Above and Beyond Customer Service! 1/3/2012

All I really have to say is AMAZING SERVICE! You guys had me completely drawn in from the valet service, to the seating, and than to my dining experience. A friend and I decided to make reservations during Thanksgiving since we both were not spending it with our families. \r \r Our waiter was wonderful. You can tell he was new but he worked his butt off to impress us and make us feel like we were the only people dining in the resturant. We decided to each get a different platter. She did the Thanksgiving thing and got the Turkey which was moist and delicious! The Gravy was fantastic and just yummy! I got the beef tenderloin. and...OMG! There was a VIP secret party going on in my mouth with my taste buds with each bite. Everything was on point. Moist food and completely cooked! The Lobster soup was devine! Flavors were not over powering.\r \r There were several wait staff walking around the resturant refilling our glasses and making sure everything was alright. It made the place seem less stressful and gave our waiter better availability for us. One of the Managers, Crimson came by for a short conversation and to make sure everything was to par. It was fanastic. \r \r Just the service experience itself is worth coming back. If I had to place a con, it would be that is it on the pricer side. But the quality of the food and service makes it worth it! \r more

Bad Service+Average Food+High Price=Disappointed Customer 2/16/2011

For the price, I can't think of a place that I would recommend less. This was my first time going and I wanted to be impressed.... 3 Forks fell way below my expectations. more

Dissappointed with IIIForks 2/15/2011

I just wanted to provide some feedback from my recent experience at IIIForks. I had the opportunity to dine at IIIForks for the first time this Saturday February 12, 2011. I was part of a large party 15 couples (30 people) with a reservation for 8:30 pm. The reservation were made 1 month in advance. There were many issues that arouse throughout the night. \r \r First one of the members of my party had an accident and spilled a glass of wine. I consider III Forks to be a 5 star restaurant, however at this 5 star restaurant instead of the wait staff replacing the linen they covered the spill with napkins and placed another table cloth on top of the napkins and the spill area and left us to eat in the mess. \r \r Second when the bread was delivered to our table the outside of the bread was crisp however the inside of the loaves at the large table were all frozen. Never, did we receive an apology for the frozen loaves. When I inquired with the server about the frozen loaves, she simply stated, I’ll get you more, removing all the loaves from the table (about 5-6 loaves). She did replace the loaves however, I just expected more since we were at an establishment which I would consider “fine dining”. \r \r Third from the time that we were seated to the time that our food was delivered, it took \r 1½ hours. (Seated at 8:30 food delivered at 10:02pm) Our server indicated that the menu was condensed since it was Valentines Day weekend. With this in mind you would have thought that the menu was less complicated making our food delivery quicker. Our group was on a schedule as we had arranged for transportation by limo to and from our home, therefore we ordered our meal within 15 min of being seated. Since our food arrived at 10:02 and we had scheduled transportation we had to leave by 10:30 pm. We requested our check immediately after delivery of our food, leaving very little time to enjoy our meals.\r \r My last complaint would be that after delivery of the food no one checked to see how everything was at our tables. I ordered a 12 oz filet mignon cooked medium. I received a medium-well cooked steak. My seated neighbor to the left of me received my medium cooked steak. I had to call a server over to notify then of the mix-up. My steak was replaced, however because of our time constraints I was not able to enjoy my steak at all. \r \r I do understand that we were a large group and because of our large group, delays can be expected however, we made reservations for 30 and with that in mind the kitchen should have been prepared to handle a large group. At no time considering all of the issues that we had did a manger come out to speak to our tables. Each of the couples spent on average $125.00. At 15 couples that is approximately $1875.00 that my group spent at IIIForks. Overall the experience was terrible and I believe that sentiment was felt by all of the couples in my party that dined at IIForks that evening. I sent an email to IIIForks to advise of our experience their response back essentially was they were sorry come back again and they would do better next time. I would not dare return to receive the same terrible service at my expense. No thank you!\r more

III Forks, austin 2/15/2011

We used to frequent this restaurant often (esp when Curtis was still there)...we met some friends this past Saturday and were shocked at how ""downhill"" the food and service has gone. It took extra long to get a drink at the bar, then when they were going to seat us (reservations had been made for over 4 days), he starts to put us in a booth by the bar. We all said no and he obviously irritated said well it IS going to be another booth though. Waitress was incompetent...we had to flag her down for more drinks all nite, they were out of a very common wine we ordered, salads came--no salt and pepper offered, we had to ask for bread, don't know if they changed vendors for their meats but they are NOT the quality they were when they first opened up thru a year ago. Totally disappointing-won't return--we'll do Perry's or Flemings or Ruth Chris.....which ALL outshine this place. There's an overall attitude of we don't really care if you dine here or if you have a good experience. more

unsatisfactory service and food 8/8/2010

I feel compelled to write this review after a horrible experience at the Three Forks restaurant in July when my family celebrated my daughter's 22nd birthday. The evening was less than satisfactory. First, when we first ordered drinks, I found that my Spicy Bloody Mary was bland, at best. I had asked the waiter if there was some way they could spice up the drink a bit. To my surprise, when he returned my drink, it indeed was the same drink to which some horseradish had been added (While it has not occurred often, any other time in my life that I have returned an unsatisfactory drink, the bartender has made a new one). The salads and soup arrived without a glitch, but bread was never brought to the table (which is typical at the Three Forks Restaurant every other time we have gone there). Then came the main course. I ordered a medium rare filet. When my steak arrived, it was medium well done. I asked the waiter if there was some way he could fix the problem, and he promptly went to th ekitched to reorder my steak, then returned to remove the overcooked steak from my plate. Sometime, later, another waiter returned to remove my plate and served me a new steak. He asked me to cut into the center of the steak to check it. To my surprise, the second steak was no better than the first! I stated that it was not medium rare. He simply stood there staring at me, and finally asked if I wanted him to take it back...By this point, everyone else had finished their meals, so I told him not to bother. Everyone seated at the table expressed amazement that the waiter, upon seeing that the steak was still overcook, had not immediately removed the plate rather than standing there staring at me as if it was my fault that the steak was not cooked properly. Later in the meal, we ordered dessert. I had specifically asked the waiter at that time if there was a way he could put a candle on top of my daugther's dessert as we were celebrating her birthday. He assured me he would. When he returned with the desserts, he proceeded to place my guests bread pudding in front of me, and gave my dessert to my guest. We switched plates ourselves. As for the birthday candle- we never received one! I can assure you that whether we have eaten at a fine dining restaurant like Eddie V's or Ruth's Chris, or a more economical restaurant like Macaroni Grille, the restaurants have always gone out of their way to acknowledge a birthday. So, in summary: from start to finish the meal was a disappointment: no bread until I asked for it, a bland Bloody Mary, an overcooked steak that was still overcooked on the second try and wait staff who couldn't keep orders straight or provide service when food and drink were improperly prepared, and finally failing to remember to bring a birthday candle...not what I expected from a ""fine dining"" establishment. WHAT IS WORSE- I wrote a letter to Curtis Osmand, the Branch Manager at the Three Forks, to inform him of our less than satisfactory experience. I just received a letter from Danny Payne, the Proprietor, basically telling me that people usually don't complain about their experience at the Three Forks and thus, he is sorry...No gift card, no extended apology.... The rhetoric of this letter makes it seem as though it is somehow our fault that our experience was not up to par because no one else complains about this restaurant. We used to come to the Three Forks all the time- NOT ANYMORE. more

Wonderful Steak and Crabcakes 7/18/2010

Comfortable surroundings, live music heard from the bar, excellent service. We started off with a large plate of fun onion rings and an order of beef croustades-great. The house salad was enjoyed but I ordered the wedge-loved the blue cheese. We enjoyed great steaks and the crab cake was the best I have had in a long time. Our party ordered filets, Oscar-crab topped and veal. The meals were served with potatoes and sugar snapped peas-yum and we ordered a fabulous blue cheese and garlic sauce that is to die for that topped our steaks. They took a complimentary photo of our family and printed it out for us. We were celebrating 2 birthdays and a surprise round of complimentary after dinner drinks appeared. Had a fabulous ice cream sandwich dessert with port wine soaked cherries. Other desserts enjoyed were a mandarin orange cake and chocolate cake. It was a wonderful evening. The staff was so nice, warm and accommodating. I would return to celebrate another event and highly recommend this restaurant to all. Ask for Megan as your server. She is wonderful. Pros: great service-food, blue cheese garlic crown! Cons: pricey (but worth it) more

Best Bone-In Filet Ever! 7/7/2010

Most delicious, tender, seasoned filet I've ever had in Austin. I've eaten them all too. That said, for the price of the bone-in filet, I want perfect service. This is hit or miss. The first 3-4 times I went with my wife it was super. I took business clients the next 2-3 times (dropped over $1,000 all three times) and it was just good. The last time we went I took my brother and sis-in-law and my wife. Service was terrible. Got sat in the bar after I specifically requested no bar area in the reservation I made. Server forgot my salad and didn't, I repeat, didn't ask for a temp on my steak! I ended up having to chase her down in the main dining area and remind her no temp was asked. Overall, have had good experiences at III Forks though. Pros: filet, wine list, bartenders Cons: hit or miss service, pricey more

Austin's Best Steak House 5/30/2010

III Forks is the best steak restaurant in Austin, TX. You get great food, great service & special attention from the everyone including the manager. We had the prime filet and lobster paired with a Cakebread Napa Cab. The III Forks salad was fabulous made with a chilled fresh green leaf lettuce topped with blue cheese crumbles, special dressing & sugar coated pecans. The filet was so tender you could cut it with a plate and the lobster was prepared to perfection. Sides of fresh sliced tomatoes, green onions & creamed corn tasted like they were right out of the garden. Can't say enough about our attentive waiter and the manager's visits to our table. They've been trained well to serve the customer. A fantastic wine list of variety and many vintages is available. We topped the entrée off with a delicious mango sorbet, hot espresso and a glass of Far Niente Dolce. The dining experience is well worth the price. We gave it a +10 for both food & service. Pros: Prime Filet, wine selection Cons: Parking, price more

biggest disappointment of the trip 4/20/2010

Our experience at the Three Forks in Austin left a lot to be desired. Visiting Austin, we went to the Three Forks for our 1st Anniversary hearing they had live Jazz that night. We had a reservation and upon arrival asked for a nice table to hear the Jazz. We were stuck back in a little closet of a room with no atmosphere. When we asked to move to a particular table by where the Jazz was playing, the hostess ignored us and reluctantly tried to move us to a table in the main room as far away as possible (opposite of where we wanted to sit). Finally we said we want this particular empty table so she moaned and reluctantly moved us there. The food was not great. Actually my wife did not like the duck...it seemed raw and the sauce was too sweet. For the price I would say it was highly over rated. We received no recognition that it was our Anniversary other than the waitress wishing us a happy one. She did come by and take our picture at the end, but never came back to the table to give us a copy. It was not special at all. \r \r The Valet parking completely ruined any chance of a good evening. While pouring down rain, I went to get the car at the valet station. They asked me to recheck my pockets to see if I had the keys since they could not find them. I explained to them that the last time I saw them was when they drove off in my car. My wife went back inside and the hostess saw her and gave her the picture. When the valet discovered they gave me the wrong number, they finally found the keys. After all that, while being at night time and raining, the driver came up with the lights off and talking on his cell phone. This was not in their private parking lot, but rather on one of the busiest street in Austin. I complained to the head Valet who basically blew me off. But do not worry, he still charged me for it . \r \r \r I would recommend skipping this restaurant and going someplace with some atmosphere, good food and cares and its customers. \r Cons: Valet was the worse, food was fair at best and over priced, more

Lamb Chops descended from heaven 7/24/2008

I have been wanting to try this place forever and the opportunity finally came up when a frequent dinner companion announced he wanted steak. The atmosphere was nice, Spanish marble clad floors, rich woods, dim lighting and spacious booths. The menu was compact but full of words like: scallops, wedge salad, Chilean Sea Bass, Veal Chop and Lamb Chops...all my favorite things. Service was attentive, but not too much. Drinks came quickly and mixed well. Specials were described well and not read. The wine list, albeit pricy, read like a novel and something for everyone.\r \r Everything was perfect until some caterwauling ""person"" begin performing at the piano in the bar across the partition. Not everyone is into lounge acts and most resturants are separated to where you can choose if you want the ""club"" atmosphere or a nice quiet dinner with friends. I tried not to let it ruin my evening.\r \r I ordered the lamb very rare. It arrived perfectly with mashed potatoes and snap peas. Onions, tomatoes and cream corn were served table side and were delicious. The wedge salad was microscopic, but incredibily flavorful. \r \r At $125 a person I am not sure I will hurry back, but if you want to drop that kind of dough, check it out. Pros: Prompt service and good food Cons: Piano bars do not belong in dining rooms more

I don't know, we didn't like it 5/21/2008

We took friends here to celebrate their marriage. They very much enjoyed it but I have to say the wife and I did not. At all. \r The steak tar tar was good as was the wine list. Service was good, not great. At $500 for 4 people (2 bottles of wine) I expect fantastic. \r The main meal...well we decided to try their red wine reduction sauce on the steaks and lets just say I did my best to scrape it off and have no one notice. I could barely eat my beef, I just hated it. My wife thought it was ok, but didn't dig it like our friends. Who by the way are the kind of folks who like things that are expensive more than because they are good.\r Not for me, won't go here again. May be you'll like it more but I can cook a better steak in my own home. more

why was I excited to eat here?? 4/29/2008

Odered the Sea Bass and it came out way under cooked......a manager stopped by the table to check on our food as our waitress hadnt. I told him I thought it was too raw and he said ""since it gets flown in everyday it wont hurt you"". I appreciate being able to go into a restaurant and not get sick but what about cooking the way I like it? The fish although not eaten was still on the tab when we got it.....\r The salads werent any good either. \r They do well with their bread and creamed corn but that is about it! more

The epitome of Exemplary Service 3/29/2008

III Forks was recommended to me by a friend in Dallas and I decided to make it the venue of a special occasion between me and a couple of good friends. I was left extremely satisfied with everything III Forks had to offer. The amience was elegant, accented by dim lights and dark woods. The posh interior was offset by the friendly, unpretentious staff. The service was exceptional. We were sat immediately, even with an incomplete party. Our server waited on us hand-and-foot. We were never left wanting. The support staff (hostess/busboys) did their jobs very well. Drinks stayed full and their attentiveness never felt intrusive. The bartenders make a great top-shelf margarita. Dinner was excellent. TRY the bacon-wrapped scallops! My main course was the New York strip, preared Rare. The steak was cooked perfectly and its flavor was robust and satisfying to say the least. The desserts were superb. Our table split the bread pudding topped with cinnamon ice cream. Did I mention the service was excellent? The general manager stopped by twice just to check on things; an excellent sign that the customers are being taken care of. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant to those who appreciate good service, a break from the ""get in and get out"" mentality that has consumed America's restaurant culture. Pros: Great Service, Great food more

Best Steak Ever 2/29/2008

I have only been to this restaurant once, but being a native Texan who enjoys steak, I have to say I have had my best steak here. The service was impeccable, our steaks were perfectly cooked, and the complimentary sides were also delicious. The dessert we ordered was not exactly what we wanted, but that had more to do with our choosing something not what we usually enjoy. I am definitely looking forward to my next visit! Pros: Food incredible, service superb Cons: Can be costly, though extremely good value more

Not a Great night 12/12/2007

I have been wanting to go to III Forks since they came to Austin. I have eaten at some of the best steak houses around the country. I will admit while the steak was good, nothing else held a candle to the other upscale steak resturants around Austin. It took 15mins to get a drink. Our waiter walked past us 5 times after our food arrived and never checked on us. My husband had to get up and go to the wait station to get a knife! And our dessert was not memorable. The hostess came by and asked how our meal was and I told her it was my first and last time there. Then I explained to her our experience and what we got was her card and asked if we would give them a second try. Not impressed and did not feel our concern was satisfied. She also stated that the room we were in was probably under staffed...I had a vender in town Monday night and they wanted steak, guess where we did not go. Had an exceptional dinner at Ruth Chris. more

Best Steak in Austin! 9/30/2007

THE FOOD HERE IS EXCELLENT! Went for the first time on Saturday night with a group of 7. We all had steak and everyone's steak was excellent. I had the 10oz fillet oscar and it was out of this world . . . melted in your mouth! The veggies were crisp and delicious, and the bread was good too! Food prices are the same as similar quality steakhouses and you can have a great meal at a good price. The wine list is outstanding. If you want a cheap meal fast, go to McDonalds. If you want an excellent dining experience, 3 Forks is the place to go! Pros: Food, Ambiance, Location, Friendly Staff more

just below average 9/9/2007

First off ,they don't give industry discounts, so if you work BOH or FOH anywhere you will not get a discount. Our waiter seemed nervous or incompetent I couldn't figure it out. The crab cake appetizer was pasty with all the breadcrumb filler. Scattered throughout the bread cake were bits of unseasoned crab and bell pepper. Disappointing! Nothing stood out about it, I would have sent it back, but I was hungry. The lobster bisque is too rich, a result of over-reducing the cream(kitchen cooks do not taste the food as it cooks.) The Halibut entree was well seasoned, which is uncommon. Unfortunately the menu desrcription did not say capers, or I would have asked for very few or on the side. So the fish was smothered in some white wine cream sace loaded with capers, somehow the sauce still lacked real flavor and depth. The vegetable sides were nothing special, the creamed corn was cold. The china they use looks very corparate and unappealing. The bread was obviously store bought, old half stale and needed salt. The only highlight was the baked potato. Is the waiter supposed to offer sour cream, chives etc? If he is we didn't see it. Waste of time, stay home and cook a HEB steak. Pros: downtown Cons: Bread, sauces lacked flavor, pricey for the quality, snobby hostess more

All Hype! This place is not in the same league as Trulucks or Sullivans. 6/29/2007

My family went there tonight to celebrate a birthday. The food was bland, nothing was great . We were very disappointed. At these prices you expect to find high quality, delicious food. In fact, my husband's stomach hurt for 2 hours after dinner. Save your money and go to one of the other good restaurants in town. more

Horrible service, terrible acoustics, disappointing food 5/27/2007

As a fan of the III Forks in Dallas, I was looking forward to trying it here. We made reservations for Saturday night. They gave us a booth in the bar area. Despite our apprehensions, we didn't ask for another table. Big mistake! The bar area at III Forks should not include booths for dining. It is too loud, too crowded, and quite clearly a matter of ""out of sight, out of mind"" for the waitstaff assigned to the tables there. Ten minutes after we were seated, a waiter offered us a wine menu and didn't give us a chance to order anything else after we declined it. Fifteen minutes later, we finally met our waiter but we didn't see him again until he brought our entrees. Someone else delivered our appetizers. We tried the bacon-wrapped scallops, the beef crostini, and a III Forks Sampler. Of the three, the sampler was the best. It was the only good food we had there and the only food that was adequately described on the menu. The Dover Sole was fresh but boring, whereas the beef medallions and tenderloin tips were too large and nearly flavorless, even though the tips were drenched in a salty red wine sauce that had a strange smokey taste. Stranger still--and even less appealing--were the side dishes. In a sad imitation of better steakhouses, III Forks presents its diners with a daily selection of side dishes that are brought to the table after the entrees have arrived. We were offered creamed corn that was extremely sugery and overripe beefsteak tomatoes sprinkled with parsley. However, even though we ordered baked potatoes with our entrees, the person with the sour cream, butter, and chives never came to our table and our waiter did not ask us how our food was or if we needed anything before he brought the check. Overall, it was the WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I've ever had in Austin and I have lived here for almost eight years. more

Good, But Could Be Better 4/19/2007

Nice ambiance. I liked the live piano music. Appetizer of Beef Croustades (thin beef on toast) was flavorful, tender and the cream sauce drizzled over it was great. I try a wedge salad everywhere I go, and nothing has compared to the blue cheese dressing at TL&C. Definitely split it with someone at your table - you are given about half a head of lettuce, whch will leave you too full to enjoy the entrees and desserts. The wedge salad was better than TL&C, with its extra chunky blue cheese dressing, bacon and thick tomato slice. Needed salt, though. My dinner companion got the III Forks Pepper Steak and hated it. Very tough, hard to chew and bland. I got the Filet Mignon & Crabcake St. Francis. The filet was the best I have had in my life - it was so tender I could pull out bites with my fork - FABULOUS, good flavor. I had it 'oscared' and they give plenty of crab pieces, 3 asparagus spears, and the sauce was creamy and rich. Don't waste your time with the hoity-toity crabcake - it was too burnt for my taste and bland, alot of crab and less bread - which is good, but it had no flavor. Nothing special about the crabcake. I was torn between the bread pudding and the creme brulee. Sometime brulee can just taste like eggs. The bread pudding with Amy's cinnamon ice cream and bourbon sauce with pecans, was a piece of HEAVEN. And I hate pecans (yes, and I still call myself a southna), but I ate everything on that plate. The bread was very moist and soft, no hard edges to jab you in the gums. The carmel sauce was rich and fabulous. The bread had no spice in it, so you must take a bite of bread, mixed with sauce and ice cream to get the full effect. If anyone gets the creme brulee, let me know how it was. Valet $10 with tip. Enjoy! Pros: Ambiance, Filet Mignon, Dessert Cons: Server gone for long periods, Where is the Parking?, Pricey more
