Lombardi's: The first and the best 5/2/2007

The best pizza I have ever had! I have been to all the other ""famous"" pizza places in NYC and Chicago, which all have good pizza, but none at as good as Lombardi's. The first and the best! Pros: The pizza and the pizza oven from 1905 more

yum... blah 4/28/2007

i read about lombardis and i really wanted to go see ""Americas first pizzeria"" when i arrived the host told me that i had to wait because he had to check for a table.. i was ok with it because it was his job. what was wierd was that ALL the tables were open, anyhow i had a waitress who i think said... ""welcome to lombardis can i get you started on your drinks are you ready to order?"" you would think after waiting 15 minuted for her to notice us the questions were just dumb. i can not remember my waitress except for the fact that she had dirty blond hair... anyhow she took our order: i order a italian soda that was delish and my boyfriend had a beer served on a hot glass..when i asked another waitress if she could change the beer she took it but didnt bring it back... the bread sticks were hard and didnt have flavor. Now the pizza was a dream come true... it was all done to perfection... when we were done eating, we wanted some coffee but my waitress was no where to be found but the bussboy gave us our drinks...the waitess came by and asked if everything was ok and gave us the check were she charged us for the beer and she after ten minutes she tells us that lombardis doesnt accept credit cards... anyhow we pulled cash out but it took her another ten minutes to bring us change... i gave her a $3 tip since she didnt do much. overall i think the ONLY good thing about lombardis was the pizza, other than that it was BLAH Pros: the pizza Cons: everything else more

Best Pizza and Best Service! 3/28/2007

This is how pizza is supposed to taste, not salty yellow mozzarella, but creamy white fresh mozz. Fresh herbs with roasted red peppers, wild mushrooms, and a sauce to bring them all together. Fantastic, I'm sure your favorite pizza toppings are equally delectable atop a Lombardi's. We got 6 breadsticks with sauce, for 2, and only ate 2 before the 'za arrived, then we savored our 3 slices each. more

Not the best pizza on the planet 2/19/2007

I went there with my girlfriend, left feeling very disappointed . The wait was not so bad, but the pizza was not better than in any electric oven pizzeria in New York. The crust was very soggy and the toppings and tomato sauce were very bland. The service was poor and rude at times, as described in many other reviews. Cons: bad service, overpriced soggy pizza more

The pizza got me there in the first place, the waiters will keep me coming back 2/15/2007

Not since my first trip to meet my relatives in Sicily have I had pizza as fresh and delicious as Lombardi's family-style pies. With fresh mozzarella melted over the sweet sauce made just like my grandmother used to, the pizza delivered just the kind of old-school satisfaction I was seeking. It was well worth the wait. There was one downside to this restaurant though: the adorable curly-haired, scruffy-bearded waiter that served me rebuffed my shameless flirtation. Politely but firmly he informed me he had a girlfriend, and his loyalties prompted my 40% tip. But I'll be persistant. And if not, there's always the cute bartender that kept me entertained while I waited to stuff my face. It's NOT the waiters that'll keep me coming back. It's the pizza, it's the pizza... Pros: the fresh ingredients, the male staff!! Absolutely stunning!!! Cons: I wasted my paper napkin by leaving my phone number. Perhaps if I'd wiped my face with it instead, he'd have called me back... more

Oh. My. God. The end. 2/15/2007

I can't get enough of Lombardi's. A 45-minute wait for my pizza was rather inconvenient. However, the waiters kept us entertained with their charm. Chivalry thrives at the bar with Richard with his delectable margaritas and corteous service. Can't wait to plan my next big dinner out at Lombardi's. I'm in love. The end. Pros: hunky male staff Cons: lame music more

without a doubt da best 2/15/2007

I was there 2 weeks ago and it was awesome. the crispy, charred crust and delicious pepperoni was totally scrumchous. Our waiter was so courteous and polite and made us feel at home. We took a picture by the oven w/ the staff and will forever be in our photo album. Go Lombardi's you will bei forever in our hearts. My family is indebted to you for showing us what REAL PIZZA IS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Pizza and service Cons: Bright Lights more

use to be good, not anymore 2/13/2007

I raved about this place to my friends and ate here years ago prior to renovation. It was really good back then, but now, the pizza lacks flavor and the crust was soggy(ill) Not worth my trip and wait. Service isn't great either. Go elsewhere for your money worth and for your appetitie. Cons: soggy crust more

Great Pizza! Terrible service! 2/9/2007

pizza was tasty, service was lousy, but...bad service, no bone. Treat em like a dog. If they seat someone later then you and take there order first, no good. She wasn't even checking on us for drinks or anything we might have needed. I thought a .35 cent tip was perfect, Pros: Nice thin crust, good sauce. Cons: Terrible service, small tables more

Best Pizza Ever! 2/7/2007

I recently visited NYC in Jan-07 again. Starving for pizza I walked 50 NYC blocks to Lombardi's Pizza. Pizza being my favorite food, I have to say the pizza at Lombardi's was the BEST PIZZA EVER! Pros: Everything! Cons: N/A more

Nasty, Tasteless Pizza! 1/27/2007

I wanted to try this place because of the raving reviews, but was severely disappointed. I ordered the pepperoni mushroom, and it had absolutely no taste, except for the bites that had pepperoni on them. If this is the best pizza NY has to offer, I'd rather eat something else!! Pros: Fast Delivery Cons: Pizza has no taste more

The best pizza...PERIOD 1/22/2007

I have had Chicago style pizza, and now I have had New York style pizza. There is no comparison. Lombardi's New York style pizza is absolutely the best. The crust is thin and crispy. The toppings are flavorful and plentiful. We had no wait for a table and we had our food within 10 minutes of placing our order. I don't why anyone would give a bad reivew! Pros: Great food! more

All Hype, No Flavor 1/21/2007

Went there the first time- a bland pie with too much tomato sauce and not enough salt/pepper. Figured it was an off-night. Came back- a bland pie with too much tomato sauce, canned mushrooms on top and burnt sausage. Pros: ? Cons: Overpriced, flavorless pizza. Crowded. more

DON' T BOTHER! 1/17/2007

I agree with missyg12. Our experience was less than stellar, to say the least. It began when we put our name on the list for the ""20 minute wait""--well it was actually about 45 minutes! We sat down, and the bus boy came over with waters for the table and ended up knocking one over onto my boyfriend. Well, we should have left then, but we stayed. No apology was offered nor did anyone offer any compensation--in fact, most of the staff simply stared, as we cleaned everything up. We ordered and our food arrived in a timely manner. The pizza was very good-but that's about all this place has going for it. We never saw our waiter again. We had to ask another server for more drinks, and she ""huff""-ed at us and had someone else do it! After we finished, we could not leave soon enough. The food was good, but the experience was horrible! Neadless to say, we will not be returning. Pros: good pizza, but there is better. Cons: Horrible service. more

Pretty Good Pizza, Horrible Everything Else 1/6/2007

Pizza was pretty good. Everything else was awful. From the moment we walked in; the host asked how many in our party. We said two. She was wearing an earpiece to communicate with someone else regarding seating. She spoke into the earpiece and said ""party of two"" and then asked the people behind us how many was in their party. They said 3, and a stroller. She then spoke into the earpiece a 2nd time and said 3 and a stroller. She looks at us again and said ""HOW many in your party""? It wasn't even very busy. more

Great Pizza - Nice Atmosphere - Cash or Check 1/1/2007

I love this place. A bit of a wait for seating but worth it. Great simple pizza. Not hiding anything behind seasoning or sauces. Simple delicious old world pizza. Pros: Pizza Pizza Pizza Cons: Cash or Check come prepared more

The way Pizza was meant to be! 12/25/2006

Lombardi's is a place where anyone who loves pizza and is visiting NYC needs to go. The notariety and experience are well worth it, not to mention the coal-fired brick oven taste of real pizza. Glad we made the trip! Pros: Great history, Great Pizza, Great Value Cons: Small dining area more

Old World Style Just A Few Rails Away 12/21/2006

Don't miss the chance to take the rail to America's first pizzeria! This will be the best pizza to ever touch your lips. It is full of flavor and not full of grease like some pies. I was in NYC for personal business and took the F and Green down to Spring St. To get to our table we were toured through the historic kitchen. It was awesome. I was really looking forward to trying this pizza as I try pizza in every town in which I travel and it was the BEST I have had. 2nd best is actually mid Manhattan off Lexington. The staff was great. The server was not great. I love the NY style of attitude, but this guy was just plan rude. Pros: BEST pizza you will eat! History all around! Cons: Staff was nice, but the server was rude and I don't mean NY attitude...he was just plan rude more

The pizza ia ok 12/20/2006

The pizza is okay certainly not the best and yes OVerrated. However for some reason we order there from time to time for the office, that's b/c its usuallyafter work and were serve alcohol with it and I guess that's why they love it. But believe me whenI say there's something always missing and you can't quit enjoy it more

Terrific atmosphere, friendly employees 12/17/2006

My wife and I saw a special on the History Channel which featured Lombardi's and learned that it was the first pizzarea in the united States. (1904) We made it a point to visit Lombardi's on our ""Christmastime"" trip to NYC. We were not let down. Not only was the pizza excellent, the atmosphere and staff was great. I asked if someone would take a picture of us by the original oven. Not only was that done, but the entire cook staff got involved and participated in the picture. We now have a great picture with the oven in the background and some very happy faces. If you are going to NYC, you must visit this landmark. You get some history and a great meal. more
