I have been a client of Jimi's now for nearly 4 years and cannot express how much I love my hair each and every time I leave the salon. Jimi is simply gifted. He has an eye for color and knows how to cut hair!\r \r I cannot say enough about my consistent positive results and experiences with Jimi. I have been to far too many hair salons who have 5 stars by their name but were huge disappointments.\r \r Jimi holds true to his name and his reputation. His color is truly amazing. I walked into the salon with hair half down my back. It hadn't been cut in six months and after several home dye jobs had turned out three different colors. I walked out with a gorgeous caramel brown and a sophisticated cut with awesome layers and cute bangs. That pretty much says it all. Jimi is awesome at what he does and he makes going to the salon a perfect primping experience. He's ultra friendly and into style. I have had Jimi James cut my hair when it was long, short, and everything in between and I've loved it every time! He has colored it, glazed it, and given me bangs. I haven't been disappointed yet! I have wavy hair and completely trust Jimi to cut it just the right way for my hair texture and face structure. If you're looking for a new stylist, I highly recommend you give Jimi James a call. Jimi James is fantastic. Called up Saturday afternoon looking to get a cut & color for me and a friend, and he fit us in the same day. He takes great care of you, and makes sure YOU are happy with everything. Fabulous coloring skills as well as cut & style. I also got the fastest two-color foil ever - not to say that the result was anything less than perfect and just what I wanted. Very reasonable pricing, and you won't find a friendlier stylist. There's a reason he has a loyal clientele - and keeps on getting new ones! Pros: Cut, color, style, listening to the client and what they want Cons: None - everything was great! more

My first ever appointment was with Jimi James but I could not make it...I made a new appointment and was put with Theresa and I LOVE MY HAIR. Theresa fixed my overly Blonde hair and made it a soft darker Blonde with great highlights and the shine treatment I've never had so much shine in my hair. I love the way Theresa and Jimi work as team you would think with two great color experts in the same Salon there would be cat fights but no you get two GREAT COLORISTS IN THE SAME SALON I am so lucky AND YOU WILL BE TO!!!\r \r Thanks Theresa You saved my hair Pros: Theresa, Jimi James, Parking Cons: none that i can think of more

I moved back to Boston after 3 years and found myself looking for Jimi James to do my hair. He had did my highlights for the six years I was here in Boston. I found him even better then I remembered him. First he remembered my name I was shocked. He also remembered how I like my highlights to look. So you know my hair came out just as good as he's always done it. I also introduced Jimi to his newest client my new 18 month old Molly. Jimi Did her fist non tantrum trim. Jimi is a wonderful guy, conversation is great, he DOES care about his clients. But, in a nutshell, he can't cut hair. I got the worst cut of my life, honestly. I wish I could put up my ""before and after"" on his site, as it would do my review justice. To add insult to injury, I paid over $340 for highlights that matched my haircolor, and a cut. Pros: Conversation is always great Cons: Terrible cuts that are overpriced. more

I first started going to Jimi James when he had his shop in Newton. I have long hair and have had some real bad experiences with hair stylists in the highlighting area. So I have become super picky about who I will let touch my hair. Well after I found Jimi I was hooked. I have tried other stylists but, nothing was as good. He is the best stylist I have had to do my long hair. When he left the shop in Newton to move to work out of Watertown I followed him to that shop. I never use to like my hair as much as I do right after I get my highlights revamped by Jimi. Now rarely you may have to wait to get in for an appointment or wait a little longer to get your hair done but, hey it is worth it to get the best of the best highlights done to you hair especially if you are super picky and have long hair like I do. Why would you settle for less and go get some rush job done that your just going to have to have fixed in the future. more

Like many others, I found Jimi James on his web page and was encouraged by the before and after photos. For a while I thought that he was great and was happy with my hair color and cut. BUT THAT ALL CHANGED WHEN HE PURCHASED HIS OWN SALON! It started when he double booked his time and was running back and forth between doing colors for two people. That day I was told that there wasn't enough time to do all of my foils and that only 1/2 head could be done and that he would make it look good and would reschedule me for another day. It ended up looking bad but I had no choice but to reschedule because he had to leave the salon for another appointment. We rescheduled for 1 week away - which was the next time he was available for me!!! Can you believe it?? But wait, that isn't all... I went to the salon for that appointment and found out that he didn't come in that day and wouldn't be able to do my hair. He didn't even have the courtesy to cancel my appointment. I was lucky that another colorist in his salon was nice enough to squeeze me into her schedule. I know that it was hard for her to do but she made it work and completely fixed my hair color. Thank God that he hired a good colorist that was willing to fix my hair when he wasn't willing/able to do so. Jimi has since moved his salon to a new location in Watertown. I highly recommend that you AVOID JIMI JAMES. He is overpriced and changes his prices every time you go to visit him (HIGHER prices of course). I also recommend that you visit his old location in Newton where his old people have a salon now. They are great and they have to be the reason for all of his good past reviews. I'd give their information out but don't want to seem like an advertisement for them. STAY AWAY FROM JIMI JAMES-Sometimes he is good for the short term but if you stick around you'll find out his true colors... I did and hope to spare others from the misery. Moving is stressful... trying to get settled and establish routines, making new friends and finding a new hairdresser. I went to a ""Best of Boston Salon"" and THANK GOD my hair was Canary YELLOW, and horrible, otherwise I would not have had the pleasure of meeting Jimi James. Where can I begin???? First of all his website is INCREDBLE, actual before and after photos of REAL PEOPLE - who does that???? That had me first off, then the notation that he will make emergency hair appointments at the salon or in your home - well I took a chance and wrote him an email. Only a few hours later my phone rings and it's Jimi James who was personal and immediately interested in helping me out. I got in that SAME DAY, his day off - Monday, the day when most salons are closed and I still can't get over how incredible my hair is!! Jimi James miraculously put my hair back to a beautiful sandy blonde - he was so much fun and unbelieveable FAST!!! What a rare find in Watertown, MA of all places!!! Like I said, it is really hard to move to this area and not know anyone, try and find a salon and go on the reviews or awards of what you search out on the interent. As a relocated person to the area, I really don't understand how the Best of Boston works, but I would definitely beg to differ and nominate Jimi James and his incredible talent!! People should be lining up around the block to have this man do their hair!!! Pros: Too many to list - find out for yourself!!! more

I went to Jimi after doing research on the top colorists in Boston. There are so many people to see and places to go, but I made the right decision by going to Jimi. From the second he returned my call, I knew I would love him. He is so welcoming and has such a great personality that I feel I have found a friend as well as a stylist. He was honest about what he thought would work as far as cut and color and he was 100% right. He is not pushy at all and you will have a wonderful experience in his chair. I went to Jimi after breaking up with my last colorist and I have never been happier. \r Jimi gave me the color hair I was supposed to have been born with. \r He listened to what I like and don't like and told me the truth of what can be done. \r He also cut my hair how I always wanted it but other stylist always said that my hair needed to be shorter since it was fine- Jimi was right and they were all wrong!!! \r It is longer, healthier and more full than it ever has been. \r Yesterday I was told by a co-worker that I haven't had a bad hair day since I went to Jimi. I have been going to Jimi James for over a year now, starting with his salon in Newton I had some wonderful experiences with Jimi and one of his stylists Crystal. However on my last two returns as the salon was changing hands it was a nightmare! I was so disappointed. I did not know where to go or who to trust with my hair (as I am very very picky)... and then I hopped here on city search and saw that Jimi was back in business in Watertown, so I made the call. Sure enough he remembered me and I was greeted with his spectacular personality when I called! I had not let anyone touch my hair in over 3 months and Jimi did wonders with it!!! I have not had a hair cut like the one he gave me EVER! And it looks SPECTACULAR!!!! The salon he has joined with everyone is so nice and makes you feel right at home. I am here to attest to the fact that Jimi James is a REAL miracle worker!!! After selling his salon and relocating to Watertown, Jimi is more than ever committed to hair and especially your needs. As soon as I walked it, Jimi was an absolute doll, taking me in right away and offering me his advice. He got straight to work on my color (which is fabulous btw!) followed by a Shine treatment (really worth it!). My hair was really long and pin straight and told him exactly how I wanted it. He gave me his suggestions and although I was a little nervous that we decided on cutting 4 1/2 inches off, I trusted that he would do a superb job. AND HE DID!! With his expertise, he was able to chop off the dead weight I was carrying and give me the body and layers I've always wanted. I am absolutely in LOVE with it!!!!! I walked into work this morning and everyone was ranting and raving about it. If you want a professional, fabulous, award winning look at a fraction of the cost, go see Jimi!!! I usually don't complain but I feel the need to say something. My first clue should have been the bad reviews on city search but after seeing the before and afters on his website I really wanted to give him a try. I wish I had listened to the other reviews. I spent a fortune for Jimi to give me a look that wasn't even close to what I wanted. Luckily I went back to his old salon and the girls there fixed everthing for me. I don't want to make accusations but I got a bad vibe 30 seconds after meeting him. I should have trusted my instinct and got out of the chair and walked out the door. Jimi was not in his right mind he was swetting, just all over the place. Do yourself a favor and dont waste your time with Jimi James. Cons: overall just bad more

Used to be my favorite salon. Jimi sold his salon and his services have really gone downhill. My last haircut was a total disaster. I got about 4 inches cut off and Jimi did such an uneven job that I had to go to a new salon the next day and get it fixed (to the tune of $70). Nothing like paying twice for a haircut! The guy who cut it wanted to take digital pictures because he couldn't belive how bad of a haircut I had received from Jimi! Jimi was completely stressed out and was a mess the day he cut my hair. The highlighting was good as always, but I would never allow him to touch my hair again. Pros: nice guy Cons: horrible cut, stressed out more

I came in this afternoon for an appointment with Jimi. He overbooked himself and passed me onto Danielle. I sat down with Jimi, he and I went over was I looking for and then by the time I got to the next stylist, she self admittedly wasnt positive what my hair looked like when I got there. I sat around with a soaking wet head, just to have my hair cut 4 inches when I specifically asked to have just the dead ends removed and the bottom even. I had requested my hair be blown straight same request I made when I booked the appointment. Instead, the stylist ripped through my hair, very quickly and hardly straightened it. I asked her to at least flat iron it and she looked at me and said, I dont have time. I paid $65 for a bad cut and painful blow dry. more

I specifically stated that I wanted my darkening blonde hair to be a ""light golden blonde"" and made it very clear that I did NOT want my hair to look ashy. Well, my hair came out the ashiest shade of blonde ever! Also, I asked to not cut my bangs too short, well my bangs came out too short and crooked! Afterwards, I spoke with Jimi, who tried to convince me that my hair came out a beautiful shade of blonde! He said that my hair was ""damaged"" when I came in. If so, then why didn't he or the stylist mention this when I asked for light blonde? I found it ironic that while I was getting my hair done, Jimi was saying that he was NOT going to refund another customer's money who was also unhappy with her color! A few months ago I went to this salon and was thrilled with the result. When I called to make another appointment, my stylist had left and I was offered the services of another senior stylist. When I got there, the stylist assured me that my color formula was in the computer, but my hair came out a lot more red especially at the roots although I had specifically asked to have the red toned down. Then, after my ""1-inch trim"", my shoulder length hair is now at my ear lobes!!!! When I expressed dismay, the stylist commented that I could wait longer between haircuts!!? Last but not least, I found stains from the hair color down the back of my shirt when I got home. more
