I'll never take my car any other place 11/4/2008

As a female, it's difficult to deal with a lot of auto repair places because some mechanics think it's ok to try to rip us off thinking we don't know anything about cars. I'm glad I found Mitch's shop because he absolutely is not like that. He understands that it's better to treat customers well and do quality work instead of screwing people over just to make an extra few bucks.\r \r I brought my car to him to have the ac repaired the day before a road trip to Florida. He got it back to me the in less than 24 hours and the repair came in to be half the price of what I expected. Price wise, he is very competitive - if not lower than most others. He doesn't mark up the parts and sold me my parts for much less than the Honda parts counter at the dealership was going to charge me retail. \r \r As long as I am in Raleigh, I will take my car to him and recommend him to anyone that needs auto repair. \r \r Please note that his shop has moved across the street into the Bull Tire building - 101 more

good honest service 9/8/2008

Transmission repair is mostly a black hole and I rarely find anyone who knows their stuff but the guys at Cottman's Transmission on James Jackson Ave in Cary are great. I have a 1999 Mazda 626 that was slipping and making noise. I got estimates from 2 places for over $3,000 to replace the transmission. Cottman did it for less than $2,000. They have the best warranty in the business and stand behind their work. It was done in 3 days and they didn't pad the bill with extras after the job was complete. I took the car back in for regular service and they did it all under warranty. They also checked out a few other things for me and didn't change me a dime. They did not try to sell me other services like some "quickie? places do. They do brakes and other repairs too. Although Cottman is a chain they are independently owned. And Daniel, the owner is on site and took good care of me before and after the job. I am a car guy and very picky about who works on my cars. I would use Cottman again for Transmission and other repairs with no reservation. Pros: Honest more

Great customer service 8/20/2008

I had a problem with my 2000 dodge caravan transmission,so I looked in the phone book and came across cottomans tranmission and gave them a call. I talked to Brad first and he told me all about the warranties and what they consist of. He was very friendly on the phone and in person. I then talked to the owner Daniel who told me basicly if I do right by him he would help me all he could. So Daniel gave me the terms of our agreement. Having a customer and business relationship with cottomans has been very good. With the agreement we have, making my payments each month, if I had a problem and could not make it on the date, he always told me to keep in touch and they would help me and it has been times where Daniel has looked out for me big time,so saying all of this if you have a transmission problem call COTTOMANS YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!!!!!!! They also do a outstanding job on headlights too. I couldn'tsee in front of me clearly because the lenses were filled with film over the years. They cleaned them and they look like the van just came off the show room.Need work call DANIEL HE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU AND YOUR VEHICLE WITH CARE NO JOKE, JUST GO THEIR AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. MY VAN HAS BEEN RUNNING STRONG, THANKS DANIEL AND BRAD FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: THUMBS UP!!! Cons: I DIDN'T HAVE ANY more

Great Service; Affordable 8/8/2008

Brad and Daniel are great. The always allow me to drop off my car at my convenience, and change my appointments to meet my busy schedule. They are up front and honest about what needs done and what it will cost. Honest, Dependable and very helpful. They stand behind their work and I take all 3 of my vehicles there for service. I would highly reccommend them to anyone for care care from oil change to transmission service. more

finally a great shop to work with 8/4/2008

Well it is funny how some people only tell some of what happens, but i will say this, i was there with my ford explorer the day the woman cam in for a headlight, it was not 3:15 it was almost 4 oclock, and i was standing outside when she pulled up. Mitch did go outside and talk with her, and was caring about what he saw, and told her the bumper would have to come off the car to install her headlight, he also said this was not the right time to do this, if anything broke while he was taking it apart it was going to be to late, to get parts deleivered and the car would have to stay at the shop, also she was there with her infant child and i heard mitch tell her it is extremely hot in the shop and he would rather see her back in the morning, to me that is going way beyond the call of duty for a customer, so i will say this, i respect what he did and will continue to use this shop....Now about my vehicle, my Ford SUV needed to have the transmission redone and after shopping around for someone who sounded like they had some sort of common sence on the phone, i went to cary transmission, and he told me my vehicle would be done and it was done on time. i also was there the day for my 10 day check when the headlight woman showed up, and he tried to help her and then took mine in, i really enjoyed the guys in the shop, they saved all my old parts and showed me and my husband and didnt treat us like we knew nothing. I have the highest respect for Mitch and Bill, they are very thoughtful and noone could match there price, and as far as i am concerned, the quality either Pros: up front with everything, nothing is hidden Cons: none more

Unreliable 7/31/2008

I had a headlight that needed to be installed so that my inspection could pass. I had the headlight ordered, but was just waiting on it to be delivered to me by UPS. I called and asked how much it would cost to have it put in, and also if it would be possible for me to come in whenever the part got to me, since I didn't know what time it would be, I couldn't set an appointment. The man on the phone told me that was fine, to just come on in whenever I got the headlight. He said many nights he's there until 6 or 7 working anyway, so it wouldn't be a problem. That was yesterday. I called back today when the UPS guy wasn't here yet at 2, and asked what's the latest I could bring it in. This time he said 4 or 4:30 would be the latest because he had a hockey game to go to. I got the headlight at 3, and was at his shop at 3:15. He went out to look at my car, told me he'd have to take my bumper off to do it, it would take too long, and he couldn't do it today. I had already told him if it wasn't done today, I'd get fined $250 because my inspection was past due. It didn't matter to him. I was there well before he said the cut off was, but he still wouldn't do it. To me, this is not a man of his word, and I won't be going back there to have the light put in, or anything else done to my car for that matter. I am very disappointed, and out $250 because of it. more

Rare Find 7/27/2008

I recently had transmission work done by Cottman in Cary. My experience with them has been fantastic. Daniel and Brad have both been very accomodating, helpful and friendly. Their prices are fair, their service has been quick and most of all their customer service has been above and beyond. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Daniel is very invoved as the owner of the shop and was always willing to answer any questions I've had. It's so rare to find a shop these days that the owners still care about their customers and are willing to help them out when needed...not just out there to make an extra buck. I wish them much continued success in the future. Thank you for making a "car repair" a good experience...that's the first for me. Pros: great customer service, solid repairs Cons: location is a little hard to find more

Realy bad experience 7/25/2008

The price may look pretty competent but quality of the service is really really bad. For me mitch said , he will change the tail exhaust pipe. After the repair my car started giving a sound from exhaust. After two months it got broken and I replaced with new one. It cost me $350. It is very clear mitch did not changed exhaust tail pipe. I never go back to this shop again. I request please check with other people experiences before stepping into the shop. My other friends who visited the shop felt same feeling. more

Could not provide estimate without $300+ fee, ended up with $3000 transmission rebuild 7/25/2008

Had my truck looked at by Cottman Transmission Center who advised me they needed to remove the transmission to diagnose the problem (would not go in reverse) and that was a $300+charge. I was surprised that a repair shop that does transmission repairs could not give an estimate without removing the transmission. Once they removed the transmission they said it had to be rebuilt at a cost of approximately $3,000.00! Pros: National Brand Cons: National Brand who refused to assist (claiming each location is independently operated) more

what a great person to work with 7/23/2008

After being told by 3 other local shops about my air conditioner needing to be totally replaced, i just couldnt beleive the parts and the labor would total almost 2000,00 dollars. I did ask about remanufactured parts since the car is almost 10 years old. They said that was the cost of these parts, and i had no choice but to do all of it, or it would never work.I was told by a co-worker to give Mitch a call and see what he says, so i did. After dropping off the car with him< i received a call in about 2 hours, he said that something put a hole in the condensor and the cost of the part plus labor was about 300.00. I asked him, are you sure this is all that is wrong? and he replied, if it doesnt fix it, i wont charge you a single penny, of course with that kind of confidence, i said go ahead and do the repair....and guess what..it WORKS, i will never trust any other shop as long as i am in this area...thanks Mitch you have a customer for life.... Pros: HONEST, CARING, PRICE Cons: parking a little tough, but all else was perfect more

Great customer service 7/16/2008

I was referred to the shop when I had transmission problems. I did prices from other shops but they were the most reasonable and willing to work with me. They have always treated me with respect and and I have never had any problems when it came to other services that I need. Daniel and Brad are the best. more

Mitch is great! 6/25/2008

I have a 1998 Mazda Protege that has seen better days. Every time I would take it in for an oil change they would tell me all of these things I needed to fix. I told various mechanics that I was saving up to buy a new car and just wanted mine to run but no one listened. They made it seem as though every little thing was necessary to get from here to there. So $300 here, $500 there, and over the course of a couple years I ended up spending almost $2000 on a car that's not even worth that much. Finally, I read the reviews and discovered Mitch. I told him the same thing, that I just wanted my car to last until I could get a new one. He fixed my leaking transmission (by replacing the pan, not the whole thing like the last guy said I needed) and said everything else could slide. He told me the other things were not necessary for my car to run and they would be a waste of money since I was saving up for a new one. This was last fall and my car is still running great. Mitch's prices are fair and he is good about fitting you in if you need something quick. He's the first honest mechanic I've found in the 5 years I've lived here. Honesty is priceless to a woman who knows next to nothing about cars! I will be going to him as long as I'm in the Triangle! Pros: Location, price, HONESTY Cons: I didn't find Mitch sooner! more

Excellent customer service 12/14/2007

I brought my truck in to Mitch for an estimate on repairing a cracked manifold. He called me later that day and told me that he did not see any cracks in the manifold. In fact, he said that I would just be wasting my money if I made that repair because he did not see anything that needed replacing. A Nissan dealership had "discovered" it when I had my truck in for a routine oil change. They also said that it would not pass inspection unless I made that repair, and they wanted to charge me $1386.81 plus tax for "replacement of exhaust manifold due to both manifolds cracked." Needless to say, I will not be taking my truck for service there ever again. Thanks, Mitch, for the great second opinion and for your honesty! more

Fast, Friendly, Trustworthy -- You can't find this kind of mechanic anymore 12/4/2007

I took my car to Mitch after reading the great reviews on this site. They are all true! Not an hour after I had dropped my car off Mitch called to let me know what my problem was - a bad starter switch. This problem has been plaguing me for over a year. I've had 3 different mechanics look at it and none of them could ever figure it out. Mitch identified the problem right away! Great guy! more

Thanks Mitch!!!!!!!! 11/24/2007

What great customer service 11/2/2007

What great service, I had taken my honda to the Autopark, since me A/C system and climate control stopped working on a trip to PA, after being told that something put a hole in the condensor and that i would have to replace that part plus the compressor and a bunch of other parts, then they told me it was going to cost 1900.00 dollars to fix I almost passed out on the floor, I had gone back to work and was telling a co-worker what had happened and she told me about Cary Transmission and maybe I should call them. Well, I did and after only spending 632.00 dollars the A/C system works PERFECTLY, I will NEVER return to the dealership again, they have earned a customer for a long time. I m very happy I took my car there, I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone........THANKS MITCH now we dont have to use our Christmas money for our repair....... Pros: Clean and very professional Cons: parking a little tuff, so just park around back more

Reliable Mechanic - Finally, A Hassle-Free Repair Experience 8/15/2007

Everyone knows that it is hard to find a good mechanic, especially if you are not willing to spend a ton of money to take your vehicle to a dealer (with no guarantees there, either!). I had grown very frustrated with the repair shop I'd been taking my car to, primarily because every time I dropped my car off with them, no matter how small the repair, it took a week and a half to get it back! Knowing I was going to need major repairs this time, I was no longer willing to take my car to my usual shop. more

Best Mechanic Around, Fast Service, Customer Focused and Honest! 8/8/2007

Sometimes it's hard to know whether to trust the reviews you read about a place. It's also hard to know whether you can trust a mechanic. We've been searching for years to find a mechanic we can trust, and Mitch at Cary Transmission and Auto Care is the guy we trust. Before being referred to Mitch, we recently took our car to another shop to have it looked at. We were told our tensioner and belt were bad, and the mechanic replaced them for about $400. This, however, did not fix the problem. Next, we were told we had a bad alternator, which would cost us about $600--a total of approximately $1,000 (for a 2004 Toyota Camry!). Needless to say, I needed a second opinion. A coworker referred Mitch. Mitch got me in right away and diagnosed the problem right away--a bad water pump. He replaced my water pump immediately and my problems went away--all for a fraction of the cost! I called the other mechanic from Mitch's shop, as he agreed to help me explain that my tensioner was not bad and that I needed a refund. I got the other shop to refund my money and replace my old tensioner. The car worked GREAT, thanks to Mitch. Then, not but a week or so later, I got a flat tire. I called Mitch, and he had me bring the car over right away, and he fixed my flat in a matter of minutes. On both occasions, he took me in right away (even though he had other customers), fixed my problems, and he didn't even charge me for a few of the small incidentals. To top it off, I was having problems with my air conditioner, which I mentioned to him in passing, and he fixed it in the parking lot after I had already paid and didn't charge me a dime. When I asked Mitch questions he didn't know, or wasn't sure of, he'd call someone else while I waited so we could get answers to my questions. His bill is straight forward, and there's no room for hidden charges. Besides, Mitch is not that kind of guy. Go and see Mitch. You won't regret it, and you'll have found yourself a mechanic you can trust. Pros: Knowledgeable Staff, Honest Pricing, Fast Service, Will Stand Behind Their Work - Or Your Money Back Cons: Not a lot of parking, but Mitch gets you in so fast, it doesn't really matter. more

What A GREAT job 7/28/2007

Me and my wife have been taking our cars to Cary transmission for some time now, and I thought I would leave some feedback, I also viewed the other reviews. I do not agree with whoever said that Cary transmission wouldnt work on their car, the owner Mitch has always talked with me on the phone, and has answered all the questions we have asked, no matter how petty they might be. Even when I had broken something on the car, he always said bring it in, and lets get it fixed. EVEN WHEN I WAS THE ONE TO BREAK IT. Never did he say, well you did it, now you fix it. Well, to make a long story short, he fixed the air cleaner box that I broke tring to put in a filter, and never once did he complain, or tell us sorry he didnt want to do it, when he had other customers waiting. We are are so glad that someone is willing to do a job, and not feel like they have to charge an arm and a leg. My wife doesnt get off work till after 7 pm at times, and mitch has waited there to just change the oil, so we will continue to use this shop, so i do not beleive for one minute, that he would refuse to work on any car. MITCH, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK....... Pros: Great service Cons: sometimes hard to find a parking spot more

AVOID 7/27/2007

BUYER BEWARE Fixed my car and charged me lots and still had the same engine light problem. Brought car back and was charged lots more money and engine light is stil on. Finally brought car to dealer. they told me that the work that they did caused me engine to mess up. Brought car back to Mitch. he refused to work on the car. I will have my lawyers follow up. more
