Everything Great 4/4/2008

I dont care what anybody says this is the best Pizza I ever had, it was very tasty. Service was great I even remember her name was Sofia she was from Republic of Georgia, it was funny how she repeated NOT THE STATE but Republig of Georgia, Sweet girl.... Pros: Best Pizza Cons: Best Service more

BAD PIZZA & TOURIST TRAP 4/2/2008

I agree with most of the other reviewers---this place is way over hyped by them and some misdirected members of the press. I live in Manhattan and took my visiting brother there last night. We ate BELOW AVERAGE pizza, the place was tackily decorated and appeared to be full of tourists who had presumably been lured by the extravagant praise touted. Please avoid. Much better places to go for genuine, quality pizza: Serafina's uptown or downtown. What a disappointment!! Pros: none! Cons: tasteless, bland, soggy pizza, tacky ambience more

Margarita is good but adding toppings equals soggy pie 3/20/2008

I had stopped by Lombardi's for years and loved the pizza. Since the spot was renovated and went mainstream due to national coverage (i.e. food network), the ingredients taste different. One topping (sausage) in particular has changed for the worse. In addition, the sauce is not as flavorful as I remembered. Pros: Margarita, Clam, White Cons: Toppings, Price, Sauce more

Best on the Planey?? The zagat's must have been sick when they visited!!!!!! 3/11/2008

The Best Pizza on the planet?????? The zagat's must have had a cold that day and their taste buds impaired. The pizza was soggy and dry at the same time, I guess their is some talent there. I think New York pizza is some of the best in the world, however Lombardi's of new are not helping with that reputation. They are clearly living off of past reputation. The pizza is a 4 on a scale of 1-10. I only ate the pizza because it cost me an arm and a leg, besides I am from Philadelphia and did not know where the closest Mcdonald's was. Pros: Other Pizza joints Close Cons: Just about everythin more

POOR SERVICE - BEST PIZZA 3/7/2008

I eat here with my wife about once a month sometimes alone or with friends and family. Each time it never fails, the service is very poor. No one wants to wait 20mins for thier order or thier change. Many times I've seen other people arrive after us and have thier order taken first. Once I asked a waitress can we place our order with you, she said you have to wait for your waitress, I'll let her know your ready. I asked for fresh garlic which the menu says ""ask for our fresh gralic"". I ate 2 slices before the garlic was brought to me. The only reason we return is because the Pizza is OUTSTANDING! THE BEST PIZZA EVER. If they could only get waitresses and busboys with real people skills this would be the perfect establishment. The menu actually says they dont accept CC, also they have 2 ATMs on site. Pros: PIZZA IS THE BEST!!!!! Cons: SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE! more

Not impressed 2/1/2008

My boyfriend and I shared a small ""original"" pizza here last night. The original is a simple cheese pie with shreds of basil scattered on each slice. The crust was tasty but became soggy after a few minutes, and the sauce was so sweet I had to give each slice a liberal sprinkling of salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Definitely not the best pizza ever. The service was attentive, but that's about all I'd recommend here. Worst of all, the ambience reminded me of a chain restaurant like TGI Friday's. more

Worst Experience At A NY Restaurant Ever. 2/1/2008

I went to Lombardi's when a few friends came to visit and it was the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I have worked as a server in many restaurants and am absolutely horrified by how we were treated. Pros: We didn't even get to experience any. I guess that it is not a far walk from other restaurants? Cons: HORRIBLE service. more

Teens rate Lombardi's the best! 12/7/2007

I recently took a group of 39 high school art students to NYC, and promised them the best pizza they'd ever tasted. Not only did Lombardi's make good on my promise, but they seated us and treated us like we were very welcome guests. The waiters served us with big smiles and were extremely efficient. [ Not to mention, they were also extremely cute! ] My Italian husband even commented that he had not tasted pizza that good since Italy. The kids said the pizza was ""totally awesome"" and can't wait to go back in the spring. Thank you, Lombardi's for your wonderful, friendly service, and great food. Pros: Friendly staff, great food. Cons: Lights could be dimmer? more

Best Pizza Anywhere 11/28/2007

In Feb 2007, while on a weekend visit to NYC, my friends and I went to Lombardi's for the first time. We waited at the bar for about 15 minutes before we were seated but the wait was well worth it. I ordered the Gennaro's original with fresh mozzarella, tomato sauce and basil. After my first taste I proclaimed that this is pizza at its best: thin crust, incredible sauce with fresh tomato flavor and gobs of soft mozzarella cheese. Pros: Fantastic Pizza, fast and courteous service, near subway station Cons: May have to wait for that fantastic pizza more

Lombardi's is the best! 11/2/2007

Best pizza and true authentic New York atmosphere. The staff is always extremely accomodating and pleasant. Wonderful!! Pros: Delicious Pizza, Fabulous Staff, Cute Waiters, Quick Service Cons: they only take cash but there is an ATM more

Great Experience! Overrated Pizza! 10/24/2007

I came here one night w/ friends. There was a 40 min wait---so im expecting ""out of this world"" pizza. The atmosphere was awesome---sitting in an ol a** pizzeria in NYC. We ordered a meat pizza and a plain pizza---honestly---it's taste like any regular pizza place out in Jerzee. Crust was ok---sauce was iffy---cheese were---hmmmm----nah. One time is good enuff for me. Pros: Ambience, staff, friends around me Cons: Avg pizza and price more

Pizza that lives up to its reputation as America's First Pizzeria! 10/2/2007

Lombardi's is authentic! My husband and I live in southeast Texas and were only in NYC for a few hours yesterday (yes, just a few hours) and wanted to eat supper in Manhattan--preferably classic, NY-style pizza. We started walking up from the tip of lower Manhattan at Battery Park and stopped a NYC officer and asked his opinion. He told us about Lombardi's unique and special-tasting pizzas and how it was the first pizzeria in America. Well,...we knew we had found the kind of advice we were looking for to experience a great, NYC pizza. It was well worth the walk up to Little Italy because Lombardi's did not disappoint. The host was very friendly and seated us immediately (about 6 pm on a Mon. night), our waiter was pleasant, and our excellent Italian sausage and pepperoni pizza was served to us very fast and very fresh. We ate it with delight enjoying the savory tomato sauce, appetizing cheese, and flavorful meats. They were generous with all portions of ingredients (sauce, cheese, meats)...no cutting corners here. You can enjoy a Brooklyn Lager or ice-cold Coca-Cola (as we did), and your beverage will nicely compliment this one-of-a-kind pizza. Whether you're from one of the 49 states not priveleged enough to have Lombardi's at your backdoor or a true New Yorker through and through, either way, Lombardi's is the place for award-winning pizza. As far as pizzerias go, Lombardi's was the first and will outlast the rest. Do your tastebuds a favor and get on over to the corner of Mott and Spring and see for yourself!! Pros: Pizza that makes your tastebuds say, ""Thank you!"" Cons: Cash only (but they have an ATM...and, it's well worth it...leave the plastic at home for this delight) more

I guess it's hard to live up to a reputation this big. 9/16/2007

Overpriced average pizza. Pretty much everything was average except the house wine and the price. Doubt I would go back again. more

First Off I Gotta Say This, 9/7/2007

I don't care what anyone says good or bad about this place. Before I had been to Lombardi's my perception of pizza was skewed. Here is why - I live on the West Coast. Has the West Coast even heard of pizza? NO. Lombardi's showed me how pizza should be. I think this place is on the ball, great ambiance, pizzas are piping hot, fresh and fast with only the finest ingredients. Let me tell you something, I have been here three times and I only have been to New York twice... once for one day (yeah, I know - one day??) and then another time for a week. I ate here three times and I loved it. If you like thin crust Italian pizza, there here you go. If you like fast foot greasy give me a heart attack please now pizza. I can't help you... and I hope you wake up from your disillusion towards pizza soon. I don't have time for it. Pros: Great pizza, executed perfectly. Yeah thumbs up quit asking. Cons: That I won't allow myself to eat three pizzas at once because it's good enough where I'd like too. But that's rediculous to actually do. more

Great Pizza!!! 9/4/2007

If you are in NY, you HAVE to eat here! I ate here a couple of days ago, had the meatball pizza and after a couple of bites dicided to remove the meatballs and eat it plain, the thin crust, fresh melted mozzarella and the awesom sauce (you know it's 100% tomatoes with little more) does not need any topping, just perfect! Plus it's the first recognized pizza restaurant in the USA, now that is the original. Pros: Pizza how it's meant to be!, worth the waiting Cons: long waitting for a table (30 + minutes) more
