WHITE The Art of Hair

After several years of searching for a talented colorist (including a couple of tries at a famous Broad Ripple color/salon) I went to see Danita. She listened to my desires & budget concerns (dang economy!) and delivered results that exceeded my expectations. She is both an artist and a perfectionist so each time I leave, my hair and [stubborn] eye brows are a wow! I get compliments on my hair color... something I never experienced before. I am so happy to find such an artist! more

I found this salon while I was searching for Kerastase hair products. I was not even calling for an appointment - I only wanted shampoo, however, I enjoyed speaking with the owner (Danita) so much, that when she inadvertently asked me if I was thrilled with my hair color and hair stylist - who I have been with for over 6 years - it made me think...I could NOT honestly answer 'yes'. The last few times I was at my old salon, things were different and my old stylist's work was not up to par. So I figured if she carried Kerastase products and had such a pleasant, direct, self-assured owner personally answering the phone, I would give them a chance. I checked out the web site and it was great - I got a good feel for who the staff are and what the place was like and decided it was a salon I would enjoy trying, so I booked my appointment (I did have to wait 3 weeks to get a Saturday appointment). THE REASON FOR THIS REVIEW: As soon as I walked in the door, I was overwhelmed with the decor of the place - very eclectic and reminded me of home. They were playing SiriusXM Alt Nation (my fav) and I was greeted by Danita. The assistant immediately welcomed me and offered me a beverage. I was given a clean gown to change into and led into the bathroom/changing room - very nice and CLEAN. I did make myself a cup of coffee and grab a magazine and I was enjoying watching the stylists work. It is so rare these days to see a group work together and get along so well - everyone was friendly and the place just had such a positive vibe going on.. I enjoyed being there and I felt like I was part of something. Needless to say that when all was said & done and the foils were removed and I was rinsed out, my hair was AWESOME - it came out better than I could have hoped for and I felt great. If I had felt this good after walking out of my old salon I would still be a client. Had it not been for how direct, courteous and knowledgeable Danita was on my initial phone call this would have never happened - it just goes to show that you never know how things will work out.. Just a great place for hair color, highlights, and good coffee and music. And, I received no less than 4 compliments that afternoon while I was out doing errands :-). more

Just had another fabulous experience at White the Art of Hair... and had to share! I'm a "regular" and look forward to each month's appointment because I know that when I walk out, I'll feel great about my hair, both how it looks and how healthy it's become since Danita has taken care of it. Danita has taken her profession to another level of expertise with the way she does Hair Dreams hair extensions, color application, and cut. And, I get all of these :-) But what makes it special is that at each appointment, even though I've been her client for years, she always takes the time to ask what's working, what's not working, if I would like to see anything different... and then she makes it happen. There seem to be so few services these days that deliver what they say they will. Danita, thank you for always making "getting my hair done" an experience that I look forward to! Fantastic from start to finish! Danita did a quick assessment of my hair and described, step-by-step, what she had in mind. I gave her free reign to cut my hair as she pleased. She kept with a more conservative cut, only trimming a few inches, and fixing my layers, but it made a huge difference! Also, my color was to die for! They were very friendly and professional. I was constantly offered something to drink or a magazine to read. While I was there I saw several men get their haircut and most seemed like regulars... which I'm inferring means that they love getting their hair cut there as well. With out a doubt, best Salon in town. Run, don't walk to this place!! more

Over The Moon......... I must let my secret out of the bag. I am originally from Los Angeles Ca. and I have been to a variety of different salons. White The Art of Hair, is the only place to go for hair. Danita White is an artist who takes her profession very seriously, (while having fun doing it). She is an expert colorist who uses top salon products while executing her highly skilled techniques. My very first experience with her was when she corrected a color mishap made by another stylist/salon here in Indy. She saved me and gave me a spectacular result. Her styling/cutting techniques could easily be competitive against any top stylist in the country. After she cuts my hair she then texturizes it into a symphony of perfect, (so perfect I don't even have to wash it in the morning if I don't have time - hello!!!!). If you can't get an appointment with Danita she has an incredible staff who are equally as professional and skilled. I know they also offer top quality extension services, (I have not branched into that hair arena, but I have witnessed it being preformed). Also, the Kerastase product line that she uses on your hair will have you at hello! You can purchase them there as well, and thank goodness. I always make sure I have my Kerastase Slim which is a key product in the humid weather. Beyond anything hair, (and all the other services and products the salon offers), the salon itself is a very relaxing environment. I am greeted each visit and offered a variety of beverages. I always look forward to going through the magazines, and catching up on some "me" time, (corny but true). There is also an area with a tall table and comfy chairs so customers can get work do on their laptops. If you are looking for a new stylist, (which is often harder to find than a new gynecologist), or wanting something new with your color, White The Art of Hair is the only place to go. You won't be disappointed. more

I started going to Lush back in 2006 when there was a totally different panel of stylists. I was excited about having an appointment with Danita, and would have loved her to cut my hair, but as soon as I showed up for my appointment and sat down, she asked me what I wanted and when I told her, she pawned me off onto another stylist because she said she was "better" at the haircut that I requested. I felt uncomfortable in the salon from the beginning, the atmosphere was not friendly. Fast forward a couple of visits, I thought I was paying way too much for haircolor when it wouldn't last more than a couple of weeks before beginning to fade (and after purchasing their overpriced hair products to supposedly help extend the hair color). Then one of my favorite stylists decided to leave, followed by many other stylists at this establishment. Then I heard the horror stories of how the owner treated the stylists that needed to leave, so I decided to leave as well. I'm sure they do a great job for the people who get extensions and the other higher-priced services, but for hair color and cuts there are MUCH better establishments in Indianapolis and surroundings areas that won't make you feel uncomfortable or treat their stylists unethically. Wondering why the name changed from LUSH to WHITE...reputation issues perhaps? more

I have been to Paris, Italy, London, and a few other European countries; I also have been wearing extensions from around the world for 4 years. Until this year, while in the Colts owner Jim Esays suite at the new stadium; I could always tell when another woman was wearing extensions! I saw this blond model being photographed for a national magazine and I thought to myself "damn her for that gorgeous hair, and here I am paying $1,500 for mine." Later that evening I saw her again, and this time I had to ask "What do you do to your hair?" She replied "Honey, I have Hair extensions." I gasped and out of shock and disbelief!!! I could NOT tell even while touching her hair! Like a crazy woman, I flipped my hair back and showed her my "Finger rows" as we laughed through it. She was Miss Indiana USA and gave me a card for her stylist Danita White. The next day, at the office I goggled "Miss Indiana USA" and much to my surprise on her website was a link to White The Art of Hair, and on top of that she was a client! So I google searched Danita and matter of fact you can google almost anything to do with salon, beauty, hair extensions, etc. And Danita is there!!!! So I set up my consultation and went, 8 hours later I was a flawless, beautiful, long, thick haired, very content woman! The magic I had encountered that day, transformed not only my hair, but in many ways my life. Nobody I meet knows I have hair extensions, except me.... There is one thing I want to say to ANYONE thinking of or is already doing extensions; Danita is like a Leonardo Da Vinci of color and extensions! Perfection is priceless! p.s. she wont tell you but she does all the top movers and shakers hair in this town so keep your eyes peeled for a celebrity sightings while at the salon. more

I checked out White Salon after a couple of friends recommended it, and am very glad I did. Danita is just amazing with colors, and although I just went in for a single process, she actually threw in a few highlights on the top of the head where my highlights had grown out cause it had been 3 months since I got them done. And all this at no extra cost! The staff is not only very knowledgeable, but they take their time with you, and really make you feel special in the process :) Would totally recommend them if anyone's looking to get highlights or any sort of color correction done! I am going back again in 4 weeks :) more

Danita is mean, and obviously by reading her reviews, the real clients have it right, this salon should be avoided at all cost. She charged us $200 for a postponement of our appt even though I had a car accident the night before and told her that on the message I left 7:00 that morning. She may get our $200 but we will NEVER use WHITE again and will pass the word so no one EVER makes the same mistake!!! She was combative, confrontational, unprofessional, didn't give a darn that we had been in an accident, didn't care that we had planned to reschedule. All she wanted was her $200 cancellation fee!! How low can you go? Danita and her salon obviously can crawl at the bottom of the barrel and be very comfortable! Enjoy your $200 Danita you are a bad business person, shame on you more

I have seen Lauren Melvin for the last 4 years both here in Indy and at Michael Canele Salon in Beverly Hills and totally get why she wins awards for her work - the compliments I receive on my color and my cut are always so nice to hear - she knows what she is doing, loves what she does, cares about me and how I feel about the outcome and always delivers. I would be afraid to leave her and try someone new - I rely on her so much for consistently meeting my expectations. I wouldn't dream of leaving her for a different stylist. Plus she's just a warm, caring, vivacious, funny person who makes my experience positive every time. I saw the review from the person who did not have a good experience and it's too bad - this way of expressing dissatisfaction is unfortunate in that it in no way reflects how much Lauren really does care. She rocks. Love her. Wouldn't trust my hair to anyone else. more

As a recent transplant to Indy I was in need of somewhere to get my hair permanently straightened - it was time to touch up the Japanese hair straightening done to my unruly mess and I could not find hardly anywhere to do it. The few salons I talked to were rude or snooty but the staff at White the art of hair were very friendly on the phone. I spent about four hours with Lauren today and left with completely perfect straight hair. I can honestly say it was the best job ANYONE has ever done using the Japanese straightening technique on my hair. Lauren was lovely, funny, and friendly and the staff was extremely nice. Psst-its also the place where all the colts players wives and cheerleaders have their hair done! In six months when it's time for more touchups you can bet I will go nowhere else but here. Highly recommend! more

Over the years, I've had a lot of good cuts-and a lot of bad ones. This time, I really did my homework before stepping into White The Art of Hair salon. My research really paid off! Danita was very attentive to my needs and gave me useful feedback and suggestions. I walked in with dead ends and "horse hair syndrome" and left with silky-soft, touchable tresses. The cut was precise and flattering- She is an expert with her scissors! I made an appointment to go back for highlights and maybe even extensions. Can't wait! :) more

Don't get me wrong - the quality of the work Lush and Danita produces is good. However - I've was completely burned by her 'cancellation' policy which is so strictly enforced. Overall, I refuse to do business with someone who isn't willing to compromise with a loyal customer. After being a loyal customer for over 2.5 years, I was laid off from my job and my Outlook calender I kept my appoints in went with it! I UNINTENTIONALLY missed an appointment and received a call from Danita 30 minutes after my appoint was to have started. I apologized profusely, and tried reasoning with her. I noted that I could come in the next day to make up the appointment, but simply couldn't afford a sunk $200. I could understand the policy if they employed "reminder calls"(which they did at one point but gave up on without a notice to clients...), but there was no reasoning with her - the $200 was charged and I've never been back. She claimed she needed to pay her stylist her appropriate commissions for lost time...too bad they double book while someone processes. Additionally, in the 2.5 years as a customer, I saw 4-5 different stylists - very transient work force. NEVER again. more

I was in Indianapolis from Scottsdale for a wedding and decided to take the opportunity to get my hair cut and colored. I had just arrived, had a cold and was generally not looking forward to it because I usually despise being stuck in a stylist's chair. I can't even begin to describe what a fantastic experience it was at White The Art of Hair. You can tell that the stylists and staff are consummate professionals with unrivaled talent and training. I have never seen that level of skill exhibited in a salon in Arizona. Danita truly has a gift and an incredible focus. I explained that I was getting married next year and felt that I should have the cliché grown out hair for it. In the most polite and diplomatic way, she asked if I wanted her opinion. I'm so incredibly glad she did. I entrusted her to cut in the way she saw would be most flattering. The transformation was incredible. I've never left a salon feeling so good about myself. My fiancé picked me up and was totally in awe of the results. The atmosphere made me feel comfortable enough to give the stylist free reign and the talent of the stylists made that so worthwhile. It's been three months and I haven't been to another stylist. I'd rather fly back to Indiana than submit to the whims of anyone else. White The Art of Hair is a great salon and I have been going there since it opened. The atmosphere is friendly and casual yet always professional and elegant. I have been a client of Danita White's for almost 15 years for both color and cut and I always get compliments on my hair. I trust her implicitly and have always loved the result. Her cut and color techniques are first rate. One of the great things about Danita is that she always keeps in mind my personal preferences, and then offers her professional suggestions so that I end up with the best cut/color possible. I like to change my cut or color every 6 to 12 months and the days when I go in and say "I'm bored, let's do something different" are always fun. The wheels in her head immediately start turning and she gives me a cut or color that is different enough to satisfy my need for change, but doesn't drastically depart from my general overall style. I have been blond, brown and dark auburn and they all looked great! more

My hair stylist moved and I am looking for a new place to go. I am big on reviews and take them quite seriously. I saw that the art of hair had 5 stars but like I said I always check reviews. I looked at the things people didnt like and I would have say it changed my mind completly. I like to invest money into my hairstylist but I expect high customer service. Even when I called to get some information the message on the phone sounded snoby. Not even taking the time to answer the phone. my friends follow my lead on who to go to and I would have to say that it would take something drastic to change my mind at this point more

Wow. I am very surprised by all the one star reviews. Danita (the owner) is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She's easy going, soft spoken and really thoughtful when it comes to her salon, clients, and services. All her stylists are fantastic with color, the best I have been to and I am quite picky when it comes to hair. Living in Indy for 7 years I haven't found a stylist that I LOVE..... until I went to LUSH. Now I have a stylist that I can't do without. And let me tell you, the phone not ringing while having your hair done is genius. Who cares if it makes booking appointments a little more challenging! I have a 2 year old and work customer service all day, the last thing I want to hear when relaxing is the phone ringing. more

Making my living as a model here in Indianapolis and beyond requires that my hair always be at its best. I have very special needs to achieve my look and the people at White The Art of Hair went above and beyond to meet those needs. Lauren always does an awesome job on my hair. We always have a great consultation about how I wanted it colored (more highlights, lowlights or lighten/darken the base color). She always has great ideas and makes sure to make me look my best. She is available after work which makes seeing her plausible during the work week. She is funny and energetic and makes the trip to the salon fun and fabulous. Leaving me feeling gorgeous, pampered, and very impressed, from now on its nothing but the "Best" for my hair! more
