I was here one Thursday night for happy hour and had a couple drinks. The service was good for how crowded it was, but the people there were just awful. A bunch of poseurs with ...

Best view in portland 6/14/2006

I went to city grill for the first time last night. It is enourmous, and extremely vibrant. The service is good, the food is even better, nice wine list, and after dinner, me and my husband played pool and drank more wine! a very romantic, and up-beat place I would reccomend it to anyone, Especially people from out of town! more

Reservations? 4/30/2006

My date and I arrived just before our reservations to grab a drink before before being seated. 45 minutes later we were shown to our table. Aside from that food was good, martinis were great and the view was breathtaking...... the date? Well, that's another story! Pros: View more

What a Joke 4/9/2006

I have eaten at restaurants all over the world and this place was awful. The bartenders were flat out rude. Our food took forever and my steak was way over done. I alerted the server and they did nothing to fix it. I spent over $250.00 and still left hungry and disapointed. Go for the view and nothing else. There are much better dining options just a few blocks away. Pros: View Cons: Service, Steak, Bartenders more

Great view and wonderful food! 3/15/2006

My boyfriend decided @ 3pm on Sunday we should go to dinner-we chose PCC not sure we could get a reservation on such short notice, we took a chance & called-we were able to get reservation at 6:15pm-awesome!When we arrived my kids were the youngest there-mainly adults at PCC.We were seated against the windows facing north! My kids were so excited! We started with Sushi platter and shrimp tempura it was fabulous! I had this wonderful German wine that I can't remember the name, it was Princess something? sweet and smooth tasting. I ordered butterfish and it was fabulous! For dessert the kids had a bread pudding with whip cream, topped with a candle-what a wonderful way to end the everning. I will defintly be back to PCC-my kids had such a wonderful time and I'm sure they will remember the view for a long time! Pros: View, Food, Service more

what a beautiful view 1/4/2006

Of course the view from the 31st floor of any building in down town Portland will be beautiful, but adding great drinks, good food, and easy on the eye people - this place is one of the greatest places for a date or to go with girlfriends. I take all of my out of town visitors here. Pros: view, happy hour, food Cons: crowded more

WORST XMAS DINNER EVER! 12/25/2005

We arrived 20 minutes before our 4:00 reservation. The hostess had no record of our reservation, despite the fact that we called two weeks before Christmas to book it, and had confirmed the reservation the day before. Ten minutes later, we were escorted to a small, wobbly table which was pushed against the wall. The buffet selection was pedantic. I asked for a slice of roast beef that wasn't rare and was given a hunk of grizzle instead. I asked if I could have a slice of the other side and have it cooked more. I was told that it was too busy, and that perhaps I should try the turkey. The final bill for the 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back-90.78 My Christmas started out pleasant and ended on a sour note as a result of the GRINCH, a.k.a. Portland City Grill. Cons: disorganized, rude staff, poor selection more

PHENOMENAL 9/19/2005

I had been to the bar for happy hour a few times but finally made it for dinner this last weekend and I can't even tell you how amazing and delightful everything was. The sushi is by far the best in town... always so so fresh and yummy. I had the steak, my friend had the sturgeon and we shared. Everything was beyond perfect. My steak couldn't have been more perfectly prepared. The martinis were wonderful... even the water was good. Service was amazing and I can't wait to go back! Two thumbs up! Pros: Food quality, Ambiance, Service Cons: a little noisy more

I love the Portland City Grill! 9/18/2005

This place is great for after work. The views of the city are just outstanding.....and the food and drinks are pretty good too! more

PCG...Hard to beat this dining experience! 8/17/2005

I have been to PCG several times now and have never had a run in with bad service, bad food or bad anything! The one thing about this place is that if you are going to go for dinner, no matter what night it is, you must have reservations or you will be waiting to be seated for quite a while. And it is understandable. Once you get seated in the dining room or in the beautiful bar you'll never want to leave. There is not a bad seat in the house and the 360 panoramic views are amazing! The appetizers are great (try the lobster won-tons)! All the food is so yummy and beautifully presented. You must have the fresh-out-of-the-oven chocolate truffle and macadamia nut cookies with vanilla and chocolate ice cream (this is worth the trip all by itself)! Plus it's all so affordable for so much class! Pros: View, Food, Everything Cons: You won't want to go! more

Obnoxious & Smokey 8/13/2005

The idea is great: extraordinary food, top quality service, best view in the city... but the reality is entirely different. The food is mass produced / commerical quality, the service is OK, and the thick cigarette smoke wallowing out of the bar is enough to kill any non-smokers appetite. A quick scan of the scantily clad singles lingering around like a bad cold; and you realize it's a meat market - not a serious restaurant. The happy hour menu looked good, so we tried that once... good luck getting a table in the fend-for-yourself, find your own table chaos. We finally found a table that was leaving, until a slimeball came up pushed my wife out of the way and offered the table $20 for their seats! Save your money and go to a real restaurant.. Portland has a lot of them, and this isn't one. Pros: view Cons: obnoxious atmosphere, no parking, mediocre food more

good place for view and food 7/3/2005

This is a place to go for special ocassions. It is a good restraunt upscale and not cheap. It is one of theonly few bars and restraunts in portland you are not going to see scummy people at or obnoxious rude customers. I also recommend it for happy hour they have good happy hour. Pros: good happy hour, good view Cons: busy more

So far, three for four... 6/23/2005

My wife and I have had four meals there and three were good and a good value, one, not so much. Overall, however, I would feel pretty comfortable recommending it. Pros: food, service, view Cons: Lmtd menu more

Fairly Satisfied 5/6/2005

I looked through a hundred reviews and decided on PCG for our two-yr anniversary, opting for a view. The veiw was lovely and the service was outstanding. The mussels in red curry suace appetizer was fantastic, as were my cocktails (recommend French Martini). His steak was worth every penny, but my dinner was so-so, the large prawn skewers, and the mashed potatoes were a little blan. I think if I had ordered something else, say the seafood pasta, i would have been delighted. The vanilla bean creme brulee was.....perfect, I wanted another. The atmosphere was just as they describe, casual elegance.....very comfortable. I recommend and hope to return to experience happy hour soon. Pros: Drinks, Appetizer, Service Cons: My Dinner, Mash Potates more

Great Experience 4/28/2005

I loved Portland City Grill. I recently graduated from Western Culinary Institute's Hospitality and Restaurant Management program, and this restaurant was where I choose to eat at. My parents came into town and they heard about this restaurant all the way in San Diego! Everything was great. The service was wonderful, and being a graduate I know exactly what to look for in a server. Mark, the server, was very patient with my family and knew that we wanted to spend hours there. He never failed to amaze me and my family. The manager comped me a free dessert because of my graduation and offered us one of the best seats in the house, also offered me a tour of the restaurant. The Portland City Grill is as good as it sounds and thanks to the service at this restaurant, they made a special day even more special. Thank You! Pros: wonderful food, exceptional service, beautiful view Cons: mashed potatoes more

Overrated but still a decent place 4/3/2005

People talk about Portland City Grill like it is the nicest restaurant in town sometimes and this is giving it way too much credit. The decor is boring and the staff isn't all the friendly or well trained. And worst of all every grungy, class-less person in town comes here for their ""big night out."" But the place isn't all bad. The food is decent, happy hour is great and the bar is O.K. It is worth going for a happy hour cocktail and some sushi but don't expect the experience of a lifetime. Pros: Nice view, Great happy hour, Some variety Cons: Poor ambiance, Slightly overrated, Played out more

Good 3/26/2005

I enjoyed my experience there. The food is pricey, but very tasty. The menu would be limited to diners with any kind of food restrictions. Being pregnant and lactose intolerant, there was only a few things I felt comfortable eating. The service was great. We were promptly seated and served. The waiters seemed to be working very hard. The atmosphere and views were nice also. We went here for our anniversary and would recommend it for anybody who wants a special night out. The drink menu also seemed reasonably priced and had a good selection. Pros: Views, Atmosphere, Service Cons: Selection, Price more

Ehh 2/11/2005

Nice place, went to the evening happy hour. Our waitress took forever to come over to us. I ordered a vodka tonic and my tonic was flat. We told her about it and she ""forgot"" to bring me a new one twice. Pros: Cheap food, nice view if u get 1 Cons: BUSY more

Great Portland Experience 1/4/2005

After a couple less than great dinners in Portland, I was pleased to splurge for a wonderful dinner at the Portland City Grill. The wait for a table (even w/ reservations) was a little tiring, but everything else was excellent. Even the wait in the bar was tolerable thanks to a some nice piano music and a warm atmosphere. Delicious crab cakes, expertly cooked lamb and a perfect dessert made our night memorable and romantic. Would recommend to any friends. Pros: Crab Cakes!, Service, View more
