I was here one Thursday night for happy hour and had a couple drinks. The service was good for how crowded it was, but the people there were just awful. A bunch of poseurs with ...

The food is wonderful, the staff is very attentive, the place is always busy! Goes to show that a great restaurant with a great view does exist! Pros: Friendly Staff, Great food Cons: Confusing Parking more

The Best in Town 6/16/2002

Wow!!! I've been hearing about the new restaurant in Big Pink downtown, but i decided to wait until my birthday to give it a try. I wish i wouldn't have waited, it's the best place in town. The moment the elevator doors open on the 30th floor, you can feel the energy. I can't believe how busy it was. Granted it was a Saturday night, but i'm sure there's not a place in Portland doing the business they are. I wondered if it was just because of the view, that thought soon left my mind. From the Host to our server, service was outstanding. The food was was very good as well. Wonderful Presentation. Thanks City Grill for offering Sushi, most restaurants in Portland wouldn't attempt to dive into that one. Okay, now i'm rambling.... let me end with this...Portland City Grill, you're the best. Pros: Validated Parking, The Staff, The View more

What were they thinking?? 6/16/2002

I generally don't take the time to write or remark about restaurants, but i had to this time. The Portland City Grill is amazing. After reading some local food critics ""dish"" the new restaurant were the old Atwaters used to be, i had to step up to the plate. I've been to the new and ""beautiful"" restaurant a half a dozen times. Each time, i keep getting more and more delighted. The staff was friendly, accomodating and knowledgeable. The food rates up there with some of the best reataurants i've eatten at in New York, Paris and San Fransico. The decor is elegant, yet fun. So, this goes out to all future visitors of Portland. If you want a great meal, with great servie and the best view in the city, make your reservations now, because everyone else is. Pros: Food/Service, View, Wine List Cons: It's busy more

Best view... and not of the city 6/15/2002

Was in the Portland City Grill meeting friends in the overly crowded bar late Saturday night... extreme frustration trying to get in past the tuxedo'd doorman and I was about to give up. But after a chat with the extremely beautiful and sweet hostess at the front desk, the wait passed like no time at all. One look at the crowd inside and I was about to give up hope of ever finding my friends, but the savvy and super-cute manager not only helped me find my friends, but she stopped by twice to make sure me and my friends were being taken care of. This staff is not only gorgeous, but they're helpful as well. Hats off for finding such helpful hotties!!! more

Not at your service 6/3/2002

Food was great for happy hour only but the service in the bar was cold and uninviting. The only other time we were in here for dinner, the service was pretentious, our server was a ""food server"" and that was it. Very uncaring with little attention and no follow-up. I hope the PCG doesn't fall into the same pitfall as its predecessor whereas the view will make up for lack in everything thing else---NOT ON YOUR LIFE!!! Hey folks stick to the happy hour food and prices and a drink, if you can get it. Dinner is a no-no... Pros: View, Happy hour food/price Cons: Service, Service, Service more

Fantastic B-Day dinner 5/27/2002

We had a great time celebrating my wife's birthday with another couple here. The view was clouded in, but still beautiful and the food was excellent. We had spicy tuna rolls and oyster rockefeller for apps; bleu cheese top sirloin, macadamia crusted mahi-mahi, pan seared sturgeon, and lamb chops for the entrees; and topped it off with bread pudding, chocolate torte and fresh baked cookies w/ice cream for dessert. The seafood and steak/chops were excellently prepared. Our friend got the sturgeon to compare it with Jake's and liked it better here. The cookies are to die for. They take 20 minutes to prepare, but are worth the wait and big enough to share with the whole table. I will definitely will be going back. Pros: Validated Parking, Good portion sizes, Great view more

Sky High in Portland 5/24/2002

I found the people of The Grill to be friendly & responsive - when they have the time. Friday & Saturday nights are a zoo for the 30-something meat-market. However, Sunday thru Thursday afternoons are delightful; not only for the view but for the staff. Especially the day bartender (M-F); great drinks & a great deal of laughter! For a place that has only been in operation since March they have already made several impressive changes to speed service & quality to their customers. I agree with the 9 rating on all levels! Pros: View, Drinks, Comfort Cons: Fri & Sat Nite Crowds, Smoking more

WE LOVED IT!!! 5/21/2002

This is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion, wine and dine clients, or simply spoil yourself with great food and service. The wine menu is superb, if you are so inclined. We ordered the small steak and lobster (which is still huge!) and loved it. Probably the best steak I've ever had. The opakapaka was great, too. Service was friendly and professional, and the atmosphere was beautiful. The prices were reasonable, too. Pros: validated parking, value, atmosphere Cons: not child friendly more

Great remodel 5/13/2002

It's a beautiful space, with a view from every table. The bar, in particular, has great seating: comfy armchairs and coffeetables by the windows, tall bar tables and stools in the middle, and big, high booths around the inside. The mahi mahi and ahi dishes I tried were very good. Great happy hour menu, too. Pros: view, happy hour bargains more
