Something suspicious is going on 1/4/2012

I adopted my sweet dog who they said was 2 years old. I went to my first vet appointment and said she looks older then she is. I went to another vet and she said she was 5-8 years old. I am very shocked to find this out and still am. I believe that someone who has opened up a dog shelter would have more experience in guessing the dogs age. Even myself who doesn't have too much experience with dogs, starting wondering about her age because I started doing research and I noticed signs about my dog. Her eyes have some cloudiness and her teeth have some wear to them. She also isn't as active as you would think a 2 year old dog would be. I would never have any problem with adopting an older dog maybe in the future but this is my first dog adopted alone and I went in there thinking she was around that age. I also don't think it's fair because I payed above $500 dollars for my dog. I took her to the vet and she is having some issues and I am waiting for results this week. Now when you adopt or buy a dog I know its your full responsibility to care for that dog and any dog could develop issues but it is a known that the older the dog is the more likely health issues can occur. Even if she was 2 years old I know something could go wrong. But if she was actually 2 years old like they told me I could help prevent some health problems in the future just by diet, exercise, supplements, etc. I know I am saying a lot but I want people to understand where I am coming from and how someone could be somewhat distraught from this situation. It tried to gets answer out of them with the history of the dog(I know you don't always know the history of a shelter dog but this dog was a breeder dog) My experience with other shelters is they seem very open to let you know the information but with this place you have to pry to get the answers. I think something is not right with what is going on and I see good and bad reviews of the place on this website and others. I think if you have issues with this place you shouldn't just deal with it but try to understand what is going on. I tried searching for more information on this place or even try to find photos, but nothing extra is given and that could be for a reason. more

Molly's Place, One Step Above a Puppy Mill 12/28/2011

We purchased a darling white toy poodle from Molly's. We were told she was less than two years old. When we took her to the Vet, we were told she was between five and eight years old. The Vet said her teeth were in terrible condition with one loose tooth and would cost around $700 to fix since she is a senior dog. He showed me the cloudiness over her eyes with the microscope. Both of these are symptoms of old age. She also had a bad ear infection. We couldn't handle all this at our age so we returned her to Mollys Place. We feel we were misrepresented and wanted our $325 back. The owner, who has a high and almighty attitude, told me to leave. This place is one step above a puppy mill. They are a money making business and have no heart when it comes to these lost creatures. more

How Rude!! 12/8/2011

I walked out of Molly's in tears! This was my second time there, and I found a dog that I would have LOVED to share my home with. The people I initially spoke with were so kind and helpful for me attempting to fill out this application. Unfortunately, after I handed in the application, the woman in her high and mighty seat behind the counter (I wonder if she ever interacts the the animals herself, or even really cares about them), badgered me so harshly about my application, interrogating me like I had committed a crime. I got so frustrated that she wasn't even listening to my responses, that I had to leave before the tears started to run down my face... not only because I was angry, but also because I wouldn't be able to be taking the dog I had selected into my home to be my forever friend. Since that experience, it doesn't surprise me that most of the dogs that were there when I went a month ago are still there. I also agree with the posts saying they were too expensive. I recently found a fully AKC registered boxer for a far less expensive price than the mixed breeds, that has also had all of the services that they say you're spending the big dollars on. For the future, you should be less rude, and maybe re-evaluate your cost structure... I'd think you'd want to make sure that these animals are getting homes. I can understand being strict about who you let take pets, but the ""director"" takes it to a nasty extreme with her condescending tone and absolutely rude and inconsiderate words. more

Nothing like it! 11/26/2011

We visitied numerous shelters and rescues before ending up at Molly's Place and we were very impressed. Their facility was very clean, the animals were friendly and the staff was so nice. There were many wonderful animals to choose from which made it hard to decide which one to pick. As it turns out, we were looking for a puppy, but ended up with an small adult that parked himself on our laps and wouldn't leave. I guess he chose us and he's turned out to be the best companion we could have imagined.. It was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend adopting a pet from Molly's Place. more

A great place to visit! 10/6/2011

I've been taking my daughter to Molly's Place since the adoption center opened. I guess you could call us ""regulars"" since we visit there quite frequently. We are not in a position to get a pet of our own, but by visiting Molly's we get to share the love and companionship of the pets for a short time and in doing so we hope to help socialize some of the shyer ones that need a little extra TLC. We've come to know the wonderful staff at Molly's who are always so pleasant and do such a great job. We never cease to be amazed at how many pets have found homes since our last visit and we find it rewarding to know that these pets have all gone on to homes of their own. Molly's Place is a special place for my daughter and I, and for all of the homeless pets who have had the good fortune of finding their way to Molly's doorstep. Keep up the great work Molly's Place and we'll be back to visit very soon and hopefully one day we'll be able to adopt a pet of our own. more

A Wonderful Experience! 10/4/2011

We drove seven hours to adopt our new family member from Molly's Place. We had never been to a shelter like this before and I don't know of any other places like this one. We loved that the animals were roaming freely and could not believe how they all got along. The place was very clean and all of the animals were well cared for. You really have to see and experience it to believe it. The staff was wonderful to work with and made the entire adoption process a very nice experience. We are so truly grateful that there is an organization like this one, who was able to rescue and take care of our precious puppy until we were able to come get her. The trip was well worth it and when the time comes we will definetely be back for our next pet. more

Amazing Rescue!!! 10/3/2011

I was completely amazed when I visited this pet rescue. The place looked immaculate and smelled clean. The staff was was so friendly and helpful. The pets were roaming about freely having the best time. The dogs were sprawled out on benches or on people's laps. Some were sleeping on blankies cuddled up together and others were running around playing. People were sitting on the floors in the kitty rooms holding and playing with them. I can't believe how all of animals get along so wonderfully and the pets are all so happy and healthy. What a great idea to have the pets in this type of environment instead of the traditional cages. Words cannot express enough how impressed I was with this place and I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a pet to go to Molly's Place. I love this concept and it was such a joy to visit and spend time at this adoption center. more

Awesome Place 5/28/2011

I have adopted from Molly's Place on 3 separate occasions and I have never had a bad experience going to mollys place. Each and every time i walk in im greeted with a smile and a load of wagging tails. My last rescue Fitzy was pointed out to me by the owner, who asked if i was up for a challenging dog. They said he was pulled from a different shelter who had deemed him to death if mollys place couldnt take him immediately. He was at Molly's for about a year and had he a lot of issues with biting. He attacked their feet when they moved behind the desk, picked up, trying to take something from him that he shouldnt have had... you name it. I hesitated at first, but the owner reassured me that if in any case i could take him home, give him a month, and if it didnt work out i could bring him back. So, thats what i did. In a normal home, he would be the worst dog anyone ever knew. He was hard to house break, he bit me and my friends, he couldnt be in a crate but HE WAS THE BEST THING I WAS EVER GIVEN IN MY WHOLE LIFE. Within a month i had gained his trust, i could touch him all-over, take anything away from him. We had bonded. 4 years later he was diagnosed with heart failure, and passed away a couple of months later. I have to thank Mollys place for their valiant effort in saving a dog deemed for death due to aggressive issues. If it wasnt for their big hearts i would have never met Fitzy. I dont look over dog who have ""issues"" anymore, because sometimes they are the greatest ones of all. Thank you Molly's Place, for giving me your worst dog and saving him from a early death. I know i will be back someday for another ""terror"" that you might have in your midst. more

Adopted Two Dogs from Mollys 5/23/2011

~I adopted My two dogs from here Last year. It is the best thing I ever did. I highly recomend Mollys to anyone who is looking to adopt. I had a wonderful experiance, and would go back when I'm looking for a new addition to my family. more

WAY TO OVER PRICED 5/19/2011

I have to agree with other people who stated their prices are through the roof. I inquired about a full-breed Dachshund and when they told me $500, I just walked out. You can get one from a breeder for that price. Yes granted they have their shots, neutered, etc., but vets give big discounts to shelters for that service & medications. I did also notice that their staff is not overly friendly and you don't feel the least bit welcome when you go in there. I do have to give them credit for their cleanliness though but that's about it. more

Excellent Organization!!!!!!!!!! 4/12/2011

People who are rating this place poorly are completely misinformed or do not understand the purpose behind this AMAZING facility. Yes, these rescue dogs are expensive and are not for everybody. If you cannot afford to pay for a dog, you should not be getting one in the first place. These dogs all have been spayed/neutered, have all the necessary INITIAL shots, and are microchipped. When taking a dog home, you still need to figure in additional vet costs, checkups, follow-up shots/etc. The cost of a rescue dog covers the initial costs, barely, and any additional money goes into helping the thousands of additional rescue dogs that this facility will find homes for in the future. These dogs are all allowed to roam free with one another and are NOT locked in cages with no socialization. The dogs are all friendly and have all the dog and people interaciton they need so they are not scared/nervous/upset when you get them home. Yes, the dogs pee/poop on the floor, but the very large staff they have clean it up within seconds. The dogs are all well cared for and every single dog we saw there seemed to be extremely happy. We just drove 6 hours to get our rescue dog from this facility because we believe in what they do and how they care for the dogs. Lastly, people on here complain about them being rude to you. If you have children, wouldnt you want them to tell you that a specific dog would not be good with kids? If you dont have a fenced in yard or live in a very small house, wouldnt you want them to tell you that the dog you want needs a ton of exercise and probably wouldnt be a good fit for you? Or if you live in an apartment and your landlord has not verified that you can have a dog, is'nt it best for the DOG that you do not take it home and have to return it after your landlord says you cannot have one?? People with poor reviews of this facility are simply upset that they were rejected a dog or were simply upset at the fact that rescue dogs are expensive. If these dogs were free, or less expensive, and if this facility did not do the excellent screening that they do, these dogs would go to the wrong home and be put right back in a shelter when they do not fit into one's lifestyle. Keep up the good work Molly's Rescue! more

Irresponsible and an Idiot 4/7/2011

In response to your fabricated tale of events, the staff at Molly's Place would like to set the record straight. You were initially approved to adopt a dog and a $100 deposit was taken. Immediately after this transaction took place it was determined that you had falsified information on your application and your deposit was promptly returned at that time. To be specific, you lied about owning your home when, in fact, you were renting. You took it upon yourself to come to Molly's Place a few days later and tried to adopt again. You were informed that you were denied due to your dishonesty on the application. You and your girlfriend became rude, obnoxious, argumentative and you were instructed to leave. The following day, your landlord stopped by to thank us for not adopting to you. Not only were you not permitted to get a dog where you were renting, but you are also apparently a dead beat tenant who fails to pay rent. While no one actually called you an ?idiot?, if the shoe fits........ more

What a terrible experience 4/6/2011

I had deposited money ($100) on a particular dog of interest. I was told that I would be contacted on Wednesday to make sure the dog was feeling better after getting spayed. I came back and had paid the rest of the payment. I was told it was going to be a half an hour until I would be good to leave. Afterwards apparently the ""owner"" said that I was denied due to her misunderstanding of my address and called me an ""idiot"", ""immature"", ""as well"" as ""non responsible"". When asking for her name she said it's time for you to leave. Other staff looked at her as if she were being extremely rude. She threatened to not refund me of my deposit as well. more

What a shame 2/2/2011

My fiance and I visited Molly's place with the intention of giving an unfortunate dog a loving home. With myself being a life long pet lover and my fiance the same, we went in prepared to leave with a new member of our family. We were initially impressed with the staff and their welcoming atmosphere of adoption candidates waiting to greet us. Unfortunately what didn't impress us was their intention to take advantage of our big hearts by trying to charge us $500 for a mixed breed dog! WOW!!!! They attempted to justify their price by stating that the dogs have their shots, are spayed/neutered and have micro-chips. The reality though is that they get those services for most likely no more than $75 dollars, so where does the remaining $425 come from? Dog food? Not unless they are getting prime rib every day for months on end! The only service they are doing is too the owner's wallet! If they would lower their prices to most legitimate rescue's and asked for $100 to $200 they would find homes for these poor animals much quicker. We walked out of there torn due to our desire to give a dog a home, and need to take a stand and not contribute to the owner taking advantage of the country wide push to influence the adoption of needy animals. I think they have the opportunity to provide a great service, but unfortunately ruin it with greed. more

The last word 12/10/2010

Reading through some of the various comments on this site, I am truly astounded at how naive and misinformed some people are about rescue work. Years ago, I was very involved with an animal rescue and although I found it extremely rewarding I eventually stopped, because it was to emotionally, physically and financially draining. I loved working with the animals, but it was the people that drove me insane. In looking through some of the reviews on this site, I can see things haven't changed much. For the person who had the entry ""Confused and Dazed"" - try a little empathy and understanding for the staff and "" the person sitting behind the desk, without a smile pasted on her face."" more

Dazed and confused - your are dazed and confused! 12/9/2010

The adoption fee for a dog is $275, which included the spay, vaccines, microchip etc. more

Confused and Dazed 11/17/2010

I saw a dog I liked on line and figured I'd like to see him. Upon entering shelter I noticed that their were several staff members cleaning up after the dogs that were roaming in the front lobby, one of which asked me to go to the front desk and speak to the manager. The manager was about a friendly as a car crash. I filled out an application and was informed that the dog I liked was not for me because I had kids. I was very OK with this and thanked her for her judgment. Then I asked her which of her dogs are good with kids. She rudely shrugged and told me to take a look. On the main floor the dogs were roaming around. A young lady came up to me and was very polite. She tried her best to answer my questions but wasn't really knowledgeable. On the way out I stopped by to ask the manager about the price of the dog and was floored. It was $650 for a rescue dog and she was rude while telling me! If you want people to adopt a pet at that price please smile a little! more

Setting Some Things Straight 8/29/2010

In the interest of full disclosure, I am an employee of Molly's Place. I come on this site every once in a while to read the reviews, and I normally see four types of reviewers. The first type consists of our supporters. We have a small army of people in our community that believe strongly in the work that we do, and they sometimes take issue with negative comments when they appear. The second group consists of people that are predisposed to dislike us. Mostly, these are the people who for one reason or another have been denied in their attempts to adopt from us. We understand their anger, but do not apologize for having high standards. Unfortunately, these people make up all kinds of terrible stories and rarely represent themselves honestly. The third group is represented recently by the woman accusing us of greed. I don't think this group is malicious in nature; rather, I think they have just drawn poor conclusions based on incomplete or mis-information. Molly's Place has higher adoption fees than most other rescue or shelter facilities. The relevant question is: Where does the money go? Let's draw a comparison with another facility, the Harrisburg Humane Society, which has lower fees. The HS has a large revenue stream in its contracts with local municipalities. Through these contracts, the HS receives money on the front end, often hundreds of dollars, for every dog that they take in. This makes it possible for them to offer very low adoption fees to the public. Molly's Place has no such front-end revenue stream, nor does it receive any government funding. We rely solely on adoption fees and donations to meet all of our monetary obligations. We have a staff of 8-10 people that supervise the dogs in our free-roaming environment and scrub our facility from top to bottom each day. I am a typical employee at Molly's Place. I've been there two years and work part-time, about 25-30 hours/week. I make $9.00/hr with no benefits. I also spend several hours of my own time each week answering emails, updating facebook, going on supply runs, picking up dogs from other shelters, and various other errands. Does this sound like greed? We also often take in injured animals, for which vet care is needed. Last month, we received two puppies with legs broken so badly that amputation was required in both cases. Just two weeks ago, we received a hound mix that was surrendered because she has a patellar problem that will require surgery. You might not have known that alot of your money goes to cases such as these. Our founder and Director has been accused of being greedy. While I will not disclose her salary, I will say that it is less than half of what her counterpart at the Harrisburg Humane Society makes. Less than half. Does this sound like the work of a greedy person? Finally, the fourth group consists of just one person...our own personal stalker, who believes that Molly's Place is to blame because her dog was diagnosed a year later with lung cancer. Don't let her screen name fool you...she is, in fact, crazy. There is no investigation regarding Molly's Place. We are regularly inspected just like any other shelter/rescue, and we pass these inspections without incident. more

I love this place!!! 8/28/2010

I was completely impressed with this adoption center. I found Molly's Place through petfinder and I decided to check it out after revieiwing their petfinder site and reading all of the happy stories written in by people who had adopted pets from this organization. more
