Best food in town! 9/22/2006

Jazzy and artsy atmosphere, fun eclectic menu and variety of cocktails, and delicious food! Another feature I appreciate about this restaurant is that the music (before 10/10:30pm) is loud enough to be enjoyable, but quiet enough to easily converse with others. We highly recommend it! more

Great Food, Real Nice People 9/21/2006

Went last week and had a great time. The food was excellent and, despite the place being packed, our service was well-paced and attentive (we did not feel like we were being rushed although I'm sure they needed the table). The atmosphere was fun, energetic, and with the open kitchen and the large high ceiling'd dinng room, it felt very euro, Paris in the 1960's a la ""La Cupole"". I had a wonderful lavendar crusted striped bass, a roasted wild mushroom app which I'm still licking my lips over, and a sorbet and chilled vodka parfait ""Le Colonel"" which did double duty as dessert and after dinner cocktail. Pros: Food, Friendly Attentive Service, Stunning Decor more

Sunday brunch 9/2/2006

Visiting Philadelphia and selected Patou for a Sunday brundh based on information gleaned from the web. This is what we experienced: Pros: Not crowded Cons: SERVICE more

A Firm Success 7/14/2006

My firm had its end of fiscal year party at Patou. It was terrific. There were about 100 of us for cocktails and dinner, so I expected the usual rubber chicken dinner. Not so at Patou. The food was great, and the drinks were tip-top. I was surprised that my firm treated us to a gourmet experience, at such a cool spot. I have gone back with friends and the regular dinner menu is even more awesome. Pros: Food Drinks Cool Vibe more

Unforgettable Rehearsal Dinner 7/9/2006

I just had my rehearsal dinner at Patou and it has truly been a wonderful experience. Too bad I did not choose Chef Patrice Rames to cook for my wedding dinner reception as well! Pros: Great Staff, Excellent food more

All that Jazz and More 7/7/2006

My lady friends and I went to Patou last night and were treated to a wonderful meal served to us by gracious waitstaff, while listening to a terrific jazz quartet. We enjoyed all our dishes immensely, of special note was a chilled watercress soup garnished with grilled jumbo shrimp (watercress soup being a personal favorite of mine). One of the things we enjoyed most about our experience was that our group, hip ladies in our mid-sixties, felt equally at home with the stylish 20 to 30 somethings at the next tables, as well as the business crowd types at the bar. The atmosphere was relaxed, welcoming, graceful and cosmopolitan. Pros: Ambiance Food Service Jazz more

The Perfect Place! 7/6/2006

Everytime I go to Patou, I am inundated with excellent customer service, delectible cuisine, and a relaxing atmosphere. It is one of my favorite places to go after a long days work to relax with friends, and the owner/chef is not too bad to look at! more

Something unexpected 5/24/2006

My wife and I have walked past Patou a number of times but decided this past weekend to come in for dinner. Although we didn't have a reservation, the hostess quickly got us a table in the dining room. Wow! This place is as big as a cruise ship and we were pleasantly surprised by the jazz group with the great singer. Our meal was just as good. I had the whole fish ( a 2 lb bronzino cooked perfectly) that our waitress fileted at the table and my wife had the filet. We both took home enough food to have lunch the next day. Bravo Patou! Pros: portions, jazz, service more

Awesome Brunch! 5/24/2006

I went to Patou for the first time for Mother's Day and tried their Sunday brunch which I have to say was amazing. What I liked most about it is the fact that it was a buffet style; you can be tempted by everything (which happened to be my case) and still pay $20 a person! Needless to say that the food was great. As far as the service they did a great job even though the restaurant was completely full. The check took some time to arrive but that was it. I registered to their fidelity program which includes a 3-course meal for $30 all year long at both Patou and Bistro Tropeze. I'll be back! Thank you, Patou! Pros: Brunch Buffet, Food, Ambiance more

Unless you have all the time in the world... 5/22/2006

...don't waste yours. When we arrived, we were given the excuse that the restaurant was understaffed and that there were several large parties- and it certainly showed. Our waiter was largely absent and inattentive throughout our visit. The lobster tart looked tasty, but was too salty to be edible. When I sent it back, the manager informed me that tapenade is salty (no kidding!) but took it off of the check. He did admit later on that the chef agreed with me. The tuna tartare was less salty, but just average. Had the lavender crust on my halibut not been completely charred, it probably would have been tasty. The manager tried to make up for the wait with complimentary champagne. The waiter never even came back offer us anything else- even the check! We finally got tired of waiting and left enough cash to cover the tab. Pros: decor, live music Cons: service, the food more

Exceeded My Expectations!!! 5/21/2006

Patau is a real star in the crowded Old City restaurant scene. I just held a birthday dinner party for 16 people and everything was perfect, which is quite an accomplishment for a restaurant on a busy Saturday night. From the beautiful space to the amazing menu every guest was simply blown away. Many of my friends were long time regulars of Chef Patrice's other restaurant Bistro St Tropez and they all had the same reaction that this was even better. The food was so wonderful true to its french roots and wonderfully paired with wine from Fleet Street distributors which as all Moore Brother fans know represents some of the most amazing small vineyards in France whose bottles you do not see in most restaurants. I am looking forward to returning to Patau as soon as possible for another meal. more

Should have walked out 5/14/2006

Don't follow in my footsteps. I arrived on time for my 7PM reservation with my wife and the waitress took me past several empty tables to the bar. There were probably 10 other people at the bar, not to crowded for a Saturday night and only one bartender was on hand. About 20 minutes later, the bartender finally reconized my existernce and poured me a glass of Chardonay. As I was about to pick up the wine glass and quench my frustration, the hostess appeared and said our table was ready. The chair was broken and I couldn't believe the hostess chose to give us the broken chair when there were several other good one that were available. We moved. The waitress was nice but was practicing her magic skills because she disappeared for most of our diner. The hostess was stuck doing her job and was not all there. Cons: lame service, Understaffed, tacky decor more

User review by frankbarstoll 3/14/2006

Excellent I loved it, my girlfriend and I dined in many restaurants in Philadelphia and Patou really was one of the best dinner we had. The tuna tartare remind me of when I was in France. The fried calamari was golden crispy and delicious then the waitress brought the skate which was amazing I have never see such a beautiful presentation then we had the salmon brochettes which were cooked to the perfection. We finished our dinner with a warm french apple tart and vanilla ice cream and also an assortment of sorbets. The service was professional and friendly. I will definitley go back. Pros: decor, high ceiling, good value more

A very happy New Year! 1/29/2006

My husband and I have had many great meals at Patou but New Years Eve was the very best! When thinking that for special occasions you may not get the best of food and service, we were delighted to have what we and our friends thought was the best meal yet at Patou! We wouldn't hesitate to go there for other special occasions as well as our normal dinners there! more

A Very Happy New Year 1/4/2006

We went for Patou's special New Years Eve Dinner and party and it was great all around. Dinner started with a seafood platter with fresh oysters, lobster tail, smoked salmon and more, followed by an excellent selection of apps, including escargots and foie gras, for the main course we had an excellent lobster thermidor and filet mignon, dessert was a charming sampoler of many petites desserts. We opted for the chef selected wine pairings with each course. All was excellent, no skimping on quality or portions. We stayed for the party after and danced to euro style music whle sipping on french champagne. The crowd was age and ethnically diverse, gracious, classy and fun. Great time, great place. Pros: Food, Ambiance, People more

Very Yummy 12/18/2005

We have been impressed by dinner at Patou, always very good, so we gave brunch a try. Very yummy! Brunch is an extensive buffet of hot entrees, cold salads, charcuterie, cheeses, soups, other dishes such as lobster in puff pastry, and in addition you can request made to order specialty omelettes and french toast. All this was followed by an individually served dessert sampler which had treats such as chocolate mousse cake, mini friut tarts, fresh baked french cookies. We ate ourselves silly for $20! The restaurant by day is as beautiful as at night, open, airy, with sunlight streaming in from above through atrium windows. Highly recommended for dinner and brunch! Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere more

Excellent - Highly Recommended 12/2/2005

An excellent, tasty, welcoming dining experience. Menu offerings are broad, and for all four of us, our selections were excellent. A particular winner was the ""deconstructed"" boullaibaisse (french golden soup with fresh fish), the broth is served in a fondue pot with fresh raw monkfish, scallops and lobster served on the side to be cooked on skewers in the hot broth at the table. Also included, on the side, a shot of Pastis to drink or to toss into the soup. Wine list is a mix of french, italian, spanish and greek wines, several hard to find selections. Pricewise, a bargain at an average cost of $38 for three courses. Staff was knowledgeable and refreshingly committed to our dining happiness. Other notes, the restaurant is visually stunning, the kithchen is open to the main dining room allowing you to watch all the cooking action for yourself. We highly recommend Patou. Pros: Food, Service, Kitchen more

Awful - Avoid 11/19/2005

The setting was the only redeeming quality of this old city french restaurant. Both the calamari and lobster fritter appetizers were nothing short of a disaster. Unfortunately the meal did not improve with the entrees. The pork was so lemoney I felt I was drinking lemonade and I could hardly cut it let alone try to chew it. The duck, along the same lines, was disappointing even in its appearance. While ordered medium-rare - it was both well-done and absolutely devoid of any taste. Thank god, alcohol was ordered with the meal. Unless you are willing to settle for an overpriced, below-average ""trendy"" French restaurant - do not venture past Patou's doors. more

Great Meal Great Wine Great Service 10/9/2005

Great experience. Myself, my husband and two colleagues went for Restaurant Week. We were surprised by the Patou's many menu offerings for Restaurant Week as most places limit their RW menus to few and cheap items. Everything we had was well-prepared and tasty, some standouts being the lobster consomme, a perfectly prepared salmon, and a apricot glazed lavendar mousse cake. The wine list was mostly french with excellent selections in many price ranges. There also are some wines on a Chef's reserve list which are stellar and difficult to find. Service was pleasant, knowledgable and attentive. We asked to see the regular menu for future reference and were surprised that the regular menu was quite large, creative yet classic, and very reasonably priced (entree average price around $22). The place itself is beautiful and decidedly euro-cosmo. We all were glad we ""discovered"" this place and highly recommend it to others. Pros: food/wine, service, decor more

Far from good; good from far 9/19/2005

Everything (from the food to the decor to the service) just seemed ""OK""...nothing extrodinary, nothing impressive. Seemed like everything had something wrong with it. For appitizers, friend ordered calamari which was good but a little too salty where has I got a mushroom plate which could have been a filler on an entree plate (later on I realized it WAS on my friend's entree). Their menu on their website is significantly different from the menu when we dined and when asked about their ""fidelity program"" they didn't tell us how to sign up. I'm not too thrilled about this place and think it's better off you just avoid this restaurant. Pros: Prompt seating, Jazz band Cons: Bad decor, service, food more
