Best

This is the one and only place I will go for a steak. I save up for a little then splurge on the porter house and a few glasses of Cabernet. Yes that is a good comination :)

Worst

Maybe it was the build up from everybody telling me if you like steak you have to go to Peter Luger's. Well it wasn't worth it. The steak was good but I've had much better. I'v...

Disappointment 2/29/2008

Steak had no taste! I don't even think they seasoned it. The cut was nice and it was very tender but it had no flavor. The sides and salad were nothing worthwhile and their ""world famous"" steak sauce is actually... COCKTAIL SAUCE! With like one other ingredient. A big disappointment. It seemed like a place where wannabe gangsters take their girlfriends to make them feel important. The only good thing was that even though we kept hearing how ""gruff"" the service is our waiter was very nice. Not worth it. Pros: Nice service Cons: Everything else more

Best Steak in the Country 2/28/2008

Hands down. If you want a great steak, go to peter lugers. The steak for 2/3/4 is the way to go. The waiter will cut and serve you the steak. The cream spinach as a side is a nice compliment to the MEAT. Hmmm, meat! The service is also great, I think all the waiters belong to a union. Do not ask for a menu. \r \r Just bring cash, because they don't take credit cards! Cons: No credit cards more

WORST SERVICE & NOTHING TO BRAG ABOUT THE FOOD 2/3/2008

WE WERE AT PETER LUGERS LAST WEEK, THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE INCLUDING THE MANAGER NAMED RICHIE. HE WAS TERRIBLE. WE HAD RESERVATION AND WE HAD TO WAIT AN ADDITIONAL FORTY MINUTES TO SEAT. AVOID THIS OVER RATED RESTAURANT. FOR THE PRICE IT IS NOT WORTH IT. I WILL STICK TO MORTON'S. Cons: EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PLACE INCLUDING THE WOOD TABLES WITH NO LINEN more

One of Ten Best Steakhouses in America . 1/19/2008

Let's just say if you like Great Food ! This is the spot .If your staying in Manhattan just get a cab,it will make your life alot easier, just add fifty dollars to your dinner bill for a round trip from 5th ave Hotel. I have not been back here in 20 years , so it was a great suprise to see nothing had changed, only got better. The prime beef is aged to perfection-cuts like warm butter-outstanding flavor. Service was impeckable. One of the 10 Best Steakhouses in America. Call for a reservation . Pros: Everyting Cons: Nothing more

Best Steak Ever! 1/4/2008

You people who criticize the steak are nuts! I have been to all the best steakhouses in New York and they are the best. For example I went to Burton and Doyle and Quality Meats in the last 3 weeks and Lugers crushes them. The creamed spinach and home fries are amazing. The bacon is outstanding and the shrimps in the shrimp cocktail are huge. The chocolate mousse cake is tops and you can't beat the homemade schlag. The wine list is very good, although not the best in NY(not too many of us spend more than 4 or 500 bucks a bottle anyway and thats where we usually cap it so the 5000 dollar bottles are not really an issue) As far as the ""rude"" waiters go, I have NEVER had a problem with them. We joke with them all the time and they love my friends and myself every time we come in. I'll be there tomorrow with a party of 12 and loving every minute of it!\r \r For all the haters, there's always outback craphouse and boulder shack. Stick with steaks you understand. Pros: Best Steak you'll ever have Cons: Trekking to Brooklyn more

Not family friendly 1/3/2008

Our family made reservations on New Year's eve for an early dinner at 4:45. We have dined at Peter Lugers before and knew what to expect and we were looking forward to having a great meal. The wait staff was very attentive and service was good. As we were completing our meal waiters were bringing out balloons to decorate the restaurant for the approaching new year. They placed helium balloons tied with string throughout the restuarant and our waiter and others gave the 6 children at our table each a balloon. The children tied their balloons to their chairs as we prepared to leave. The manager/maitre de Richie, intructed one of the waiters to cut the string on all the balloons near and around our table because he felt that the children would take them. Then we were told by the waiter that he would be taking back the balloons that the children were given. First of all we would never allow our children to take every single balloon that they got get their hands on. Furthermore they wouldn't even want the balloons; the waiter thought it would be nice to give them out. We asked to speak to Richie who could not understand why we wanted to question him on his lack of professionalism or customer service. He would not relent on his decision. Let's face it for a $500 meal that isn't worth nearly as much he couldn't find it in him to give 6 children a 10 cent latex balloon to take with them. Would it really have taken away from their decorations?? I was embarrassed for him. For this reason I would not go back or recommend anyone else to. There are so many great restaurants in the city where you can get a great steak for less. more

The worest experience ever! 12/29/2007

My family and I went for Christmas Day to Peter Lugers in Brooklyn, we go to New York every Christmas time and needless to say it was the worst Christmas dinner we ever had. I called two months in advance and made reservations for my family. We arrive and as soon has they sat us down they saw my two infants and they began making a scene and said ""NO NO NO this is not going to work out, get up and wait by the bar again."" Everyone who has children and especially small children, know it is a mission going to a restaurant with them. We got up and they told me I needed to include my infants in my reservation. Thirty mintues later they sat us down again. Bread was served and was harder than a rock. My husband asked if they can please warm up the bread. The serve said NO and turned around. My husband was livid! The manager said he will not warm up the bread for no one. They serve this horrible T-bone steak, we had two appetizers and three sides total people was five. The bill was 600.00 ohhh by the way they only accept cash, so that way you can't dispute the bill with your credit card company and they don't have to report to Uncle Sam. Ladies & Gentlemen avoid this over rated, get in and get out joint. We love steakhouses this by far was the worst. Especially there management! Cons: Terrible service for such a hefty bill, what ever happened to customer service more

It's Not #1 11/30/2007

Peter Lugar's is not the best steak house in New York despite all the people who say ""it's the best there is"". \r The prices are really out of line and (I've dined there at least 6 times) the food can be inconsistant. I have noticed they tend to over-butter thier steaks on occasion. It's not uncommon to get a grumpy, old waiter who will have you questioning yourself as to why you are spending all this money for such a less-than-great experience. \r \r Peter Lugar's is a skippable New York dining institution. Pros: Can be very good Cons: Price, waitstaff and frankly the customers detract from one's enjoyment more

One of the best steaks I've ever had 11/2/2007

My lunch at Peter Luger Steakhouse was one of the highlights of my recent trip to New York. I've heard so much about this place that I made it one of my must do items for my vacation. And it was worth it! An outstanding tender and aged porterhouse cooked to medium rare perfection. Our server Mike was very friendly and made my wife and I feel welcome for our dining experience. I don't know when I'll be visiting New York again but when I do, I'm going to make sure to make my reservations for Peter Luger Steakhouse. Pros: The Porterhouse Cons: I don't live in New York so I can't go here more often more

THE place to go for Steak 8/21/2007

1st things 1st --> YOU MUST HAVE A RESERVATION\r \r The Steakhouse to go for large groups, very accommodating. The service was impeccable and everyone was very friendly. The food was great, we ordered two four person steaks medium rare and it came out perfect. The portions are a bit HUGE and there is little alternative for those who do not eat beef (although I dont know why you'd come to steakhouse for anything but steak...but for those who do not eat beef, there is a fish entree with fresh fish which was quite good, although compared to the giant steak it seemed very minuscule). \r \r To finish off your meal they have different deserts but I think everyone in my group had the Holy Cow, this incredibly huge chocolate Sunday. \r \r A MUST GO for people who live in NY and want steak. Pros: Ambience, Service, Food Cons: Price, Parking more

Best steak in New York City 8/20/2007

Peter Luger's is one of the city's great institutions. I have enjoyed going to Peter Luger's at least once a year for each of the past 6 years. I have never been disappointed. And for those of you who think the service is rude, it is usually because you just asked the waiter for the menu (regulars don't need it) or worse you have the menu, and you asked for fish. Remember this place is world famous for its steak. If you want flounder, please go somewhere else and save the reservation space for the people who love Peter Luger's steak! Pros: Best Steak in New York, Great appetizers, and dessert. Parking is easy. Cons: Prompt seating is lacking more
