Will NEVER go back!! 5/30/2009

My beagle-mix is like my child so I always monitor her treatment in vet offices. We previously lived in Prairieville and went to Dr. Luikart. After moving to Denham Springs, we wanted to establish a relationship with a closer vet and tried Dodge City. The first time we brought our dog in to see the vet, we saw a lady and were very satisfied. Unfortunately, that was not to be repeated. First of all, they do not allow you to accompany your dog for toenail trims. My dog was absolutely terrified of getting her nails trimmed, which indicates they were NOT treating her as they should so I quit bringing her for that. Then, she had an ear infection. We waited over 30 minutes IN THE EXAM room for the doctor. Once Dr. McCaskill finally appeared he was VERY RUDE and said more about my dog's weight than her ear infection (she was a little overweight at the time). When the meds he sent home did not work, I went back and he was VERY RUDE again, actually telling me, "You must not have comprehended wh more

no consistancy 5/22/2009

I just got off the phone with Dodge City. I had spoken with them two weeks earlier about boarding our pet while we were going on vacation. The receptionist said that I did not need to make a reservation. When I called this morning to confirm bringing my pet in, the receptionist now says they have no room and I should have made a reservation. Now it is time to leave and I am scrambling ( and stressing) to find a place to board our pet. THIS IS INCOMPETENCE ! I will never use Dodge City for anything. It seems that their receptionist was just TOO LAZY to take a reservation. more

Go where YOU are comfortable! 3/3/2009

I have for many years, and many more, used Dr. Scott Smith. He genuinely cares for his patients and their owners. Around the year 1999, or so, we were using Denham Springs Animal Hospital. Our dog had been having pain, confusion and other things happening. The Dr. there told us that due to her age she has probably fallen while trying to jump onto the bed and had injured her back. He gave her some pain medicine and told us to bring her back in a week for a check up. Two or three days later she was found at 2:00 in the morning having a seizure. No one could be reached at that hospital so we took a chance and called Dodge City, which we had never used. Dr. Smith told us to meet him immediately at the clinic and he was there with the lights on before we got there. He calmed her seizure and said she did not have a back injury and all of her past symptoms pointed to brain cancer. After a discussion about our options we decided not to let her suffer for a few days under observation more

Reasonable prices unless they MISDIAGNOSE your pet 2/7/2009

My pets are my family and I care for them like that. When picking my older dog up from the groomer I realized that he had a large puss pocket on his back. This disturbed me since he had been groomed at a VET's office and it was overlooked. So I immediately came back and had the vet check it out and she said it looked like possible staph and prescribed a round of antibiotics. The meds did not work... which I know this can happen so we made another appt and went back just to be given another round of antibiotics. For a new building I was very surprised at how dirty the establishment was, the exam table wasn't even wiped down and they put my baby on this dirty table, could he be getting staph from there? My poor little guy started breaking out with these things all over his belly by this point. He had never had anything like this before and all of a sudden after being groomed there he is in misery because they itched him so bad. I had to ask for something to help with the itching they did more

Excuse me, who knows my personal budget better than me? 11/26/2008

I was very disappointed with our puppy's appointment with Dr. McCaskill. He was very rude and spoke to my husband and I as if we were not intelligent. He questioned our ability to give our puppy his booster shots ourselves, as we have been purchasing them and administering them ourselves due to it being much cheaper. He insisted it was best to bring our puppy to his office in the future to get his shots. He made sure that he was very clear in telling us it was very economical and he could understand why we would want to administer them ourselves if they were expensive. (I never thought they overcharged--I was just doing the math in my head and knew I would rather pay $6 over $40.) \r \r All we want to do is to get our pet fixed. When I first called Dodge City (back in October) to inquire about the surgery, I was told to go across the street to purchase the booster, then three weeks after that schedule the appointment. This week I called to schedule the surgery as three weeks have passed. more

Please hire competant office personnel 11/17/2008

I will never use Dodge City again. I have made three appointments for my pet to be neutered. The first time I brought my pet in, I was told I did not have an appointment AT ALL. I referenced the person I spoke with and the date and time I called, which I had written down. Everyone makes mistakes, so I made another appointment. For the last appointment, they told me I could not have the pet neutered until the second round of shots, even though I explained the pet hadn't had the second round both times I scheduled the appointments. The scheduler booked both shots and neutering for the same appointment. My pet hadn't eaten since 7 p.m. the night before and was begging for food both mornings thanks to their incompetent office personnel. Staff there are young teenagers, with inadequate supervision and lack of training. I'm all for hiring youth, however, please hire someone with professionalism and work experience to work at the front desk and train the personnel. You have lost me as a custo more

Friendly Faces 9/16/2008

I find Dodge City to be a wonderful place. I have several animals of my own that have never been anywhere else. They have 3 doctors: Dr. Smith, Dr. Emory, and Dr. McCaskill. I have seen all of them in the past and have been nothing but pleased. They each do things differently, but are all equally effective. The staff seems very knowledgeable although, I do agree that they are a bit under staffed. I often see new faces at the front desk each time I go in. There is one young lady, Jenny, she has blond hair often worn up in a ponytail who is always there when i go. She has been incredibly helpful and is always friendly. It's obvious that she handles stress well as i have seen herself alone up front with a lobby full of people and she never looses her cool or takes the smile off her face. If you need anything, ask for her. I highly recommend this hospital to anyone looking for a vet who knows that our animals are like our children and deserve to be treated accordingly more

Never had a problem 8/25/2008

I have been taking my animals to Dodge City for several years. I have never had a problem with the docs or the staff. Staff in the old office was very friendly and helpful. I went to the new office for the first time last week and was shocked to see only 1 person behind the counter. She didn't know the computer system very well and had to get someone to help her. I was still treated very well and my dog Maddie was treated with the best of care. I thank Dodge City for taking care of us in a kind and friendly matter. more

Ear Crops And Meds 8/13/2008

Dr. Scott does the best ear crop in the area at the best price. They don't overcharge on meds either. Staff is shorthanded and you have to make reservations at least a week in advance is my biggest problem. more

What can I say 7/30/2008

I am sure with any offices there are issues. I know Dodge City is a very busy place. But Dr. Scott is the most wonderful Doctor you can ask for. For the staff issues I honestly think they are under staffed for the amount of business they have.\r \r I have had one doctor (in the old office) that I didnt like his ways. But in their new offices I dont have a complaint at all. I know for my dog Boomer Dr. Scott and his staff did a wonderful job in saving him and I'll will be forever grateful...\r \r They are not I feel after the all mighty dollar because they could charge a heck lot more money for their services. If you ever have problems talk to the office manager she cares. more

The Good and The Bad 7/8/2008

I swore I would never go to Dodge City Veterinary Hosp. again after I was ignored by the entire staff of people who work up front.\r That day, they were still in the old building I came in and there were 4 employees up front and no other customers. After about 5 minutes one of them pointed to the person behind the counter and said she'd be with me in a minute.\r She was working on the computer and was the only one working while the others talked to each other.\r I finally told them I was leaving to go somewhere else.\r I had an animal waiting outside and I went to another vet I had also sworn I'd never go to again.\r THE GOOD\r I had been taking my dog to a different vet for about a year. One late afternoon he was having problems and I called my vet who apparently left work early. I called him at home as this was a matter of life and death and he told me I had to take my dog to BR. I called Dodge City and found a vet, who is no longer there who did what they could, but my dog died in my a more

Please find another vet that cares about your pet...not the sale of their products 7/2/2008

I would strongly advise if you love and care about your pet not to take them here. I have my very expensive large purebred dog on a holistic diet. I have talked extensively with top breeders of the breed and this is what they advised for this breed for their bone and joint problems. This vet first asked what we were feeding him. We told him the Bones and Raw Food diet. He proceeded to tell us he had never heard of it. He then started telling us that it was horrible for our dog and that we should give him Purina Pro Plan. Horrible food as corn is near the top of list of ingredients and corn is just a filler. Serves no purpose whatsoever. He gave us a coupon usable at only HIS clinic and then told us that if we save the circles and sent them in Purina would send us a check for $25. He told us the check would come in Dodge City's name and would only be usable at Dodge City. He had no concern to the dog itself only about making a dollar for himself. He also gave the dog shots that were NOT needed. Beware of them! We also got a coupon for a free visit from the American Kennel Club and of course they did not honor that even though on the phone they said they would. It would have taken money out of his pocket. Of course they kept it though so he could send it in and get "his" money back. If you care and love your pet find a vet that has your pets better interests at heart and will work with you. This is not the one. Pros: clean as it is new Cons: does not work with you, is not knowledgable about purebred, Does not know Bones and Raw Food diet more

my dog died due to incorrect information 6/23/2008

one of the Dr's there gave me the wrong information and caused my dog to die a painful death. I was told he was heartworm free and to have him checked next year. Well he was not hearworm free and needed another treatment. His kidneys failed as a result and my dog drowned in his own fluids. more

IN RESPONSE TO ALL NEGATIVE COMMENTS 6/11/2008

My family and I have been bringing our dog to Dodge City for years! And we have never been mistreated and neither has Tabi [our poodle] So,if you have had any problems I'm sure it is your fault and not thiers. They have ALWAYS been friendly. And I dont understand why they would ever hurt your cat. I don't belive it. I would definately recomend them to anyone. And as far as price goes they are definately the cheapest in the area. I just got a new puppy and she will get all of yher shoys and get fixed there!! \r So anyone who has a problem can just SUCK IT UP!! more

Tell the WHOLE TRUTH 5/30/2008

Ms. Connie B failed to mention that she was cussing at all of the employees at the front desk before she was asked to leave and nicer than I would have too. I know this because I was a client in the waiting room. This vet is wonderful and just because you make an ass of yourself does not give you the right to post a complaint. J. Lacosse more

My kitten was killed by "Dr. I think I'm God" 5/27/2008

If you love your pets, stay far, far away from this place. My kitten was killed by "Dr. I think I'm God" in front of me and my 8 year old son. When I refused to allow my kitten to be "put down" (his words, certainly not mine), he squeezed my kitten very hard and ruptured his bladder. I began crying and asked him to do surgery to repair the bladder and save my kitten. He told me to calm down or he would not even discuss treatment with me. I calmly looked at him and again asked him to do surgery to save my kitten. He looked at me and coldly said, "I could do surgery, but I won't" My kitten died in my hands within about 5 minutes. I could go on and on about the previous visit 4 days prior when I saw "Dr. I don't know / I'm not sure" but that won't bring my kitten back. All I can say is if you love your pets, never entrust their care to this clinic. more

Great experiences 2/11/2008

I have only had great experiences with Dodge City. The office staff always gets down and pets our dog and he really enjoys them. The Doctor staff is not full of personality but they know what they are doing and do it well. I also find their prices very reasonable and take our dog there for everything he needs. more

To answer "TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH" WHICH I'M SURE IS THE VETS WIFE 10/29/2007

You should get the story straight. See, I was not asked to leave the vets office and my husband and nephew were also with me. And since they ordered medication for my dog " which he really did not need as per the new vet " and asked me to come back a week latr and pick it up I wonder how rude I could of really been especially since I could not talk. But I'm feeling better now. Thanks, And since you said I was cussing at the staff you must of not read my story since I have a doctor's note to prove that I had strep throat and could not even talk much less cuss at anyone. I'll try and post it for you to let everyone see if you would like. But if you need any help remembering what happened since my sister asked you about it when she ran into you and you didn't know what she was talking about just call me you have my number. I think maybe you should read every review since I'm not the only person who has had trouble with the office. And by the was my complaint along with alot of others more

UNSATISFACTORY 9/4/2007

On more than one occasion, when calling checking on boarding availability, I was left holding for a long period of time. When the receptionist FINALLY picked up, there was no "sorry for holding" or no other friendly type of greeting. When i asked for boarding availability, it was like i asked a question out of the norm and was treated very rudely. I will never bring my pet to this facility again. Not only for the reasons stated above but for the continued rudeness i have experienced in the past.! more
