Extremely disappointed 3/4/2006

I asked for a subtler(visible but not punky) highlight on my black hair- wanted multitonal -which the stylist said cannot happen! She gave me a red highlight, which was tooo subtle to notice -on next appointment (nice of her) she agreed to give me an orange highlight.but there was no color at all (what a dissappointment). Instead of apologizing for it, she started accusing my hair is not taking a color. I asked her (which she should know being a hairstylist) if my hair needed a tonedown before highlighting since it is jetblack, she said 'she dosent know'. She told me she could do the highlight again but now she will charge me (for what???). Its been 7-8 days and i wash my hair twice daily and i see color coming off on my towel daily!!! What a waste of time and money. Please do not go to them. Pros: Reasonably priced, Parking, long hours Cons: Poor result, Unfriendly more

Perm Master!!!!!!! 3/4/2006

My hair is pin straight. I have been looking in all the magazines lately and everyone is wearing those big loose curls. I had a consultation with Paul, who I was told was the perm master. Well he definetly lived up to his name! I love my hair! He gave me such a great perm. The curls are perfect. On a side note. Not only did I get a great makeover I enjoyed every moment in the salon. The have a great team, who you can tell, really enjoy thier jobs. Maria, Dannielle, Cindy and Paul thank you for a great afternoon and a great new look!! WORST EVER! 1/20/2006

Bad service, bad hair cut, FRIED hair from bad haircolor. My formerly healthy, shiny, naturally curly hair is so badly damaged that it doesn't even curl anymore. It just lies there limply like a hideous cheap wig. I have to cut knots out of it nearly every day because it is sticky like cotton candy. When I called to complain the owner stopped me and told me that he knew, he had had a lot of complaints about the colorist... So why let her continue to RUIN people's hair?! I wish that I had read the CItysearch reviews so I could have avoided making the worst hair mistake of my life. The sooner this hack goes out of business, the better. Excellent 1/19/2006

I would highly recommend Jimi James. I'm thrilled with my color and cut. In addition, the atmosphere is very positive, which is just as important to me. The staff is warm and friendly, very attentive. They all seem to really enjoy what they do and enjoy working with each other and it shows (on me!). more

Jimi James fixed my ugly hair 1/18/2006

Heres a scenario for all of you reading this: hair looks and feels like blackish/ brownish shoe polish and it is the weekend of you meeting your fiancees parents for the first time. I called Jimi James on a Friday afternoon, frantic, begging to get in for a color correction. The girl who answered the phone called Jimi over to hear my story. I needed to come in on Saturday mid afternoon. Jimi said sure, come on in, but there might be a slight traffic jam in the store. The next day, I was in Jimis chair. He was juggling me and another girl but I felt like my hair was more important to Him than to me !! After about a couple of hours I was a chocolate brown with caramel highlights and shiny, vibrant hair. He now has a client for life. Pros: Shiny, Healthy, Vibrant Hair, Willing to Please more

a WONDERFUL salon experience... finally! 1/15/2006

Jimi James' Salon works miracles. I have probably the worst hair ever to work with (crazy curly, frizzy, just plain unmanageable) and I've never had a hair cut that has actually worked for me. Cindy was amazing and listened to exactly what I wanted. I left the salon feeling like I had an actual ""hair style"" for the first time ever! I definitely recommend Jimi James to anyone who has strugged to find an excellent hair salon -- this is it! Pros: experienced, friendly, fair pricing more

I Love this place!!! 1/13/2006

Found Jimi through Citysearch and am so glad that I did! Been there twice now and I LOVE it! First time, Jimi cut and full highlighted my hair. It looked great! Knew exactly what color I wanted and did an amazing color job, followed up with a wonderful haircut. Second time was 2 days ago and I can't belive how good my hair looks. Even though I booked the appt for another full highlight (since it's been almost half a year since my last), Jimi told me that I only needed a partial. Saved me lots of money and he was right! Color looks great again and my haircut this time is especially perfect. He gave me bangs which look great! Jimi and his staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is beautiful. Pros: expertise, friendly, perfect! Cons: none!!! more

Best Salon in the Northeast!!!! 1/12/2006

I visited Jimi James in November, while visitiing my hometown of Boston. I went in with terrible, fading, blonde highlights (that I actually got at a top NYC salon). I got a semi permanent, partial highlight, and gloss w/ Jessica (for a 1/4 of what I paid in both NYC and Newbury St. salons.) And it was the best I've ever received! I will never trust another salon with my hair again! I felt like I knew the staff for decades. Its a team effort at the salon as well...For instance, the girl sitting next to me got highlights & cut from Jimi. She wanted wispy bangs, so Jimi called over a stylist who is famous for her wispy bangs. In terms of stylists, chose whoever, as they are all incredible. I wish this salon the best of luck, I hope its around for centuries. Pros: price , friendly staff, skilled staff Cons: NONE!!! more

This was the WORST hair color EVER! 1/11/2006

I looked like a two-toned purple zebra when i left this salon. the service was lousy. The stylist was unfriendly. The color was HIDEOUS! Plus the $30 ""Shine"" left my hair feeling like straw. It was so bad that you could not pay me to go back there. I would rather buy a box at the convienence store to fix it, which is what I ended up doing, and had much better results. more

The most horrible service I have ever recieved 1/10/2006

The staff was rude, my appt. was cancelled on me with out notification until I showed up to be told the manager himself (who was to do my hair)was not working the evening and my apt. was canceled. And they have the nerve to email their client list, even ones they have mis treated, and asked them to vote them best salon on citysearch......I vote them WORSET salon! Do not waste your time and money here. more

I started going to Jimi James when I had a hair emergency. I got his name off the web site,called and he gave me the best cut and color I've had in over 15 years!!! I get so many compliments on the style and color. Two of my girlfriends started going. more

I tried this salon and was complete disappointed with the service and treatment I received from the manager. She was rude, discourteous and unfriendly. I was made to wait longer than expected for a cut and color and the girl who finally did it did a horrible job! I will never return to this place, don't risk it! Nightmare 1/4/2006

HORRIBLE. JUST HORRIBLE. DON'T LET ""BEST OF BOSTON"" WORDING FOOL YOU. STAFF VERY DISAPPOINTING. GETTING MY HAIR WASHED WAS A NIGHTMARE. WATER SPRAYING ALL OVER THE PLACE, AND I MEAN THAT LITERALLY. DID NOT RECEIVE HAIR COLOR I ASKED FOR. STAFF WALK AROUND DOING EACH OTHER'S HAIR WHILE YOU SIT AND WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT. DON'T JUDGE A SALON BY IT""S COVER 12/27/2005

I am obsessive about my hair and I'm pretty sure I have been to every salon on Newbury Street. The whole Jimi James experienced taught me that there are rare cases in which a salon's asthetics does not dictate it's service. Cindy, who did my color, fixed the longlasting mistakes of hairdressers who charged about 3 times more! She worked with my color until she got it just right and never made me feel like I was overstaying my welcome. She even stayed late to close the store alone so that I would leave happy. I have always been a design snob and am immediately turned off by places that don't look a certain way. In this case, money saved on real estate, advertising, marketing and decor is reflected in the low price, and combined with the high quality of the service I have learned that looks don't always matter. Platnium Blonde 12/21/2005

My hair was absolutely ruined by another salon who refused to fix the mistake because it would take too long. I finally ended up at Jimi James , in CIndy's chair. SHe listened to me and understoon my frustration. She started her magic: coloring the roots and then foliing the ends to match them. Finally she applied my dream toner to my hair. Thanks to her, I am now a platnium blonde. This is my official thanks to her. Pros: great listener, awesome color, awesome color more

Be prepared to show up on time for your appointment, and still be forced to wait at least 20-30+ minutes before work is started on your hair. Even when you finally do take a seat in the chair, you'll be among at least 2 or 3 other customers having your hair done at the same time by the same stylist. Or better yet, you may show up for your appointment and find out your stylist cancelled on you (for 15th time) yet didn't have the decency to call and let you know (yes, they let you drive all the way out there only to find out you won't be having an appointment). Rushed haircut? Yes. Horrible customer service? Yes. And is your haircut what you wanted? No. However, don't be surprised if it's not what you want, but Jimi thinks it's the best... Boston's best hair color.... and DIAMONDS!!! 12/4/2005

What an unusual and fun atmosphere to have your hair done!! This place is packed non-stop! Tons of energy! Jimi James is a trip... and ladies, there' a really nice JEWELRY BOUTIQUE in the back. They actually encourage you to go back there with your smock on and foil in your hair. The two guys in the Jewelry Store are really laid back, friendly and very knowledgeable. Best of all, they will let you try on anything. Get your hair done and pick out your engagement ring while the color sets!! WOW Pros: Fun, Great Hair Color, JEWELRY STORE! Not satisfied 11/30/2005

I got my color at this salon to fix the color from Vidal. The place was very slow, even though I mentioned that I had to be somewhere on time afterwards. The colorist had no suggestions, seemed to lack interest and expertise, and kept helping other clients while I was waiting. The color came out just ok, but the price tag was hefty. I will not return. The services are cheap, but at what cost? 11/29/2005

Initially it seemed as though it might be possible to get high end service at a fraction of the cost in Boston. But too soon the old adage ""you get what you pay for"" came painfully true. Quality and accuracy aren't their forte. Waits are a minimum of 20 min to start, & Jimi is almost certain to leave you half done for at least another 15 min while he works on other customers who were booked at the same time (Jimi will clearly be rushing through your service). After all that, getting the result you described in detail isn't even that likely. Of the 5 or 6 times I went, only on the first 2 occassions was it close to my clear requests. Save yourself the time, gas money, frustration and spend a little more at a place with more competence and more concern for their customer's satisfaction. Pros: Cheap Cons: LONG waits, Poor Service, Questionable Results more
