After reading all these reviews I feel MUCH better saying I'm glad Mary Jane is gone! She gave amazing massages but was always late for my appointments. My sessions were cut 15-20 minutes late everytime I came in due to her tardiness! Other than the fact that she smelled like an ashtray, she got very personal with me. Maybe a bit too personal! The salon and spa area was nice but I'm not so sure about the employees. From what my husband has told me the management has too much time on their hands and are worried about the latest gossip. Hopefully with all the "bad" employees out of there, Tranquility will be able to do some major improvement! Pros: pretty place, great prices Cons: tardiness, rude employees more

Ive been going to tranquility for quite some time now, and I dont understand what the hell you people are thinking when you hire receptionists? I mean, is it a pre-qualification to stink like a walking cigarette or do you just enjoy hiring unkempt raggidy losers who dont brush their hair? You work at a Salon for God's sake! CLEAN UP!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, after my rude greeting from a Doreen?? (maybe thats not her name, i really didn't care to find out) I was greeted by my massage therapist Katherine. She was great and professional and is the only reason I will come back to Tranquility. Seriously mangement, you should re think your hiring and do some "in house cleaning". My family treated me to a day at Tranquility as a graduation present this past December and it was a total pampering experience. Strategically, my appointment was scheduled for the last day of 2008 and I must say, it was an awesome way to end 2008 and begin 2009. The staff was incredibly attentive and I was truly treated like a queen for the entire day! Massage, Facial, Manicure, Pedicure, Lunch, Conversation, Company; it was all SUPERB! I was very unimpressed with Tranquility. First of all, the reception area was anything but tranquil. The front desk was overstaffed with disorganized personnel, trying to attend to all the entering patrons at once. The rock music in the background was much too loud and distracting. The gaudy, shabby chic furnishings were accompanied by spa service menus that were presented in notebook quality, 3-ring binders with poorly photocopied pages. Didn't management know that colored photos just don't copy well in black and white? The back rooms had a more traditional spa feel but again, even the spa music was too loud. The services provided by the technicians were adequate but not spectacular and they were the high point of the experience. Basically, Tranquility is a hair salon that added some spa services. It was definitely not the upscale spa experience that I am used to. I can't imagine returning, not even for free. Pros: Adequate Spa Service Technicans Cons: Everything Else more

When I called Tranquilities this afternoon to cancel an appointment due to a conflict that I had, I was shocked to learn that one of the leading style technicians had been clipped out of the salon. However, I am not surprised because she is a rising star in the world of fab hair. The mystique of this stylist's psychadellic scissors has styled great hair for Tranquilities for several years now. I am appalled that my appointment was on Friday and as of 7:00pm tonight, no one from the salon had even attempted to contact me and make me aware of the fact that my stylist no longer worked there. Can we say rude and inconsiderate! I would have been extremely irritated had I showed up at the salon, having driven from Pleasant Garden (close to Burlington), only to be told that Pamela Rhyne no longer worked there. I can imagine that I would have been asked to if I would like to see another stylist. Are you kidding, that's like asking me if I would like to have a bike or a Rolls Royce to drive around town. However, there is something to be said for Pamela leaving. I am sure this means, I will no longer have to deal with the rude receptionists (except for Courtney - what a nice young lady who knows how to speak to the clientele in a professional manner). More importantly, Pamela will continue her path to be America's Next Top Stylist! Way to "rocket" out of there - I'm proud of you! more

I recently moved back to Winston-Salem after a couple years away with a new job which changed my lifestyle dramatically. Being a part of an executive staff exposes you to a higher quality of services and expectations make you appreciate quality a lot more when they are exceeded. My eperience at Tranquility Salon and Day Spa was staggering. Cornelius Payne eximplified excellence in every way. He implimented genuine client care and a passion for the work in which he was doing. I always arrive at least 5 min prior to expected and he properly greeted me with a formal introduction of who he was and a desrciption of the service I was scheduled to recieve. I recieved a shampoo, trim and style and it was invigorating. The techniques he used while shampooing me were imaculate. Cornelius Payne is far most the best stylist ever and I recommend him to everone. I appreciate the quality service he renders. Pros: Great atmosphere and quality service Cons: N/A more

I had my first baby about a month ago, and have been feeling tired and achy. My husband surprised me with a gift card to Tranquility so I could have some time to relax, so I scheduled a massage. My massage therapist, Kavan, was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable, even though it was the first massage I had ever The massage experience was wonderful! I felt so relaxed afterwards and my body was free from aches and pains. I will definitely be coming back to get another massage from Kavan Pros: Staff was very friendly, massage therapist was very personable. more

I am a runner and just moved back to the area from New York where I would receive massages every few weeks . I've been having extreme leg cramps/back aches that create issues throughout the day and night. I made an appt. with the spa for a massage with one of their male massage therapist, Kavan. He was punctual and did an amazing job of releasing my muscle tension through my legs and back. I now try and get an appt. every other week with him. I can really tell a difference in my pain and this seems to have improved my running. My pain has now diminished. Additionally, he seems knowledgeable about neuromuscular massage, added bonus. more

Adrianna does my pedicures on a regular basis and as always they're the best, she doesnt rush through the massage like most people. I thought I would treat myself and get a facial thispast weekend also b/c I've been under tons of stress. It wass amazing I left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I have been visiting Tranqulity Spa for over 10 years. You could go to any service provider and have a great experience. It is now a different story. I don't know why some of the best people left??? I also don't know who is in charge of hiring the rude trailer trash (reaking of smoke and covered in tatoos)?!?!?!?!?!?!? That is not who I want giving me a $45 pedicure, and a bikini wax. How by the way only talk about there boyfriends, tattos, noserings, and ex-husbands. Management - I know you are out there. Your regular clients would rather wait for an appointment with a profesional person, then get an appointment at anytime with someone that should be working in Elikn, or some trailer Beauty shop!!! I have friends that have not come back to this Spa because of the service provider, and RUDE and UNCARING front desk. I have had beter treatment by teenage retail workers at the mall.Why is it that when you book an approinment for a manicure and pedicure - you don't recieve a comformation call, and when you get there you are only on the schudel for a manicure. (this happened to one of my good friends several times, and she will not return to Tranqulity). I on the other hand will return because I love my facial from ADRIANA, my pedicures form JENNIFER, my massages from CATHERINE!!!!!, and my threading from KAVITIA. Hey management all I can tell you is - if you want to have a great Spa - get a great staff. This is why I have friends that will not return. Stay small and great, not large and crapy. A friend of mine gave me a Tranquility gift card for my birthday so I was very eager to use it. My gift card was for a 60 minute massage, Pedicure, and European Facial. I took a day off of work just to use it ; hoping for a day of relaxation. When I called to book an appointment for Friday all was well until she rudely asked me for a credit card number to book an appointment. I explained that I was not comfortable giving out that info and asked to speak to manager. However there was not a manager there to talk to and she sent me to Cindy's voicemail but the voicemail said it was Brandy's. Either way I never got a call back from any management. I went to the appointment as scheduled the front desk was awful. There was only 1 receptionist with a line of 4. Her name was Jay / Jane, she was very polite and helpful, but you could tell she was a little overwhelmed by the line. Then another receptionist came to help who walked me down to fill out paper work. She smelled like a human cigarette. The massage was by some weird looking guy Kevin; very uncomfortable. My facial was by Margerite which was ok but not very impressive. The pedicure was by Donna. Donna gives great pedicures but very rude and chatty. I asked to see a manger on my way out and was greeted by a sloppy looking lady with foils in her hair and introduced herself a the assistant manager. AWFUL. Im glad this visit was a gift and I didn't spend my hard earned money for it. AWFUL EXPERIENCE!!! Pros: Nice looking place Cons: Poor management, below average service providers more

The salon looks like it could be or once was a gorgeous place to go. It is cold and unwelcoming. I recently went to the salon for a haircut and pedicure. The person who did my pedicure smelled like cigarettes had a horrible smokers cough that contiuned throughout my service and talked non stop while all I wanted to do was relax and read my magazine. Oh and don't ask for red polish because it will end up all over your skin. My haircut was ok, but I could tell the stylist was not completely sure what she was doing. I will look for a new place to go. more

I came in a few weeks ago to get a facial and when I came in the salon it was beautiful. When I got to the front desk they weren't rude but they weren't going out of there way to be nice either. They didn't offer me anything to drink or even show me where to sit so I really wasn't expecting that much from my aesthetician who was going to give me a facial, honestly I was really just ready to get the facial over with and get out. I know you are probably wondering why I gave this spa a 5 star rating and honestly I'm not I give Adrianna a 5 star rating. I travel alot with my job and I have had facials in New York, California, Washington and etc and I can honestly say that no one can even come close to her facials. When she came out she greeted me with a smile, shook my hand, introduced herself and then asked me if I would like something to drink. When she took me back to her room she explained everything to me so that there wasn't any confusion. When she came back in we talked a few minutes about my concerns and then she cleansed my face and took a look at it under a UV light. She talked to me about my skin and her concerns along with mine, she explained the difference between the european facial and the collagen facial which she recommended and there price difference so there would be no suprizes. She recommended a great homecare system and expained all the products, ingredients and how to use them. I use them to this day and my skin never has looked and felt better. During my facial she massaged my neck, shoulders, face and even my hands and arms when I was masking. I was so embarassed when I woke myself up snorning. It was the best facial I have ever had and I will deal with the rest just to see her because I have never been able to fully relax until I met her. I have told everyone I know about her! Wayne Tuggle has a magical touch in cutting and styling hair. I would never have anyone else cut my hair. His assistants are the best - from shampooing to styling. Winston-Salem is very fortunate to have Wayne and his team. Pros: Tranquility stylist are wonderful more

I just moved in town from Miami and heard great thing about Tranquility from the girls in my neighborhood. They told me to ask for Wayne and said he would do a great job and also had the best customer service. I just went today and cut 6 inches off my hair, I was scared but he was so assuring that i would look "HOT", after 15 minutes with him and 10 with his asst. Jenn and Jess "I looked hot". Ive never had anyone make me feel so beautiful. I will recommend him and the salon to every new person i meet.. Great Service!!! I received a wonderful manicure and pedicure from Jennifer Hurst last weekend. This was my first trip to Tranqulity, and I booked my next appointment before I left. She was on time, very professional, dressed very well, well organized and clean,and let me just sit and relax and enjoy my service. The receptoinist told me she was one of 2 nail techs that have been there for over 5 years... it shows! Also she WORKS NIGHTS TILL 8pm, for us working ladies, this is perfect. My sister gave me a gift certificate, I had never been to this Spa ( I'm new to town), so when I called to book, I had to trust that I was being booked with someone great... Well I was. Jennifer was great! She gave a service, that was missing nothing. I don't like hearing to much of my providers business - I didn't get that at all with Jennifer. I don't know about you, but I go to the Spa to relax, not to be stressed out by other peoples drama. From what I understand there are a few new people that work there - that just talk to much!! ( so says my sister). Also FYI, Jennifer works nights and weekends. I asked because I want to come in with my new Roomates when I start Wake in the Fall. She told me if I needed to come in during the day to see Leah. When I checked out - Courtney helped me, and let me know that I could come in with as many as 6 girlfriends for Manicures, and pedicures. THATS IS GREAT !!!!!!!!!!! Where eles can you do that. We are new to town and I am always picky about where I get my hair done, how much I spend, customer service, location, etc. etc. So I decided to try this place out as the location is good and I had heard it was a great place. It might be for a spa treatment of some sort but when I walked out feeling a bit disappointed. Not to mention a bit shocked that I spent $50 on a cut. I have never spent that much on a cut before. I sat down at 4 pm and was done in 25 minutes...consulation, shampoo, cut, and style. I have gotten great compliments on the style (short..chin length..longer in the front and short in the back) but I felt it was rushed. Not to mention when I was having my hair dried the stylist was burning my scalp and then when the straight iron was being used, my hair felt like it was getting pulled out. I like to have that nice spa feeling and the feeling of being relaxed and I didn't get that with my first experience here. Pros: Location Cons: Expensive, felt rushed more

Tranquility on Stratford- My wife gave me a massage gift certificate for my birthday a couple of years ago, & I was instantly hooked. By luck of the draw, I got Mary Jane McDermott for my massage. She is fantastic- I always feel great after the massage no matter how bad my day was or how bad my back felt beforehand. I have tried other places on vacation or on business trips, but they always pale in comparison to Mary Jane. Tranquility is as the name implies is a very relaxed & beautiful setting as well. I look forward to each session & I highly recommend the experience. more
