January this year I had a problem with my central air unit so I started looking contractor profiles and reviews online. NRG was one of the companies I contacted and because they've given me much better quote than others ($60 vs. $110-4000+) I called them in to take a look. The people who came were very professional and upbeat. They've fixed the thermostat (others told me I would need to replace a bunch of other parts as well) on the spot and I haven't really had a problem with it ever again. After a month I got a followup call from the same guy asking if everything still works fine, and that's why I am more than happy to write this 5 star review. Great company, knowledgeable and respectful people, perfect customer service. more

My husbent and I had NRG come out to our house to service our air conditioning system (a 10 year old Carrier). The technician (Dmitri) was very personable and extremely knowledgeable about our system. I'm sure he could have talked us into buying a whole new AC system, but instead, fixed the problem and saved us a lot of money. We're not sure how long our current air conditioner will last, but we are sold on the honesty of NRG. - that's for sure - and we'll call them again when this old one needs replacement more

This past winter, my thermostat broke and I called NRG Heating and Air Conditioning to fix it. They replaced my thermostat and charged me close to $300.00, which I thought was a bit pricey. This past week, my thermostat stopped working again. A friend of mine looked at it and said that the thermostat was not wired correctly. I called NRG to replace it as it was still under warranty for parts and labor. Even though it was the hottest week of the year, NRG refused to come out the same day to fix it and scheduled the appointment for the next day. The appointment scheduler on the phone actually said they couldn't fix it the same day because it was so hot and many of their other customers had broken thermostats that they installed. I received a call the next morning stating that one of their technicians did not come in to work so they had to move my appointment to a later time. Once the technician did arrive, they installed a different thermostat than the one I had before. The new thermostat was not programmable like the one I originally paid for in winter. I asked him why and he said it was actually a better thermostat, but not programmable. I don't consider a replacement with less features to be an upgrade. The new thermostat was also much smaller than the original and you could see the ugly marks on the wall where the first one had been. It was only after I pointed this out that they placed a ""beauty plate"" around it to cover the old marks. After installing the new thermostat, the technician could not get it to work and did not know why it was not working. He made some phone calls and continued to try to get it to work. About 20 minutes later, I asked him why it wasn't working and he became very rude with me. All I did was ask why he couldn't get it to work. Once he said the thermostat was working, I signed the required paperwork and immediately asked the rude technician to leave. I would not recommend this company to anyone and will never use their services again. After searching the internet, I found other websites with very negative reviews from customers whose experiences were even worse than mine. I called in NRG after being having them reffered to me by a relative. I had a loud noise coming from the outside unit and could not stand it any longer. A technician by the name of Richard came and took a look at the problem. He was very polite and informative. He said the fan motor is whats making all the noise and offered me to either oil it up which would be temporary or change it out. To oil it up would have cost me $20 and to replace it was $225. We changed this damn thing out and I have never been more pleased. They are a pleasure to work with and the secretary is a sweetheart. Two thumbs up. more

It was very hot in North Hollywood and i could not find air conditioning company to fix my A/C. I called NRG Heating and Air Conditioning and they came the same day. When the house was built, the developer put in an air conditioning system that worked OK for the first 6 years we lived there, but then one day it just stopped working. We heard really good things about NRG Heating and Air Conditioning from a couple neighbors who used them for their homes, so had them come over for an estimate. I have to say that Dmitri was the most knowledgeable and ethical home contractor I've ever dealt with, really taking the time to analyze our needs, and not trying to push something on us. There prices were fair and the system is great. I would not hesitate recommending them to my neighbors and friends. more

My first experience with NRG was several years ago when a competitor told me my A/C was shot. I had NRG give me a second opinion. They said the unit was old and cheap, but was running exceptionally well.\r This spring, enticed by the rebates and tax credits, I solicited bids. NRG was a the best bid, and promised to do a great deal more work.\r The NRG people were exceptionally professional and accommodating. The listened to my concerns and went out of their way to do every thing I asked. The point of sales person, the office person, the tech and the installers were all top notch.\r They replaced ever piece of the A/C system, with the exception of the two copper pipes running between the outside and inside unit. They built a substantial new floor in the attic and even extended the floor to the attic stairway. NRG came to my house and created an energy efficient heating and air conditioning system for our ranch style home. The house was built in the 50's with rooms added on to make it a sprawling ranch house, with a lot of rooms needing different kinds of heating and air systems. We have two rooms that were add-ons and neither could accommodate ducting - so we had NRG install two mini-split systems that are mounted on the walls, require no ducting and keep the room perfectly warm or comfortably cool. more

Our furnace died at about 3pm on 11-03-10. I Googled for heating contractors, saw the great reviews, and called Air Quality & Beyond. He came out by about 4:30pm, assessed our situation and determined that our 18-year-old furnace was no longer safe to operate. Air Quality & Beyond then did a complete load assessment of our home, went to the office to crunch the numbers, and had a hard price back to me via e-mail by about 8pm. The technician proposed replacing our oversized 147000 btu 78% efficent Carrier furnace and A-coil with a properly sized 70000 btu 95% efficent Lennox furnace and A-coil and would have the new unit installed and operating the next day, The total installed price was slightly more than double the wholesale cost (I checked) of the materials (furnace, A-coil, thermostat, intake and vent stacks, condensate pump). I am a service tech looking for work and had an interview with nrg first week in 2011 with a Martin at the canoga park location.During this interveiw I was shocked to hear him ask me if I could make a sale after the customer said no to any needed repairs to their hvac unit. He also mentioned to me that its not about fixing the hvac unit but how much money I could get out of the given customer from the service call and how many service calls could I get done in a single day. Called during first weekend of 100+ degrees weather. Serviceman (I use that term loosely) looks at equipment and refuses to work on it saying everything needs to be replaced at a cost of $10,000 (with easy financing). Would not do anything. We paid a $95 service fee and called another company. There was NOTHING WRONG with our unit after minor adjustment (A/C unit is only 6 yrs old).\r Placed 2 calls to the company to speak with the owner/manager and he never returned the call.\r Most unprofessional ever - tried to take advantage of weather. These guys are jerks. They cold call saying "they are in the area..." and give you a great price to clean your filters, then don't show up, not once but twice. Real unprofessional. more

Watch out for these guys. The fan failed to turn on when the AC was activated. A tech came out and proceeded to criticize my home because it was a new "track" home. He said that the home manufacturer used the cheapest material for items that are not visible (My track home cost well over 1M) even though every other tech and inspector that had to inspect the home said it was a top notch job. Anyway, the tech said the furnace fan's motor wasn't running because my furnace was so cheap. He said I needed to replace the motor and it would cost $800. He said I should just replace the entire furnace since the gov. is giving a $1500 tax break. Replacing a furnace would cost me $3000 and it would be worth it since its such a "cheap" furnace. Well, I didn't trust this guy and got another estimate. The new tech said the Lennox furnace I have is rated as one of Consumer Digests top picks and one of the better furnaces. This company wanted to charge me 75% more than the 2 other quotes I received and just left the unit a mess and my house a mess. I ended up not using them and wouldn't recommend them. more
