I especially appreciated their efforts to help us save money with repair options on our furnace which ultimately required replacing said furnace. From getting someone (Steve) out to give a quote on a new AC/Furnace unit, to instillation with Tracy and Moses, I couldn't have been more pleased. All members of the service team went out of their way to make sure that I had the information to make the most informed decision about type, size, and most efficient unit to install. Also, the instillation team went above and beyond the call of duty when they found a busted pipe in the foundation of the condo complex. They were able to change out the pipe and continue the instillation and get my AC back on that night!!! I really appreciated all of their hard work and professionalism!!! We have a large family and needed a large home in the Bluff Park area to maintain the desired school district. When we purchased the home in 2001, both exterior HVAC units were replaced under the home warranty by another company. Not long after they were installed and the warranty ran out, we discovered that there were many issues with the exterior installation and that the interior units needed work as well. So, twelve years later we have placed the home up for sale and both of the HVAC units needed replacing inside and out. I met with six other companies to receive recommendations and quotes as to what was needed. Overall, everyone agreed that the interior and exterior units needed replacing. Even though I specifically requested that all companies quote two-tone units, the pricing differences were dramatic varying by $5K-$6K. After meeting with all of the companies and reviewing all of the bids we decided to go with Steve Miles at Freedom Heating and Cooling. The installers were prompt, courteous and very respectful of our time and our home. Our installation was completed on 5-31-13 and our sales rep, Steve Miles, met with me today for a follow-up walk through to ensure that everything is as was promised - it is! I would recommend Freedom again and again! more

We used a groupon that we recently purchased to have our ducts cleaned. Our intention was to only have the service that were included on the groupon- nothing more. The technician who did the work, Skip, was really kind and helpful, but his supervisor came at one point during the cleaning process and was very rude to me. The conversations went like this- Jimmy- Did Skip tell you about the problems with your AC unit? Me- Yes, but we just want to use the groupon right now. Jimmy- You don't care about your AC system? Me- Yes, but we really dont have the money for anything extra right now. I just wanted to use the groupon in the hopes that cleaning the air ducts would help my allergies. We are kind of broke right now and don't have the money to do anything extra. Jimmy- What? You live in this mansion up here on this hill and don't have money? Me- No, we don't have money and we just got back from adopting our daughter in China. We really can't afford anything extra right now. Jimmy (now walking out the door and visibly irritated) - Well, glad you had a good time in China! See ya! To say that I am offended is an understatement. Stating that we live in a mansion and should have money was bad enough, but to take a jab at our recent adoption (of a 4 year old with special needs who waited years for a family), is beyond rude. Our daughter's future is worth way more than any work he could have done on our AC system and to say anything at all about our trip to China is just awful. Not only that, but trying to upsell on a Groupon is not a good sales tactic. People call back if you do a great job and if you need to resort to this kind of bait and switch sort of tactic, then you just make yourself look bad. more

I purchased a Groupon for a heating and cooling unit cleaning from Freedom Heating & Cooling in Bessemer, Alabama. Mr. Garner was on time, courteous, and respectful of our home. He listened to my questions about a mysterious oily dust we have in our home, and even called two supervisors to take a look at the situation. They were very thorough, inserting cameras into our ductwork, and going into our attic. All three men wore coverings over their shoes, and they offered to vacuum when some insulation fell from the attic. The Groupon I purchased covered the inside and outside units. I appreciated their honesty when they explained that they would come back out in the spring, because the temperature had to be at a certain level for accurate readings. They assured me that they would take responsibility for arranging that appointment and will be bringing new filters for us. They take calls 24/7, and offer a maintenance savings plan. I was very impressed with all three gentlemen, and would wholeheartedly recommend Freedom & Cooling. more

Tracy and Jonathan were here most of the time and did a great job. They even did unforseen ductwork and did not charge me more than the quote. Thanks for a job well done. I will happily recommend Freedom to others! more

Previous review of Freedom's service agreement has been rectified. Freedom called, stated I did have an aggreement, they would be out at my convience to service my unit. Skip came, we talked about what had happened, he apologize for the ommission, serviced my unit and sold me another aggreement for the coming year. The service was for 3 visits, which would have been, Winter, Summer and Winter again. When I had the first winter visit, the serviceman stated, since my equipment was so new, to skip the summer and do the winter and then later the coming summer. I felt his advice was correct, because my unit was less than 2 yrs old. They called for a summer visit and I told them that I would like the nexr winter visit, which is what happened. The serviceman came and did something for the winter visit and then asked me if I wanted to schedule another contract for 3 more visits. I then reminded him that i hadn't had the first 3 and he showed me a paper which stated that someone had lied and said that they had been here for that summer without my being aware of the visit. He called the company and they agreed that noone had been here for the Summer visit and that they owed me a visit for the next summer visit. Well I called and scheduled the visit for March 19 2012, The serviceman called and said the truck had broken down on the road and he wouldn't be able to make the visit, I was to reschedule for the next wednesday 06052012, Noone showed nor called to say no one was coming. I called the company and talked with several people and was finally told that noone was coming and no one was aware of the visit and that my contract had expired with my only having 2 visit. I don't want anyone to come back to my house because I don't trust businesses which don't honor their contracts, plus the serviceman did not come with a filter and left a note on the statement to bring 2 filters on the next visit. Also the serviceman lied and said they came and rang the doorbell, and left without calling me of leaving a note that they had been here, I was here on the date they claimed to have come here. I don't want you to come here just letting you know why more

I learned that age doesn't matter when it comes to Justin he is a very knowledgable young man. With a tool bag full of skills that anyone would enjoy. more

My air conditioner stopped working and Jason G. came out and fixed it, he was very polite and explained everything to me very well. The air conditioner fuse is bad. Although I decided to replace it myself, Jason did a great job of diagnosing the problem and letting me know what my options were. He was very courteous and tidy. I found Freedom H&C on Angie's list where they had a deal for AC inspection and tuning. I haven't had anything done to my HVAC system since I moved in about 8 years ago and it is about 20 years old, so I thought it was time to have it looked at. Jason was on time and very professional. He cleaned and inspected the unit, and pointed out things that I need to be concerned about. more

I had a coupon for a cleaning. The first "technician" that came out was AL, who tried to sell me an overpriced capacitator (i am now sure i did not need it)when he was supposed to be cleaning. He then attempted to install the capacitator without turning of the electricity at the breakor. A spark/arc happened and burned up some wires as he had installed the wiring backwards. I had to call the manager to get someone else to come out as my entire AC shut down. Al repeatedly tried to make it sound like that something was wrong with my system (that was perfectly fine before he came) rather than taking ownership for his own mistake. He didn't even understand that you must shut off the breakor rather than just the "off" switch to the ac control. In addition, 4 hours after he left, I found that the water valve to my hose had been left on for most of the day after he had cleaned my outside unit. Thus, I can say that if this review was just based on Al, I would have to give 1 star across the board. Thankfully, the manager sent Justin to the rescue. Justin came by within an hour, diagnosed the problem, fixed everything, gave me a detailed eplanation of all he had done, and double and triple checked everything. Due to all of the earlier issues, I was not charged anything , which I appreciate and was the right thing to do (unusual in this day and age). If this review was just based on Justin and his work, he would get a 5-star plus rating. So, would I use Freedom again? If I could be guaranteed that Justin ALWAYS came out to do my work, then yes I would. However, I do have great concern about a company that would allow such an untrained employee to do any type of work, outside of cleaning. Overall, I am still considering whether I would use Freedom in the future. more
