Cheap and quick - the way I like it :) 10/5/2008

My girlfriend dropped off my dead laptop since I was busy taking classes at Columbia U. I desperately needed to recover some assignments and thesis for the end of the semester. I told the NYCH techs i needed it recovered the same day. The did better than that. They recovered all of my files in 1 hour! And only for $85! I'm able to graduate on time with no problems. A gracious thank you for truly being my life saver! Pros: quick and cheap more

My girlfriend dropped off my dead laptop since I was busy taking classes at Columbia U. I desperately needed to recover some assignments and thesis for the end of the semester. I told the NYCH techs i needed it recovered the same day. The did better than that. They recovered all of my files in 1 hour! And only for $85! I'm able to graduate on time with no problems. Hidden gem on 57th Street 9/12/2008

It was a little difficult finding this 57th Street computer shop - no signs and it is on the 6th floor. But, once I found it, I was very pleased. I got quick help and was able to get a diagnostic on the spot. The problem with my laptop was that it would turn on. The technician took out the battery and put it back in and voila! My computer was on! They didn't even charge me for their time because it was such an easy fix. Definitely a hidden gem! Pros: nice folks, very reasonable! more

Hidden gem on 57th Street 9/12/2008

It was a little difficult finding this 57th Street computer shop - no signs and it is on the 6th floor. But, once I found it, I was very pleased. I got quick help and was able to get a diagnostic on the spot. The problem with my laptop was that it would turn on. The technician took out the battery and put it back in and voila! My computer was on! They didn't even charge me for their time because it was such an easy fix. Definitely a hidden gem! Pros: nice folks, very reasonable! more

I was used to going to the Best Buy or Circuit City store for tech support. And waited 2 weeks for my computer to be fixed. Yesterday, I went the New York Computer Help shop - the west side one on 57th - and was really happy. I'm really not one to review a company, but really want to share my experience. I was greeted nicely and the gentleman waited patiently for me to finish my sob story about how my computer has a slow startup and sometimes get a blue screen. I dropped my computer off, got a call with the diagnostic 2 hours later. I approved for $125 and was able to pick up my laptop the same day. They even explained how to prevent this issue from happening again. Definitely top-notch service. Pros: professional, respectful, and qualified more

My laptop needed serious help. It was slow as molasses. These folks gave a free diagnostic and replaced a part..i think the drive where the files are. NYCH came to my small office because of having intermittent Internet connection. It was more like 80% down and 20% working. They assessed the problem and determined within 1 hour that the cabling was improperly configured with the router and modem. Very professional and swift. Just felt like a should return the favor by saying a big "Thank you!" more

Truly a warm experience...and got my laptop started again too 6/24/2008

I was frantic - my Sony vaio decided to drink some red wine...Well, OK, I smartly dumped a carafe of Merlot on my keyboard. I didn't turn it on and called New York Help. A nice fellow told to leave it off for a couple of days to dry and turn my laptop sideways. I did as directed and then turned it on. It worked by was a tad sluggish. So, I brought it into their West Side shop to return the favor for the nice advice. They wiped the inside clean and voila...I was computing fast in no time. And from now on, I'll keep my wine in a squeeze bottle! Pros: free advice, compassionate more

I needed a backup of my files since my laptop screen wouldn't turn on. these techies did it within an hour's time and I was back to work again. they even showed me how to use the files on my mac. great service and fast..oh yeah..and cheap! Office internet is working flawlessly now 6/8/2008

My office has been having drops from the Internet. I called up Verizon and they were no help. I had a couple of tech companies come out, one that was through the family, and one that I found through Craigslist. The first one replaced the router which worked for 2 hours and the next one gave up and said to switch to TimeWarner. NY Computer came out and said there was a configuration problem and was able to work with the same equipment to fix the problem. It's been a month and the internet and file sharing is a joy. I waited a month before writing this to make sure it's still working. :) I am a closet pessimist. just throwing a good referral out there to those in need. Pros: very professional - they know what to do...period Cons: wish i chose them first more

Replaced my motherboard quickly when I thought my Dell was dead 5/18/2008

My Dell wouldn't turn on. And my warranty expired. With 2 strikes against, me I was referred by Dell to go to New York Computer Help in Manhattan. They replaced the motherboard within 2 days and was cheaper than Dell said it would be. Definitely a pleasure! Pros: Affordable, fast Cons: Wished I found them sooner prior to Dell's referral more
