These guys are horrible. They asked me what was the first available date that I could accept delivery (July 5th). And then they also told me to ship early so that the furniture would arrive by the date I wanted it to. So I called them on June 25th. They never told me in the fine print that the furniture would arrive as much as 14 business days from the first date that I said I was available. I had to this wait for a full 3 weeks after I had moved. To add to those woes, they were further delayed beyond 14 business days. When I asked for some compensation, they told me that they only compensate $ 25 for each additional business day that they were delayed. I looked back at the contract and it says every additional day, including non-business day. When I mentioned this, they agreed but making sure to make it sound like they were doing me a favor. Also the person I was corresponding with, Solana is never available to speak with me. I call multiple times only to hear that she is on another line and will get back to me as soon as she is off the phone. Once I got to speak with her supervisor, Beverley and she said that she would look into this matter. But nothing happened. I would therefore definitely not recommend this company. more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY if you don't want a headache! I am not just an angry customer. It was been 2 weeks after our move and here is a detailed account of what happened... STI Movers picked up our shipment for our long distance move on Thursday, June 16th. This arrangement had been made by my husband, with their employee Steve. The movers were professional and amount agreed upon. A delivery contract was signed giving a delivery spread of 1-7 business days from Friday 6/17. Steve was contacted the next day and gave the same information, 1-7 business days. Steve was contacted again on Wed 6/22 about the delivery date. Steve informed Eric that the moving truck would be leaving the facilities in Skokie on the next day, Thursday, 6/23 and would be arriving Saturday 6/25 or Sunday 6/26 and that we would be receiving a call from the driver with a 24 hour notice. No call or delivery was received that weekend. STI was contacted at 10:45am Monday 6/27 to inquire why our shipment was not delivered. We were told by Beverly, a manager, that Steve was on vacation and she would look into our situation with David, who was in a meeting. After 2 hours, we received a call from Beverly stating that our shipment was still there and had never left the facility. She would need to speak to David, the long distance moving manager, and call us back, again. I contacted Beverly at 1:00 when no response was received. I was told she was on the other line and she would call me back. She called back at 1:30. Beverly was short tempered and unknowledgeable. She claimed she did not know why the truck had never left. She had no idea why Steve had given us the prior information. She was unwilling to talk about compensation. She was unwilling to explain the process to me as she had more

Elgin, IL 1.0 star rating 7/1/2011 Absolutely the worst moving company I've ever had to deal with! No professionalism whatsoever!!!! Supervisors who I would expect to have SOME customer service were completely useless and rude. I had to wait THREE hours and when I asked for one free hour, they said all we can do is give you $25. When I'm paying hundreds of dollars to move my things, Twenty-five bucks is a slap in the face!! THEN the supervisor told me that it was my fault for scheduling a move on the busiest day of the year! I told her if she couldn't commit to that time, then they should have told me no! When I finally called after waiting for 2 hours, Max told me that there are 2 more jobs ahead of me but will send the crew to my house! I was scheduled for an 11am time slot! When were these poor guys supposed to start moving people to finish moving three houses???! Bottom line is if you don't care how much your time is worth, then go ahead, book them! But if you have better things to do than wait around then move on! They are NOT worth the hassle!! more

LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP. I REPEAT DO NOT USE STI MOVERS. THEY DO NOT EVEN DESERVE ONE STAR. The representative on the phone asked me all the furniture I had in the house. I told him. He asked for the number of boxes. I distinctly remember saying, ""Sir, I cannot give you a precise box count since I have a lot of things and my boxes vary in size since they are all free from the Starbucks close by."" I specifically requested a representative from STI movers to come to my apartment and appraise my things - knowing full well that I have a lot of things. This representative declined my request of an in-house estimate and said he would put me down for the average amount of boxes. The total estimate was $770. When the movers came, they not only did not charge me the estimate of $770 but the resulting moving fee was $2719. I was hysterical. I was crying on the phone to my mom, crying on the phone to Bret, crying in front of the movers. The new price is quadruple the estimate! More than 400%! I am a part-time teacher and lab researcher - I did not have the money. Bret advised me to proceed with the move. I was under incredible emotional duress - my lease was over the next day and I flew out of Chicago in 4 days. I had no time to contact and schedule the move with another company. I was completely and utterly helpless and upset. The movers would not leave until I signed it. In addition for days afterward, STI movers constantly called me and said that they WOULD NOT deliver my things unless I paid half the moving cost by Friday (I moved Tuesday) and the other half by delivery. I told them that I knew my rights: that if the final cost is above the estimate I am required to pay the estimate plus 10% of the estimate and then deliberate the final cost for 30 days. They completely declined that and said that I waved this right when I signed their contract. I explained to them I was absolutely hysterical and crying. I also explained that BY FEDERAL LAW THEY ARE REQUIRED TO DELIVER MY THINGS but they repeatedly told me I had not paid one cent of my moving expenses. I put down a $200 deposit before the move and all my things were taken to Skokie, IL in a warehouse. This company is a SCAM. They finally delivered my things after I had to borrow money to pay them. They came the following Monday. Bret called and said they would be here by 1 PM (a 1PM to 4 PM window of time). The movers came at 8:30 PM. At best they were 3.5 hours late, at worst they were 7.5 hours late. The end results - all my picture frames are broken. My dresser with circular mirror is completely cracked and broken - it was haphazardly wrapped in cardboard NOT bubble wrap. In addition, during the move from Chicago, one of the movers broke one of my mirrors (a long mirror attached on a wall). The movers have NOT given me the screws and bolts needed to put my bed and tables together. The company advertises that they will take apart and assemble all furniture. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. My bed was not assembled. Since the movers came so late, all they did was place everything on my back porch. Also, the movers DO NOT TAKE CARE OF YOUR THINGS. I truly wish they had been more upfront and honest about the cost of moving. I HONESTLY FEEL LIKE I WAS NOT ONLY DECEIVED and LIED TO BUT ROBBED. They had my things hostage and would not deliver them unless I paid. That is ROBBERY. None of the representatives were helpful but rather bullying. I used STI movers on April 2nd 2011. I was leery about using this company based on the reviews that I read on Yelp. However, when I spoke with Max. He assured me that this company would make my moving experience go very smooth and it would be inexpensive. The movers arrived on time at 12pm. Assessed the amount of stuff that I had and immediately begin moving the boxes. I had about 70 boxes and I was impressed when they had moved all of the boxes within 30 minutes. However, they did not have a screwdriver to disassemble my mirror from my dresser. I had to go and borrow one. Instead of them moving other furniture items in the meantime, they just stood around joking. The next bottleneck was the couch. I have a 2 piece sectional. When I moved the couch in with non professional movers it took them 15 minutes. These movers took over 45 minutes alone to remove the couch which they also damaged. It seemed as if they started moving slower on purpose. I have 2 doors (front and back) I told them that in order to swiftly remove the couch they had to take off the back door and the legs of the couch and it would go right out. Professional movers should have known this. Instead of listening to what I said, they left the legs on the couch and scratched the bottom of my couch in the process of jamming it out of the front door. \r The place I moved to has an elevator that was dedicated to me for 2 hours. They did not pack the elevator out and it ended up taking the entire 2 hours to move and reassemble my things. The management office complained that no move has ever taken that long when dealing with professionals. Again they spent another 30 minutes getting the couch in the door because they did not move the legs from the bottom. \r I was quoted a 3 hour job for $424. My move ended up costing almost $700. I was charged for tape at $3 a roll when I was told that was included. They also taped items that did not require it such as totes with lids and boxes that had already been taped up.\r I believe that because they were getting paid at an hourly rate they wanted to take up as much time as possible.\r The mirror to my dresser was damaged and cracked. The back of my filing cabinet had been totally pushed in. The power button on my television is pushed in. I sent a claim with pictures to Anthem. \r I am extremely disappointed and and at this point would not recommend STI based on my experience. I spoke with Max after my move and he assured me that this is not how this company does business and that he would forward my complaint to upper management. \r However, he nor his manager Solana have done anything to rectify this. The insurance company that ehy use, Anthem, is also a joke. \r If you want your things to arrive without damage and in an inexpensive. PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!! \r \r \r more

The pick up was ok, the two men wrapped and boxed things and loaded our things into a huge truck with lots of individual compartments. The delivery was another experience all together. One man showed up at night and unloaded our things all by himself. My husband and I unpacked and unwrapped the furniture which was quite a job we were not expecting at 8:30 pm. When I unwrapped my wooden tv trays the stand was broken. I then unwrapped one of my antique tables and the leg was broke off. When I reported this to STI they referred me to there insurance company who sent me forms to fill out and questions that made me look like I had done something wrong. I filled them out and sent pictures and paid money to mail the items to them certified mail one month ago and I haven't heard from them at all. I would not recommend them at all. more

I recently moved with STI Movers whom I was contact by through the internet and was told to ""go to Citysearch and see all our great reviews"". Well I fell for it and man I fell hard. This group of thugs strong armed me into paying a fortune more then I was quoted. I have now done some research on them and found ""Citysearch"" is the only place they have good reviews and by the looks of the ones posted on here versus other ""review sites"" it is safe to say they sit there writting them themselves. I am sure every client they move picks the same type nicknames and state things the same way. This company was only helpful before they got my money and after that I wasnt even treated with respect let alone like a client whom spent $2200. I will never ever under no circumstances use this company again and I am filing a report against them with anyone I can. They have ruined my life more

I used STI for a move from Round Lake to Chicago a few months ago. These guys were awesome! I have a teeny tiny gangway leading from both the front and back of my apartment and had no idea how my treadmill was going to fit through either. I voiced my concern to the foreman and he told me it wouldn't be a problem. They manuveured through that little walkway with ease and not a scratch! I'll definitely be using these guys again for my next and hopefully last move! more

I was extremely nervous for my move because it was my first big one since college! I had a lot of furniture/clothing/kitchen supplies/appliances since I was moving into an unfurnished apartment and a friend recommended STI movers to me! I called, they answered promptly and were quick to move me. The entire process was swift and successful. STI movers was amazing! The moving process is stressful enough. STI made is very easy for me. All of my stuff made it through move no problem! Nothing was broken, misplaced or ruined. The movers were extremely nice and so helpful! They wre very careful with all of my stuff and made the process pretty stress free for me. This moving company was so helpful and accommodating in my stressful move from the suburbs to the city of Chicago. I was super stressed that my stuff was going to get ruined, lost or misplaced and was very nervous about the overall move in general. This company, however, was not very available with my concerns and questions they were so accommodating throughout the entire move! If i could do it over again there is not doubt about it that I would use this company and highly recommend this company for everyone! They were fast, efficient, and everything was as easy as could be!
