On Saturday,December 13, 2014, I had a water filter under my kitchen sink split and water was spraying everywhere. A friend came over and turned the water off. I called A-1 American and they sent Master Plumbers John and Larry. They were very knowledgeable and assessed the problem right away. They asked me if I wanted the filter replaced or simply removed. Since I have filtered water from my refrigerator, I told them to remove it; which they did. I was extremely pleased with the service I received and would definitely recommend A-1. They were prompt, courteous, and very professional. more

Called plumber I have used for years and they couldn't come until next day for my clogged kitchen sink. I walked through my den and their commercial was on, so I waited for the number to pop up and called A-1. Curtis came out and unclogged the sink and found galvanized pipe all under the house that I thought had been removed 7 years ago when I had extensive work done to the house. It needed to be done right, so we told him to go ahead and replace it all with PVC, which he did. It's always a rude awakening when out of the blue things stop working properly, and he assured us that this work would solve our problems. more

I do not live in VA full-time, however, twice, on separate occasions, in the last few months, I needed emergency service on both my water heater and kitchen faucet, and both times A-1 responded immediately and provided quick, efficient and professional services, which respected the short-time we were available at our VA home. We also really appreciated the follow-up they provided as well, to ensure that the replacements and repairs made were satisfactory. more

A-1 arrived on schedule worked diligently and professionally even when they ran into a problem. They solved it and showed me the installation procedure and what they were doing . cleaned up after themselves . Price was fair and reasonable for the work done. Will use again if needed. more

Bryan and his helper did the majority of the work in temperatures in the mid to upper 90's with no shade in the yard. Replaced Sewer and water lines in one day, had us up and running by the afternoon. Back filled the hole the next day, working till after 9PM. more

Dear Owner of A-1 American ,\r On July 3, 2014 I feel that you completely put me through the wringer. I chose you because I watched Channel 13 and saw your commercial and your support for the local military in which I feel very strongly about. My ac was out and your company gave me a window of 12-4pm and showed up at after 5pm. David Sloan spent less than 20 minutes to repair a Capacitor ($5- $15 part which I can buy locally). A-1 American initially charged my wife $592 and then he offered a 15% off web discount. My wife called me and when I got mad the tech gave another 15% discount. So the question is, how can you justify charging $592 for a $5-$15 part. My justification is: 1.) my wife was there and not me and you took advantage of her 2.) 4th of July was the next day and you knew I was hosed 3.) Hurricane was next day and knew I was extra hosed 4.) It was our rental property and tenants were getting ready to come home from work. I drove to your office on Tuesday July 8, 2014 and spoke to a manager who chased his tail for 30 minutes and talked in circles. I feel that you are ripping people off and it is not right. The average repair cost on a capacitor is $150-$200 and in rare circumstances $400 being the max...aka extra screwed weekend call on a 100 degree day. I was told by your arrogant manager that since I would probably not return that you would most likely not do anything. That really makes me mad. Why would you not encourage return business. Please call me to discuss. You have my business card that I dropped off with him and my info from invoice. I would like a fair price and that is all I asked from the start. I arrived home (5:00pm) after work to find my upstairs was 91 degrees. I immediately thought the worse. I knew I needed to contact someone, but I didn't know who. I had remembered a commercial I saw on 13 News for A-1, so I decided to call them. I called around 5:30pm that day and the tech was there a little after around 6:30pm. He opened my unit and within minutes and told me exactly what was wrong. He had the part needed in his truck and immediately replaced the bad part. By 7:00pm, everything was fixed and he was off to put out more fires. Excellent Job!!!!! more

The technician who came out today was very polite and professional. He was able to diagnose and fix the problem in under an hour. He was also able to provide advice on how to take care of our unit as well as explain to me how the system works. I would definitely recommend A-1. more

Fernando and Phil really went above and beyond to ensure that the work needed in my home was done efficiently and at the highest of quality. Fernando explained everything to me and when there was an additional problem with my water heater, went above and beyond by calling the manufacturer to utilize the warranty, retrieving the appropriate part, and returning to complete the job. They finished my leaky faucet before I could even check to see how it was going! I will definitely be a repeat customer requesting Fernando every time! more

Jake arrived on time, inspected my stuff and proceeded to give me the best sales presentation I have ever seen. By the time he finished, all the questions I should have asked were answered and all of his recommendations made too much sense to do otherwise. Without a doubt A-1 is the worst company that has ever done any work in my house. They are deceptive, overpriced, they will take as much of your money as they think they can get and will not reply to e-mail or phone calls after. I only wish I had done my research before using them, I could have saved several hundred dollars using a different plumber more

A-1 American came to the house and Shaun B, one of their technicians told her it would cost $511 to replace the thermostat but he would give her a 15% discount plus a $50 credit and replace it for $384. I was working out back when my wife told me what A-1 was going to charge; I went back to the house, looked at Shaun and told him he must be crazy! I told him I could buy a brand new water heater for less than what he was going to charge me to replace a $20 part. He apologized and said he had nothing to do with his company's policy on charges, so I asked him to leave. Shaun then informed me that I would still be expected to pay a $78 service charge for him coming out. I learned my lesson and will never deal with A-1 again! I was expecting to pay about $125 to $200 at the most for changing out a thermostat. I did not expect A-1 not to make a profit but $384 for a 10 minute job for a $20 part is an absolute RIP OFF! Today I will replace the thermostat myself, I called Lowe's and I can get a thermostat from them for $15. I like to think what goes around comes around and one day A-1 American will get what's coming! \r \r Your Desired Resolution:\r I expect a refund on service call.\r more

We called A-1 last year for a furnace issue. William came out and told me what the other plumbers said was not correct after one of them put a valve that didn't solve my problem. I dealt with it for 9 months. When we decided to convert from fuel oil to natural gas, I called William since he was honest with me before. I knew I didn't need anyone else, but William. He and his assistant, Wes, installed my new gas furnace and did a terrific job. They ran into a glitch and called the plumbing supervisor who came by to double check William's assertion. This kind of teamwork and professionalism is invaluable in today's competitive climate. I wholeheartedly recommend A-1, but would ask for William and Wes to do any furnace or boiler work. They have my full faith and trust. more
