Used to be the best place in town 10/19/2011

10 years ago this place was the sh*t!\r \r Droped in recently - food was good but not great (especially for what you're going to spend).\r \r Bartenders were lame, service was ok. The awesome vibe is gone - maybe just a sign of the crummy economy? more

Delicious 5/9/2011

Delicious! I love the roasted garlic. The sauces were very interesting and delicious with everything we dipped into them. I would go back and dine there again and again. more

Great Restaurant 5/2/2011

This is the best restaurant that I have been to in town. The food is just excellent and very tasty just a little overpriced, wait staff are quite friendly and the atmosphere is great. more

complex flavors and then dipping sauce? 1/21/2011

First of all, the place was cold. The service was okay. I was really surprised that they had a list of 20+ sauces but no one mentioned anything to us about picking sauces. However, I don't know how they could have been enjoyed. Our food (three pepper flank steak and the shrimp and noodle bowl) were so spicy that it was not enjoyable at times. The flank steak was very chewy. I know it's flank steak, but at $30 I'm expecting a dining experience. We decided to skip dessert because who knows how they would try to make dessert flavors complex. Went to dBar instead. Bottom line, way over priced, too spicy, food flavors too complex for the added dipping sauce, like eating in a meat locker. Wasn't too impressed with their sister restaurant, Steuben's, either. more

The Fresh Fish Company 9/13/2010

Since we came back to Colorado 5 years ago,we rediscovered The Fresh Seafood Co. and have been good customers ever since. The food is outstanding and the personnel is so nice and friendly, you feel like you are at home! The Sunday brunch is unique and very popular. And when they have your e-mail address, they let you know all the specials they can offer and believe me ,that is wonderful. We enjoy going there more than to any other place and are very happy to have learned about them. more

expensive yet nickle and dimed 5/8/2010

Went to Vesta Dipping grill last night for a birthday. Party of five. Arrived at 5 because it was the only time available on this Saturday. Ordered all 5 of the ""special"" $2.00 appetizers to see what we may want to continue with. They came: 1- beef satay, 1 -shrimp, 1- 1"" square pork belly, 2 chorizo balls the size of a large gumball and 3 tater tots with a creamy cheese filling. Food cost, maybe 10%. All were good but uninspiring. Ordered 2 nice bottles of wine, Freemark Abbey 2006 merlot over the course of the dinner. They were very nice at at price of $46.00 each.\r Ordered beet salads for $10.00 each(they were very good), organic greens salad for $7.00 and another chips and dips sampler for $7.00 both of which I felt were unispiring. Food cost: maybe 10%. Then ordered chicken (leg and thigh) @ $23.00(good), 2 tunas at $26.00(good), smoked duck breast (excellent)for $28.00 and their special korean bbq buffalo at $32.00 (very good). Each came with small plate portions of burned (I guess they were suppposed to be carmelized) vegetables. Food cost maybe 15%. With the salads mentioned earlier priced in, each plate was from $30.00 t0 $42.00. Then the finale: we were brought a ""2 bite"" piece of chocalate moose cake (excellent) with a candle for the birthday boy. Nice touch I thought. After Macallan 18 year for $18 and two Taylor Fladgate Ports for $10 each, we received the bill. Amazingly, we were charged $2.00 for the sliver of chocalate moose birthday cake (which we never ordered). We just spent $415 including tip on dinner and were charged $2.00 for a ""two bite"" piece of birthday cake we didn't even order. A summary would be: good food, the dips are an interesting hook, food is way overpriced and I would hate to think what a full slice of birthday cake would have cost us!\r Pros: wine list and smoked duck Cons: super expensive, good wine but we felt nickle and dimed more

Great food but the service left a bad taste in my mouth. 3/20/2010

Heard a lot about this place so we decided to try it, wish we wouldn't have.\r \r The hostess said maybe one word to us as she sat us in Antartica. The server didn't write anything down, so of course when our appetizer came out (Sauce Sampler... pretty good) 2 of the 5 sauces were wrong. When I tried to tell the food runner he rolled his eyes, put his hand up and rudely told me to wait til he was finished. When I told him the marmalade he brought us was supposed to be the Asian Pear Chutney (which I really wanted to try) and the jalapano something or other was supposed to be wasabe cream, he told me 'oh yeah that's what I meant' and walked away.\r \r Now usually this is the point where you get the manager, well since they all wear their own clothes, we couldn't find a manager to save our lives, and since we were left alone with empty glasses and plates for around 25 minutes we decided to just pay and leave. \r \r Later when we discovered we had left our credit card there, we returned to the same icy hostess, who we inconvenienced by asking for our server, she came up and just stood there, didn't even ask if we needed something just stood there, so we asked about the card. She said 'not here, i'd have it if it was.' Walked away. \r \r I'm hoping the whole restaurant was just having a bad day. But their bad day was bad enough to where I don't really want to go back. \r \r On the bright side, I love the idea but think its better suited for a fun atmosphere like CB & Potts or something a little less stuffy. Great meats, and the sauces were wonderful. \r Pros: Fun idea Cons: Service more

Great food!!!! 1/16/2010

The food and service was great. We had a party of 7 and the service was pretty quick for such a large party. The food was top quality, but it ended up being a pretty expensive bill by the end of the night. Other than the price, absolutely no complaints. Great place to eat! Pros: Great food, great sauces Cons: expensive menu more

Good food Terrible Service. The sauces actually detract. 11/22/2009

First let me preface this by saying, we go out a lot and to very good restaurants. This was absolutely not one of them. The meats were pretty good, the venison has some very excellent qualities. The beef tenderloin was cooked well, but not the best cut. The Shrimp and bay scallop ceviche was very good and has some nice flavors with the medium spice. The vietnames egg rolls were ok, with the crust be excellent and the filling being worthless. The food overall was very good. The service was terrible. We were sat at 7:00. We had our first contact with our waiter at 7:25. Since we had 25 minutes to look over the menu, we were pretty sure what we were going to get, but we just ordered drinks and appetizers. The first bottle of wine was not available, and instead of just asking if we want another bottle, the waiter goes into a long story of why it is out. Who cares? Apologize, and just get me the second bottle. We next see our waiter about 30 minutes later with the appetizers and bottle of wine. At this point we order, because who knows when we will see him next. We order and he is just very rude from then on, tossing dessert menus at us, not explaining anything. This waiter took what could have been a nice experience into a restaurant we will not return to. Pros: Pretty good cuts of meat Cons: Ambiance, SERVICE!! more

Mixed feelings about this restaurant 3/18/2009

My husband and I had heard such great things about this place...great food, great ambiance, good service, romantic, etc. so we decided to try it out. \r \r Our reservations were at 6:45, so we showed up at 6:40 and checked in with the hostess. She said it would be a few minutes, so we went and sat at the bar. 6:45 came and went, then 7:00, 7;05, at about 7:10 we started to notice that people who came in after us were getting seated. At 7:15, my husband decided to check in with the hostess. They acted very confused, and said they could go ahead and seat us.\r \r We were finally seated at 7:20 (40 minutes after we got there...35 minutes after our reservation.) They only excuse we were given was that there was a mix-up with the hostesses when they switched shifts.\r \r Our waiter was decent, but acted distracted most of the time...he actually brought us our appetizer twice, not realizing we'd already eaten our appetizer...it was a bit strange.\r \r The place was REALLY loud too! The music was so loud that everyone was trying to talk above it and my husband and I couldn't even hear each other. Not romantic at all!!\r \r The food was good...really no complaints there. Just keep in mind if you go to this restaurant that the food is decent, but the service is really bad!! And, don't go here if you are looking for a romantic evening. Pros: Good Food Cons: Disorganized Employees/Too Loud-Not Romantic more

Great food, but had long wait to get it 12/31/2008

First time there, and probably the last. Great food, and wait staff was very attentive. However, service out of the kitchen was very slow, and the wait staff kept coming by to apologize. We were a party of two and chose to share a salad and two entrees, as three courses (the restaurants suggestion). The salad came fast, but then there was over an hour wait for the 1st entree. Restaurant was about 75% full at the time. This will prevent us from returning. Pros: Good food Cons: Long wait for it more

eclectic 11/20/2008

Somewhat consistant food, slightly overated ,see and be seen. The food is usually excellent , the service is very sketchy and sometimes rude. I have been there in small parties as well as special arrangements for large celebratory parties. The kitchen once flipped out an ember and burned my daughters arm. The restitution for that mishap was a flippant ""oops"". Pros: a great place to check out the local lore Cons: service and attitude is sometimes arrogant more

very good 11/17/2008

Everytime we eat here,it is always very tasty...Always a special evening..And the food is delicious..!! more

The food is overpriced and the staff is rude 11/13/2008

My husband and I went there for a fun night out but were very disappointed. First and foremost we had a reservation but we had to wait for 20 minutes. After we were sat we waited 10 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. This continued throughout the night. When we received our food the steak was overcooked and the chicken was undercooked. I would not recommended this to anyone! more

Very disappointing for a vegetarian.. 11/10/2008

First, the good things. \r Vesta has a wonderful ambiance and location. Everything from the lighting, menus and the table settings to the power washed brick walls and old wooden floors patched up with metal is esthetically pleasing. The reason I gave this restaurant two tries was because of how much I like its facade but last Saturday night will be my last time at Vesta. \r \r On to the bad.\r There are only two vegetarian items on the entree menu. The first is a tofu steak that was very bland and altogether unfortunate tasting. This food was not something close to being worthy of its price tag and most of it went to the trash can. The second entree is a ""vegetarian mixto"" composed of a small portion of grilled vegetables and grits. While this dish was less disappointing than the last, it was completely without creativity and again, I left hungry.\r \r Now, I know that this is a very popular restaurant and that many people enjoy it. Everyone that I've eaten at Vesta with has enjoyed it but none of them were vegetarians. It's very important for any restaurant but especially for well liked restaurants to have at least one very good vegetarian meal. Vesta has two not good meals that really need to be taken off of the menu and created anew. \r \r I want to like Vesta, I really do. The servers are polite and accommodating and the samosas on the appetizer menu are delicious, but the entrees just ruin the entire experience. My advice to Vesta is to put more thought into the desires of foodies who happen to go without meat and my advice to vegetarians is to try another restaurant like Potager, who knows vegetarians very well.\r \r I hope this is helpful. Thank you!\r \r Pros: Decor and ambience. Cons: Veggie food without thought. more

Fun place to be 6/19/2008

The food is original. Would be a great place to take a date. Something is just missing from making this a 5-star rating. more

Wonderful Food, Knowledgeable staff!! 6/15/2008

We went to Vesta's for a well deserved Friday evening away from the kids. We got street parking right outfront (bring quarters) We had early reservations (5:45) and were a few minutes late. There was no problem being seated, and our table was great. The server was awesome, and knowledgeable about the entire menu. \r \r We had ceviche to start, because of all the great reviews. It was pretty good, but we went with the chile verde level, and I think that was a mistake. The best part about ceviche is the freshness, and mixing it with a sauce was interesting. I think next time we would go with the mango poblano, just to make it a little more authenic, or plain with a sauce on the side. \r \r While waiting for our entree, they brought us some samples of menu items, which was great. I ordered the pork tenderloin which was delish, there was alot of meat, and tons of rice and onions. (I didnt even eat it all there was so much) Presentatoin was great. It comes with mojito onions, and they did taste like a mojito! I went ahead and got the suggested paired sauces. My husband had the scallops. They were cooked to perfection and a large serving (4-5 large scallops). The sweet potatoes were do good that he ate them even though he doesnt like sweet potatoes. They accidentally brought us hot fudge instead of one of his sauces, but they quickly fixed it, and brought us a complimentary desert sampler to make up for the mistake!!\r \r All in all, great dining, I don't have any complaints, and that is odd for me!! Pros: Knowledgeable staff, samples, ambience, service Cons: nothing to complain about!! more

Favorite place in Denver 5/22/2008

I've been frequenting Vesta for 11 years and had never been disappointed - until recently. Usually a cool atmosphere but found bartender to be a bit rude the last time I was there. Pros: Food, staff, location Cons: sometimes too crowded to get table at last minute more

Great first date spot 4/20/2008

This was one of the best places I have ever eaten! The atmosphere was dark and trendy. This is a great place for a first date, or any date really. You get to choose from 3 sauces to have with your dinner, and of course you can mix and match and try eachothers. The beef tenderloin was melt in your mouth delicious and our waitress recommended the venison which was even more amazing! We got dessert and I was so glad we did, it was one of the best ones I have ever had (we got the Mattys apples, the chocolate bar and the ice cream sandwiches). If you want to try something different and fantastic, check this place out!\r \r Pros: Excellent desserts Cons: No real parking more
