Best

I love it here. This is definitely one of my favorite Hollywood spots and I try to frequent the club with friends as much as possible! This is really a great spot...you just need ...

Worst

The view is great. That's what this place definately has going for it. The service is slow and not all that great. Problem is the crowd. There's a ton of tourists and the rest are...

Hip and Cool 2/4/2006

I like the Standard's Coffee shop... especially after going to the bar. The food is good, was better with the old menu... and priced okay for sunset. sometimes run into a few celebs... waiters are cute... always a plus! more

The Best in LA! 12/15/2005

Last night I went to the Standard downtown for the first time. After reading reviews here I expected a beautiful place, but poor service. I was amazed at how friendly all the staff was. Everyone from security to our waitress were very nice and made sure we had everything we needed. I wouldn't recommend going there to meet people, as most of the other customers seem to be very snobby. Take a friend and enjoy the great atmosphere and good food and drinks. Pros: Great Service, Amazing View Cons: Snobby Customers, Expensive Drinks more

Visiting for a weekend+first date 11/21/2005

I visited California this weekend and went on a first date on Friday after-work time. We had a couple of drinks which I think were about $9 each. The view was cool, including the movie playing on a building next door, plus the waterbed pods were fun. The crowd looked fine, nobody too over-the-top, and it wasn't so crowded that we couldn't get a seat in a pod after enjoying the view. Pros: Decor, View, Smoking, Waterbed seating Cons: Parking, Downtown bums more

WHAT A VIEW !!!!! 11/6/2005

Love Love Love,,,,, the decor, real sexy, cozy it's like you are in a different planet, totally sexy, I liked the crowd, very diverse,,,, only thing I didn't like was the food, it was terrrriiibbleeee, I would never eat there, I know they can do better :-) As long as you go there with a tummy full, you will be aigt to just hang out, and have drinks and enjoy the VIEW:-))))) Pros: View, location, decor Cons: bad food, bad food, bad food more

Fun and Funky! 10/30/2005

Very cool style at the Standard! Hip staff. The 'Lounge' at the Standard is NOT the cafe. I've read reviews that stated it was. The entrance has changed from the side of the building to a back door in the cafe. I've gone to the Standard Lounge many times and it's a very hidden, dark bar in the back. It's entirely PURPLE and looks like a mod jet plane. I love the place and my girlfriends and I go there a lot! It's not good for sitting but if you make friends with anyone who gets 'bottle service' at their table, they may let you sit with them! :) Pros: Cool people, Cool decor, right on the strip Cons: Parking, entrance in cafe, Opens at 10pm more

Nope, never again.... 10/17/2005

Stayed at The Standard, mistake! Yes, we had a big room... a big empty space filled with 1 bed, a couch and a silver bean bag. The CD player didn't work (we called three times... 3 times service attempted to fix it but it only worked for 5 min), we didn't have enough towels, where were the extra blankets/pillows?? The pool was SO tiny, although there were plenty of pool chairs. Their happy hour was blah-they played Top 40... it seemed like everyone disappeared and went to bed right at 2AM! Standard struck me as dated and we were trying to think of ways to get back to The Mondrian, that's where we stayed 3 weeks prior and partied til 5AM along w/ other guests on our balconies. Standard's good for budget travellers who want to sleep on Sunset, but don't rely on much else. Pros: location, budget Cons: dated/boring, amenities??, tiny pool more

Wouldn't Stay There Again 9/8/2005

The location of the Standard is great, but that is where the list of positive aspects about this hotel ends. The service was slow, the rooms were big, but void of any useful amenity. It is nice that every room has a CD player and flat screen TV, but how about towels, extra blankets, an iron or an ice bucket? You get all of those things at any cheap motel, but it is too much to wish for at the Standard. I would go back to hang out in the lounge, but if I want a room - I am going down the street to any of the other hotels in the neighborhood. Pros: Not too pricey, Large rooms, Lounge Cons: Service, No Amenities, Not worth the $ more

The Good, Bad and the Ugly... 8/12/2005

Good: - Great Vibe - Attractive Crowd - Great Music and Dancing Upstairs - Chill Lounge Bad - EXPENSIVE $$$ - Somewhat Snooty - Can Get Busy = Where's the Bartender? - For us guys $20 bucks just to spend 10 more on a drink? Ugly - I personally can't stand the real trendy crowd, they annoy the hell out of me - Can be REALLY hard to get in on the weekend, so have a back up plan 99% of the time I have a blast when I go, I just gotta kick myself to actually get up and go. Food in the downstairs is pretty good too, at a decent value. Pros: Hip & Fun, Great Vibe, Music & Dancing Cons: Prices, Cool Hipsters, Can Get Crowded more

I love/hate the Standard 7/19/2005

I am torn between loving and hating this place. Everytime I go there, the woman at the door is incredibly rude. She gives people dirty looks and acts like she's really important. It's best to keep your mouth shut and not say much; this increases your chances of getting in. Men usually pay $20. Once you are past her, the roof is cool if you can get a good seat. There are always a bunch of empty ones that say "reserved." The overpriced food is quite good, if you can find your waitress, that is. The drinks are hit or miss and the crowd is often a bit pretentious. For some reason the view keeps me coming back. It's a great place to look around at buildings and to people watch. more

Good location...bad management! 7/6/2005

I heard this is the "happening" place to be downtown...little did I know! The line was ridiculous, the staff was very rude, drinks were pricy, and after 5 minutes on the rooftop I realized I had just wasted $20 to get in. The only good thing about this roof bar is the view, but that got old quick! If you are looking for a place to grab a quick drink, you may enjoy this spot, but go before 7pm so you don't waste your money. Needless to say, it wasn't long before we all bailed and went to a club down the road. Pros: the view Cons: pricy drinks/food, rude staff, bad music more

OMG I saw a movie star.... 6/30/2005

This place was a blast. All the people freaking out about the prices, and the food, and the parking... What do you expect on Sunset? Try Pasedena. Like most of the spots in Hollywood, it's hard for guys to get in. However, me and my 2 girlfriends walked right past the line. The VIP area is really nice, and the waitress we had was great. The music wasn't good at all until like 11:30 - it was all 80s stuff at first. After At 11:30, they cut off entrance to the back room because it gets really crowded, so get there early. Oh, yeah... I saw Omar Epps. Total hottie. Pros: Atmosphere, VIP area, crowd Cons: music more

Avoid primetime 4/18/2005

We went Saturday early evening and there was no line. And tis true, the drinks are pretty pricey, but I can't really comment on the service since we only had a couple of martinis and the place wasn't that busy. On the way out the infamous line was forming...and boy were we glad we took the early bird route. Great view and worth at least a drink or two just to see it even in the daylight. Pros: view Cons: expensive more

Great time 3/22/2005

this bar is fun and cool to look at. you'll have a great time getting trashed there. Pros: hotties, stiff drink, inexpensive Cons: somewhat small more

Wasted potential 3/15/2005

With it's great views and rooftop pool and bar, the Standard had little competition standing in its way of becomming the best bar in downtown. HOWEVER, add a lot of cheap tacky furniture, cheap tacky people, ridiculously expensive (and almost always incorrectly made) drinks, horrible food and the most incompetent and rude staff imaginable and the Standard easily wins the title of the WORST bar in downtown. If you can overcome the need to feel cool, I highly recommend you try anywhere else. Pros: Outside, Good views Cons: Staff, Food, Attitude more

If you're downtown, might as well go 2/15/2005

One of the few places to go in downtown - great views, interesting people (as interesting as you can get in LA). Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been - not sure if it's worth a special trip out to downtown, but if you're in the area, check it out. Drinks are pricey, but i guess that's expected. Pros: View more

great spot 1/10/2005

this is one of my favorite spots in LA - and well worth the trek to downtown. beautiful views under the stars. the occassional celebrity sighting, beautiful people. the drinks are a bit pricey and the line to get in can sometimes be an issue if you have a big party - but it's a great LA experience to be on this hot rooftop bar. Pros: hot spot, beautiful view Cons: , parking expensive, line to get in more

Cool Place in the City 9/14/2004

Been here on several occasions. The first time I went to The Standard, it was a Saturday night at 11:00PM. Big mistake.........they weren't letting anymore people up to the pool. On the other occasions I patronized the Standard, I had no problems getting in. I'd highly recommend going there on Monday or Tuesday nights. It's a pretty relaxing place ot hang with a group of friends. Drinks are pricey, but that's expected at a place like this. The view and atmospher of downtown LA are spectacular! Pros: Atmosphere Cons: , Expensive more

  • The all-American diner gets an L.A. makeover at this hotel haunt where beaded curtains replace blinds and hard liquor spikes milk and coffee. Not unlike many a hungover guest, this 24-hour trendoid mecca is ghostly during daylight. But things heat up at night when runway-model waitresses serve hungry clubgoers international comfort food like Croque Monsieur, a French-style grilled cheese with ham and Gruyere on rustic bread. Burgers come with skin-on shoestring fries while ahi tuna tartare and butternut squash soup are other belly fillers for after-hours food fiends looking to sober up.
