Never Again 5/19/2010

They wouldn't tell me the cost of a new water heater until they came to my house and charged me a $75 fee. The rep had a book that listed the prices, which they clearly could have quoted me over the phone. Turns out it was $3000 for a new tank. I had another plumber quote me $600 for the same tank over the phone. And I was still out the $75 just to learn that Gillece is a rip-off. To me that's a scam. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Deceitful, Expensive, Scam more

Good Plumbers 4/27/2010

I’m not sure why the poor reviews. Called Gillece last Friday to clean our sewer. They were in and out in no time and the price wasn’t bad. If plumbing was pleasant and easy we would do it ourselves! I will gladly pay for this service! Pros: fast, good plumbers Cons: no cons more

Would call again 4/22/2010

Last weekend my sewer backed up and after our local plumber blew us off I called Gillece. We were happy it was nothing major. The plumbers that came to the house were so professional and fixed us up on a couple hours. Will use again if we ever need to!! Pros: timely, professional Cons: none more

Be Cautious! 4/18/2010

We had our sewer drain back up slightly and we thought that we just needed it cleaned so we called Gillece for the $99 cleaning, which seems pretty much a gimic to get them into your home and then insist they do more labor. They said they found that roots were blocking the line and we were in imminent danger and it needed to be taken care of asap and had us sign a contract with an emergency order attached which took away our rights to have 3 days to cancel the service. Then they came to us and said we needed to replace our whole system and they had to dig up our whole yard. Since we signed the original contract they would leave our property until we allowed them to complete the job. It was 11:30 at night and all we wanted was to sleep on the decision on whether or not to dig up our whole yard and driveway. It was obvious there was a problem that needed fixed but they hooked us with the emergency order so we did not have time to find out whether or not they were the best people with the best price. We are young and first time homeowners, and they took advantage of my inexperience. Pros: same day service Cons: manipulative more

Great 4/9/2010

Great experience with this company. Good service and reasonable. Called Gillece last Friday to come check our air conditioner. We tried to start our central air for the first time this year and it didn’t work. Glad we got this done early, now we are good for the year! Pros: great service Cons: none found more

flawless 3/30/2010

I usually don’t post reviews, I never think to do it, but, my recent experience with the Gillece company was so good, I wanted to share it. We are having some remodeling done (by another company) and were told by them we needed to upgrade our main electrical panel. The Gillece electrician arrived on time was completely knowledgeable and pleasant. He explained everything he was going to do and did a great job! We have never had such a flawless transaction! Will call them again if the need ever arises! Pros: great service, clean, friendly Cons: could not find any more

Honest and Dedicated Employees 2/21/2010

I had a very serious problem with my furnace. My carbon monoxide detector was going off in the middle of the night last Tuesday night. I immedoiately called 911 and the fire department was out in within ten minutes (Thank you South Baldwin VFD). The fire department was able to determine that the problem was with my furnace and they shut it off. I was relieved to know that my home was now safe, but now I needed to get my furnace repaired before I could have heat in my home. I called the company that had performed a tune-up on the furnace last spring and explained to them what had happened. They were very eager to send out a salesman rather than someone to fix the furnace. After sitting through the sales pitch and throwing them out, I decided to get a second opinion. After reading great reviews of Gillece on Google and City Search, I decided to give them a try. John H. from Gillece was so sincere and honest and truly wanted to solve my problem for me for the least amount of out of pocket for me. His honest diagnosis of the problem which turned out to be correct saved me thousands of dollars that the other company almost had me convinced that I needed to spend. Thank you to Gillece and John H for being honest and not trying to take advantage of a scared single mother. When I do finally need to replace my furnace, I will choose Gillece for the work and request John for any work that I need in the future. more

Savior in the Snow 2/15/2010

This winter has been very trying, but thanks to Gillece, we are safe and warm. Our power went out last Friday with the big snow. We were without power until Monday, and when the power did come back on, the furnace crapped out!!! After days without heat or electricity it was very disappointing to still have no furnace. Gillece to the rescue!! Called for service at 8 PM requesting service. Techncian John showed up around 10:30 and rescued us. I didn't realize until after he had the heat back on that his truck was parked on the next street behind our house, about a 1/4 of a mile away. I would like to highly recommend this company and the heroic efforts of their employees like John that went above and beyond to help us in our time of need. I am a customer for life!! Pros: Dedicated Employees more

$99 Sewer Cleaning a Great Value 1/25/2010

Called Gillece after horrible backup this morning when our sump-pump stopped working due to all of the rain yesterday. They set me up for a morning appointment in a four hour window. I waited until 11:00 and then they called and saifd they were running behind and could I reschedule or wait it out a little longer. I agreed to wait and by 1:00 they had a very friendly young man arrive and go straight to work. Very efficient and cleared up the problem in no time. Turns out the pump was just clogged and after he jiggled the pipe coming out of the pit the pump kicked on and immediately began pumping out the basement.. He wasn't even going to charge the $99 fee because he said that he didn't have to use his machine, but I paid him anyhow (And now I know what to do the next time this happens). Only gave them four stars because they didn't show up on time but were still ther the same day according to their guarantee. Pros: Very reasonable - friendly employees Cons: Missed 4 hour window but still same day service. more

Horrible Service. Even worse prices. 1/14/2010

I called Gillece because of their promise of same day service and their cheap rates offered for sewage cleaning as my sewer was backed up after the holidays. Little did I know when I called them that these were just scams to get their foot in the door. When I had called I found out that I hadn't qualified for their same day service offer as many restrictions applied even though I called before noon, but agreed to having them come out the day after. They had a horrid "Travel Charge" of 65.00 (where later I found out from a friend that other plumbers in the area have a travel fee of half the price), and then they shoved only so much cable down my drain before I the technician told me that the drain was still clogged and it would take a little while to unclog. Little did I know that in the fine print it stated that the price of the drain cleaning would increase DRASTICALLY after a certain amount of feet of cable had been used and the longer the plumber sat around my house. I was shocked when I got the bill!! It was outrageous! The amount that I was charged for this job was compounded by having to run cable to the main and the fact that the plumber sat around half the day, increasing his fee!! For all I know these guys run on commission and I paid the guys week-long pay. I will NEVER use Gillece Plumbing ever again and will tell everyone not to! When googling Gillece Plumbing, google automatically suggested the word SCAM after his name and thats what this business is! Pros: None. Would NEVER recomend Cons: Nothing about this company was professional more

Got the job done the same day, and without much ado. 12/21/2009

I hired Sears to install my washer/dryer and their employees seem to have done something incorrectly because shortly afterwards, the Kohler body spray faucets in my shower started malfunctioning. I called at least 4 plumbers in the phone book until I gave up and took my search online. I called several plumbers listed there too and nobody even knew what I was talking about until I called Gillece. The guy they sent out has got to be one of the most knowledgeable plumbers I've ever met. Not only did he pinpoint the exact problem as soon as he saw my faucets, he was professional enough to get the job done the same day, and without much ado, and for very little money. more

Gillece is By Far The BEST in Town!! 12/11/2009

We have done business with many other heating and air conditioning companies over the years and were never really quite happy until we contacted Gillece plumbing and heating. They are always very prompt, friendly and extremely professional and their techs are absolutley the best in the business. Our favorite tech is Albert, he is very smart and always finds the problem and makes it right the first time. My advice is to forget the rest and call the best! Gillece plumbing and heating.? more

Would have given 5 stars if they were on time 12/3/2009

Called Gillece this morning very early at 7 am. They scheduled me for a 8-12 call and asured me that I would receive a call from dispatcher half hour before they send the service man. They called me at 11:00 and asked me if I could reschedule for the afternoon due to how busy they were. What choice did I have, I said yes. They put me in the 12 to 4 slot and assured me that I was going to be serviced the same day. They called me back around 2:30 and said they had their best technician on his way to me. I was skeptical, but Mike showed up about 15 minutes later, looked at the furnace and fixed it for only the $95 trip charge. He found that I only had a loose wire, which he tightened. Honest service and honest employees, which saved me money. Pros: Cost of service less than expected Cons: Resccheduled from AM appointment to afternoon. more

Got free service because of guarantee 12/2/2009

Called Gillece on Monday with a backed up drain. They scheduled me for the same day but were not able to get to me that day because of how busy they were. I asked about the same day or free promotion that they advertise. They said that my call did not qualify for that because I had called in after the 12 oclock deadline, but the dispatcher was so understanding of our prediciament that he waived the charges anyhow. Gillece worker showed up first thing Tuesday morning and snaked out drain for absolutely no charge. I was so impressed with how great their customer service is and their great guarantee that they live up to that I had to write a recommendation for them online. Pros: Free work Cons: Had to wait till the next day. more

Price gouging 12/1/2009

They get the job done for the highest imaginable price. We have a rule in our house - NEVER CALL GILLECE. Most recent experience - I had a small leak in a gas valve serving a fireplace. I called Gillece, knowing it was a minor repair, and agreed to the "trip charge" or $65.00, to be applied to the total charge. The estimate was $650.00. I sent Gillece away and fixed the leak myself for a total cost of $2.50 (two dollars and fifty cents) for parts from Home Depot. The other instance involved a quote for a new high efficiency furnace. Gillece quoted $8,500.00. I got the same furnace installed and with the same warranty from Alberts Pluming and Heating for $5,500. That's a difference of three thousand. GILLECE GOUGES ON PRICE Pros: quick service Cons: horrific price gouging more

price gouging 11/30/2009

Met all the inclusions for 24 hour service or it's free guarantee after company unable to keep two scheduled appointments and had to bump us to the next day. When technician arrived, had to press him to honor free labor and waiving service fee ($95.00). Estimate given of $221.00 for cost of replacement part needed that lists on most web sites for between $29-40. Found another company that replaced part and labor costs for under $150.00. They were also on time for appointment.' Pros: none Cons: defaulting on 2 hr service or its free guarantee more

Impeccable Installation of Claw-Foot Tub 11/18/2009

After having several contractors bid on the installation of my claw-foot tub, I had to deal with a lot of missed appointments, no call backs, and people being late even when I was trying to give them money! The installation required some creative rearranging of the existing drain and supply lines. The location of these was in a precarious spot and several people told me that they might have to tear out walls and ceilings in my dining room and kitchen to get it done. I called Gillece and Jerry came out and talked through an approach that made the most sense. The quote was higher than everyone else, but the warranties on my tub and fixtures were only good if installed by licensed plumbers, which Gillece plumbers are. I felt good about going with Gillece but I was still holding my breath after being burned on a previous project that never ended, never completed, and the contractor left it to me to try and track down his workers to show up myself. Jerry from Gillece had a crew manager call me and tell me that the installation would take 3 separate trips and would take 3 days. He said that each day someone would show up at 9. Fast forward... Their guys were early every day, completed everything on time and moved a 350lb tub in, and up a flight of steps without so much as a scratch to a wall and even hauled off my old materials that I had. I can't tell you how happy I am with their service, timeliness, and their respect for leaving no trace. I would recommend them to anyone for any remodeling project. The extra $$ will save you headaches and may wind up being cheaper in the long run. more

Gillece is great service 11/2/2009

We have an older (80+years) but very well kept home. When we called Gillece to fix a clogged sewer, we had a feeling it may need to be replaced, and it did. The treatment we received as far as service and professionalism was fantastic and the job was done right the first time. It WAS expensive, as I would expect any job of this size would be. Besides, where I come from, you get what you pay for….. Pros: professional, courteous, hard working Cons: pricey more

Great service on a weekend 10/31/2009

I called Gillece on a Sunday afternoon. It was my daughter’s 7th B-Day and our whole house was stopped up and the main bathroom was overflowing. I was in a panic with a whole house full of moms and kids. I called at least 10 other companies with no answer or answering services taking messages. One of the moms suggested that I “Call Gillece” and to my surprise, the office was staffed just like it was a regular weekday. The dispatcher assured me he would have a plumber out within an hour. Steve from Gillece showed up at our door within 30 minutes and gave us what he called “temporary relief” but what I call savior. Only charged $99 for the service. First thing Monday morning, they came back and hooked us up with a permanent fix for the problem. Will definitely call again if we have problems and recommend highly. Pros: Fast response and cheap Cons: None more

master rip-offs 10/28/2009

In an emergency situation last winter, Gillece showed up to do a job that comparable companies would charge from $900-$1200. Gillece charged almost $8000. They took advantage of the situation and are sociopathic in their dealings. Whether there is flooding in your home, potentially fatal gas leakage, furnace on fire...whatever. Just leave your home immediately and take the time to do the research on the company you choose to do the work. If I had the time to read the reviews, they would've never been called. They are protected according to the attorney generals's office by PA laws that say they can charge whatever they want, especially in an emergency sitution. BEWARE!!! Do NOT Call them for any reason. Pros: They show up Cons: They show up more
