Best

We went to Virgilio’s with another couple for their New Year’s Eve winner pairing dinner. I have been to a few wine dinners but this was by far the best. We started with a aperi...

Worst

Service is not very well trained and seemed hurried at times. The food is on the average side, but WAY over priced. Might be worth trying again on a slow night, but I am not...

Ok. 2/27/2008

I ordered a pie sometime to go. It was ok; however, I?ve had better?. I wonder one thing. The last review was written from an IPhone, while at the restaurant. Who does that?... I looked at some of the other reviews. It?s clear to me they might be planted to boost the overall rating. Don?t beLIEve the hype. I mean the food was ok. I enjoyed the atmosphere, but really 115 + reviews! That?s a little much. Pros: The pop Cons: too much hype more

Passionate Pizza Eater on my I Phone 2/27/2008

I'm on my IPHONE in Virgilio's writing this review - real time- I just had salad, garlic knots, sausage, mushrooms pizza- endless soda- this place ROCKS- just try it. more

the best spaghetti sauce in denver 2/26/2008

Just awesome, just the best sauce I ever had. I' m amazed how many items are on the menu for such a small place. \r \r Just Awesome. Pros: Sauce more

Save gas. It's not that great 2/25/2008

I went here for lunch and was not impressed. The slices and knots were sub-par at best.... I too read all the hype. I think the ballots are (were) stuffed for this rating. It's ok, but not the best in town. Pros: ????????????? Cons: Expensive for lunch. more

Boulder Pizza Man - Will Travel for Great Pizza 2/25/2008

Hey- Awesome Pizza - Just Great- I told all my friends in Boulder.\r i love it. If your in the area check it out- I met the owner Virgilio- I told him that I really injoyed my mushroom/sausage pizza. Pros: the cheese is different and awesome Cons: i live far away- more

I love the sausage - The best in denver- I'll pay the extra money because it's worth it 2/24/2008

I have tried the local pizza establishments in the area and nothing compares to Virgilio's. This place is the real deal, I can't help but notice that some pizza joints in the area are not even owned by Italians. Virgilio's is the"" Real Deal."" The sausage pizza is the best. I'll highly recommend it. \r I'm a passionate pizza lover who could tell the difference between fresh and no so fresh toppings. If you want the best pizza in Denver, go to Virgilio's. Pros: Suasage Pizza, Garlic Knotts Cons: this was the best kept secret in denver more

I've been there twice and now NOT a third. 2/20/2008

I have been here on two occasions. The food was ok, but definitely not great. On the third visit I too was told there would be an extra charge for their ?premium? sausage. I was amazed, but paid for the topping. When I got the slices they were greasy. I was not impressed?. I have done some research before posting. I think it?s strange this place has so many reviews. There are some well established restaurants in the Denver area that do not have half the number Virgilio?s does?In my opinion I think some of them may be placed here by the owner/ staff. Don?t BELIEVE the hype. Cons: Lots of hype. more

Pizza Margarita Rocks 2/19/2008

We have read so much about this place so we finally made our way over to Virgilio's Pizzeria in Lakewood. I love this little place. It had a wonderful warm feel and just felt like a east coast pizzeria. We took the servers recommendations on the garlic knots and spinach pinwheels both amazing. I ordered the pizza margarita and my husband ordered a white pizza. First all the crust at Virgilio?s it one of the best I have ever had. The ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection. The beautiful fresh basil leaves on my pizza was a wonderful touch and my husband was raving about his white pizza. We also enjoy a wonderful wine that was not on the wine list that the owner recommended. What a wonderful experience. We watching the people next to us enjoy the fresh hot mozzarella it looked amazing. No question the best pizza in this town and the margarita pizza may the best pizza I have ever had. Pros: Nice place, pizza margarita, knots spinach pinwheels more

Good... not great! 2/17/2008

I too have not written a post. The last one looks very detailed. I wonder if it could have been written by the owner, or a close friend? .....I went here with some friends. Duing our meal we heard Virgilio tell everyone who will listen about how much things cost. Sorry, but you run a small business. Things are expensive...The slices were good, but over a little overpriced.... I liked the food, but It's not the best I have had. Pros: The crust Cons: A bit overrated more

Best Pizza, Best Sausage 2/17/2008

I normally don?t write these reviews but I cannot read some these without calling B.S. The last reviewer talked about the sausage and paying extra. I also asked the owner about that. He explained they use Carmine Lonardos Homemade Sausage, after they cook it costs about 3.00 per pound and they were losing money on that topping. He explained that they could use the frozen rabbit pellets like pizza hut or keep the quality but charge for it. I love their sausage and after the explanation I had no issues at all. Virgilio is very pound of his product and he should be!!! His ingredients are top notch and his pizza is the best in this town (there is wall of awards to prove it). The garlic knots, spinach pinwheels, calzones are all outstanding. I love this place and paying a extra dollar with keep me away from the best pizza in Denver and I have never, never had a greasy slice!! Pros: Clean, Italian Opera, Nice Wines, Birra Moretti, HDTV Cons: Small and busy more

It's ok, but greasy. 2/15/2008

First I like to say I love Pizza. It?s one of my guilty pleasures and have tried them all over the world. \r \r I went here for lunch. I ordered the expensive two slices and pop for 6 + dollars special. I was told I would have to pay a ""premium"" price to have sausage put on them. This must be a joke. Since when did sausage cost extra? It?s not the fifty cents, but paying more for a normal topping.\r \r When I got my ?premium? slice they were greasy. The sausage was good, but not great. After leaving I had the worst case of heartburn. I wonder if it?s from the ?premium? topping?\r \r This place is good. However, it?s NOT the second-coming of pizza. This is just one person's opinion. At least you have my unbiased and unpaid thoughts on this restaurant. Pros: The ambience Cons: Overrated more

WOW! 2/10/2008

The Pizza Trio ordered garlic knots, the greek salad, the hot fresh mozzarella, the quattro formaggi pizza and a canoli. The salad was enough to share with the Trio and was very fresh and full of goodies. It had carrots, cucumbers, peperoncinis, feta, onions, tomatoes (we nix the olives but it comes with it) and a blend of spinach and romaine. It came with a balsamic dressing which was good but not right for the salad, a greek or vinagarette would have fit better. The garlic knots were good (although still not garlicky enough for us!) and came with marinara for dipping. Everything was put on hold when the hot mozzarella came out. It is served in a dish with olive oil and fresh basil on top and comes with garlic bread to put it on. This mozz was by far the most delicious bowl of cheese around! It's expensive ($11) but is a must! The pizza came out looking beautiful and although the Trio didn't realize it didn't have red sauce, it didn't need it. The crust was delicious (crisp and flaky- not mushy or greasy at all!) and the blend of cheeses (ricotta, pecorino romano, mozzarella and feta) was out of this world. It came topped with more fresh basil and garlic and was perfect! The canoli came out and had a combo chocolate/strawberry drizzle along the plate and two whipped cream dollops with sprinkles on them. The canoli was good enough on its own not to need anything else but the presentation did make us feel like little kids again! One member of the Trio asked for another to take home! We will return to try more but we all highly recommend this restaurant! Pros: hot mozzarella appetizer! Pizza! Cons: Small restaurant more

Love Virgilio's, Best Independent Pizzeria In Colorado 2/9/2008

I have been going to Virgilio?s for the past year now. I freaking love this place. I have never had a bad meal of any kind. Everything is great!! Pizza, Garlic Knots, Calzones, Salads, Homemade Fresh Mozzarella, Spinach Pinwheels, Lasagna, Pasta etc. The staff is friendly and hardworking and the owner Virgilio is always, always on site. The poor man works every single day, which explains the awesome quality of his food. This place is small so if you go during peak hours you will have to wait. Pros: Great Foods, Great Service and Staff Cons: Small, Very Busy at Times more

Delicious Pizza in Lakewood. 2/8/2008

Virgilio's uses the freshest ingredients. Nice wine list, good italian beers. You will not find this high quality at a franchise or chain. Speaking of fresh ingredients the Salad is crisp, fresh and not drenched in bottled dressing but perfectly dressed with Virgilio's homemade balsamic vinaigrette. The spinach pinwheels are fantastic, an excellent marriage of spinach, flaky crust and caramelized cheese. Call ahead because they go fast! The Pizza is the best hands down in Denver, a perfectly baked crust with a rich tomato-garlic infused sauce and excellent cheese to finish. And of course with any topping you desire. I only wish he would roast the garlic cloves first. Virgilio's is really good pizza & garlic knots, and spinach pinwheels and salads, because Lakewood suffers from such a dearth of good eating places, I would say it is the Best Pizza in Lakewood. Pros: The food Cons: Parking is awful but I blame city of lakewood they should build another entrance/exit on Allison more

Great pizza, rude service 2/8/2008

Great food--love the garlic knots and the pizza. Decent atmosphere for a Lakewood restaurant. Virgilio, however, is seriously stressed out and kind of mean. And, no, I'm not from New York, so I'm using my Colorado judgment ;) For example, he actually asked my friend and me to leave so other people could have our table. He literally whisked away what remained of our food, wrapped it up, and sent us on our way. First time that's ever happened to me. My friend and I went outside and chatted for a few minutes, and a couple came out complaining that he'd done the same thing to them. I highly recommend takeout rather than dine in. more

Best Pizza in Denver, Best Pizza in Colorado 1/21/2008

Love this place. Best NY Pizza In Denver. You must try the pizza, calzones, garlic knots and spinach pinwheels. Pros: Great Food, Beer and Wine, Clean Cons: small more

Best Pizza in Denver, Awesome Staff, Great Service 1/15/2008

Ok, So read all these reviews. Some say best ever, some say insult to NY. Some say owner is rude (if Virgilio is rude then you have never been to NY), some say owner is hard working and very nice. Like everyone I am from NY. Not all pizza in NY is good. There is good pizza in Denver. Not the best ever but very very good pie right here in town. I have been to Virgilio?s 15 times now. Only one time I asked for the pie to be a little more extra crispy. Virgilio came to the table and apologized, he explained that when it is very busy the brick stones cool off and that is why it looked cooked on top but was not crispy on the bottom. He explained it takes months and months to teach a person how to work the ovens. That was enough for me to tell me that this owner cares about his product. I have never have seen him rude to anyone, maybe stressed since every time I come in the place is packed. Back to the pizza. Virgilio?s is the best in Denver, The pizza crust maybe the best I have ever had, the pizza sauce is sweet but does not overpower the pizza and the cheese is amazing. They use ?Grande? which is thee best pizza cheese on this planet because favorite place back east uses this cheese and it brings back childhood memories. Lil Ricci?s also uses ?Grande? but they cook on a conveyor? Where in NY is there a conveyor except Dominos and Pizza Hut. It just doesn?t stop at the pie. The garlic knots are amazing. The homemade fresh hot mozzarella that is made to order and maybe the best comfort food ever. The calzones and spinach pinwheels are fantastic. The reviews that give Virgilio's 1 star are just BS. This place no matter if I ate off the floor in the bathroom would ever get 1 star. This is not a 5 star fine dining restaurant, just a very nice neighborhood pizzeria that get packed and busy. So be prepared to wait on Friday night or just go early or during the week. You will not be disppointed. \r Pros: Best pizza, garlic knots, calzones in denver. HDTV, Clean Cons: Small and can get very crowed more

Good pizza but bad service 1/15/2008

The pizza is good but the owner Virgillo needs a lot of work. My husband, sister and I went there on a week night knowing that they get busy on the weekends. We put our names in and when a table opened by the door we expected to be seated next. But Virgillo seated another party with 4 people rather than seating our party of 3. When we asked Virgillo why he seated the other party he said that the table is for 6 and that he couldn't bend the rules and seat us because you have to have at least 4 people to sit in the front booth. He's the owner for pete's sake and we would have needed a 4 top to seat us anyway! Being slighty annoyed we waited. My husband and I then ordered a pizza and fettuccini alfredo - when we finished our meal we asked for to go boxes. Virgillo got our food and I asked if I could have a little extra alfredo sauce over my pasta in the to go box. Virgillo looked at me and said ""the sauce is very expensive and pre-measured for each meal and I can't add any more"". I offered to pay extra but he just looked at me and boxed up our food. I find it ridiculous that he didn't acknowledge me even when I offered to pay extra for the sauce. With the way we were treated while waiting for a table and Virgillo's rudeness, my family will never ever go back. Pros: pizza Cons: horrible owner more
