Fine Dining, Great View 12/24/2004

PCG is all about the high class dining in a high floor of the Koin Tower. Its all about the trendy ambiance here. Watch out for the high prices, most people can't afford McDonalds after eating here. Pros: View, Parking, Food Cons: Wait Time more

Do not recomend 10/14/2004

Made reservations 3 wks in advance fo myself and my 87 year old mother. We arrived 15 min early and were told to wait for a window seat, about 20 min. or go to bar. Needed a table at 12:30 so took a table in the middle with a poor view. Pointed to windo table vacant but were taken to another only slightly closer but still not at the window. Watched as it was filled with 2 people 20 min later. Service slow and I've had better salads at Nordstroms Cafe. If you're 12 and don't care, by all means, but if you are taking your mother for a birthday lunch, take her to the Sky Box, they care! Cons: , food more

fabulous sushi 9/5/2004

I took some out of town relatives to the portland city grill for the view, I had reservations made a week before and we had to wait 45 minutes to get a table( on a tuesday), we started with a sushi combo plate that was so wonderful, but, the rest of our courses where not as pleasant and good, the service was average for fine dining. Pros: SUSHI, VIEW Cons: , FOOD more

Everything Was Excellent 7/19/2004

My fiance and I went for the first time on a Friday night and absolutely loved it. The food was wonderful. We had the California rolls too start off their susi menu and they were perfect. The drinks, bread and salad came propmtly and the main course was perfection and the dessert topped it all off. The service was decent however, we waited for 15-20 min for a table even with a reservation but were rewarded with one of the best seats in the restaurant. We will be back in a heart beat! Pros: Selection, View, Food Cons: , Wait to be seated, Very busy more

One year anniversary 7/14/2004

This was the best choice for our first anniversary. The service was excellent, the food exceptional, and the view amazing. Definetly will make this a regular thing, we both really loved everything about it. In addition, they brought our dessert out with candles on top, as it was our anniversary. Thanks for making it so special. Pros: View, Food, Service more

Come Early! 6/3/2004

If you want to get a good seat for Sunday Happy Hour, get there early! I've been to the Portland City Grill several times over the past few months for their Sunday Happy Hour. My boyfriend and I have gone, just the two of us - we were invited to share a booth w/ another couple. We went w/ groups of friends 4 - 6 in our group. It is difficult to get seating with a group if you do not get there right when they open. We have found ourselves walking around the bar several times looking for a seat. Once have found seats, the service has been good and the food on the Happy Hour menu a good value for tasty, inexpensive appetizers. Pros: Inexpensive, Free Parking Sunday, Tasty Appetizers Cons: , Hard to find seating more

Great View, Okay Service 5/19/2004

Went to Portland City Grill with a group of friends last week. The view was fantastic, happy hour menu was okay but it was way too crowded. The bartenders were GREAT but unfortunately the Waitress that we had was bad... But then we didn't let this ruin our evening. Everything was okay until the bill came.... I paid with my debit card and put $40 cash for gratuity in the sleeve of the folder. She must not have seen that because she RUDELY said to me ""Did you know that Gratuity was not included in the bill?""... I rudely said back to her ""I KNOW"", that's why I put $40 in the sleeve of the folder... She then just walked away without even apologizing. Pros: GREAT View, Bartenders, Strong Long Island's Cons: , That One Waitress more

meat market 3/17/2004

the happy hour is a complete meat market, but if that's what you're into, then the food is decent and the drinks are good. and of course, the view is unbelievable. Pros: happy hour, view, good food Cons: , bartenders, too busy more

Could be so much better! 3/6/2004

When I first visited the Portland City Grill nearly two years ago, I was very impressed. Two years later, I'm no longer impressed. They need to turn it up a notch. The menu never changes, the soups are gross and never change, there are never specials, the seafood menu items differ very little from one another, and many of the menu items are a joke. A salami sandwich at a five-star restaurant? Some of the happy hour items are pathetic. My wife ordered the Thai lettuce wraps and received teriyaki chicken (resembling dog food) custom molded to the shape of the bowl it was probably microwaved in. Portland is becoming a great food city with lots of great restaurants. And while the Portland City Grill is definitely worth visiting for the view, there's not much that makes you want to come back. Pros: Amazing view, Good Steaks, Friendly staff Cons: , Menu never changes, Soups never change more

Bad remodel, bad crowd! 2/6/2004

The meat was a little underdone in the dining room, and way overdone in the bar! When I first stepped off the elevators I expected an ambience of some class, and taste! What I got was that same old lodge look, guys in baseball caps, baggy clothes, flannel, and a shocking overabundance of cheap looking women running around! The decor in that space could have been very contemporary and sleek, with modern art on the walls, especially given the view. A retro 60's mod look would have been a hip way to go as well. It could have been a great spot with a little more refined ambience and people, especially with that view, but I have no desire to ever go back! Pros: View Cons: , Sneakers & baseball c, No ambience more

Enough already. 1/3/2004

Okay, maybe the clientele and employees have a ""go for it"" attitude, as a previous reviewer put it. But the same thing could be said of the drones at a hundred other corporate food factories across this country (P.F. Chang's, anyone?). Yes, the views are spectacular -- I won't dispute that. And the clubby, old-money NYC atmosphere the owners have tried to create is kind of interesting and odd, and definitely not like most Portland bars. But come on. The food stinks. It is utterly, inexcusably bad. This is a place where college students go to feel rich and to see the whole city from up high. Which is fine. But the food tastes like something you'd get at an airport restaurant. In fact, that's exactly what the City Grill reminds me of: an overpriced, devoid-of-character, soulless airport lounge, only this one's thirty floors up. Pros: the view, some yummy drinks, the pianist's medleys Cons: most everything else more

Upscale and Unashamed. 12/27/2003

This is the only bar of its kind in Portland. Upscale, good food, people who are interesting and obviously making something of their lives. In a city known for the Oregon frump look and young duds (no e) who think smoking clove cigarettes make them bohemes, this is a place where yupsters of any age can hang and feel there is more action in Portland than the latest charity drive. So if you miss NYC, LA, or, Gawd forbid, Seattle - Portland City Grill is your oasis. Great sushi, best after work bar in the city, snappy feel, the view, and cool people. Pros: Upscale, hip crowd, Go-for-it atmosphere, Top-end food & drinks Cons: Parking is a pain, Often packed, Slim on appetizers. more

Come for the view, then leave 11/9/2003

I was here one Thursday night for happy hour and had a couple drinks. The service was good for how crowded it was, but the people there were just awful. A bunch of poseurs with an attitude. But I saw this girl eating what looked a spectacular plate of calamari so last saturday I came back around 6pm to try it for myself. The service was polite and prompt, again, but the ""Kung Pao Calamari"" was bland and not quite hot enough, but at $3 I guess you get what you pay for. There were more people pretending to be snobs, of course. This one couple next to me was asking how big the plates were. I felt like saying ""They're $3 apiece, just order 2 and move on with your life you cheapskate!"" Pros: view, low prices, good service Cons: lousy food, stupid wannabe snobs, bad feng more

Good restaurant 9/22/2003

Dined there on Saturday night, consierge at Heathman was able to get us a reservation at 7:30 on Saturday night. Place was packed, we only had to wait about 10 minutes to get seated. Food was very good, our server was great. It was kinda loud, but hey - it's a huge place. Prices are no that bad, when you compare it to other fine restaurants. more

Not worth it... 9/12/2003

After hearing rave reviews about this place, I decided to meet a friend there for happy hour. I guess we were lucky to have a seat at the bar behind an obtrusive esspresso machine... One of the SIX bartenders working came to take our order quickly, but trying to get a second from these guys was impossible. A gentleman picking up on my friend actually had to get someone's attention because HE noticed our drinks had been empty for at least 10 minutes. ...And the male crowd all seemed desperate for any woman in the place to give them some time and attention. There are too many great bars in Portland to waste your time here. Pros: happy hour Cons: service, service, prowling men more

GREAT VIEW, WONDERFUL HAPPY HOUR! 9/2/2003

I'll tell you the aspects that impressed me and my girlfriend after going to this restaurant. The happy hour food items (teriyaki rice paper spring rolls, thai lettuce wraps, and the caesar salad), the drinks, and the view. I didn't like that drinks were not on the happy hour menu, but I felt that the prices for food more than made up for it. I haven't heard too many good things about dinner here, but would still like to try it and get my own personal opinion. I think we probably went at a good time also (Labor Day at around 5:15 p.m.). Our waitress was prompt and very friendly. Pros: Good service, Great view, HAPPY HOUR! Cons: Spendy more

Worst Restaurant in Portland! 8/3/2003

I had reservationsthe views is great but I never saw it after sitting down - our table was right in traffic central, in the middle of the restaurant! I had been told I would get a window seat by the woman on the phone. Bar customers obstructed our view despite signs telling them to respect dining customers views. I asked our hostess to move us to the window when I saw that a table was opening up she explained that those tables are on a special waiting list. I explained we had a reservation and she then said seating is not guaranteed. Interesting considering that I had been told it would not be an issue on the phone. What is the point of a reservation if I have to then come and wait 2 hours to get a window seat!!! Waiter was snotty and service beyond bad. Pros: Downtown, View, 30th Floor Cons: BAD service..., What did you say???, I cannot hear you!!! more

Unimpressed 8/1/2003

I was visiting from out of town and thought this restaurant would be a nice way to sample Portland. I must say I was very impressed by the view and the look of the restaurant. The food was ok but definitely not worth the price. The service was terrible and the wait staff was very snooty and unenthused. The tables are much to close together, you feel as though you are dinning intimately with the table next to you. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I found the staff at the local Olive Garden more helpful and friendly. Pros: View Cons: Poor Service, Loud, Over Rated Cuisine more

I Love the Happy Hour! 7/1/2003

The Happy Hour at the Grill makes me truly Happy. You can't beat the large bowl of fries for $1.95 and the tenderloin sandwich for $3.95. The service is great when you can get a seat and the pianist is always playing my favorites. But what I love most of all are the Martini's. They have one called a Pink Moment and I wish more Pacific Coast Restaurants would carry it. Pros: Parking Validated, Inexpensive Happy Hou Cons: Crowded, Crowded more

The best of Portland 6/11/2003

Our friends from out of town requested a restaurant (their treat!) that really showed Portland off, and of course, my first thought was PCG. The food was incredible, out of this world. All 6 of us ordered a different fish dinner, and all of us left reiterating how delicious it was. The Ono is fantastic! Excellent service, a tad pricey but it's worth it for the view, and definitely a great choice to impress friends with our beautiful city. Pros: Delicious Food, Romantic, Atmosphere Cons: Expensive, Small Menu more
