You are so very on the spot correct!! This builder has taken our life savings and we are left without a home or our money. The bank foreclosed on the home she was building for us ...

I have a lovely house by ENCH 3/8/2011

All these negatives written about ENCH is ridiculous. Anyone who really built a home with Elizabeth Newman or knows her would know the fore written would be people who have sour grapes or just didn't get what they wanted somewhere along the line. I built a million dollar home with ENCH and not only was it a good experience all in all, I got my dream house. Of course there were bumps along the way. Its custom home building. Nothing ever gets built exactly perfectly like you want it. And true it did take longer than expected. But no gripes here. We are so happy with our home. Not only is it beautiful, but it is super energy efficient. more

Should be in Jail!! Would love to JOIN CLASS ACTION 9/25/2009

You are so very on the spot correct!! This builder has taken our life savings and we are left without a home or our money. The bank foreclosed on the home she was building for us and she kept $249,000.00 that we had given to her! It is unsecured debt & judgment would not make her pay us back it is only a judgment! We would love to join a class action against her. We started down that road but when the Dallas Home Builders Assoc. made her a VP, our attorney couldn't take our case any longer due to conflict o finterests.Too expensive and with out our savings we are left with nothing to fight with. She deserves jail time for sure. Cons: All CONS more

BUYER BEWARE - VERY VERY DISHONEST INDIVIDUAL 1/31/2009

I cannot agree more with the previous posts / not much to add but I could almost promise you that the previous posts that have four or five stars are posted from Elizabeth herself or on of her daughters who also work for the company...""no bs' should be changed to NOTHING but BS - Don't believe and buyer beware! Pros: Cannot think of one Cons: I think this builder builds with legos and probably could not even afford a new updated lego set! more

STILL ALL WET 1/30/2009

I am the unfortunate owner of a ""Elizabeth Newman Custom Home"". My roof leaks, my windows leak, my doors leak and windows have never shut property (warranty nullified due to poor installation). STAY AWAY, if I would have only done my homework on this poor excuse for a builder. She never returns phone calls and has no employees left from what I understand (all walked out on her). I feel for the poor landscaper and we have a roofer who stopped by our house one day to see if we were home. He told us he and his company are owed for three houses and she had the nerve to offer to pay them 1/3 of the total amount owed (he said not enough to even cover materials). I do not know this industry well but I would think as the word gets out, which it seems it has, she will owe enough people to get a class action law suit, I AM IN! Cons: She paid D magazine to be ""Builder of the Year"" - IT IS AN ADVERTISEMENT, kind of false advertising don't you think?!? more

BEWARE OF ELIZABETH NEWMAN AND HER LACK OF BUILDING ABILITIES AND THEFTS 1/27/2009

I CONTINUE TO READ COMMENTS AND FEEDBACK ON THIS BUILDER WHICH I UNFORTUNATELY BOUGHT A HOUSE FROM A YEAR AGO. I WOULD BE REMISS NOT TO CHIME IN....SHE IS A HUGE CON, HER COMPANY IS BANKRUPT AND IS ONE OF THE MOST DISHONEST HUMAN BEINGS ON THE PLANET. SHE WILL GET WHAT SHE DESERVES BUT NO POTENTIAL HOMEOWNER SHOULD EVER CONSIDER DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS SNAKE. HER REPUTATION IS HORRIBLE AND I AM HOPING THIS MESSAGES KEEPS OTHERS FROM BEING BURNED. DALLAS HAS SOME A CLASS HOMEBUILDERS, THIS COMPANY IS DEFINITELY NOT ONE OF THEM.....FROM HER REMODELING TO NEW CONSTRUCTION - EVERYONE I KNOW HAS HAD A POOR EXPERIENCE - I WOULD NEVER POST ANYTHING UNTRUE, BUT IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK AS ""ANDY"" STATES, YOU WILL FIND THAT A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF PEOPLE FIND HER AND THIS COMPANY CORRUPTED, UNETHICAL AND MOST OF ALL DISHONEST. STAY AWAY AND BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! more

Builder or CON ARTIST? 11/17/2008

It has taken me a long time to decide the right thing to say about my experience with Elizabeth Newman and ENCH. First and foremost, D Homebuilder of the Year is a PAID advertising gimmick which anyone asked to pay a certain fee, will be included in this list. This company has one of the worst reputations in the building community amongst its peers and everyone I have talked to has confirmed her product results in POOR construction quality. The company does not pay its bills and when they were building our house we actually had sub-contractors contact US to get paid. Long after we moved in the calls and personal visits from such vendors continued. All repeated the same things, they had just begun working with this company and had not been paid and the receptionist (a relative of the accounting clerk) would not put calls through to either Elizabeth or our Superintendent. Our own Superintendent communicated to us that he had not been paid in months and Elizabeth the President Owner continued to bonus herself monies while living out of the construction loan money provided from the Buyer's banks (ILLEGAL). We only saw Ms. Newman once during the debacle. The committed to a 9 month build time which took almost 18 months to complete which she blamed on US!!! Pros: Price is Right - But there is a Reason Cons: Too Many to List Here more

Great Homebuilder, Great Value and No B.S.! 8/31/2008

My family highly recommends Elizabeth Newman Custom Homes. Our experience has been wonderful. The process has been rather delightful considering our last 2 building nightmares. I read the review from the previous employee wrote, and while he wasn't a part of the construction team that built my house, I do know who he is and that he his review is just sour grapes from being terminated. Liz Newman was very generous to us during the process. Allowed us to live in another one of her properties while our house was completed since we sold our house before it was finished. John Jayroe, the construction manager went above and beyond to get our house finished quickly but with quality in mind and with very few items left outstanding as we moved in, which was a first for us in our 3 times home building. Liz Newman was very involved in the process herself. She worked dlilgently to make sure we thought about every item we wanted included up front to make sure we didn't have to come out of pocket for it later. Another thing we never experienced with our previous builders was the honesty and straight forwardness we received from both Liz and John. If they didn't think it would look good they told us, if it wasn't possible they told us and they were realistic with timelines. Wow! What a unique characteristic for a builder! Bravo ENCH team! Bravo! Annie, Peter, Jude and Jade York more

As a quick correction to a previous comment: They are not late payers, as far as I'm concerned... they did not pay my company a VERY substantial bill at all. Still waiting for a miracle... more

Terrible Ethics and Poor Employer. I would be weary of buying, read on.... 5/23/2008

I formerly worked for this company and I will give you insight on the people you could be buying from. I was hired on to do warranty work and what I can tell you is that before my hiring there was a bunch of work to be done. 25 houses with warranty items over a YEAR long had not been taken care of. That right there should tell you about customer service and their priorities. Also the way they run their business is very questionable legally. They told me I would be an employee but really they meant you will be subcontracting for us and we will not be paying your taxes. ( this means they can hide it under the carpet and ave money as a buisiness...way to take care of your employees ENCH) . In fact, the receptionist is also a subcontractor, thats how crumby it is...and she is the CFO's sister! Also Jim required me as work to work on his personal home and remodel for him for a month. He even had me help move Liz and He into their new house, and do some wiring, with, no sort of compensation. Now I have been in the position as Contractor and one thing I can tell you is that you dont require or ask your employees to do personal work for you without any compensation. Moving on though, the main reason I would steer you away from ENCH is because of the way they handle subcontractors. They pay subcontractors very late after work has been completed and go through them like water. Part of it is finding good work, but let me ask you a question. Would you want to do work for someone who won't pay their bill on time? Thats how ENCH operates and why they go through so many subcontractors. Now think about this as well for a moment. Why would you buy a house from someone who has new subcontractors that they have never worked with, or worked with very minimally? I mean to me, you want to have a good relationship with those who help get your houses built or else you could come up with sub-par construction just depending on who they hire next to fill in the gap...just think about it. more

ENCH + US = HAPPY HOMEOWNERS, HAPPY FAMILY 2/28/2008

My wife and I couldn't be more pleased with Elizabeth Newman and her team. What a pleasant surprise it was to find a home builder with so much talent, heart, and creativity. We wanted a custom home, but didn't know where to beging with design and architecture. She built our fantasy into a reality. Our family now lives in our gorgeous, custom home and feels ourselves lucky to have taken a chance on ENCH only to have out dreams surpassed for under our budget! You would be wise to ingore the two bad reviews posted. I know the homeowner who wrote one of them....not a pleasant person in any situation. Their home is not a happy one like ours. We are so blessed and so please with ENCH. Even our children want ENCH to build their first home when they grow up. How cute is that! Liz herself was available to us and never made us feel like we were encroaching on her time. I recommend her and refer potential homebuyers to ENCH all the time....one has even purchased a spec home from her! They love ENCH too. more

EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS!!!! 8/16/2006

I have to say that we could not be happier with our ENCH home. In designing and building our custom home we were very impressed with the entire team at Elizabeth Newman Custom Homes. Any concerns or questions were addressed promptly, the builder was available to meet with us when needed and any mistakes (yes, there were a few) were corrected to our complete satisifaction. We understood going into this process that this was a custom home, knew that we needed to allow our builder to do his job (wife was a little too hands on at times) and the end result was BEAUTIFUL! We felt very comfortable with our builder, Dee, and knew that he would exceed all of our expectations. We are excited about our new home, love entertaining our family and friends in our new home. The customer service after closing (especially Leslie!), has been very thorough and our 30 day list was completed in a timely and efficient manner. They worked with our schedules, even had their staff at our home to meet with vendors when we were not available to ensure that the work was done. We continue to recommend Elizabeth Newman to everyone looking to build in the Lake Highlands area. Pros: Great staff, very detailed, extremely professional and enjoyable experience more

Great Home Buying Experience 8/6/2006

We did not have ENCH build a custom home for us, but we did buy an ENCH model home. I will say this - the service has been personable, professional, and ENCH did a fantastic job building this house. The layout, detail and quality of the home were as good as we have seen anywhere. Yet, what really impressed us was the service we received from the owner, Liz Newman, personally. She treated this resale house as a custom home, and went above and beyond our expectations. Liz took the time to personally meet with us on several occasions - going beyond her obligations and improving the small details such as installing new carpet, painting, cleaning, and landscaping - the house looked and performed like new when we moved in. Well after our purchase of her home, Liz has been available to answer questions and she has also provided us with numerous referrals to vendors and service providers ENCH utilizes, and the after-market services and products they have provided to us, also reflect highly upon ENCH -- all have been very good. Buying from ENCH was a great experience for us. Highly recommended. more

Great House-- On Time, On Budget 8/6/2006

ENCH has exceeded our expectations in building a custom home on time, on budget while delivering a beautiful, high quality home. In addition, working with them has been a pleasure. Every step of the way, they have been professional, courteous, customer-focused, and extremely responsive. We really appreciated their focus on ensuring that the house plans were exactly what we wanted and included every detail upfront, in order to avoid costly changes later. And, when we did make changes after construction began, they proved to be very flexible, accommodating, and fair. We have not faced a problem that did not have a solution. Furthermore, the communication between ENCH and us has been impeccable. We always knew what type of work would be occurring or had occurred at the house. They have listened to our concerns and needs and have followed through on their word. We would recommend ENCH to anyone considering building a new home or remodeling an existing home. more

D Magazine's Best Builder exceeds expectations 7/26/2006

ENCH went above and beyond in the construction of our home. We received high quality appliances, hardware, and finishings as standard with the home that most builders would consider to be upgrades. They were helpful, detail oriented, and took care of everything ensuring we would be more than satisfied with the final product. We had very few problems and anything that went wrong was corrected quickly and at no extra cost. We could not have asked for an easier or more pleasant experience building our new home and we have enjoyed every moment we have spent inside. Highly recommended! Pros: Detail oriented, quality flooring, fast and helpful communication! Cons: build time was slightly longer because they were such perfectionists about the details. more

Do not build with ENCH 5/15/2006

I understand the first reviewer's pain; however, even standing over them during construction is not adequate. We were actually criticized for wanting to be involved in the construction of our home. We have had problems from start to finish. Our roof leaks, the brick job is sloppy and uneven, the Tyvek was installed wrong, we had a very costly mistake during framing, and the process has been extremely slow (over 13 months), just to name a few. Our house was also turned over to us without being cleaned and we were told it was a 'construction clean' and that there would be dust. They did nothing to remedy the situation and as a result, we had to hire and pay for a separate maid service. Our wood floors are ruined and have been redone 3 times and are still not corrected. BOTH of our AC units went out within 3 days of closing so we had no AC for an entire weekend in our brand new house. Additionally, our final walkthrough list was never completed and there are numerous cosmetic defects throughout the house. Even our third-party home inspector commented on their lack of attention to detail and their sub-par subcontractors. They have very poor communication within their organization, which will be reflected in your house through their mistakes. Be sure to read your contract VERY carefully as they will try to charge you extra for items that are in your contract. I recommend going with any other builder except ENCH--we wish we had. Cons: poor quality, poor service, poor communication more

Not living up to their mission statement 2/18/2006

I bought a 4 bedroom, e bath home from ENCH last year. Soon thereafter we learned that the wiring of all the bathroom plugs was on the same fuse and blew whenever two bathrooms were using a hair dryer. ENCH sent out their current electrician who reports the wiring was not adequate for the size of the house. They no longer use the company that wired this home. I was later told that the wiring ""was within code"" and they were not responsible for fixing it even though it is not up to industry standards for the home. Do not buy her homes unless you are able to stand over them at all times to make sure you don't have problems with inadequate construction. Pros: Nice BBQ, Good wood floors Cons: Poor service, Poor wiring, Door knbs falling off more
