I recently went for my yearly mammogram and ultra sound and as usual was treated in a most professional manner but what was really impressive was the kindness and courtesy shown to me when I had to keep rescheduling my appointment. My husband was undergoing radiation treatment for a stage one cancer and I was overwhelmed but the appointment desk was understanding and very accommodating. They went the extra mile to get me cared for in a timely fashion. What a great staff and great care. more

I was really impressed with my whole experience. I came to them after going through two biopsies elsewhere . As I arrived I heard the office workers say that they often stay late to get newly diagnosed people help immediately... I then met Dr. Funk. I was relived to get some answers from her. She was honest, kind, and supportive. I now had a team behind me. She helped get my BRACA test results in a timely fashion and I had a lumpectomy scheduled soon after. Her surgical assistant Jackie was great with updates and detailed info ( loved the supplements). The surgery was easier on me than my previous two biopsies. I have healed well and will be going to Pink Lotus from now on!!! THANK YOU!!!!! Leslye Pas more

I came here at age 28 for my first mammogram. I knew I was at high risk because of my family history but what I did not know were all the possibilities that could eliminate that risk. Dr. Funk was warm, welcoming and friendly. She made me feel extremely comfortable when giving me information about what would later be life changing options. I decided to go through genetic testing and when I tested positive for one of the breast cancer genes, she helped encourage me to make one of the hardest decisions in my life. I had about a 1 in 2 chance of developing breast cancer. At age 30 I went through a prophylactic double mastectomy. This seems young, but my mother had passed away at a young age as well as her sisters and this was the right time. Dr. Funk probably saved my life and I really can't say anything to enough to show her and tell her my gratitude. Her friendly demeanor and expertise in the field gave me more confidence in this decision than I ever knew I had. The staff was always friendly and made an effort to remember who I was every step of the way. After going through everything I have no regrets and am so fortunate and appreciative I saw Dr. Funk in the first place. I am really happy with everything and the fact that I don't have to worry about my future and breast cancer. more

I can not begin to express my gratitude towards everyone at the Pink Lotus Breast Center!! Jackie you were fantastic and answered all of my scheduling questions in a heart beat to meeting Dr. Funk in person (all I can say is WOW she is amazing)!! I was so nervous the night before my nipple delay/implant removal surgery that I made myself sick to my stomach. As soon as I entered the Pink Lotus Breast Center that morning I had a sense of calm come over me I knew I was in the bests hands and everything was going to be alright. Would you believe I felt better after surgery than the night before surgery!! The surgery was a breeze I went back to my hotel finished up some work and felt great. Seriously, having my wisdom teeth out was much harder on me than this. I believe following Dr. Funk's pre-surgery requirements made the surgery so easy. I took a total of two pain pills just to stay ahead of the pain and switched to Tylenol after that. Today is day two from surgery and I do not even need the Tylenol! I am amazed. All my fears are gone for my next surgery and the best part is my (national geographic tatas) will be gone to!!! Can't wait to fill a bra again with new and improved breasts. No more MRI's and Mammograms for this CHICA!! more

At the end of February of 2013, I was diagnosed with Stage I DCIS II breast cancer. Not soon after my diagnosis, I decided to have a double mastectomy. After a referral from Dr. Jay Orringer, I decided to interview Dr. Kristi Funk at the Pink Lotus Breast Center. Everyone in the office is so nice and helpful. They made me feel at ease from the moment I stepped in for my appointment. It made me less nervous about the surgery knowing that I was in such good hands. From the time I met Dr. Funk, I felt completely at ease. Dr. Funk was very caring and very informative. She took the time to explain every part of the surgery and diagnosis to me (mastectomy and reconstruction). As soon as I had any blood test done, Dr. Funk would call me personally to let me know what the result was. \r \r After the mastectomy portion of the surgery, Kristi came up from the surgery room and meticulously explained each part of the surgery and told my family exactly how the surgical procedure went. Whenever I go into the office for my post operative checkup (every 6 months checking on the lymph nodes), she always greets me with a hug and asks how I am doing. It is so comforting that she truly cares about all of her patients. She is such a wonderful surgeon! My scarring is minimal and I most importantly I have my health back,\r \r With her wealth of experience, Dr. Funk made a bad experience better and I am so happy with the results so far. more

There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe the brilliant and extraordinary Dr. Kristi Funk and her entire staff. I originally consulted with Dr. Funk when it was discovered that I carried the BRCA2 mutation. She sat down next to me and explained the potential risks as well as my choices, with the most compassionate yet completely confident bedside manner of any doctor I've ever met. My own personal choice was a prophylactic double mastectomy-- however in the course of my pre-surgical testing; an MRI discovered that I already had invasive breast cancer in my right breast. Again, Dr. Funk delivered the news with kindness and empathy-- but also in a very detailed manner (including charts and drawings and lists) so that I could understand what my journey would look like. She referred me to an excellent reconstructive surgeon as well as a wonderfully wise doctor of Chinese medicine who became part of my team-- and on January 4, 2104, I had my mastectomy. My experience with Dr. Funk and her team at the Pink Lotus Breast Center (from each and every nurse, patient coordinator, and receptionist-- absolutely EVERYONE) could not possibly have been a more positive experience. She is a genius surgeon filled with incredible humanity. I attribute her skill to be able to, just two weeks after my mastectomy, get back into my usual Sunday routine of climbing of Mt. Baldy! more

Dr Kristi Funk and the staff at the Pink Lotus Breast Center are a godsend. When I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer a few years ago Dr. Funk was my surgeon. She was amazing - compassionate, super-competent, kind and informative. She helped me through one of the most awful times of my life. She took the time to answer all of my questions, reassure me and make sure that my ""treatment team"" (oncologist, radiologist, etc.) were the best. \r \r Dr. Funk's staff is top notch. They are always caring and compassionate. I have had cranky mammogram techs in the past and it's no fun. Not the case with Dr. Funk's staff. AND you get an actual robe instead of one of those scratchy paper gowns. Dr. Funk and her staff know how to treat people, especially when patients are going though what can be devastating and terrifying events in their lives. They even have a buddy system where a new patient can get in touch with someone who's been through the whole breast cancer nightmare, survived it and wants to help someone else.\r \r I highly recommend the Pink Lotus Breast Center. more

Since I use internet reviews all the time to make decisions, I thought I should start contributing! My journey with breast cancer started with an irregular MRI in June, at which point I was referred to Dr. Taylor since my prior breast specialist moved out of state. Dr. Taylor is known to me as ""Dr. No Worries"" - at our first meeting, she had a positive, educated and holistic approach to what was perhaps the toughest couple months of my life to date. She is incredibly intelligent, up to date in her research, and gives in to my need to hug every doctor that could potentially save my life. She didn't want to put the ""cart before the horse"" so we got another review of the MRI and then an MRI guided biopsy. At each step, she called me with results as soon as they became available. I did indeed have high grade DCIS, and after discussing options and my family history (both of my parents are breast cancer survivors), I opted for a double mastectomy. When I was in the presence of Dr. Taylor, I felt her commitment to my survival and ultimate victory over this nasty bugger. I could always count on her smile together with an unspoken passion for the career she has chosen. Choosing a surgeon for this type of disease is SO very personal - you really do need to ""connect"" and sometimes this is hard considering the gravity of the disease. But if you, as a patient, can keep a good attitude and even a sense of humor (is that too much to ask? maybe for some, I know), you will see it reflected in those who care for you. I have read the reviews below and understand some of the issues and problems experienced. When I first went to Pink Lotus after it first opened, I too was upset with billing and reception. HOWEVER, I must say that this last experience which SAVED MY LIFE, was completely different. The front desk was welcoming, every nurse was pleasant (if not a little too happy in their pink outfit), and billing was as easy as it could be. They took care of all pre-authorizations and submitted all forms on my behalf. Sometimes the phones are difficult - the wait time can be long. But when you are in the position that I was in, I had no choice but to ""hold"" and sometimes go rogue by pressing a back line and then getting transferred. Of course I had to hold again ;) We do what we have to do to survive! \r \r Bottom Line is that I feel that Pink Lotus Breast Center is a compassionate, cutting edge, and top of the line specialty center and I would recommend it highly to anyone who might need its services. Dr. Taylor gets two thumbs up and a huge hug. She has my deepest respect and gratitude. more

I can't believe I was SO FORTUNATE to have had what I know to be the 'best of the best' breast care in the US with breast specialist/surgeon, Dr. Kristi Funk and her amazing staff at the Pink Lotus. My fortune up to this time was not so great as I am Brca1 positive and lost my little sister at the age of 43 in 2011 and my mother at the age of 52 in 1980 to ovarian cancer. I thought I was being pro-active by having a prophylactic sapilingo oopherectomy in December of 2012 only to be told upon waking from surgery that I too had Ovarian Cancer. A week before this diagnosis another sister, who is also Brca1 positive, was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer! My odds of 87% for developing breast cancer was all I needed to make my decision to have a double mastectomy when my chemo therapy for the ovarian cancer was completed. In April of 2013, a month before the end of my chemo, I read Angelina Jolie's all too familiar and sad story and immediately called the Pink Lotus from Montana for a second opinion. It was during the initial consult with Dr. Funk at the Pink Lotus that my husband and I knew we would be in fantastic hands to get me free from the threat of cancer and to the 'other side'! MANY THANKS to everyone at Pink Lotus and praise to our heavenly Father for the gifts he has given Dr. Funk and her caring staff!! more

I have nothing but the best possible of things to say about Dr. Lesley Taylor and the amazing staff at the Pink Lotus Center. From the moment you enter the private facility, you are treated by positive, friendly and respectful staff members. Everyone there really does care for your well-being and you do feel that care emanating from them during your visits to the facility - they even know you by name. They really try to schedule you in for appointments to suit your schedule and needs and are often working late to do just that. Dr. Taylor is an amazing surgeon both in her actual skill and her tenderness during the often difficult conversations that come with diagnoses and treatment for cancer. She makes herself available to you before and after surgery and really takes time to talk to you about available options to you so that you are well informed. Her warmth is immediately noticeable by her ever present smile. She is on the ball about maintaining communication with the other doctors involved in your care and recovery to make sure all bases are covered. The surgery center in the same building as the Pink Lotus Office is private and extremely convenient. The surgical staff there is also first rate and really nurturing to you both before and after your surgery. I hope that others read this review and go to this amazing center whether it is for a mammogram or for more extensive medical diagnosis or treatment because it is THE BEST! more

Words cannot even express our gratitude towards Dr Funk and her amazing team at Pink Lotus Breast Center. Before being diagnosed with Breast Cancer I had rarely even been to a doctor for a cold and was was not planning on looking into a mammogram appointment until I was older so when I heard about the news my husband and I had no idea of where to go or what to do. Luckily and thankfully a friend had just had a really wonderful experience with Dr Funk at Pink Lotus Breast Center and told us that it was THE BEST place to go for any and all breast related issues and care.\r \r When we walked in we were greeted by the sweet receptionist Jamie and the other sweet staff Heather etc... and they, in an instant, made us feel welcome and comfortable. Then as soon as we met Dr Funk her compassionate, confident and steadfast attitude allowed us to immediately feel like we were in the most incredible hands ever and from that moment forward everything was going to be ok.\r \r Before finding Dr Funk we did not know what we were going to do, all the information, decisions and choices all felt so overwhelming. But as soon as we found Dr Funk and her incredible team we knew that everything was going to be better than just OK...we were in top notch hands and were going to have the most stellar care. One of the many wonderful things about PLBC is that upstairs is where they do all check ups, mammograms etc and for surgical needs you just go right downstairs to their state of the art surgical center where it is peaceful without the sometimes impersonal hospital feel. Dr Funk's beautiful and peaceful office, sweet souled staff and her outstanding knowledge and talented skills make Pink Lotus Breast Center the best choice for any and all Breast care needs. Pink Lotus Breast Center is ""The Breast""! We will always be forever grateful to Dr Funk and her loving staff for all they did to make our breast cancer journey as successful and sweet as it was:) more

Worst Service Ever 7/11/2011

I booked an appointment here for this morning at 8:15. I hadn't been here before but my radiologist had recently moved to this practice and I wanted the continuity. I was told to show up at 8 am, which I did. The woman at the front desk was on a personal phone call and barely glanced up at me. I told her I was there for an 8:15 appointment and needed to fill out the new patient paperwork. She nodded at me and I took a seat. 10 minutes later, after giggling on the phone the whole time, she got up and left and was replaced by another woman who didn't acknowledge me at all. I told her who I was and asked her if she had paperwork for me to fill out. She looked through a stack of files on her desk and couldn't find one for me. I tried to confirm that I had an appointment at 8:15 and she said she didn't know because her computer wasn't started yet. Seriously? It was now 8:12. I asked her if this was a real business. She looked confused. I told her I'd been there almost 15 minutes and was basically being ignored. She told me she had only met me 30 seconds ago so how could she have ignored me. If a business opens at 8 shouldn't the computer at the front desk be turned on and shouldn't the receptionist be prepared to greet people and sign them in. I said I had a lousy feeling about the place and walked out. Now I need to find a new place to get a mammogram. Only go here if you have all day to spend waiting for service. more

Dr. Kristi Funk and Staff of PLBC are crusaders for breast c 6/7/2011

I have very large breast and I am always feeling them for changes and lumps. One day after coming out the shower I noticed what I though was an indentation. Since I tend to have a very overactive imagination I started goggling everything about "dimple" and indentation. Bad move.... I was scared but researched breast specialist and stumbled on PLBC. What a wonderful place.....from the moment you dial and get a live person the tone is set...so nice, helpful, warm. then you walk into this non medicinal setting. Beautiful blonde wood with pink flower arrangements. Staff members in pink and black scrubs. filling out your with paperwork with a pink pen. The you are taken into the room and you don't put on a scratchy paper gown you're given an actual robe . Then in walks the beautiful, radiant, warm, intelligent Dr. Kristi Funk and all the pieces just fall into place. She put me at ease right away just by her being who she is.She checked my breast thoroughly told me I had overstrecthed ligament from have very large breast and to come back in 7 months when I turn 40. I have my mamo booked for Jan 5.2012. because I know if I should ever have to deal with any scare or the actual disease I would want her to be my wing woman. Dr. Funk and the staff of PLBC are doing a great thing. They have created a warm loving feminine enviornment to address the health of a woman's breast. You are doing yourself a disservice if you don't patronize PLBC. more

Amazing Center 12/12/2010

PLBC is a gift and Dr. Kristi Funk is a blessing. I was diagnosed three years ago during a routine exam. My gynecologist, Dr. Ayanna Walden, found an odd shaped lump and immediately decided "Let's just be safe, I am going to send you to my good friend for and exam" I was 34, too young, no way this is cancer. So I headed over to meet Dr. Funk late on a Friday afternoon. I was the last appointment of the day. I was nervous. But the minute Dr. Funk walked into the room I knew I was in good hands. She was kind, bright, happy and informative. She was also not going to leaving anything on the table. After an ultrasound, she did a biopsy. I think about it now and am so thankful for the decisions both she and Ayanna made that day. They saved my life. I returned on Monday to find out the results were positive for cancer. Shock went through me like lightening. I couldn't talk, just cried. Kristi was upset as well but reassuring. She said this was going to be a long road but there was hope, always hope. I couldn't talk, but had to call my parents. When my mom picked up the phone I couldn't make a sound. I handed the phone to Kristi. I don't know why, it seemed unfair that she should have to tell my parents, but she did. It was such a kind and loving gesture. I had only know her for about an hour and in that that moment there was no question about who I was going to partner with in this fight. more

Grateful Husband 11/23/2010

When my wife told me she had breast cancer I was floored-didn?t know what to say. Trying to be a supportive husband I knew wanted her to have the best doctor possible but was feeling overwhelmed by the whole process. In the next couple of weeks we interviewed two surgeons and one oncologist but were unable to get answers or information that made sense. more

Peace of Mind 11/21/2010

Kristi Funk was my surgeon when I was treated for breast cancer in 2008. Her exceptional surgical skills are matched by her intelligence and compassion. She has always provided me with the information I need to make the decisions that are best for me, and she and her staff have always been responsive, supportive, professional, and kind. It gives me great peace of mind to have a physician I can trust so completely. more

Heaven Sent Dr. Kristi Funk and the PLBC 11/8/2010

I truly cannot say enough about Dr. Kristi Funk and her phenomenal staff at the PLBC. Dr. Funk is insightful, personable, direct, gentle, kind, and concerned. I have had the unfortunate experience in the past of working with other doctors/centers who left me with more questions and concerns than I arrived with...this has never been the case with Dr. Funk. In fact, from the first visit, I knew that I was receiving the best care possible. Her staff is not only very skilled and professional but also incredibly thoughtful and kind. I am thrilled to recommend Dr. Funk and the PLBC. From the moment you enter the door, you receive the highest level of care delivered with a heart. more

With a Grateful Heart . . . 10/11/2010

Earlier this year, I learned I needed to have surgery done within a week's time. I feel so very, very fortunate to have been referred to Dr. Kristi Funk. She is absolutely terrific - made me feel at ease right away with her knowledge, expertise and caring personality, She explained every step in detail (even drew pictures to illustrate what I have!) and was available to answer all of my questions and concerns pre and post-op. Plus the front office staff, surgical nurses and the insurance/billing folks at PLBC are all so helpful, positive and treat you as part of their extended family. Now that their digital mammogram center is up and running, I look forward to having my next mammogram there. more

Best of the Best 10/2/2010

When I was told, in 2008, I needed to consult with a breast surgeon I asked everyone I knew for a recommendation. Kristi Funk's name came up more than once. She was grouped in with top surgeons from UCLA, St. John's and Cedars. When making my appointment I was greeted by a staff member with a sweet southern drawl and the reassurances that everything will be taken care of. Upon meeting Dr. Funk, with her professional, caring manner I knew I had made the right choice. Her enthusiasm and knowledge came through in conversation. She has never talked "at" me, but "with" me, taking the time to explain all procedures and findings. She is excited by all new developments and advancements that she can bring to her patients to make their lives easier in tough times. Kristi enjoys what she does and is gifted in all aspects of her practice. The Pink Lotus is a haven for women with breast issues. We are all uncomfortable, to varying degrees, by this part of our health regimen but knowing that when we step through the doors we are among the sisterhood we breathe easier. Driving an hour and a half into the city for my appointment is not exactly convenient but knowing that when I reach my destination I will be greeted by name, taken in at my appointment time and given the time and respect (and a nice fluffy spa-like robe) is more than worth it. While I am not a cancer patient, she gives my "lumpy issues" complete care and attention. Before Dr. Funk and Pink Lotus, I was shifted from one doctor to another. She has now told me I am "under [her] care" exclusively which makes me feel wonderful. I now make my appointments solely with Pink Lotus. more
