I was here one Thursday night for happy hour and had a couple drinks. The service was good for how crowded it was, but the people there were just awful. A bunch of poseurs with ...

Diggin' the Raw Fish 10/29/2002

I enjoyed a sushi appetizer followed by the seared ahi. The service was excellent, as our waiter had the ever-so-rare combination of manners, timing, and an appropriate sense of humor. All this paired with a unique ambiance and terrific view made the evening a special one for my wife and I. I'm impressed and have already added it to my top ten haunts for dinner in Portland. Pros: Couteous staff, Wonderful vistas, Killer lemon Drops more

Excellent food! 10/28/2002

Although it started a little rough, even with reservations, we waited for about 20 minutes before being seated for dinner. Both the food and the view were great. Not the most romantic place in town, very loud with the bar not being seperated from the dining area. Pros: View, Food, Free Parking Cons: Very Loud more

Best Happy Hour in Portland 10/28/2002

My husband & I love venturing out to different locations to see what they have to offer for Happy Hour and PCG has the best - hands down! Atmosphere is beautiful; very contemporary, Drinks are very generous for price, service is friendly & attentive and food is superb! Tempura prawns, crab cakes and california rolls melt in your mouth! more

I'll be back. 10/11/2002

Wife and I really enjoyed our experience @ Portland City Grill. We had a reservation on a Saturday in the late evening and we promptly seated. The view is wonderful. The Lobseter Potstickers were a great appetizer. We both had steaks that were perfectly cooked and presented. We wish we had room for desert, they looked great. My wife and I will be back!! Pros: view, food, easy parking Cons: ????? more

Smile Dammit! 10/9/2002

Fantastic view and ambience, but service is slow and unfriendly. Nothing even resembling a smile from the server. Hostesses were very nice. Lobster potstickers were oily and bland. Seared Ahi was great. Scallops were so-so. Food in general reflected more effort on presentation than substance. Cheap Silver Vinter's Cabernet is very nice. View is wonderful. Very romantic. I'd pay $10 for a Big Mac in that environment...but maybe that's the problem. They know it. Ask for a server who's not going through divorce, menopause, or who has just quit smoking. Pros: Ambience, Food Cons: Service, Slow more

Fantastic Above the City 9/19/2002

This place is comfortable, the service excellent, the food is terrific and the view is awesome. Pros: View, Easy Parking, Excellent Service more

sexy 9/18/2002

I being from Las Vegas find this place amazing. Reason is you have amazing drinks for a reasonable price, plus a well stocked bar, the nicest bartenders in town. For Portland this is the best, and I have been to every hot spot in town. For future gowers please dress fasionable not jeans and a t-shirt. Oh yea the restraunt has good food but the staff has no personality. Be friendly I will tip more than 20%. Service makes or breaks a business. Pros: Great food, Good Parking, Happy Hour Cons: Expand bar 6' feet, waiters : (, no olive oil on table more

Line is too long... 9/13/2002

The Portland City Grill is a great place to go and relax. The background music is very nice, but the wait to get into the Grill (in order to check ID) takes way too long. They need to do something to speed up the process! Pros: Paid Parking, Atmoshpere, Happy Hour Appetizers Cons: Too long of wait, Hard to get seating more

Most Impressive!! 9/12/2002

I would definately recommend getting there early! Seating goes quick.....however, the best place I've been in a long time. From great drinks, inexpensive full size happy hour appetizers to impressive bartenders this place really has it all! From anywhere in the lounge or restuarant you get an impressive view of the Portland landscape. Would definately recommend to everyone, except those with children. Pros: awesome views, great happy hour, awesome food! Cons: Get there early seats, Parking expensive more

All this and a view! 9/8/2002

Wow! After my third trip to the Portland City Grill, I am finally stopping to write this review. To start, it has simply one of the best bars in town. Well mixed drinks poured with a generous hand (and a few novelties thrown in, to boot!). The food is sensational! They have their own sushi chef on site and the sushi is superb (try the eel. It even converted my wife, a noted sushi hater!). The main dishes are well prepared and not over-sauced or over seasoned. The steaks are quite good, for a non-steakhouse. Service is always spot on. Oh, and that view! Worth the whole visit. It can get crowded and be prepared to wait if it is. Pros: sushi, drinks in the bar, view Cons: wait, crowded more

Good luck getting a table 9/3/2002

I would love to write a review of ""The Grill"" but I have never been lucky enough to grab a table after work. I have walked around enough to know that the ceilings should have been left alone. For some reason ""The Grill"" decided to lower them, not a good idea when the view is key. I have heard the food is pretty good so I'm giving it 5's. more

Pleasantly surprised! 9/3/2002

I had lunch here and was pleasantly surprised by the prices and the food. They offer a wide selection of food (perhaps too wide), my salmon salad was very tasty. I was very impressed. My friend had a sandwich and was very happy with hers as well. I plan to go back and try other dishes. Same view of the city that Atwaters offered, but definitely a different ""feel"" to the place with the different decor and woodwork. Pros: View, Selection of food more

Portland City Grill... at your own risk. 8/29/2002

Stuck-up, pretentious supervisors and managers have given the Portland City Grill a bad name. While the food and drinks are pretty good and the scenery is amazing, the employees who are supposed to resolve any issues with a calm and cool demeanor are falling severely short of par. Numerous positive experiences have recently been cancelled out by the poor customer service which I received on the most recent visit to Portland City Grill. Would I recommend it to my friends and family? Probably not. There are enormous amounts of other places throughout the Portland area with a far better reputation. Pros: Trendy, Scenic, Clean Cons: Under-Cooked, Bad Service, Poor Attitude more

the best of the best 8/16/2002

this quickly became our favorite hang out. happy hour is awesome. the view is the best. the piano bar is second to none. the servers are efficient, friendly and on top of it all. the food is outstanding. get there early, it is PACKED. needed reservations on a wed evening. prices are also very much in line with the great food and not overpriced like some of the steak houses. Pros: view, piano bar, service Cons: could use a dress cod more

GREAT SERVICE!!! 8/8/2002

I would highly recommend Portland City Grill. Not only is the food fabulous, but it is also a work of art. The staff is quick and attentive and has great suggestions of what to try if it's your first time. All of the seafood has been astounding. Their wine list is quite complete and the staff has been knowledgable of items in stock that compliment eachother. If you are looking for a romantic evening with your special someone or a girls/guys night out, this is the place to go! Pros: Attentive staff, Menu Variety, UNBEATABLE VIEW Cons: Parking for SUV's more

Made our Anniversary special 8/5/2002

Highly recommend the Portland City Grill - food and atmosphere alike were perfect. Must try the wilted spinach salad and save room for cookies (warm from the oven!) and ice cream. Very pleasant staff and a GREAT view. Lots of bang for your bucks. Pros: Easy parking, Great food - menu, Spectacular view Cons: Not, a, one! more

Delicious! 8/2/2002

Dinners are excellent with attentive waitstaff. Happy hour is a fun atmosphere, prices are excellent, and apps are great. Love the view--window seat at night is great! They're open late, free parking downstairs--way better than Jake's! My new favorite hang-out! Pros: great view, good menu selection, happy hour is cheap! Cons: a bit expensive, crowded happy hour more

fabulous 7/29/2002

The service was excellant!!!! Food was the best I've had in portland! The price was high but you get what you pay for. And the view was beautiful! Very impressive! Pros: Good parking more

Melt in your mouth 7/26/2002

We frequently take clients from other countries. They alway love the food and the view. We are never disappointed. It beats the hell out of Jake's where we used to go. more

Top Notch 7/19/2002

As a manager at one of the ""Other Big Boys"" in town, the Grill stands out! The food was excellent, beautifully prepared with interesting flavor combinations. The ambience was, of course, incredible. The bar certainly has a life of its own and a great, inventive happy hour to boot. And the service was some of the best in town. A very high recommendation for the Grill, even if they are the competition. more
