Best

I love it here. This is definitely one of my favorite Hollywood spots and I try to frequent the club with friends as much as possible! This is really a great spot...you just need ...

Worst

The view is great. That's what this place definately has going for it. The service is slow and not all that great. Problem is the crowd. There's a ton of tourists and the rest are...

4th of july at the Standard 7/4/2009

My friends and I tried to go to the 4th of July event at the Standard suggested on Citysearch. We found ourselves turned away from the door because it was a private party. If there was a guest list the Citysearch article should have mentioned it. Since the girl did not have a guest list and did not ask us what our names were to see if we were on the list i found this hard to believe. My friends and I happily left but not without mentioning the Citysearch article, to which the staff replied that they had never heard of the site. Overall, it was an insulting experience and my interest in hanging out at that place has greatly decreased. more

4th of July 7/4/2009

tried to hit-up their 4th of july pool-side bbq that was publicized on citysearch. tried to get in but staff said it was for guests only. wouldn't have minded as much if it wasn't for the staff being uptight and pretentious about it. Cons: snobby staff rejected visitors more

Great Hangout, Gorgeous View, go on Sundays!!! 6/25/2009

My favorite place to hang on a Sunday Night. Its not too busy, cool couches and fireplace, decent music but mostly a great place to spend some time with friends and enjoy the cool LA nightline. I havent had any bad experiences with doormen, but I recommend trying the back door (take the stairs instead of the elevator) to avoid any rush. Pros: The View, Decent Drinks, Nice Atmosphere Cons: $$$ Parking, Occasionally Bad DJs, Small Dance Floor more

horrible 6/9/2009

What a waste of a view! Music is pop and old at that, the drinks are overpriced, the wait staff is rude and it's full of wannabes trying to look cool. It's bad. Go somewhere else, trust me! Pros: bad music and drinks Cons: everything more

Downtown Standard Roof 5/21/2009

The view is the reason to go here. The drinks are drinks, but pricey. The waitress are good looking, but like to serve some attitude with the drinks. Customers look like they're trying very hard to be cool. Bouncers don't like to let guys in, so I only think about coming really early or on typical dead nights. I don't wait in "Velvet Rope" lines anymore. Come to think of it, I haven't been in a while. After you've taken in the view a few times, the rest of it just gets old really quick. Pros: Great view of downtown. Good DJs usually. Cons: Difficult to get to the roof if you happen to be a guy. more

ROOF BAR 3/24/2009

This place is definitely one of the better places to eat outside...Great spot. This and Club Sushi are my two favorite places to eat outdoor because of both of their scenery. more

You have to read this, I would not have believed it if I had not seen it myself! 2/22/2009

Well I got to this place and stood in the line, I saw the scruffiest looking door guys I have ever witnessed one looked like he was some homeless guy, you get better dressed men on some back street strip club than was here (not that I have been to one ;) ) anyway in this line were groups of girls groups of guys, hotel guests and couples, the doormen all they kept saying was we just want groups of girls dozens of groups of girls over an hour standing there were being sent up stairs, he would also send up couples and occasional a guest of the hotel if he chirped loud enough would be sent up, but no single guys. Well you do not have to be Einstien to work out couples are fine upstairs but single girls in groups are either A going upstairs to meet guys or B going to simply just look at guys. So now what these idiots have is loads of girls upstairs and couples and no single guys. Sure enough less than an hour later the same groups of girls were coming back out the club and walking of I asked one of the girls leaving why and she said its all women and couples up there! The doormen are a joke at this place the hotel is a joke the doormen are disrespectful and scruffy and have no problem having customers stand there for hours with no intention of letting guys in. A big group of people leaving the club, my friend said as there is no one here now and a big group is leaving can we go in? The idiot scruffy doormen said wait there maybe in an hour I cannot guarantee we need girls right now. (You need them idiot because they keep leaving what you running up there a white trade auction?) Avoid this club like the plague and take the advice of people here that say you will waste your night Pros: None Cons: You will waste your night more

Standard 1/23/2009

this standard hotel is okay. I think the one downtown is a lot nicer and the bar area is better because it is on the rooftop. more

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST NEW YEARS VENUE IN TOWN. PERIOD. UNPROFESSIONAL & DISORGANIZED! 1/2/2009

ABSOLUTELY UNCONSCIONABLE !!! One thing I should say for the management of the hotel and the rooftop bar, IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A PROMOTER LIST AND CHARGE VIP ENTRANCE ADMISSION- THEN CLEARLY INDICATE THAT FACT ON YOUR WEBSITE / ADVERTISING!!!! It is New Years Eve and there are people that are looking forward to go to your venue, dressed up and waiting in line, thinking that they are going to have a good time and you ruin their evening. THAT IS HORRIBLE and especially on New Years eve to do that to anyone is WRONG. If VIP entrance would have been offered on your website, then it would have given everyone EQUAL OPPORTUNITY- But no, your club has to use patrons to line up at your venue an give an "exlusive" appeal. Sorry, but there are better venues in the city that did not lead people on. So ladys and gents...don't bother about coming to this place, because they clearly do not respect your business.... Pros: Lobby Bar was good. Cons: Unprofessional, Disorganized Management. more

For the poseur in you: over blown and embarassingly trendy 8/9/2008

Given all the hype, I was very let down by my stay at The Standard. The rooms were tiny, the beds uncomfortable, & the miniscule bathroom left a lot to be desired. I was promised a handicapped accessible room away from the road but when I arrived, a snafu placed me in a non-accessible room facing the very noisy Sunset Strip. I was also stunned to find that my room did not have it's own A/C system, & as an extremely hot-blooded person I was quite upset. The staff explained that during the autumn, the nights are cool & suggested I open a window. I did, but the noise became unbearable & it came down to a choice between being too hot or putting up with the noise. Even though I was exhausted, I finally went out & bought a fan so I could close the window & get some sleep. The lobby/bar area is nice enough & I liked the space-age theme (they have round, plastic hanging chairs you can sit & swing in) & the mood lighting is a nice touch. The drinks are fairly priced, but something about the place seems like they are trying too hard to be cool. In my experience, when you're too cool you quickly become passe. As for celeb-sightings, I've seen more celebrities at The Beverly Hills Hotel and Chateau Marmont than here. Perhaps the glitterati realizes what I do: that the "'latest hot-spot" usually becomes the latest "not-stop". All you're likely to find here are C-Listers & wannabes trying to look cool. Oh & by C-List I mean people Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt wouldn't hang out with. Think about that. If what you're looking for is a too-trendy, boutique hotel with lots of loud drunk partying then this is the place for you. If not, then do yourself a favor & head over to Chateau Marmont. It's on the Strip, so the partier in you can find all the fun you want, but it's also much nicer, much classier, & a lot more relaxing. I don't know about anyone else, but as much as I want my hotel to be fun, I also want it to be restful. And that is not something the Standard can offer. Pros: Low price rooms, 24 hour restaurant, Valet Parking, Popular Bar on property Cons: No in-room A/C controls, tiny bathrooms (except in the suites), noisy, unpleasant staff more

  • The all-American diner gets an L.A. makeover at this hotel haunt where beaded curtains replace blinds and hard liquor spikes milk and coffee. Not unlike many a hungover guest, this 24-hour trendoid mecca is ghostly during daylight. But things heat up at night when runway-model waitresses serve hungry clubgoers international comfort food like Croque Monsieur, a French-style grilled cheese with ham and Gruyere on rustic bread. Burgers come with skin-on shoestring fries while ahi tuna tartare and butternut squash soup are other belly fillers for after-hours food fiends looking to sober up.
