Don't wait! A great time waiting to be had. 10/18/2006

I have been meaning to go to The Acorn since it opened a few years ago, but for some reason, last week was my first time in. My friends have all been saying how good it is, and they were right. I took a date, and did not make a reservation. The place was nearly full, but we did not have to wait at all for a table. We were greeted with a smile when we walked through the door, and our server was just as kind. Wine knowledge is not my strong suit, and our server helped steer me in the right direction without making me look bad. The food was amazing and plentiful! We both cleaned our plates and did not leave room for dessert, so we are going back there on our second date! Pros: Friendly staff, great food & wine more

No referral here--Waited 30 minutes for a reservation made a week in advance 10/14/2006

The Acorn is a good restaurant, but, it is not the best in town. Pros: upper veranda Cons: had to wait 30 minutes for our reservation, slow service, staff apathy more

New Desserts & Martinis! 7/2/2006

Have you heard? The Acorn has a new Pastry Chef AND a new martini list! This is one of our favorite restaurants because of the consistently wonderful food and unusually great service. We always feel like VIP's when we go, and we love trying the Chef's special entrees. We saw the Pastry Chef on one of the local News shows, and had to go in to try her desserts! Wow! Don't miss the Pear and Aniseed Gateaux! We tried two of the new martinis, and they were both to die for! Go sit on the best patio in the city, have dinner and a martini, and save room for dessert! Pros: Great Food and Service, 2nd floor patio! Cons: Get a babysitter - Not great for kids more

Avoid Bait and Switch Happy Hour 6/15/2006

Acorn seemed like a great place for happy hour on their open air patio and had some great specials as HEAVILY advertised on radio. It was after we were seated when my friends and I were informed that happy hour didn't apply to the patio. This is NOT mentioned anywhere on their website or radio ads. In fact, on the website, patrons are encouraged to go out on the patio right next to description of happy hours. You could see how one would be confused. The waitress happily informed us that it was ok, we could just order off the menu. I would expect to be treated like that at a used car dealership, but not a restaurant. It's just shifty and blatant gauging. We were also the literally the ONLY people in the entire restaurant which seemed odd. There are so many great restaurants in Nashville, I'd recommend patronizing them rather than this place. more

WOW... 4/29/2006

The food was terrific. The ambience amazing. I love the candles and decor. The music made it even better. Parking should not be an issue since valet is available. Pros: great food, great service, great ambience more

should have listened to what was written 4/6/2006

The Acorn is a lovely place with a warm atmosphere and very nice employees. However, the food was tastless and overdone. I asked for my salmon to be medium, but the cook served me the end piece and upside-down so the dark part showed, and the filet was too thin to cook it medium. For $22, I expected a better piece of fish, and the accompanying risotto was pasty. My dinner companion did say her scallop appetizer was good, however. Pros: lovely atmosphere, great al fresco, very nice staff Cons: mediocre food, high prices more

typical nashville: low value and overpriced 3/30/2006

Like most Nashville restaurants in the ""upscale"" price range, the Acorn disappoints. My party got the tuna, lamb, and NY strip. The lamb shank was overpowered by a KC Masterpiece BBQ-like sauce. The Strip was properly cooked to medium, but the outside was so charred that the overwhelming flavor was charcoal briquette. Additionally, the cut was thinner than what youd get at Outback. The tuna was the best selection; however, it was not of the same taste quality as you might find in similarly or lower priced restaurants. I'd happily pay $10 for a plate of the rice, however. On the plus side, our server was excellent and knowledgeable. We also enjoyed our appetizers: scallops and fried eulachon (a special). The pear salad was also good; the dressing on the Greek salad was poorly prepared and the olives were of low quality. Pros: appetizers, service Cons: value, entrees more

My new Friday night spot... 3/15/2006

I was invited by a co-worker to a business dinner at the Acorn. I had heard the name, but had never dined there. Though initially hard to find, this remodeled house was alive and buzzing. The decor was warm and inviting, setting the tone for our meal. I enjoyed my lamb shank, and my co-workers were thrilled with their choices - two filets and a salmon. The server was attentive and not over-the-top, and we left fully satisfied. I am glad to have found my new Friday night spot. Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Service more

If you don't mind poor food, this might do 3/11/2006

The ambience is trendy and intersting, with one of Nashville's most attractive outdoor dining venues, on a breezy 2nd floor veranda. The problem is the food. It is not just poorly prepared, as might occur on an off-night, but bad in concept. The lettuce-wrapped beef apetizer is sticky, sweet and stewed. The calamari arrives at your table only minutes after your order is in, and is soaked in oil and heavy breading. The salads are over priced and dull, the bread is ordinary . . . virtually every item on the menu is overpriced. There are far better choices. Pros: out door veranda, interesting setting Cons: food, food, food more

A Fabulous Experience! 12/31/2005

My wife and I finally stole some rare time away from our young children and decided to spend it at The Acorn. We couldn't have made a better decision! The relaxing, romantic atmosphere was the perfect setting for our evening getaway. The food was to die for and our server, Sandra, was perfectly attentive. We suggest the Halibut and the New York Strip, but don't leave without trying to Chocolate Grand Marnier Cake! Thank you Acorn for a wonderful evening! We look forward to visiting again. Pros: Romantic, Eclectic, Food more

Not romantic! 12/2/2005

I chose the Acorn because I planned to ask my girlfriend to marry me. I called during the week and specifically asked the hostess if we could get a quiet, romantic table. I was assured we could. When we arrived, we were seated in the middle of a room under heat lamps with a view of concrete and plastic. The biggest problem was that it was clear that there would be tables with groups of 20 or more people in the room with us. Not quiet and romantic. When I talked to the hostess, she said she could move us, but all the rooms had parties in them. Basically, I think that on the phone she told me what I wanted to hear. We left, and we won't be going back. I do NOT recommend this restaurant for a quiet, romantic evening. Cons: Not Romantic, Parties in every room more

Wonderful experience 7/14/2005

Being new to Nashville I was somewhat stressed out about where to take my wife for our 1 year anniversary. I obviously wanted it to be special, and I must say The Acorn delivered. Everything, the atmosphere, the service, and especially the food were outstanding. I didnt think you could get such fresh seafood this far inland. I had a Halibut dish that was exceptional. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an amazing dinning experience. more

Best bartenders 6/1/2005

I love this place! I have never actually had the food, but the bar scene is wonderful! The upstairs bartender on Saturday nights is the best in town! more

On The Fence 5/3/2005

First of all, I love the feel of the restaurant, and the service was great. However, I felt the menu to be somewhat overpriced. The almond-crusted calamari was virtually flavorless, though the portion size was more than ample. But what good is a big portion if you don't enjoy the food included in it? Our entrees were fine, but not worth $24 and $27 . . . presentation could be worked on (must everything be served in a big bowl like a stew?), and my salmon was overwhelmed by the very rich shrimp bisque it swam in. If you have the money, it's not a bad place for dinner by any means. But if you want the most for your money when dining out, there are definitely better places in Nashville. Pros: service, atmosphere, creativity Cons: prices, overall food taste more

Fine Dining like Nashville's never seen... 4/11/2005

Walking into The Acorn was like walking into a restaurant on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles, but with the warm personality so true to the south. From the moment we walked in, we were amazed by the attentive and friendly staff, delectable dishes, and hard-to-find wines. The view of the copper fountian from the deck upstairs only added to our experience. We couldn't leave without endulging in the Acorn chocolate cake that we had seen at the next table, and were more than satisfied by the delicious, and generously portioned chocolate layers. We now know where to take business clients for dinner when we need to impress them, and where to go when we need a little pampering ourselves. Nashville is truly lucky to be home to a restaurant this dynamic. Pros: martinis, atmosphere, great food! more

Very Disappointed 2/14/2005

My wife and I have been looking forward to a Valentine's dinner at the Acorn for quite some time. Most of the Pre Fix menu was pretty good, at least until we got to the entree. When I cut into my Grilled Balsamic Pork Chop it was RAW. The waiter was very nice about taking it back, but when he returned with the plate, I cut it again and it was STILL UNCOOKED. Mistakes happen....once, but for the prices The Acorn charges, there's no excuse for sending food out wrong TWICE. Theydid adjust the price by taking the inedible entree off my bill. Gee.. thanks! As far as value, The Acorn is the only restaurant I know that has the nerve to sell a SCREW TOP bottle of Lindeman Sauvignon Blanc for $27. Unless you don't care about price or food quality, you'd be ""nuts"" to go to the Acorn. more

Mixed review? 2/7/2005

After dining there with 5 other friends, I would have to agree with half of the posts so far. Specifically that the food is a primary issue of concern in terms of price versus quality. For the money, its not worth a return trip, but if trendy is your scene then this is the place for you. I have a feeling that some of these marketing add ""posts"" I have read are well written to counter a serious issue food enthusiasts have with Acorn. Pros: Decor Cons: Value more

I don't get it 11/11/2004

What is the deal with trendy n-ville restaurants and only average food/service? If you are going to charge $30.00 per entree, it better be good. On my first and only visit here I went with the filet. It was an average cut of beef, at best. My wife had a vegetarian entree that she likened to shredded cabbage with a pixie stick poured on top. Open your minds, expand your menu, and stop skimping on meat cuts. more

Dining has never been this GOOD! 7/11/2004

This page does not have enough room for me to express just how much I LOVE The Acorn! Everything, from the way I was greeted to the last bite of key lime pie, was the BEST dining experience I have ever had! I have recommended this restaurant to all my friends and after eating here, they all feel exactly the way I do! If you haven't had the pleasure of eating at The Acorn, then make reservations...NOW! more

WONDERFUL 2/5/2004

WE had a party of 13 or more, and their service was great. We ordered appetizers, drinks, meal, and desserts, and everything was served in wonderful time. I recommend the Acorn 100%! more
