Best

I love it here. This is definitely one of my favorite Hollywood spots and I try to frequent the club with friends as much as possible! This is really a great spot...you just need ...

Tourist Trap 5/14/2003

The view is great. That's what this place definately has going for it. The service is slow and not all that great. Problem is the crowd. There's a ton of tourists and the rest are people who think their somebody important. They give the place a bad vibe. The drinks are expensive but tasty. more

Below Mike & Noelle's Downtown Standards 5/10/2003

YO it's Mike and Noelle dishin' it to you about the Standard on Sunset. Like Skybar, this place is nice to chill and relax witha group of friends. Don't go here expecting the roof bar at Downtown Standard because you will be dissapointed. The crowd here is generally older and the place itself can get boring. The Lobby and bar are groovy with the nice scantily clad lady sleeping above the reception desk through a glass window. Mike and Noelle say go to this place before your night begins or after it has ended! Pros: Chill, Good Crowd Cons: Can get Boring more

Meets Mike and Noelle's STANDARD! 5/10/2003

This place is so hot right now comin' from Mike and Noelle. The coolest place to lounge and chill. If you're young and hot like Mike and Noelle make sure you go thursday or weekends to avoid the downtown business crowd. Drinks are expensive and get there early to avoid capacity. Once you're up there the view is groovy and the look is chic and modern. Definatley check it out at least once comin' from Mike and Noelle. Pros: Layout and view, Celeb Hangout Cons: Go on the right night, Can get crowded, Downtown sucks more

Attitude 4/30/2003

The service at the Standard is sub-par at best. Attitude from the staff, horrible service at the bar, and too many people trying to be "cool." They don't even seem to remember to give a wake-up call. Our room smelled, the decor was a bad episode of "Trading Spaces," and the atmosphere is too cool to be bothered. Even the elevator seemed to have attitude (kept getting stuck). At $210 a night, I should've dropped a little more and stayed somewhere that knows what the words customer service means. more

The coolest thing here is.. 4/28/2003

the shag carpets. Seriously. I stayed here when a friend visited from out of town, and although it was a reasonable price, considering that it's right on Sunset, I wasn't impressed. There was no air of luxury - in fact, it was jail chic. Really basic. Yeah, it had a CD player but my seven year old cousin has the exact same one! Most of the people in the bar seemed to think they were the cream of the trendy crowd, and the drinks were yummy, if overpriced. This is the place to eye the hot boys. :) Pros: Cool decor, Conveniently placed, Good drinks Cons: Very expensive, Basic more

The view 4/1/2003

The only reason to check out this trendy retro bar is the view. i recommend coming up here during the day to get a glimpse of the city w/ your cocktail. Be warned, the parking under the hotel is tight, to say the least. It also cost 10 bux, so make sure you can get into the bar before you commit. Pros: The view Cons: Too trendy, Weak drinks, Bad parking lot more

Apple Martinis... 3/3/2003

The service is snotty and slow, but the best apple martinis in the city. Also, make a meal of the fried green tomatoes, cup o french fries, and hazelnut shake. May cost you $50 and add another roll to your middle but well worth it! Pros: Open forever Cons: Servers hate you more

GREAT PLACE 3/2/2003

This is one of my favorite places to go in LA. It is a great place to meet people and have good drinks. The service is great, the people are cool and the music is fun. It is a little touristy because it is a hotel too but overall a really fun place to hang out if you don't feel like going to a club. Pros: View, People, Drinks Cons: Touristy, Expensive, Cold in winter more

Impresively lame 2/22/2003

For some reason it was OK back in the early 90s to spend too much for drinks and put up with bartenders and bouncers with chips on their shoulders. Not any more. There are too many sweet places in LA to hang out and not have to put up with that. Yes, this place a fantastic view of Downtown. Yes, zee beautiful people hang out there. But give it a year or two. Let the tourists have it for a while. Great potential. Pros: View, Attractive crowd, Cutting edge Cons: Attitudes, Expensive, Bad service more

Nice Weekend 2/22/2003

We stayed here for a weekend in early Feb. This place was grea. The roof bar makes it a nice place to visit....Great View, Good People, Nice music. Recommend getting a room here - worth the price and easy to kick back after a good night of partying. Pros: View, People Cons: Drink Prices more

Stinks 2/20/2003

I guess I got censored earlier. This place is the SNOBBIEST place I've been to (wife and I go to a lot of places and usually have no problems) The employees are in dire need of an attitude adjustment. Cool factor only lasts so long so I suggest toning it down a bit if they want to stay in business. BTW the Standard on Sunset is MUCH better and far less Snobbish Pros: none Cons: everything more

READ!!! So Much potential but..... 2/16/2003

Let me first say that my review is not based on one occasion but on 5 separate occasions. I started going to the Standard Hotel early last spring when it first opened. I have stayed at the hotel 3 times. Price-wise, the hotel rates are reasonable. The security, bartenders, hotel lobby people are absolutely outrageous. I do not know who hires the people at the Standard but they seriously need to check themselves because it is the service that makes this place so bad. It has so much potential, but ruined it...what a shame. Cons: service, service, service more

Incredible views 2/11/2003

Great place to kick back after work, take in the sunset and watch LA caricatures strut their stuff. The drinks are expensive-- $10 or so-- but at least they're strong. Grab a water bed pod and enjoy the view of the forest of buildings surrounding you. Pros: Amazing view, great ambience & solid DJs Cons: Cover after 7 some nights, expensive drinks more

Not cool. 2/9/2003

This bar must have been started for just pure profit as the service is terrible, the staff is rude, and the scene is not even trendy cool. Its a group of has beens and people who are trying to follow the cool. I'd stay in Hollywood if I wanted to see people attempting to be "in". Its so funny when door people try to create a vibe when youve driven there to pay money. I had no issues getting in but it was funny seeing the orders from the boss to keep a vibe going. Looks good for out of towners maybe or a mag spread/article but when youre there you are wishing you never made the trip. Pros: bar Cons: worn out tired people, vibe is lame, not worth the trip more

Horrible service 2/5/2003

Everytime I've been here, it's all about cool young people working here that think that because they dress cool, look good and work in a hip place it will compensate for horrible service. Well it doesn't. If I'm paying $9.00 per drink or 1$100 for just a table of appetizers, the service better be kick ass, and at the Standard, the service sucks. Pros: great food, good atmosphere, unique Cons: terrible service, value more

OVER-RATED! 1/24/2003

IF YOU WANT TO LOSE YOUR SHIRT, GO HERE AND HAVE MORE THAN ONE DRINK. WORSE YET, HAVE A COUPLE DRINKS AND BUY ONE FOR A FRIEND. THAT $100 WILL NO LONGER BE IN YOUR POCKET. ON TOP OF BEING OVERLY EXPENSIVE, THE WEEKEND CROWD SUCKED!!!! BUNCH OF WANNA-BE'S TRYING TO STRUT THEIR STUFF, WAAAAY TOO COCKY FOR THEIR OWN GOOD. THE MORK FROM ORK CHAIRS ARE NEAT AND BEING ON THE ROOFTOP IS A COOL CONCEPT BUT THERE ISN'T A GREAT VIEW TO PEER OUT AT. WON'T EVER RETURN. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MULA IS MY ADVICE. Pros: ROOFTOP/OUTSIDE Cons: WAY EXPENSIVE!!!!, OVERCROWDED, SCUMMY CROWD! more

Be Warned 1/17/2003

Weekends(thurs-sta) If you dont know someone or aren't on the list dont bother. The only way to get in is to rent a room which only gives you two passes. This place is great if you like paying 10 dollars for a drink(average for hollywood new to LA) and can stand the same hollywood crowd at least on the weekend. Weekdays (mon-wed) if you still reading then here is the real scope. Go mon, tues, wed make sure to get there before 11 that is when they close it to hotel guests and whoever is up there. Definently PreParty before you go. The views great. Great for weekdays dates. Pros: good weekdays, Great veiw Cons: Pricy, Bad Parking, Snooty more

high times! 1/16/2003

the view is as beautiful as the weather and you can kick back with your girlfriends without being harassed! however, it is totally la scene, so be ready to stand in line and be cut in line by self-important people who are trying to get upstairs in five minutes while you've been standing there for 20...but once you're in, the liquor's free flowing and the music's good. note: guys, come in PAIRS only or solo...it'll get you in faster. girls, you get in faster just because :) Pros: strong drinks, ample seating, good music Cons: long wait, weather dependent, women outnumber men more

Standard is SNOOTY 1/10/2003

I tried to have a birthday party there. The bouncers wouldn't let half my friends in and they were totally giving attitude about it. Unless you're a girl, or a guy who comes with lots of girls, don't expect to get in. Even when the roof is windy and there's no freaking poeple up there, the bouncers still won't let up! What a hassle. Pros: the drinks were good. I'd only recommend it if you go with no more than 4-6 people, half of which are women. Pros: good drinks, interesting water bed, atmosphere Cons: snotty bouncers, can't get in after 9, expensive more

  • The all-American diner gets an L.A. makeover at this hotel haunt where beaded curtains replace blinds and hard liquor spikes milk and coffee. Not unlike many a hungover guest, this 24-hour trendoid mecca is ghostly during daylight. But things heat up at night when runway-model waitresses serve hungry clubgoers international comfort food like Croque Monsieur, a French-style grilled cheese with ham and Gruyere on rustic bread. Burgers come with skin-on shoestring fries while ahi tuna tartare and butternut squash soup are other belly fillers for after-hours food fiends looking to sober up.
