Beware stay away ... 12/10/2012

This place should be investigated asap and shut down . BEWARE .. They are absolutely over priced and not compassionate , and they are scammers taking advantage of anyone that walks through the door . they are probably forcing people to put down there animals because of prices and that should be JAIL time for all of them . brought my cat in for a blocked kitty they call it , they wanted to charge me $3800 - 4500 , and there were 3 estimated charged called misc for $400 $ 300 $ 200 ,,, thats were the scam is .My cat had to wait over 45 mins to just get estimate while this was an emergency . I had the same service done for $ 1400 down the street at Downers grove animal hosp . They were like heaven over there , and this VCA was hell . more

knowledgable, organized, courteous 7/22/2011

I drive past about 5 vet clinics to bring my dogs to Arboretum View. They are hands down, the the most up to date and professional vet I have ever dealt with. I have been a dog groomer for 10 years and have had experience with many. Arboretum understands the importance of prevention, not just quick and temporary fixes like so many other vets. It is extremely frustrating being in my profession, suggesting something for a dog to prevent it's skin from flaring up in allergies.. and having the client say, "well my vet said such & such or recommended this particular brand of food which sponsored that same vet, or my vet said for you to dump this chemical on the dog." Arboretum has it's own scientists out there researching.. They are the vet THAT THE VETS go to for knowledge. They train their vet techs and their receptionists extremely well and you can tell that they are all one unified team. They are organized in a refreshing way. \r \r I LOVE THEM. more

Dr. SaLee is Compassionate and Thorough 5/21/2011

We had an amazing experience at Arboreteum View and with Dr. SaLee. I was apprehensive about taking our pup to Arboreteum view after seeing some of the bad reviews (although it is my experience the people who are negative are louder than the positive people). However, we had an amazing experience. The staff was so compassionate and were understanding about financial concerns. They offered solutions to work within a budget that still provided hope. Our pup is experiencing advanced liver failure. There is nothing more his primary vet can do. We went to see Dr. SaLee and she was down on her hands and knees with Dublin. Unlike some of these other reviews, she was very concerned with Dublin and he was the number one concern. She had spend the morning reviewing his records sent over from his other vet (and had also taken him despite being booked for a few weeks). We haven't gotten this turned around yet, but that falls on us, the owners to follow the instructions she gave us. She didn't make more

Dr. SaLee Lacks Competence and Confidence 1/21/2011

My rating is from my experience with Dr. SaLee, who advertises herself as a doctor of Integrative Medicine, meaning she should know how to practice both western and eastern medicine. I took my cat with Inflammatory Bowel Disease to her. SaLee put her on probiotics and digestive enzymes, which helped resolve her symptoms of chronic diarrhea. My cat also had a heart condition and Dr. SaLee was giving her some herbal supplements to balance out her system. Then she wanted to put her on Hawthorn, an herb that our cardiologist said under no circumstances, should my cat take, as it could cause great harm. Then came the time I took my cat in since her appetite was poor and she'd lost weight. Dr. SaLee assumed it was due to the heart problem. She said she wasn't comfortable doing a chest x-ray to see if there was fluid in her lungs. Any competent general vet should be comfortable doing an x-ray and reviewing it. So we saw our cardiologist who x-rayed and found the lungs were clear and we t more

Excellent Care 12/20/2010

I have been taking my dog and cat to Arboretum view for almost 2 yrs since we moved here from Ohio. I just saw this page and could not believe the negative comments. \r \r First of all to address wait times. I have been here probably 5 or 6 times and have always been taken to a room within a few minutes. Appt times have been respected and I never felt hurried though an appt. \r \r Second of all to address costs. Do you expect the vets and techs to take care of your pet in a state of the art animal hospital for bargain rates? Seriously. I have been told upfront what type of tests / procedures are recommended and how much they cost. When I have told the vet (Dr Lassiter) that we were not interested in much of the tests due to the age of our cat and the economy, he was completely willing to work within our budget to try to find medication to help my cat with his IBD. Since our appt a few weeks ago he has had several phone consults with me at no charge. I do not see the "money hungry" thing pe more

Owner 10/28/2010

My opinion of Arboretum View Animal Hospital is:\r -The well-being of my dog was not their primary concern. \r -They pronounced a visibly swollen paw healed at a follow up visit. \r -They charged excessively, trying to pad the bill in every way possible. \r Also, I was not taken to an exam room until 45 minutes after my appointment time ? and then only when I notified the front desk that I had to leave within in the next 45 minutes.\r My experience: Initially Dr. Lasiter prescribed an antibiotic for my dog?s inflamed paw. He explained that a painful, expensive surgery could or should be considered ? putting adjustable pins into the bones to realign them. This to fix a swollen paw, I asked? My dog is over 10 years old and she has arthritis in the ?elbow?, but she has little trouble getting around. I told him we were not going to put her thru that, not to mention the expense. Also, I let them know I would be purchasing medicines from online (Drs. Foster & Smith), saving as more

Dr. Edinger rocks! 10/20/2010

My pup was taken care of by Dr. Edinger. He repaired a fracture on one of her front legs when she was about 5 months old (she's almost a year now). I can honestly say that she has no idea she was ever broken. She is a MANIAC running around like crazy, jumping from couch to chair to ground to couch, etc. She can hold her own with her older brother (a 65lb shep mix)....and I think she may be made of rubber. You'd never know she'd been broken aside from some slight scarring from the fixator pins. \r Dr. Edinger is awesome. He's one of the nicest vets I've ever met, and he did a great job on my girl! more

Long time happy client 9/15/2010

For over a decade I have been a happy client of Arboretum View Animal Hospital. I have done my research so I know that there is no clinic in the area that even comes close to the type of care offered here. When choosing an animal hospital, please do your research and make sure the hospital is accredited by the AAHA and in good standing. \r \r This is not just a clinic- it's a hospital with all the latest technology to save your pet if anything goes wrong in a surgery. They even have an oncology and integrative medicine department. \r \r If you are looking to cut costs, remember you get what you pay for. \r \r I sent a neighbor to this clinic the other day and they saved her dog's life! \r \r Comment: I was shocked with all the bad reviews I've seen because I have had so many great experiences here. \r \r Please keep in mind that the economy has taken it's toll on many good businesses that have established a good reputation, like AVAH. Many doctors and dentists have cut their hours and their s more

Money Factory 9/1/2010

The practice of over-charging and stressing unneeded overnight visits seems to be a common thread here. I brought my dog here at 2:00 in the morning because he was showing symptoms of bloat. They took him in and later told me his stomach was filled with air and they had put a tube down his throat to relieve the pressure because they couldn't make him burp. They recommended he be held overnight for "observation" to the tune of $1200. Really? $1200 for gas? I told them I would stay up with him; the bill ended up being $500 as it was. While I appreciate they were kind to him, I would have appreciated more if they had just told me he needed Gas-X and let it go at that. more

Bad bad bad 8/20/2010

Took my cat here for a UTI infection. Having had a number of cats over the years, I know what needs to be done with a serious UTI problem. This place, instead of testing his urine and putting him on antibiotics right away, wanted to start him out on an anti-inflammatory instead, told me they could not promise me anything, did not offer to test his urine for crystals but wanted to keep him overnight for observation, all for the starting cost of approximately $1,000. The costs could be higher in the end I was told if catherization was required and the cat needed to be sedated. My daughter was with me and we just looked at each other with incredulous eyes. Nothing made sense.\r \r I told the DVM I wasn't born yesterday, that I have other cats and have had plenty of experience with feline UTI problems in the past and just give me an antibiotic; I will start my cat on that immediately and take him to my regular vet in the morning (which I did.) The doctor argued with me about the anti-inf more

Review by longtime customer 7/29/2010

I have been a customer of Arboretum View Animal Hospital (AVAH) for many years and used them for 3 dogs. I was a customer long before it was sold to the current owner (BrightHeart).\r If you want top notch care for your dog/need a specialist, I can highly recommend them but you will also pay top dollar which is to be expected. \r Dr. Lassiter who is the original owner still works at AVAH and he is fabulous and worth every penny.\r \r But, due to the economy and the unwillingness of the new business manager to work with us on price or discounts, we have switched to using VCA and recently had surgery for our dog in Aurora which saved us more than $600 on the low end of the estimated $4000 price which AVAH gave us.\r We really liked AVAH but the prices are just too high for us under the new ownership. My only other complaint would be that when you make an appointment for an alloted time, AVAH rarely takes you at your alloted time and you sit and wait, not dissimilar to going to a see a regul more

So Worth It- Amazing Care 5/21/2010

Every situation is different for every patient, every animal. I read all these reviews. I guess no one and no place is ever going to be perfect. I mean, it just is not so in life. Let's be real. I am a HUGE fan of AVAH. Huge. \r I am a "mommy" to a gorgeous 3 year old Chocolate Lab, Mocha. I have unfortunately had so many problems with Mocha, since she was a puppy. (tell you all what you should do, avoid the stupid puppy mill pet stores! ). She's had 4 surgeries. FOUR! All of them at this hospital. \r The last one, was major and almost took her life. And quite frankly, we know we are on borrowed time with Mocha. I can't say enough good things about the staff and the doctors at AVAH. I can't. And believe me, people mock me as it relates to how I love my dog so much. I'm very picky. \r The personalized care, the attention, and the love they have shown Mocha.. I wouldn't want to take her anywhere else. She is "home" there. They are always willing to take my phone calls and they "get" that w more

Don't Go! 4/26/2010

THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY! DON'T GO!! We brought our dog in who was already on medication for fluid in his left lung and was having trouble breathing in the middle of the night. Our regular vet is not open 24 hours so we took him to AVAH. They took an x-ray which showed the same fluid that our regular vet saw. They recommended keeping him over night in an oxygen cage and they would perform a bronchoscopy in the morning to determine the bacteria/fungus in his lung for treatment. That didn't happen. His x-ray was sent to radiology for review which was an additional cost that was not discussed or agreed to before hand. We were then told they highly recommended doing an echocardiogram to determine if his heart was strong enough to perform the bronchoscopy even though the internist didn't hear any heart murmur and didn't feel his heart was failing. They also recommended an Ultrasound, CT scan, and fluid extraction by placing a needle into his lung. We already paid $1300 for the initi more

BEST PLACE FOR CARE 4/20/2010

we brought are dog bruno here and all i can say is wow, we brought him there after emergency animal hospital of mokena removed his spleen and said he was ok, we brought him to are vet who said he was critical and needed to go here asap. they found out what was wrong with him in about 15 min and and told us the care he needed. they where very passionate about him . we brought him home aftre 3 days there for hospice and the attending vet cried when we told him we where gonna bring him home. i called there several times with updates and evry time they where nice to me. i will always bring my animals here from now on! RIP BRUNO I LOVE YOU BUDDY more

Avoid Arboretum View Animal Hospital 2/22/2010

I really hate to slam any facility whose main function is to help animals, but I must state my experience in the case of Arboretum View. I hope everyone will look around a bit before deciding to go there. \r \r In my cat's case it was an emergency. I called several places but Arboretum View was the only one willing/or able to see me. In fact, the other facilities that were not able to help me told me to go there which is why I did. I regret it that I did. \r \r On the phone, Arboretum View staff didn't tell me there would be a wait before they'd see my cat. When I walked in I was shocked at the revolving door scene. It was 'standing room only'. People were everywhere holding their pets with varying degrees of urgency. The looks on their faces told me they'd been waiting in agony for some time. I joined the ranks & 'waited in the wings' with my cat & her emergency after the receptionist told me to have a seat. \r \r I watched a man who had been leaning against the wall waiting. He was holding more

Arboretum View Animal Hospital is HOBBIBLE 7/13/2009

Horrible experience. My dog was vomiting brought him here and spent $1900 for my dog to be babysat. Had the IM and staff lie to us and mask a problem. Was told my dog stopped vomiting only to find out they were giving him Zofran and was told he didn't have cancer only to find out he was never tested. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL THERE. more

Kind, compassionate, caring, WONDERFUL people 4/20/2009

I brought my dog here yesterday to be euthanized, and everyone was so kind and helpful. A tech spoke to me first and said she would have the doctor come and speak to me and give her assessment and offer options if there were any. The doctor came and talked to me, explained everything, and made going through this horrible situation so much easier. I can't speak highly enough of the people at Arboretum View. more

Bone Cancer Treatment - Osteosarcoma 2/6/2009

Dr. DaCosta Gomez did a fabulous job on bone cancer surgery. We consulted with the vet oncologist, Amy Weidemann, at Arboretum Animal Hospital after a bone biopsy confirmed Osteosarcoma Bone cancer in the front leg of our Collie mix who is 8 years old. This is a wonderful place that provides outstanding care and we decided to follow the surgery with four does of chemo. Our dog is like a puppy again, pain-free and no spread of the cancer. The services provided were well worth the price. more
