Just in case 60 five-star reviews weren't enough to sell you on these guys, and you've been holding out for number 61, here it is. Cory and Cole arrived exactly five minutes early to help us unload a truck we'd packed ourselves up to the third floor this past Monday. Like great dentists, they were friendly, charming, quick, and gentle. Very attentive to our instructions and preferences on things that were odd-sized or fragile. It started pouring outside in the middle of our move, and they had come prepared with a) giant sheets of plastic to protect our stuff that was already outside, and b) immediate tactical plans for maximizing productivity while saving the more water-sensitive items until the rain let up. Obvs they came in under budget as well... but hands-down, the most worthwhile thing we've spent money on during this move. Well done, guys! more

Everyone else has pretty much covered it, but I felt compelled to add my two cents, just because I really, really want this company to succeed. When they say it's an "athletic moving company," they are not joking. The young strapping men they send look like triathletes. They do really run - lope, even. They are genuinely nice. Everything you've heard is true. Even when we ran into a little snag (my apartment company, in its infinite wisdom, decided to paint the DOORFRAMES to my apartment, rendering the AVL boys unable to get my sofa in without ruining it with black paint), they handled it with aplomb. One of the movers kept apologizing, even though the problem had nothing to do with him. It all turned out fine - we just left the sofa in the hallway and I moved it in later after the paint was dry. I also underestimated how much crap I had and got way too small of a Uhaul, but they didn't bat an eye- they just threw my sofa in the back of their pickup truck, no questions asked. Hiring AVL is like hiring your friends to help you move - if you had really nice, fast, superhumanly strong friends who didn't bitch about carrying boxes up stairs. Their prices are also very reasonable. My move took 3 hours to the minute (even with the sofa/doorframe snafu), and after tip and everything included, it was $300 (worth noting: I did have to rent my own Uhaul, but that's not a big deal). You shouldn't really waste your time checking out other companies. Just call AVL. Where else have you seen almost ALL FIVE-STAR REVIEWS?! more

Good god.... What an awesome first time mover experience! Much like everyone else, this was our first time using movers - and when the time comes to need movers again, we will use AVL Moving systems - and, we're recommending them to everyone we know! From the first communications we had with the company to the hand-shake with our movers at the end of the day, everything was a positive experience. The movers were on time, they assessed our items and adjusted our 3.5 hour estimate to 4 hours, which we were fine with because our amount of things went up slightly from our initial estimate we gave to the company. The movers spent the next 15 minutes or so figuring out the best ways to pack in the large items, and then slot the smaller boxes around them...and then it was on. WIth a direct plan of our how our stuff would fit, Greg & Cole hustled ass like crazy - and by hustle, I mean after they would put a handful of items in the truck, they would RUN back to our house to get more items. For reals. At our new place, they continued to hustle, except now it was up and down 3 flights. Nothing broken, everything treated with care and respect. They ended up being finished in 3 hrs 15 minutes, which was 15 minutes less than the original estimate, and Greg was actually dissapointed they hadn't shaved more time off!!!!! After signing off on the paperwork, and giving the guys the check, we stood around and shared some funny moving stories while the guys had some WELL DESERVED coffee and doughnuts we got for them. Overall, this was 5 star service all around - kudos AVL Moving systems! more

Great movers. Great guys. They were running late due to a longer than expected move before mine and called multiple times to apologize and update me on their status. They also waived the transportation fee to make up for it. The only hitch is that you have to get your own truck (they only have a couple). It probably ends up making it cheaper in the end anyway. Also, most moving companies shrink wrap your valuables/couches/tables and they do not do that. Simply a load and unload moving company. Thanks AVL! $80/hr for two guys. $100/hr for three guys. Tansportaion fee $20. more

After seeing just a mere week before my move that my movers had one of the worst ratings on Yelp (I know, I know why didn't I check before) and freaked out. I called around until I hit AVL and they were SO nice and understanding they fit me in as their last move of the day even though they were technically booked for the day. They were helpful and communicative about the whole move. They showed up exactly on time and truely, as the other reviews have stated, RAN up and down those stairs. That being said, they ended up way under the quote they gave me which got them a big tip from me! I don't plan on moving again anytime soon, but will definitely be recommending these guys to everyone who needs them. more

I had a very bad experience with this mover. Also under WIN van lines and R1 moving. They damaged the carpet in our home by cutting strips in it with the box cutters. They will not pay for the damage They said that we have to file a claim with our homeowners policy. In addition, they tore a hole in the cover of our brand new tempurpedic mattress. Again, it's not their responsibility, according to the fine print. They also banged a big gash in our front door. We filed a claim with their insurance, and the maximum that they will pay is $60. We are still waiting for the insurance claim to be paid. It's been over 2 months since we submitted the claim! I will never use these movers again or any of their affiliates. more

I was really stressed about moving, but they were very careful with all of our stuff and made the move completely painless, and affordable! The hourly rate is a bargain: $80 for 2 people, $100 for 3 people. We estimated that it would take them 3-4 hours to move our 1 bedroom plus den apartment. Nope, 2 hours on the nose! I was amazed at how quickly they were able to move us -- they RAN back and forth from the truck and elevator. What movers do you know that do that? They should open up branches in other cities. I don't think I could ever use another mover. more

Say you need to move a 16 foot Budget truck load of boxes up 34 steps on a 93 degree San Jose summer day, unfortunatly, there isn't an app for that, but if there was, it would be AVL! From start to finish, the experience was fantastic. The quote was accurate and reasonable. On moving day, the move went great. The two men showed up on time and could have accomidated me earlier. They were both very professional and respectful of my belongings. Like the other reviews, they do run! I highly recommend them and will use them for future moves. more

Wow, I hate to be one of the non 5-star reviews, but so it goes. Yes, the movers were quick and friendly -- yes, they ran in between loads of boxes. But... I hire movers because A) I'm lazy and B) I expect them to be be good movers and protect my stuff. Unfortunately, as quick and friendly as they were, there were still some glaring issues I had with the service. And really, I feel bad for even complaining, because they are definitely good movers for a good price, but the way they loaded my truck was haphazard at best -- about as good as I could do, but if I wanted a mover that could do as good as I can, I wouldn't hire movers, I'd do it myself. For instance, we had one particular box that was heavily labeled as VERY FRAGILE and begged NOT TO PUT ANYTHING ON TOP of said box. When we went to unload our truck in the next town, that box -- which housed a 100 year old, extremely-fragile lamp, had a 40 pound TV nestled on top. Yikes. Luckily, nothing was broken, but simply paying attention to what the box said could have earned another star. In the end: would I use them again? Yes. But I'd also play closer attention to how they were packing my truck. more

AVL Moving Systems quite bombtastic! I made a request in the middle of the week for a Saturday move and got pretty quick response from the coordinator. Estimate was for 2 people for 2.5-3 hours, but instead I got 3 people but it only took an hour and a half! Austin and crew were all very polite and absolute beasts when it came to handling big boxes quickly and carefully - I did confirm they were also running back and forth when loading and unloading. I also rented the truck and they had tons of padding for my items and also for the nice passenger elevator at my end location. In the end, all of my stuff got to my new place quickly and safely in an hour and a half and ended up being $190 (hour and a half for 3 people + truck rental) + tip (thanks for the tipping guidelines on the site!). Would definitely use AVL again! more

On May 21, 2010, my wife and I contracted with AVL Moving Systems (aka R1 Moving and Storage) to transport our belongings from Fresno, Calif. to Plainsboro, N.J. Our items were picked up in Fresno as scheduled on June 14, 2010. Our window for delivery in Plainsboro began on June 19, 2010. On June 21, 2010, we contacted the company to check on the status of the delivery and spoke to Rich who informed us that he would call back later that day with a status update. After not hearing back from Rich in 24 hours, we called back and he informed us that our items had not yet left California. At this point, we called Jack, with whom we had initially finalized our contract and explained the situation to him. He informed us that he would look into the situation and get back to us. After not hearing back from Jack in 24 hours, we called him again on June 23, 2010. He said that our items were scheduled to be loaded on June 24, 2010 and to be shipped starting on June 25, 2010, and that he would call us to give us the driver's information and that items should arrive late the following week. After not hearing from Jack in regards to the driver's information, we called Jack on June 29, 2010, and Jack transferred the call to Rich, who said that the driver's name was Sergey and provided us with his phone number. According to the records, Sergey had two stops, but the expected date of arrival would be July 5 or July 6, 2010, and that we were free to call Sergey at any time to obtain further details. After leaving multiple messages for Sergey over the next two days and getting no response, we sent an email to your company on July 1, 2010. Shortly after sending this email, we received a call from Raj who apologized but said that our items were still in California and that Rich had lied to multiple customers and had been relieved of his duties. Raj also informed us that our items would depart on Tuesday, July 6 and would arrive the following week. Because of the inconvenience, Raj informed us that we would receive a $30 per day credit for each day after the 14 days that our items were late. On July 13, 2010, we spoke to Jack who informed us that the $30 per day credit had been approved and that it was being processed but would take a couple of weeks for us to receive it. He said to pay the driver in full when the items arrived and that a check would be processed and mailed to us. On July 16, 2010, our items arrived, six business days after the 14-day window for delivery closed, entitling us to a $180 refund. On August 9, 2010, we spoke with Accounts Payable at the company, and they informed us that this was the first they had heard of it, but that they would look into the situation and get back to us with the status of the refund. On August 11, 2010, we again spoke to Accounts Payable, and once again they replied by saying that they would look into the situation and get back to us. On August 16, 2010, we left a voice message for Accounts Payable explaining the situation and asking that they get back to us. On August 18, 2010, we spoke with Customer Service. They said that Accounts Payable was not in, however he would pass along the information, but could not guarantee that we would hear anything back. We sent a certified letter to this company on August 24, 2010 requesting that we receive the refund by September 10, 2010. As of today (September 25, 2010), we have not received the refund. more

I have found my movers for life... or at least the rest of my life in San Jose. In August I moved from a garden to a 3rd floor apartment and had the most pleasant moving experience a girl could ask for. Now, of course there was stress and sweating and hard work, but overall I was thrilled. I got a timely, fair quote. The guys showed up early (only after calling me to see if I was ready to roll). They were friendly, fast (literally RAN between every trip), and even complimented me on my organization! They accommodated my request to pop in at my boss's couch and pick up an additional sofa that wasn't in the original plan/quote. Nothing broken, lost, or damaged. They finished early and under their quote, which earned them a fat tip of course more
