I was here one Thursday night for happy hour and had a couple drinks. The service was good for how crowded it was, but the people there were just awful. A bunch of poseurs with ...

Great view of the city at night 6/15/2007

The food is very good. We went there on our anniversary and had a very romantic dinner. They greeted us nicely and our attendent was very nice. I loved the food. The apetizer was great. We had lobster potlicks and satayed beef. For the main course I had ducks which had a very nice sauce. The presentation of the dishes were great. And the place was 'oh so romantic'. We asked for a table by the window and it was an amazing view. They also gave us a free desert for our anniversary. I would highly recomend this place to any friend. Pros: Very nice service and great food. Cons: N/A more

Send private groups here!!! 6/11/2007

I am a loyal client to Portland City Grill and plan events there all year and have for the last 3 years. The event coordinating staff is the most professional I have ever worked with, the service is fantastic, the food phenominal and of course the view is gorgous. I read the other comment posted about having a negative experience and cannot even imagine that it would go that way. For anyone reading these comments, please know that this person must be the impossible-to-please type because there is no way that an event could go any way other than perfectly. I have many colleagues that use Portland City Grill's Private Dining department as well and have noting but amazing things to say about them. The largest companies in the country go to them and they must go for a reason. DO USE THE PORTLAND CITY GRILL FOR PRIVATE EVENTS, THEY ARE WONDERFUL! more

Contract violation, poor service at Portland City Grill - do not send your group here! 5/30/2007

I organized dinner for a party of 50 at the Portland City Grill and suffice it to say it is the worst experience I have ever had in my career of working with conference meal planning. The service was disastrous. We had asked the food to be ready by 6PM (ordered weeks in advance) as we had a function to attend promptly at 7pm. The restaurant made a mistake in their scheduling and did not manage to rush our food out until 6:35 - which as the organizer, left me highly embarrassed. They did not apologize, although they acknowledged the mistake was there own, and emails since have been snippy to say the least. Cons: Poor group service more

Not just sorta bad 5/22/2007

I was recommended this place by the concierge at my hotel specifically as it served later than other restaurants. Really, I just can't believe that this place claims itself to be a sushi restaurant. The Hamachi was obviously many days old and had become greasy and fishy-tasting, OH YUM! I expect to be overcharged at places on the very top of buildings, but just couldn't believe that people are willing to pay these prices to eat such mediocre food. They might as well have put a big sign up that said "" All meals prepared by SYSCO"". Our server was very scarce. Overall, I felt like I had come to a midwestern country club, Not just sorta bad, really bad. Pros: View is nice when clouds let up Cons: Food is not something you want to eat more

Great food and an amazing view. 4/28/2007

This place was awesome, i'd heard alot about it from friends and such. I went on the wrong night (prom night) but I still got seating in about half an hour. They offered a salad with my meal and caesar is apparently $6.00 more than regular but i wasn't aware. Everything was really great though, there were fireworks going off across the bridge and it made for a great setting. I recommend it. more

Great views, great food 3/22/2007

Arrived on a Friday, mid-happy hour. Was hoping to enjoy appitizers and drinks, but lounge was packed. The dining area had lots of open tables with views and we were promptly seated. Our waiter ,Eric, was spot-on, and had helpfull reccomendations. The wine list had plenty of optionsand I thought just a bit ecclectic. My companions light meal of tempura shrimp and spinich salad was terrific and my Sturgeon over mashed potatoes was delicious. Add in the beautiful view and it added up to a great dining experience. Pros: Great views, good service, great food Cons: Nearby street constuction makes parking a bit confussing more

AMBIENCE, ROMANCE, SERVICE, CONVERSATION! 1/7/2007

As a Portland native I am somewhat regretful to write that last evening was my first experience with Portland City Grill (All those wasted years)! My husband and I made reservations along with three other couples for a surprise birthday dinner. Although at first glance upon entering it may seem a bit hectic with the lounge and people standing in the entry, the ambience glows with warmth and texture. There is a feeling of comfort and a fragrant mixture of delightful aroma the minute the elevator doors open. Pros: Parking, location, ambience, service, cuisine, views, menu, drinks more

Best View in town 12/30/2006

We went here for dinner about a week ago and the view was amazing! The food was fantastic, and the service superb! I wil diffenitely be back. Pros: everything more

Great evening 12/13/2006

We went to the Portland City Grill to view the Christmas ships. Even though they looked small from the tower, we had an excellent evening. The food and service were excellent. Highly recommended. more

not bad service, NO SERVICE! what's the point of good food when there's NO service? 12/13/2006

we waited 15 min to get water, then begged a busboy to take our drink order b/c the waiter was ignoring us. he obliged but the drinks never came. 30 min into being seated, NO DRINK! NO SERVICE! The male waiter seemed quite attentive to the table of 7 young ladies next to us, but we were't cute enough I guess. BTW, twice I had to forage for my own chopsticks after the waiter took them & never came back. I also flagged down another server for butter. I was told 20 min AFTER ordering that the entree I chose was out. Why so long? By that point I lost my appetite. I admit, the quality of the food is outstanding, however, at their prices I expect service, some service...just enough to serve me a drink if I have a long wait for food, I am fine with a drink, but NO drink? NO anything? Oh, the bread plate was served with dinner, after the appetizers. Don't they usually serve that while you're waiting? Like when they serve water? Oh yeah, we didn't get water. There are enough other Portland restaurants that serve delicious food at a more reasonable cost and will provide service. Why pay top $$ at Portland City Grill? I won't again! Never! Pros: I'd say quality food, but service was so nightmarish that I lost my appetite Cons: SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE ... NO SERVICE!! more

Great Time for Our Group Event. 11/25/2006

I just read the review regarding the bad service for a group event. I'm sorry theirs turned out so bad as ours on the other hand was wonderful. We booked a party of 33 for my daughters 16th birthday and reserved the room in January. The event was Friday evening and as soon as we arrived the room itself took our breath away. We have dined here many times and always had great service and this time it was just as good, if not better. Our appetizer was set out at 6:45 as ordered and the dinner service began promptly at 7 pm and went off without a hitch. The food was wonderful and the service was impecable. Yes, the bill was a little more than what we discussed but it was only because the few adults that were there drank more wine than I thought we would. Please try them for a group event. Alyssa and Joanna were great to work with and even went out of their way to accomodate some special orders that normally aren't on the private dining menu. Pros: Perfect for a special event! Cons: Noisy Bar on the Weekend more

Try the happy hour 11/17/2006

Have only been here a few times, but I have never had bad food or bad service. The happy hour is always a great way to start your evening. more

great happy hour and great customer service 11/13/2006

The happy hour menu is great, low prices, wonderful food and great service. I also went here for dinner and the menu is great for dinner. The waitress was the best waitress I have ever had. It was a great night. What I don't like is that you can't ask for seating by the window when you make your reservations. I don't know if it was the person who took our reservations or what but they won't let you sit by the window until you get there then you can request it and it is usually not available. Pros: Great service and food. Cons: Can't sit by the window. more

Worst service! 11/3/2006

Just got back from eating lunch at Portland City Grill. One of the worst service experiences. Food was alright...but lunch took WAY too long and had to ask the server over and over again for things we needed at the table, like WATER! more

Best Overall Restaurant in Town!!! 10/19/2006

This is my favorite restaurant in Portland. Everything is good: best filet mignon, sushi, seafood, happy hour, view, drinks, people watching! What more could you ask for? Their happy hour is the best in town, extensive wine list. Diverse scene from business folk to young hipsters. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: seating in the bar is hard to find at night more

Best steak in town! 10/15/2006

I loved this place, the view was amazing and the steak is to die for! However I would recommend making reservations first we had to wait about in hour to be seated. But it was worth it! Pros: food, view, service Cons: wait more

Not only the BEST view in all of Portland, but the BEST food! 10/14/2006

I took my husband to the Portland City Grill for his birthday. Being relatively new to the area, I did not know what to expect, but thought worst case scenario, we would have a great view. We arrived one hour prior to our reservation (which is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!) and went into the lounge to listen to music at the piano bar and relax. Service was excellent, very accomodating and very prompt for as busy as it was. Ladies, if you like martinis, get the Rose Drop Martini, absolutely awesome. Pros: View, food, service! Gotta love that Rose Drop Martini Cons: Could not get reservations during timeframe that I preferred. more

Nice view 9/30/2006

The view was amazing. The service could use a little work, but not bad. We were dressed nicely, but that should not matter. Service should be excellent whether you dress up or down, after all Portland is Portland. People love this city because of the casualness of it. The food was good, not great. all in all, guests expect great service and food when they visit this place and should always recieve it. I do not see myself going back until two things happen...better service...better food...or if these items will not change ... then lower your prices. Pros: View, View, View Cons: service and high quality meals more

Grill it up! 7/29/2006

Despite all the 'Not Recommended' Posts, our experience was great. The sushi is wonderful and the shrimp tempura was cooked perfectly. Both my date and I had King Crab and were wholly satisfied. The meal was rounded out with gooey freshly baked cookies. We sat in a booth looking North-East, the tables next to the windows are overrated. We were up higher and could see out every window. At sunset Mt. Hood appeared in a rosy glow, it was very romantic. more

total let-down 7/6/2006

i am sad to say we did not leave with a very good taste in our mouth....i made reservations for a romantic birthday dinner and was eager to try it out. we did get seated promptly, but RIGHT next to the kitchen entrance. not a mention was made about it being a birthday supper, even though i included it in the reservation run-down. loud talking and dishes clashing all evening. our waiter was a a bit chilly at first and didn't warm up till the very end, when we were getting ready to pay... he also seemed a bit miffed that we didn't order appetizers. had the sushi (which was good) and the pork tenderloin(so-so, not very warm). might have mentioned this to someone, but our server never asked. the view was nice, but could have found many other places in town with a great view, AND good service/food. we won't be back. Pros: view, sushi Cons: everything else: service, potatoes more
