interesting 1/31/2007

I found this a refreshing place to dine. Our waiter was very nice, prompt and knowledgeable about the menu. I too have ate at Eddie V's, Sullivan's, Reeds and all the rest, but I say Forks' rates right up there with those. I have had good and bad meals at all the above just like some of the other reviewers have stated about III Forks. The dining room was full, but not overcrowded or loud, unlike Flemings or Ruth Chris has been. Wow... No one in jeans !!!! Don't get me wrong.. I like jeans too, but when I am out for a special event and I'm dressed up, somehow the atmosphere of people in jeans and t shirts sort of ruins my feeling of elegance. I will say I was disappointed that they did not offer the fries like Flemings or Reeds, but I found the mashed potatoes tasty and the veggies wonderful. I'm glad we have another place to choose from. I hope you give III Forks a chance. They've just opened and I'm sure like most new businesses and a kink or two to work through. We will be back !!\r Pros: good food, attentive wait staff more

Dirty front door is just the start 1/28/2007

III Forks, another restaurant from Dallas that they think will work in Austin. So let's get started...the front door was filthy which made me question the rest of the establishment. We were seated in a reasonable amount of time after two decent cocktails at the bar. Here's where my disappointment continued. Point 1: $8 Onion Rings? I love good food and I will pay for it but these onion rings were not even freshly made. Point 2: $40 for a steak = go to Sullivan's or Flemmings. Steak is steak and this was not special. No flavor, not aged. Maybe not prime. Ask for certification. Point 3: The service was so so and the waiter was not very knowlegeable about the different cuts of meat and had little reference for the wine. At this price, everyone should be on top of their game. Finally, PLASTIC DEER ANTLER chandeliers are bogus. Maybe big D folks think Austinites will settle for less. Don't waste your money. Pros: Wal-Mart atmostphere, Money for Nothing, Dirty Door Cons: Wal-Mart atmostphere, Money for Nothing, Dirty Door more

Best Meal Ever 1/22/2007

What a great evening! From the time we walked into the door, the service could not have been better. The atmosphere was first class and the food was the best I've ever had. Great wine list and much to my surprise, the seafood was as good as the perfectly cooked steak. Glad to see this first class restaurant has opened in Austin. Pros: Perfectly cooked steaks Cons: I didn't have room for dessert, the portions were too big! more

Extremely Disappointing 11/30/2006

First and foremost, the waiter had no clue what was going on. When asked for recommendations, he didnt seem to even know what was on the menu. When asked if there were any fish specials, he said NO and nothing else. When asked to explain the difference between two salads he read the menu description that I just finished reading (clearly required further explanation).\r \r I had the Halibut which was extremely bland (I finally asked the waiter what was the most popular fish on the menu). The tomato and mozarella salad with blue cheese was terrific (that's why the get a 3.5). I also tried the crab cakes which were the worst I've had in years. I feel like Long John Silver's must have a comparable menu item. It was that bad. It tasted as if the crab had been left out all night and day. The bread crumbs were the only other thing you could taste...besides the soured crab.\r \r Clearly this is not a glowing review. I was with at least ten others that had similar sentiments. Eddie V's is a much better option. In fact, Finn and Porter is a better option. The money you spend at III Forks, for feculent crab and bland fish, is completely absurd.\r \r If you're like me, and like to try new and different restaurants as much as possible, take my advice. Dont waste your time here. I've never had a negative experience like this one, anywhere. Pros: Ambience Cons: Parking, Service, Food, Prices more

Not a WOW Experience, but a nice Dinner: Really, just another Sullivans, except for Marginal waitstaff. 11/15/2006

Well, the four of us went to this new restaurant because we saw they had just opened in the Statesman. The Proprietor, Curtis Osmond was great and we had several people that came to check on us, but the waiter was less than stellar; intrusive and not in tune to the table at all. Came and interrupted several times when there was no need to. Disappeared for a while and then didn?t bring back to the table what she was supposed to be bringing back. We had to ask the busboy. She took our order and got a few things wrong and when I mentioned it after getting the food, she expressed irritation and then we didn't see her for quite awhile yet again. The bus guys were more accommodating it seems. I did let them know at the end of the meal when they asked how it was, the few quirks and we're jokingly told, ""Okay, we'll go fire her""...hmmmmm, I hope he was serious.\r \r Now the food was great, nothing spectacularly original but I did spend $250. The desserts were very good too. I think I would go back, but only if I can be sure I get a great waitperson.\r Pros: Neat decor and great Bar Cons: See comments more
