Affordable, Relaxed, Skilled, Hole-in-the-Wall 11/17/2005

I was expecting a place that was more posh and upscale, but this looked just like a nice local shop. Cute, and not what I was expecting. The appointment took longer than I was expecting: 3 hours for partial highlights/lowlights and a cut, but it was fun. Jimi was around and very chatty. I liked the relaxed nature of the place. One reviewer said this place was disorganized. I see a definite ADD-ish vibe, but organized isn't really my criteria for a salon. Instead, I'm wondering (1) if my hair will look good, and (2) if it's a decent place to spend a few hours. I'd say YES on both counts. The color and cut look good. Jessica both listened AND was willing to make suggestions. And the 3-color partial highlight/lowlight + cut extravaganza ran me $98. Not too shabby! I'll be back. Always great for color, not so much for haircuts 11/3/2005

I would definitely recommend Jimi James for color--they did a wonderful job with my hair. I wouldn't go back for a haircut, however, because even though I was clear on what I wanted, the stylist took way too much hair off. I now need to have it fixed somewhere else. The cut was also not very good. They may be great with cuts as long as they are paying attention to what you are asking for. The location is also cold (they often keep the door open), so wear something warm, especially since your hair will be wet. The wait can be a few minutes, particularly if you are having more than one service. Otherwise, the people are all friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Beautiful Wedding hair thanks to Jimi James Salon 10/31/2005

I was just married this past week and went to Jimi James to have my hair done with my bridemaids and mother. And all i can say is WOW! Our hair was gorgeous, the 2 stylist (Sidny and Cristle??) were amazing, friendly and super helpful. They even gave us free hair spray to keep our looks just as stunning as they did at the salon. Wonderful Experience! 10/26/2005

Jimi James is a great salon. After being disappointed with the usual Newbury Street garbage, this salon is a breath of fresh air. It is very easy to find with plenty of parking. I was early for an appointment with Cindy. She took me right away, gave me a consultation and then got started. Everyone was friendly. My color came out great. Got the shine treatment that everyone raves about My hair did look a little shiny afterward but didn't notice much of a difference. My haircut came out ok. I think their specialty is color and not so much on style, but I was pleased with my hair and I thought it looked 100% better than if I had gone to one of the snobby shops on Newbury Street, and the price was fabulous. Disapointment is on the menu at Jimi James 10/19/2005

This salon is like the guy at work you try really hard to like, but just can't. This salon is that person whose potential you can see, but they can't seem to reach. The combination of disorder & disorganization, overbooking, poor customer service to the point of that it seems as if they have no desire for your business, and an inability to follow directions during the actual cut combine to make the skill of the stylists irrelevant. All of this becomes even more frustrating when you realize that the people working there are talented and could do a decent job if only there was a little more organization, a little more caring, and a little more attention to detail. dissapointing to say the least 10/15/2005

loved my stylist - Jennifer - but they had her completely overbooked, and for a color that should have taken an hour, I was in the salon for alomost three. I had to be rescheduled to come back in so that she could finish at a later date... Jennifer was great, but the salon is obviously going through some rough times ownership/management wise. I would love to say that it deserves that 9.7 rating, but from my experience, it clearly is nowhere near it... Jimi is by far the best stylist in the area. I used to go to a Cambridge salon that did good work, but was way overpriced. Tired of getting a cut and highlight and dropping nearly $200, I went online and found people raving about Jimi. I had to try him out. As soon as I sat down in the chair, he listened to what I wanted, gave me some great ideas, and proceeded to give me a fantastic haircut. My next trip was for color, and he did a great job. Best part is - my cuts stay fresh and bouncy weeks after visiting, and I've never had the awkward hair stage since Jimi's been cutting my hair. I've sent a few friends his way and they've been happy as well. As long as he's in the area, he's got me as a customer. Thanks Jimi! Pros: Great communication, Excellent prices, Great service! Instant Connection 6/6/2005

This salon was just as everyone had said, fabulous! This cute little salon just over the Watertown line into Newton was an easy place to get to. The staff was friendly, warm and helpful. Jimi almost immediately cheerfully greeted me wanting to know what I was going to have done. He even had me shake my head around to find out where my natural part line was while I was sitting waiting, a mini consultation. He was full of energy and knew what he was talking about. Cindy, my new hair stylist...cut my hair exactly how I wanted it. This has never happened before. I'm already going back for to try out the color services less than a week later! I Highly Recommend Jimi James and his entire Salon. Jimi James is a perfectionist and the staff are very nice from the minute I came in to the minute I left. I was a color correction from a Newbury street Salon That need to get my hair fixed quick I called and got in in one day... Jimi James did My consult and new just what to do to fix my hair that was a lovely shade of orange. Jessica Did my color correction and she was a total doll. My Hair looks and feels Great... Jimi James saved my hair color and highlights after visting a big Boston salon and felling like I robbed for $325 dollars I promised not to go back for hair color that never comes out the way I want it to. I found Jimi James on City Search and when I saw all Jimi's before and afters on his web site I new He was the one for me... I went to Jimi James yesterday for the first time. I walked in the door and was asked right away Are you Jessica? Welcome The receptionist said with a warm smile. I was Amazed no attitude ... I am in Hair Salon Heaven!!! Next to me was a local Boston news reporter with foils in her head She asked.. Is this your fist time here? She told me she has been with Jimi for 5 years now and is still amazed with the way he treats his clients Like family. Jimi and I talk about my hair color and then I showed him a picture of what I wanted. He said no problem And did it. My hair color came out GREAT! The highlight looked just like the picture. Best Hair color & Highligts !! 3/17/2005

Jimi James is The best boston hair colorist ever. I am so impressed with my hair color and the way my hair feels. My highlights gleam like strads of gold! The salon has a great small neighborhood feeling but has high fashion hair color being done all day long. I LOVE JIMI JAMES!!!!! I was amazed how I was treated by everyone THEY ARE ALL SO NICE.. A client for life! 3/17/2005

After spending so much money for foils that weren't done very well on a constant basis- i decided to see what Jimi James & Co. could do for me. Let's just say that Maureen has a client for life!!! She was methodical with her foiling technique! She doesn't just ""slap them in"" like other salons had done on me. Newbury Street was a disappointment - no one on that street ever got as close with foils as Maureen did on me. And Maureen was able to get rid of the brassy color that my last stylist left for me. I am so glad that I found Jimi James!!! Pros: Artistry!, Value!, No attitude! Cons: none! more

Jimi James definitely knows his stuff!!! 3/10/2005

When I went to see Jimi James for the first time about a month ago, he knew just what to do in order to correct my hair color...I tried going blonde for the first time all over (I normally just get highlights), and the color was terrible (let's just say it was almost an orange hue...). He softened the color by adding in ashe blonde highlights. After I left his salon, I no longer had to wear a hat 24-7 in order to hide my hair color! He is dying to do my hair again since he knows what color hue I'm trying to achieve. I fully trust his expertise 100%, and I've already booked my next appointment with him! I can now say that Jimi James is my new expert hair colorist! I highly recommend him to anyone... Pros: Reasonable prices, ample parking, great attitude more

California hair in Boston 3/10/2005

I moved to NH from San Francisco 13 years ago and have been to dozens of colorists (including Aveda) and a few in Boston area; my hair was dull and toxic and I was badly in need of a proper haircut. I was so desperate I was about to give up and start flying out to the west coast to get my haircolor and highlights done when I found Jimi's website. (He designed that, too!) He immediately cut my hair to suit my face and I now have shiny, healthy-looking fantastic hair that I just love. Jimi is the Best on the East coast. When I came to see Jimi for the first time, I needed a full color correction to get the look I desired. Up until then, I had seen approximately 15 hairstylists and noone would touch it! Needless to say, I was frustrated and didn't have high expectations for my visit. Boy was I wrong! Jimi James did EXACTLY what I wanted, without a hassle! Now I'm in that chair every 4 weeks for my fabulous double process blonde! I'm sold! Here's the best part: No Newbury Street attitude! Jimi keeps things fun, and won't pressure you into services or products you don't need. His prices are fair, and he does what YOU want. All this, and he's open until 10 pm some nights!
