Tranquility Salon & Day Spa

Although I enjoy the ambience of Tranquility, I go for one important reason, and that is to get an outstanding massage from Mary Jane. I have had numerous deep tissue massage for the last 18 years from many different massage therapists, and Mary Jane is absolutely, without question, one of the the best. She is a professional that gives 100% each and every time. I have received no less than 15 massages from her and have never been disappointed. I eagerly refer Mary Jane to others as well as gifting others with her service. I will continue going to Tranquility as long as Mary Jane is there. I elect the option of paying in advance for my service, so that I can leave the premises directly from my relaxing massage. However, I recently learned that if I don't go to the front desk to check out, Mary Jane may not get paid, which would be a shame as she is the only reason I am there. This policy needs to change. If I have paid in advance, and checked IN, that should be enough. One of the reasons I go to a spa for a massage is to RELAX. Having to deal with the front desk at the end of my massage often negates that, as they are not very professional, often confused and disconnected and the lobby is usually noisy, distractive and everything but relaxing. I've came to Tranquility several times, it has a great atmosphere and friendly staff. They make you feel relaxed and at ease. My whole life I've had back problems but since I've been going to Mary Jane for massages, she has helped me tremendously. I've recommend her to all of my friends and family, and they are always satisfied. more

I've been living in Winston Salem for 6 years now, and tried going to several spas, but none of them compared to Tranquility. Everyone is very attentive and tend to all my needs. I love the atmosphere and staff is very friendly. If I want to unwind and relieve stress I always come to Mary Jane McDermott for a massage. She works wonders. I've been to several estheticians, and have enjoyed my facials. I recommend this to anyone that wants to escape from everyday life. more

My daughter gave me a gift card for a massage for Mother's Day. My massage therapist name was Mary Jane McDermott. She made my neck and back feel wonderful and I have had neck pain for years. I had neck surgery years ago, so it's definitely part of my life therapy to receive regular massages. Mary Jane works wonders with her hands and she has a warm heart as well. I just think she is a beautiful person who delights in serving others and her passion is revealed in the treatment of her patients - I love her and look forward to my therapy treatments every time!! more

I have been coming to Tranquility Spa since it opened and it is defintely one of the best atmospheres in all of the day spas in Winston-Salem. The decor is beautiful and I have had excellent customer service at the front desk. It is a very busy spa and can get hectic during busy times. Anytime I have had to wait I always have received an apology and other staff members have checked on me. Courtney at the front desk booked my appointment easily on the phone and greated me promptly upon my arrival and the check out was efficient. Mary Jane did my massage and she is amazing. She is the reason I come here. She always takes time to ask where I am hurting or if I have any special areas that need work and she always gives me the full hour massage. Sometimes at other spas I have had massages less than the designated time. She truly makes you relax and always uses the right amount of pressure. I highly recommend Mary Jane and Tranquility and will definitely be going back soon. I had a one hour massage yesterday with Mary Jane. She was 15 minutes late and did not apologize for her tardiness, however, she was very friendly and attentive. She didn't cheat me on my time on the massage and the massage was PHENOMENAL. It was so good, that I immediately purchased and booked 1 hour with her for my husband! I used a gift certificate and the customer service rep at the front was relunctant to transfer the remaining balance because she really didn't know how to do it. Someone more knowledgeable came over and showed her how to do it. Mary Jane informed me of the reviews that you could do here and I agreed to do the survey. The slip of paper just tells you to go to citysearch with no instruction of what to do so I called back to Tranquility. The young lady who answered the phone quickly said "she had no idea about this". When I asked if she could let me speak to someone who knew, she placed me on hold, then came back to the phone and said they didn't have any coupons on this website. I told her I didn't ask for a coupon. I again explained that I was giving this website to do a review. Someone in the background proceeded to tell me FROM ACROSS the ROOM, how to do this and the young lady repeated most of it! For a Spa of this caliber, I would expect more professionalism from the people who are the face of this company. In spite of this, I would still go back because Mary Jane gave me one of the best massages I've ever had and I've had several. If you need a really great pedicure, you have to go see Leah at Tranquility. I have not let another nail technician touch my feet since I met her. It is always a relaxing experience with her. She is friendly and very professional. My pedicures always last a very long time, and stay looking great! So go see Leah and your feet will always look and feel great. more

I go to this salon on a regular basis because of ONE employee. Ask for Leah--she gives the BEST pedicures in the Triad. She?s sweet, friendly and always goes above and beyond. Her paint job is phenomenal and she can do perfect a perfect french polish on your toes. I have had experiences trying other technicians but will never do that again?make sure to ask for her and you will be glad you did! more

Before moving to Winston-Salem, I was in Chicago for 5 years I had devil of a time finding a colorist and stylist I liked. (Not like you can find a person who does both cut and color in the first place in Chicago, but that's another story.) I changed salons and stylists with every cut and color. But as soon as I moved here, I found Wayne at Tranquility and have been ecstatic with every cut and color he has given me for the last 3 years. I regularly have people ask to take a picture of my hair so they can show their own stylist what they want. (I travel a lot, so when it is someone here in Winston-Salem I send them Wayne's way, but when I am out of town obviously that's not possible.) I'll admit that service at the front desk had seemed to deteriorate over the past couple years, but the last few times I have been it seems like they have gotten some new people who are on the ball. That, and it really is the most beautiful salon and spa in the area. I have gotten a few other treatments (facial, massage, mani/pedi) on occasion in the past and have always thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I had an overwhelmingly positive experience at Tranquility. Margurite gave me a wonderful and relaxing facial. She is delightful. My manicure and pedicure were excellent . Jennifer did a great job. The reception staff were gracious and patient enough to work me in for these services on short notice . I returned about two weeks after these services to have Wayne rehab my hair. I took a chance and left it to him to decide what we needed to do in terms of cut and color. I am completely thrilled with my new hair and the compliments just keep coming. I had been going to Tranquility for the last several years because I liked how Erica cut and styled my hair and my daughter's. I always thought the front desk service was lousy but I was willing to put up with it for a good cut. Back in Nov. I called for an appt and was abruptly told that Erica did not work there anymore. There was no offer to find another stylist in the salon or any other form of customer service. The attitude was "too bad". I would never recommend Tranquility to anyone. It use to have good stylists but they are leaving. I was fortunate to find Erica at Hair, Body and Soul salon across the street from Tranquility. Given the current economic conditions, I would think that Tranquility would be more concerned with customer service, since the customer ultimately decides on where to spend their money. more

I came home for Easter and after reading the previous review, I thought, heck yeah. I'll go back there (hadn't been there in since Dec.). Evidently, if I had been a co. big wheel with a corp. credit card and 10 employees to take care of, I guess they would've rolled out the red carpet (wine & fruit platters) for me too. My appointment was .45 mins. later than what I was told & asked for! My hair dresser thought a TRIM meant 3" & annoying, loud music blaired . I checked out with no idea I was being charged $45.00 for a "trim" & the conditioner left in my hair made it look oily . Now, I understand better why reputable people refuse to work there anymore. My hair person told me the place was a big high class mess and that's why there were so many empty chairs . I was stunned at the whole situation. I feel very compelled to share my experience from yesterday 3/12/08 at Tranquility Spa in Winston-Salem. I have been to this spa 3 times in the past 2 years. I am V.P. of an outdoor advertising company from New York and come down twice a year to take my clients out for a "spa day". My experience has always been good, however, with the recent negative comments on this website we really weren't sure that we wanted to visit the spa again. After calling many other spas in the area we decided to give it another try. I headed over 1 hour prior to the arrival of my group of 10 people I had scheduled. Imagine my surprise when I was told that they didn't have any appointments booked. I HAD MISTAKENLY BOOKED THE SERVICE AT A SPA BY THE SAME NAME 2 HOURS AWAY! I panicked as the realization set in that I had planned this entire event and my clients were on the way to a spa day that wasn't to be. WELL....let me tell you. CYNDI THE MANAGER JUMPED THROUGH HOOPS and called in aesthecians and had massage therapists stay late, etc. THEN....the front desk manager, Brandy ordered fruit platters, cheese platters & wine and they did all this within 1 hour. When my clients arrived they didn't have a clue to the mess I had been in (the stress at this time was being massaged away by an amazing pediucre given by Adrianna Tucker). WE ALL HAD AN OUTSTANDING SPA EXPERIENCE BY STAFF THAT COULD NOT DO ENOUGH FOR US. When we went to dinner that evening and I shared with my group what had happened, they couldn't believe how smooth everything seemed. If this had happened in New York, I am very sure that the outcome would not have been the same. They handled this very difficult situation with composure and confidence and class! I received the Tranquil Escape spa package from my husband for Christmas and used it this past weekend. When I called to make the appointment, the girl who answered the phone was not familiar with the services the spa had and it was strange that I had to tell her. No big deal, "she might be a new employee," I told myself. I arrived about 15 minutes early to ensure plenty of time to get changed and relax. Well I should have been about 15 minutes late because that is when the girl showed up who was doing my massage. She said I as getting an hour massage "Not the case,? because she was running late, I was cut about 15-20 minutes from my massage and facial. Next was lunch, it was good. Finally, I was asked to get dressed so I could get my pedicure and manicure. What was wrong with staying in my robe? I soon found out I would be walking through the loud salon area to get to the nail area. This area was very dirty. I'm wondering if they had ever heard of dusting. I could not wait to leave! I have been a client at Tranquility for over 2 years & I do not understand what has happened to the place. I use to get my hair cut by a lady who realized that Tranquility is headed down a dead end so she switched salons. Although she doesn't work there anymore I continue to visit Tranquility for Facials & Massages. I have had a good experience with receiving facials now that the head esthetician has left the establishment but as far as the massages go they are down right terrible! Furthermore the young ladies that answer the phone completely lack customer service. Last time I called to make an appointment the girl repeated everything back to me more than two times in slow motion like it was a word problem or something & instead of putting me on hold to ask a question she just began talking to a gentleman in the background. Appointments never start on time anymore. As soon as I find a better esthetician in Winston I will no longer be a customer at Tranquility. It really is sad because I use to enjoy going, now I hate walking into that clutter of a lobby. I?m not trying to come across as rude in this review I just believe that people should get their moneys worth & this no longer happens at Tranquility. I have never been impressed with Tranquility's customer service and only continued going there because of the stylist Kelly Phelps and Erica Canovai that I liked. I recently discovered that they both have left there and moved on to another salon.....Hair Body & Soul (which is just down the street beside Party City). I've always loved shopping at Hair Body & Soul for shampoo, etc. (they have everything if you've never been), but somehow missed that they are also a salon, so I can't tell you how excited I am that Kelly and Erica are now working there. more

What can I say !!!! It happened again. I was told that new management had taken over and thought it would be worth another try. Boy !! was I mistaken. It's worse . The problem I had before was with my service provider and all the loud noise within the salon area. (rude and loud remarks). Now the salon is full of new and unexperenced stylest. RUDE front desk assistance and may I add, not professional at all. I really wonder if the owner of this salon is really aware of the business he has and how it is being ran.!!!! There are to many really nice spa in this area to be brothered. !!!! more

The facility is Gorgeous, but WHO REALLY CARES when you're treated disrespectfully. I'm not going to even waste my time saying HOW bad the customer service is at this place...just read all the other reviews. I read them before going, but thought I'd check it out anyway...They weren't lying! The front desk especially is impatient, rude, and could care less how long you wait. And there's SO many managers, no one seems to know what's going on AND every time I asked for one, in person and over the phone..they were mysteriously not available... When ONE (not the one I asked for) did return my call it was a week later! I'm a massage therapist myself and would not give this place my time/money (nor would I work here). There's other places in town--that are just as pretty and treat you better. Keep looking! more

My wife and I went to Tranquility because an unexpected delay in our dinner plans allowed my wife to get a manicure. Since it was on a Saturday we expected someone would be available. ONE nail person was there and she was booked with 4 or so empty tables. Then, I asked the desk person to change a $20.00 bill for me and she told me she didn't have enough money in the till! ON A SATURDAY!! My wife strolled over to the skin care case and wanted to know more about the products and probably would have bought $100.00 worth, but guess what...no one knew anything about it. Poorly educated, poorly staffed and very poorly managed. A shame a place like this has been allowed to fuction so at such a low level. No money, no staff and no help...no way will we ever be back.
