Best

I love it here. This is definitely one of my favorite Hollywood spots and I try to frequent the club with friends as much as possible! This is really a great spot...you just need ...

Worst

The view is great. That's what this place definately has going for it. The service is slow and not all that great. Problem is the crowd. There's a ton of tourists and the rest are...

worst service ever! 11/28/2006

i was at the standard about two weeks ago on a saturday and had practically the worst service ever from this hotel. we had a suite at this hotel and the service ws horrible. first off, the front desk men and bouncers gave me major attitude just because i asked them simple questions about going up to the rooftop bar. hello!!!! what do you think these people are paid for? to stand there and not help people? and you know what, you do not even have to pay $20 to get into a fantastic club in west hollywood....that is why this place is lame to charge $20 to get into a lame bar in downtown LA. the rooms are really crappy too. we were in a suite that had the most awful amenities. their sheets are rough and the soap and shampoo they give you is cheap!!!!! just an awful place in general. go stay at the roosevelt or mondrian in hollywood/west hollywood if you want to stay at a REAL LA HOTEL. I'm going to make a complaint to the proper consumer agencies because my experience at this hotel was THAT horrible. my friends from out of town thought they were going to hang out at a cool place. WRONG! Pros: appears cool Cons: service, employees are awful more

Tres chic, but on a budget 11/19/2006

Great for someone that doesn't want to spring for Roosevelt or Four Seasons, plus it's better than the Mondrian. The outside bar/lounge has a great view. I recommend spending a bit more for the larger rooms with views. more

Girls beware 11/17/2006

I have been to the Standard (the bar with the glowing purple sticks, the poolside drink area, & the diner) & I usually have an okay time. Nothing extraodinary about this bar. Girls get in, drinks are good & priced for LA, & the crowd is "hip." Girls should beware though, as the last time I went, my girlfriend was slipped something in her drink, got violently ill, & had to be brought to the hospital in an ambulance. It was especially scary, because the ambulance driver said "this type of thing happens here all the time." Also, being a hotel bar, had I not checked up on her & just left, she could have been brought to a room & been in a really bad situation. Lastly, when I ran out in a hurry to drive behind the ambulance to the hospital, the valet had to wait for me to get cash because the valet costs FORTY DOLLARS. I know LA can be pricey, but $40 for valet? That was the deciding factor for me, never to go back. But, if you cab it, & don't drink, it's a cool atmosphere. Pros: Girls have no trouble getting in Cons: Girls also have no trouble getting roofied more

Lots of Fun 11/14/2006

This place is great if you wanna feel the L.A. life style. Lots of trend people. The rooms are great very trendy and the bar at the top is great. excellent view. more

Expensive Drinks 11/14/2006

I love the view of this place it's especially nice on a warm evening. I have only been there on the weekdays when it as not as crowded. The only problem I found with this place is that the drinks are kind of pricey, but overall it is a nice place to see unisex bathrooms are cool. more

don't even bother 11/4/2006

Although a friend of mine says it's an ok spot to chill at on weekdays, don't even bother on weekends. All they care about is how much dough you can shell out before you can even get in. The staff is incredibly rude. Our party worked out a deal with the manager for $20 a head plus $200 just to go up, but by the time we collected money and got our party together, they told us that the deal was not good enough. We offered another $100 on top of that, but we were ordered to move out of the way and go wait in the lounge area. HELLOOO~!!! Did they not see we were there for a birthday party and had well over 15 heads raring to get our drink on? Obviously, they are too shortsighted to see that we would've spent A LOT of the $$$ that they were so intent on getting if they had let us in. Drinks were expensive anyways...$13 for a glass of redbull with a splash of vodka. Why even bother going to the standard when there's plenty of other stuck-up, pretentious spots in LA to go to. Pros: decor Cons: RUDE staff, expensive weak drinks more

Great atmosphere, good crowd, expensive drinks 11/2/2006

This is a great place to hangout with friends to chill out. Very cool and trendy decor. Not too crazy, unless you go on a night when there is something going on at Staples. If you're a guest at the Standard, ask for wristband to ensure easy access to the Rooftop bar. I have been here on both an empty night and a crowded night and it was way hard to get in. Pros: Trendy, Good crowd, Ambience Cons: Parking, Don't Go on Busy Nights, Expensive Drinks more

Anything but Standard 10/31/2006

If you want an escape from the typical LA bar/club scene, The Standard is the place to be. Located in Downtown LA, the bar comes with nice views of the city skyline, unique setting and decor and overall a good time. I went there for a birthday party and although the cover is $20 the drinks are not expensive and the service is not bad. Getting there earlier (around 9) pretty much guarantees entree the only downside is that its still pretty empty at that time so come with a few friends. The crowd is a mixture of traveling business men to local party goers. Fun place to hang out and dance, so bring some friends and enjoy! Pros: Views, social scene, atmosphere Cons: None more

Overrated 10/30/2006

Sure it is cool to say you stayed there...but really, in comparison to other luxury hotels...this place is just average. You are paying for the hip factor. more

NY views in downtown LA 10/26/2006

this place is amazing. Feels like you are in NY city w/ all the sky scrapers around you, The lighting here is awsome. The hotel is beautiful as well. Much better than it sister property in hollywood (which i think is pretty run down) Pros: awsome views Cons: limited entrance more

Fun Atmosphere 10/26/2006

A bit cheesy on the cheap modernized furniture but fun none-the-less. Great staff, food is fabulous and good times are always going to happen here! more

solid bar/lounge 10/25/2006

The Standard covers all bases...it tends to swing on the trendy side but the diner is pretty chill. Good spot to grab drinks when in LA more

Great Views, Unique & Cool Atmosphere 10/23/2006

Rarely do I trek downtown but for the The Standard's Roof Bar it is 100% worth it. The views are just amazing, and the bar's atmosphere is so neat with this modernist style. I love those big Jetson looking space-pod waterbeds. It's such an experience! I just wish it were closer to the Westside, but it's definitely worth the drive. I had so much fun when I went!!! Pros: Fabulous atmosphere & amazing views, FUN!! more

Great Service 10/10/2006

My husband and I stayed at the Standard on our Honeymoon and it was very romantic. They allowed us to stay just one night, on a weekend, and the front desk was nice enough to put a bottle of Champagne in our room for the occasion (and to my knowledge, we were not charged for it!) I enjoyed the starkness of the rooms and the MOD feeling in the lobby. The diner attached is also very tasty after partying at the clubs on Sunset! Pros: Service, Diner, Interiors Cons: Crowded at night in Lobby more

  • The all-American diner gets an L.A. makeover at this hotel haunt where beaded curtains replace blinds and hard liquor spikes milk and coffee. Not unlike many a hungover guest, this 24-hour trendoid mecca is ghostly during daylight. But things heat up at night when runway-model waitresses serve hungry clubgoers international comfort food like Croque Monsieur, a French-style grilled cheese with ham and Gruyere on rustic bread. Burgers come with skin-on shoestring fries while ahi tuna tartare and butternut squash soup are other belly fillers for after-hours food fiends looking to sober up.
