I first met Dr. Kristi Funk for a biopsy on a lump in my breast in 2007. I was 41 years old at the time, a little young for breast cancer, so I expected it to be nothing at all. But unfortunately, it was cancer. I'll never forget the moment Dr. Funk gave me the diagnosis. She hugged me as I cried trying to process what was happening. She reassured me that we would get the lump out of there right away. Dr. Funk takes pride in her surgical skills, and rightfully so. She moved tissue around in the breast after removing the tumor to make my breast look as good as it possibly could. There is no deformity whatsoever, just a slightly smaller breast than I had before, due to the tumor and surrounding tissue being removed. I think that's a reasonable trade-off for becoming cancer free! Dr. Funk treats me like a friend, not just a patient. She somehow puts me at ease about any fears or concerns I have about anything. She even reworked one of my cancer scars that had healed sort of strangely and made it look better. That's above and beyond what I would ever expect from a doctor! more

If you've been diagnosed with breast cancer, Dr. Kristi Funk is the surgeon to go to. It really doesn't matter where you live, you won't find a better doctor anywhere. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March 2009. It was a shock and as everyone who faced this diagnosis, I wasn't sure what to think. I imagined myself disfigured and bald and wasn't sure I wanted to do anything at all. I met with three surgeons when I was trying to decide on the course of action. I actually didn't even meet with one of them...I walked out of that office after 15 minutes in the waiting room. Another surgeon was a world-famous doctor and i was very impressed with his credentials but it was Kristi who won my heart. I spent three weeks deciding who to go with, calling their offices with questions and concerns. Dr. Funk was extremely patient with me, ALWAYS called me back and never made me feel like I was a nuisance. In the end, I'm SO grateful that I chose her! My surgery, I had a lumpectomy, went extremely well and the most amazing thing...I walked out of OR with a band-aid! No draining tubes, no bandages, no bruises! When I took off the band-aid a week later, I couldn't even see the scar! I still cannot believe how Kristi was able to do what she did. I've seen many scars on breast cancer survivors and I'm proud to say that you can't tell I've had anything done. Besides being a great surgeon, Kristi is an amazing human being: compassionate, caring, sweet and understanding. She doesn't just operate, she becomes a part of your life. I email her when I have questions for my girlfriends' concerns and she always responds. I truly prefer her over any of the other doctors I'm dealing with. I interviewed three different surgeons when I found out I had breast cancer and needed surgery. Dr. Kristi Funk stood out among the candidates for several reasons. Her warmth, the fact that she engaged me in conversation to understand what my fears and desires were, and her patience in explaining my options in straightforward language. She is an outstanding surgeon and a wonderful compassionate human being. Dr Funk is the most competent and caring doctor. She has a rare combination of strong knowledge, dedication to her profession and patients and she is incredibly nice and warm. Truly she is fantastic. I can't tell you what a difference Dr. Funk made in my life. Not only is she a talented and gifted surgeon but she also has the most amazing bedside manner I have EVER experienced. She is everything you would want in a doctor/surgeon who is going to guide you through the delicate first stages of the life-changing experience of being diagnosed with cancer. Words that come to mind when I think of Dr. Funk: warmth, kindness, patience, availability, directness, hopefulness, reassurance, respect, dependability, trust. I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in 2003, and interviewed about 4 surgeons. I met Dr. Kristi Funk, who was at the Cedars Breast Ctr at the time, and she immediately did an ultrasound, and showed me my tumor. I asked a million questions, and learned an enormous volume of info. right there and then from Kristi. Her manner is completely candid, direct, and lovely. She gave me many options, explained the reality of my cancer in laymen terms, which enabled me to get my head around this diagnosis, and eased my complete panic. I immediately knew she was the Dr. for me. The morning before she performed my surgery, I was filled with anxiety, and the moment I saw Dr. Funk, ALL of my fear disappeared, I knew she would take care of me. The Pink Lotus Breast Center is fantastic. From the very first visit I was greeted with care, compassion, and friendliness from the entire staff. When meeting Dr. Kristi Funk, I immediately knew I had met the doctor for me. She was so caring and reassuring. I came to the PLBC with the diagnosis of breast cancer. I was terrified. The examining rooms were set with soothing music & comfy robes. Dr. Funk was very thorough with her exam. I loved the fact that everything was at her facility. I was able to have an ultrasound and biopsy right there and then. I did not have to wait to make another appt. and go elsewhere. When I left my first visit, I was feeling very relieved and certain that I was going to get through the next year in good hands and that I was going to survive. Their personnel and medical staff are there to greet you at all times with a smile and advise you on any questions you may have, no matter how little or large, they may be. I had a Mammogram every year since 1991, back then my primary care physician would give me a referral for a Mammogram to be done at a local imaging center. Never ever did anyone tell me that Breast Centers existed. I believe that if I had been going to a Breast Center since 1991, that my Cancer would have been detected in an early stage rather than stage three advanced, fifteen years later.
