast operators Cons: just took a few days to get me hooked up more
