Service is not very well trained and seemed hurried at times. The food is on the average side, but WAY over priced. Might be worth trying again on a slow night, but I am not...

East Coast Food and Attitude in the Rockies 11/29/2007

Proprietor Virgilio Urbano brings to the Rockies traditional Italian fare but with his own twist on flavor and preparation. Virgilio's truly uses the freshest ingredients hand picked by the Owner himself. It is not uncommon for Virgilio to experiment in the kitchen with a new soup, or entree and share it with his customers, or share a glass of wine that he has discovered from Italy . This is true hospitality and I challenge you to find it at a franchise or chain. Speaking of fresh ingredients the Greek Salad is crisp, fresh and not drenched in bottled dressing but perfectly dressed with Virgilio's homemade balsamic vinaigrette. The Fettuccine Alfredo Con Fresco is an amazing combination of fresh tomatoes, spinach, garlic and basil in a rich and creamy sauce of perfect consistency. Not too thick or thin. If you are looking for ways to get your kids to eat spinach order the Spinach Pinwheels, an excellent marriage of spinach, flaky crust and caramelized cheese. I always call ahead because they go fast! And of course the pizza, for someone like me who yearns for the East Coast ""Slice"" it is a real treat every time I come to Denver for business. The Pizza is the best hands down west of the Mississippi, a perfectly baked crust with a rich tomato-garlic infused sauce and excellent cheese to finish. And of course with any topping you desire. Virgilio's is the Best Pizza in Denver! \r Pros: Hands-on service and oversight from the Proprietor, Fresh Ingredients, Innovative Dishes more

Best Pizza In Denver & Best Garlic Knots Ever!!! 11/21/2007

Anything served at this restaurant is the best food I have ever put in my mouth! Virgilio's has ruined me in the sense that no pizza but Virgilios pizza is worth eating! I've tried many items on the menu and I recommend everything I've tried. Any pizza you order is truly fantastic. The spinach pinwheels and garlic knots are to die for...... The homemade fresh HOT mozzeralla is amazing and a must try. It was featured in 5280 as best comfort food. \r \r Virgilio is there every time we visit and he is involved with everything that is going on in the restaurant. He seems to personally check on everyone to make sure everything is fantastic . The restaurant is well decorated and the space is small but inviting and comfortable. If I'm a connoisseur of anything, its pizza. Anyone who appreciates a fantastic pizza needs to check this place out! You won't be disappointed. Don't forget the La Rossa (Italian Dark Beer) Pros: Fresh Hot Mozzeralla, Spinach Pinwheels, Garlic Knots, HD TV Cons: Small more

Just so-so 11/16/2007

I guess I'm not entitled to my opinion, as my last review disappeared. Not really sure what the fuss is about. It makes you wonder just who is fussing. Over-rated according to reviews on this forum. Place is small and the wait is most times long. Pizza was so-so, owner wears a frown, tho not sure why. I found it a bit disappointing. Pros: nice wait staff Cons: not so nice owner, small place, long wait more

Beyond Exceptional Pizza!!! 9/21/2007

This pizza hot spot defines excellence. My husband and I are transplants and found Virgilios the first month we arrived. The variety of pizza, fresh garlic knots, and personal service from Virgilio himself makes this restaurant a ""Must-Eat"" when friends and family come to town. We love the modern, classical Italian music and ambiance. Virgilio keeps the hot games on t.v. and makes sure everyone is well taken care of at all times. The prices are worth every single bite and make sure you bite into the homemade garlic knots (ask for a little extra mama's marinara). A definent hot spot for this weekend!! more

Love the pizza and knots!! 7/26/2007

Best pizza and garlic knots in this town. I drove 40 minutes and it was worth the drive. Outstanding pizza and the garlic knots are the best things ever. Pros: Outdoor Seating, not a franchise Cons: small more

Fantastic Pizza 7/6/2007

This is probably one of the best places in the area to get really good pizza. The crust is perfect, soft and slightly gooey on the inside and a little crusty on the outside, the red sauce is a little tangy and not too sweet, the whiute sauce is suberb! I would definitley stick to the pizza and garlic knots though, the pasts dishes aren't the draw. Try the margarita, greek and White pizza with fresh basil and sun dried tomatos. Its a small location, but its really enjoyable that way. the owner is very hands on and a very nice guy, and the rest of the staff is very nice as well. They offer take and bake but it's just not the same. If you're looking for good fresh pizza at reasonable prices, this is the best bet. Pros: Great Pizza, good service Cons: Small space more

Its About The Crust!!! Best Pizza In The State!! 7/1/2007

Wow!! The crust at Virgilio's is amazing. I have tried the best of everywhere and this crust is the best. Add the best mozz and you have the best pizza in town. The homemade fresh hot mozzeralla was awesome along with the spinach pinwheels and garlic knots. more

Pretty good for Colorado 5/19/2007

First off, I'll reveal that I was born in New York and raised there and in Connecticut, so I am admittedly a pizza snob. I grew up eating at places like John's, Grimaldi?s, DiFara?s, the ""big three"" in New Haven (Pepe's, Sally's, Modern) and DeLorenzo's in Trenton, NJ (my pick for the best ""tomato pies"" in the country). Pros: Good pizza for Colorado, good service, nice atmosphere Cons: $3/slice is a bit steep, not like the best of the Northeast pizza (but then again what is?) more

Best Freaking Pizza in This Town!! 5/3/2007

I have been in Denver for 20 years now. Always looking forward to the days of going back to NY for a great pie. I read about Virgilio's just about everywhere. About 2 months ago I stopped in for a slice of cheese. I closed my eyes as I could not believe I was in Colorado. Let me tell you, the crust, cheese and pizza sauce and the freaking best in the town period. I have been back every week since for my fix of 2 huge cheese slices. The owner Virgilio who has been there every single time, is a bit rough (east coast) but a super nice guy who works like a dog. The staff is great and the shop is clean and has a great feel. The garlic knots my be the best ever created and the homemade fresh mozzeralla is fantastic. Pros: great staff, great pizza, super clean Cons: small shop more

What's the big fuss? 4/26/2007

I have been to many pizza restaurants in the Denver area and cannot understand the buzz surrounding Virgilios. Granted, the waitstaff is very nice and the spinach pinwheels are good. However, I do not generally go to pizza restaurants for these reasons. If you are in the mood for real thincrust pizza that is tasty, you will be much, much happier going to Enzo's End or Proto's. Pros: Cheap and Wholefoods is across the street if you're not satisfied Cons: Pizza more

Best Pizza, Lasagna, Garlic Knots, and Fresh Mozz 4/26/2007

Had to put another review, as I had the homemade lasagna last week and for the first time ever I ate the entire thing. It was absolutely phenomenal. I also had the new appetizer of fresh mozz, which seriously, was amazing. I mentioned the garlic knots in my last review - but they always deserve a shout out. Looking forward to trying the spinach pinwheels next time. Best italian food, at a fantastic price too, in Denver by far. Virgilio is always there when we go and he is a great guy, makes us feel right at home. more

The best in town! 4/13/2007

This is the BEST New York style pizza in town. I recently read the 2007 Westword. They published their picks for the best of Denver. \r \r The best pizza: The Oven and Anthony?s. Can they be serious? The Oven is sub-par and Anthony?s is downright awful. However, V?s is the best pie in town. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed. Pros: Come on... The food!!!! Cons: Small more

I WANT A FLIPPIN' T-SHIRT OR SOMETHIN'... 4/12/2007

Seriously now, why anyone would eat ""pizza"" anywhere else is a mystery to me. I originally hail from Buffalo NY (I know its not the city, but hey we invented wings...) and this pizza puts even places there to shame. I didn't know that Colorado even made real pizza until I stopped into Virgilio's. The crust is perfect... and when I say perfect I mean it. You know when it has that perfect crispy crunch to it? Like buttered toast crispy??? You know what I am talkin' about! And holy mingyoli, the sausage is unreal. It is not that cruddy chunk sausage that you get at most pizza places, it is like big, thinly sliced pepperoni... except it ISN'T perpperoni, its SAUSAGE! And they shred it a little bit so that it sinks into the cheese perfectly and makes a delicious sausage-cheese conglomerate of heaven in your mouth. Oh my God, I just made my mouth water... seriously... I could go on for hours about the pizza, but let me suffice it to say that if you don't like this pizza... you don't like pizza... PERIOD... end of story... next topic...\r The other thing about this place that makes it the best (and I MEAN best), is the vino. I am not saying that the wine is particularly outstanding or anything, but what other pizza place lets you sit at the bar and watch sports with a glass of wine while you wait for your pizza to cook??? I will answer that question... NO ONE! I mean just the idea of it makes me almost able to hear my toothless Sicilian grandparents screaming at each other from all the way in Buffalo. Let me wrap this all up by bringin' it down to the bottom line... if you disagree with one word I said here, you can ""SHAAAAAAAAAAAADUP you mumaloak"" (thanks for that one grandpa C.), but if you have never been to Virgilio's... you are seriously missin' out, cause I'm not lyin', you take one bite of that pizza and you'll be sayin'... thats amore...\r \r If you have any questions, I'll tell it to you strait. You can eMail me personallly at Michaelangelo_24@hotmail.kom... Manga Pros: wine while I wait?!?!?! Baddda BING! Cons: Virgilio is a no nonsence goomba that gets a little fiery... Some people might not like this, but I personally love it. more

Love This Place, Best Pizza, Calzone, Knots in Denver 4/5/2007

I am hooked on Virgilio's Pizzeria. This little small pizza place has hits a homerun with making NY Style pizza in Denver. The pizza crust is amazing, the cheese is what i grew up in Albany. I cannot believe that everything is great. Pizza, calzones, stromboli, pinwheels, garlic knots, pasta's. I love there food and I love this small family place. The owner, cook and staff are awesome. I suggest avoiding Friday Night, go early or later. You must try the homemade fresh mozzerella!!!! AMAZING!!!! Pros: Great Staff, Best Pizza In Denver, Garlic Knots, Spinach Pinwheels Cons: Small Place, Can get very busy more

Best Pizza in 15 Years, Garlic knots are awesome, homemade fresh mozzarella 3/5/2007

Found Virgilio?s from 5280. I ordered a 18? cheese pie, after one bite I knew this was real NY Style Pizza!! Real brick ovens not like Big Bills and Lil Ricci?s who claim real NY pizza but cook on a conveyor oven. The cheese, sauce, and crust brought back childhood memories. Since then I have tried the garlic knot, spinach pinwheels, stromboli, and the homemade fresh mozzarella (wow). The place is clean and warm, the game is always on and the owner was there on every occasion make sure our meal was perfect. The restaurant is small so be prepared to wait on the weekends. I go during the week, which is normally no problem. Best New York Pizza in Denver if not the West Coast. Pros: Best New York Pizza in Denver, pinwheels, homemade mozzarella Cons: Small more

Great slice of pizza 3/2/2007

The slice was great. The sauce was perfect and the garlic knots were wonderful. I wish there was not a minimum purchase to use my credit card. However, I would recommend this place if you enjoy pizza. Pros: Pizza Cons: Can not use a credit card for just a slice of pizza. more

We have been going to Virgilio's since they opened!! Best pizza in Denver, Great service, 2/5/2007

I had to finally write a review after reading some of dumb as.. customer comments. Virgilio and his staff are the hardest working people that I have ever met. I have never in at least 20 visits not seen Virgilio there. He is there greeting customers, making pizza?s, busing tables, delivering food and answering the phone, etc. He always manages to stop and say hello and ask how are food is. Sometimes he looks exhausted because he never takes a day off. He always there to make sure the food and service are the best he can offer. I have never seen a person so proud of pizza then Virgilio. When he brings a pie out he gloats about his cheese and he should because his pie is the best in Denver. One night a customer said ?I heard you are the best and I know pizza because I am from NY?. Virgilio made this customer have a slice before it went in the box so the customer could taste the way it should be. This a proud man and it shows in the quality of his product. When a read a review that says someone was rude or service was bad of a Friday night I guess these people have never been in the restaurant business. I love Virgilio?s food but I love the hometown feel of a small family owned pizzeria even more. Virgilio keep up the fantastic food and service.\r \r You must try the pizza of course, spinach pinwheels, garlic knots and the homemade fresh mozzarella served hot.\r \r Love\r Rita & Jim\r \r Pros: Hard working staff, Best Pizza, Spinach Pinwheels, Fresh Hot Mozzeralla Cons: Very crowded on the weekends more

Inappropriate Anger 2/3/2007

We ordered several pizzas to go and were told by the girl at the cashier to wait at one of the table near the front door. We did. We waited 30 minutes and asked about our pizza. We were told to continue waiting. fter 50 minutes we inquired again and Virgilio told us that the pizza had been ready for 30 minutes and if we hadn't have been waiting at a table and taking up space for someone who wanted to eat at the restaurant we would have known that! The experience was horrendous! Virgilio was in appropriate and it just wasn't worth it! more
