Best

I love it here. This is definitely one of my favorite Hollywood spots and I try to frequent the club with friends as much as possible! This is really a great spot...you just need ...

Worst

The view is great. That's what this place definately has going for it. The service is slow and not all that great. Problem is the crowd. There's a ton of tourists and the rest are...

Less than Zero 8/31/2004

I went for a birthday party for a friend. Arrangements had already been made as far as any cover charge, so I really can't speak for the "greasing" of doormen. While I probably won't go back just to hang, I would say that it is a true city bar experience. There was definitely a "Less Than Zero" quality to the place, with a lot of people trying to make sure you notice how much they don't want you to notice them. Fun place to be with a group, I wouldn't enjoy going there solo. Make sure that you know how to get there, getting lost in that area can really be uncomfortable Pros: Roof Top, '80s L.A. Vibe more

It once was... 4/13/2004

As tends to happen in Lalaland... this once secret but happening place has become a hang-out for the fakers. Unfortunate, but you can still experience its original greatness during weeknights. more

NEVER AGAIN..... 4/6/2004

RUDEST employees I've ever encountered in my life. If you want to get up to the roof-top, be prepared to be shaken down by the doormen and "speak their language" which is CASH (and a lot of it). This means paying twice as I saw a man pay $100 to the doormen at the escalator and then be turned away by the doormen at the top. The crowd was lame at best (tourists, drag queens, and loosers) for the most part. SO NOT WORTH THE AGGRIVATION NOR THE DISRESPECT! Pros: great view, cool decor Cons: , offensive "doormen", expensive drinks more

A hip Denny's with limited menu. 3/13/2004

Got there at 9PM on a Friday. Heard a 5 minute speech about valet parking rates...sort of confusing. Get validated! Got seated by nice girl. Have full bar. But drinks are $12 a piece! My sirloin burger was cheaper with fries! The calmari is not very good...even though the waitress said they "Rock!" The inside lounge was cool but freezing cold. Left before midnight... Pros: Cool setting, good burger, food $ resonable Cons: , Calamari not good more

Love this place! 2/2/2004

My friends and I go to this bar all the time. It is a lot of fun. The doormen, bartenders, wait staff, and security team are always really cool to us. We have always found it to be a good place to just kick back with a group of friends. The music is fun to dance to as well. Yes, the drinks are pricey, but they are usually pretty strong which is good. I like this place and would recommend it. Pros: Strong drinks, Fun music, Great view Cons: , Valet is $25 more

Way Overrated 12/29/2003

This place is a joke. Their modern look is cheap and poorly put together. The pool is about the size of a hot tub and looks as if it has never been cleaned. To top it all off, they added a bunch of bogus mini bar charges to my credit card which they removed after a couple of calls. Despite all of this, the location is good for bar-hopping and the price for the room wasn't outrageous. Pros: Cheap Rooms, Good Location, Good Lobby Music Cons: Cheap Rooms, Worthless Pool, Poor Service more

Beautiful and Fun 12/10/2003

I had a great time. I went during the week and there was no cover. There were a lot of people but it was not to crowded like many other trendy bars. The view is amazing and the design of the place is beautiful. It was a chilly night and the fire-place and heat-lamps made it a great and relaxing place to hang out with friends. If you like trendy then go and enjoy - if you don't, then go somewhere else. Pros: Great View, Beautiful Decor more

Deja vu... 10/26/2003

it's just too bad that such a great bar has gone to waste... if you want to see the same club hoppers you saw on saturday at your ex fav club.. go there.. it's horrifying how everyone looks the same... and way overpriced.. it's better to go during the week to beat the same crowd.. Pros: good music, good view, good rooms Cons: expensive, over-hyped more

It's not worth it! 10/8/2003

The best part of my dinner was the breadstick that came with my yellowtail cappaccio which was far too sour to taste. I also ordered the daily special leg of lamb and it definitely wasn't worth the $20. The worst part of the dinner was the staff, especially the "supervisor" (well I think he was the supervisor as he dressed in something different plus he wasn't doing anything), he didn't come around and ask about the food, he didn't say hi or thank you, and he didn't even smile at his customers! Cons: Staff attitude, Food's not that great more

you've got to FIND the bar first... 8/31/2003

i'd been to the Standard several times: to stay, to eat, to drink, before i ever found the bar proper. it's got a separate entrance, cool DJ's, no attitude a the door, and good service. a nice place to chill with friends. kind of looks like a strip joint, though. Pros: chill, small crowd, good service Cons: hard to find, dark, kind of loud more

Don't waste your time here 8/13/2003

This has got to be the most overrated place on the planet. I stopped by with a friend to get a late bite to eat after seeing some music, and the wait service was abysmal. The hostess had so much attitude, you would have thought you were in Paris with an American Flag tattooed to your forehead. Just awful, after waiting to be seated for 15 minutes in a half-empty restaurant, and then waiting another 15 minutes for a waiter to show up at our table, we decided to spend our hard earned money elsewhere Don't believe the hype! Stay as far away from this place as you can. Cons: Attitude, Unprofessional waiter more

sub-Standard 8/11/2003

We had the biggest suite and a couple deluxe rooms. Hotel security came up twice saying we were too loud. Too loud at the Standard! Place advertises itself as one big party, and it was only 3 am! Rooms are equipped with IKEA-esque furniture! One big RIPOFF. Pros: Location, Bar Cons: Management, Price, Rooms more

perfect pool 8/7/2003

Had problems before with getting back in once going downstairs to the cafe to eat. But most recent visit was great. We went swimming in the beautiful pool at 1am, the water was perfect. Shared a water-bed pod with several different people, Everyone was friendly and happy, the music was great Pros: Friendly people, good music, great pool Cons: expensive drinks, can be hard to get in more

Not so great... 6/23/2003

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The location is great, and the decor is quite cool (although it gets old fast), but the service is absolutely awful. Awful. Particularly poolside where guests are outnumbered by pretentious LA brats. And the drinks aren't even worth waiting for, unless you like watered down, expensive cocktails. You're not safe with room service either - it takes a good hour to get a couple of appetizers. But I can't really complain. It's pretty inexpensive and there are great views. And they actually remembered my wake up call (much to my surprise). Pros: Fairly Inexpensive Cons: Crowded, Terrible service, Horrible drinks more

100% Pretentious 5/22/2003

The view of the city is outstanding, but that is the only reason to check the bar out. Drinks are horrifically overpriced and the crowd acts as if you should bow down and offer to buy drinks for them. more

Good place to chill 5/18/2003

Definitely a cool place to bring a group of friends and end the night... it's got a really chill vibe, and it's a place you gotta see at least once. It's a lot of fun, as long as you don't have to blow too much on their overpriced drinks (you basically pay for being high). Pros: Laid Back, Retro Styling, Atmosphere Cons: Drink Price, Service more

  • The all-American diner gets an L.A. makeover at this hotel haunt where beaded curtains replace blinds and hard liquor spikes milk and coffee. Not unlike many a hungover guest, this 24-hour trendoid mecca is ghostly during daylight. But things heat up at night when runway-model waitresses serve hungry clubgoers international comfort food like Croque Monsieur, a French-style grilled cheese with ham and Gruyere on rustic bread. Burgers come with skin-on shoestring fries while ahi tuna tartare and butternut squash soup are other belly fillers for after-hours food fiends looking to sober up.
