Great Spa - Give it a try! 8/14/2007

The first time I went here was last year for a waxing and have been coming back ever since. The staff has always been pleasant and courteous. I would have to recommend asking for Amber if you want a wax. After formally living in Scottsdale, AZ and going to some wonderful spas there, I would have to say Amber is one of the best I have ever gone to. She does a really good job and almost made me forget I was having hair pulled out of places that normally makes a person scream. I have also gone in for a spa pedicure and thoroughly enjoyed that little slice of heaven. What?s not to love, a glass of wine, massage chair and being pampered is one of life?s many pleasures. I?ll be back again next month. more

Laser Hair Removal isn't permanent. 8/1/2007

I had 2 areas of laser hair removal done earlier this year in hopes that I wouldn't have to shave or wax come summertime. I did 4 sessions on each area and while I was still being treated I saw minimal hair regrowth but now, about 4 months later, my normal hair growth has returned. There was never a guarantee that the hair wouldn't come back but I didn't expect for normal hair growth to return so quickly. Maybe it was the equipment or maybe I need 10 treatments to make it permanent (which would cost an insane amount of money) but all I know is that I am still shaving and waxing. Just be warned that laser hair removal may or may not work as well as you hope. Pros: Good selection of services. Nice ambience. Cons: Parking is horrible! Rude receptionist. Really expensive compared to other local salons/spas. more

Divine treat! 5/29/2007

My daughter treated me to the Divine Renewal treatment for Mother's Day. So appropriately named, I did feel divine and renewed! My therapist, Miriam, was wonderful and very talented. The spa is comfortable and beautiful. I would recommend this treatment and this spa to anyone looking to feel very special, and for special gift-giving. I plan on returning the favor for my lovely daughter! more

Not Recommended 5/23/2007

Myself and two girlfriends spent the day at your spa in back in November for my 40th birthday. We all purchased the Ultimate Spa package. We were unaware of this but the spa was running very behind. The salt glow body scrub was wonderful but that was about it. The majority of the staff was unfriendly. We were all rushed through our manicures/pedicures and the staff seemed really upset our appointments were running so late. All of our makeup turned out horrible and had to be redone once we left. We had the whole day scheduled out so we would have plenty of time to go back to the hotel we were staying and get ready for my party. We all ended up leaving and 1 1/2 late and I still had wet hair! The girl simply said there wasn't enough time and after I saw what they had attempted to do to my girlfriends, I was glad she didn't have time to get ahold of my hair! No apologies or refunds were offered and the gratutities were automatically calculated into our bills, which is horrible!! All three of us emailed and called to complain with absolutley no response!! One of my friends had never spent the day at a spa before and this was a horrible first impression!! I have never been treated so poorly and I was terribly embarressed! I took my friends there and asked them to each spend over $400 to spend my birthday with me with an end result of us having to do our own hair and makeup. Not to mention I was over an hour late for my own party! Pros: Good salt glow scrub Cons: too many to list more

BEST SPA TREATMENT AND MASSAGE......CHECK IT OUT! 5/10/2007

I seldom do reviews but wanted to express my appreciation to the entire staff at Spa Sasse'. I was greeted immediately and made to feel very welcome and relaxed about my decision as a "guy" to venture into "spa land". Guys, if you havent treated yourself.......... you should go for it. I was thinking of a basic one hour massage concentrating on a previous shoulder issue. I asked them for some options and they showed me everything that was available. Check out the "Crescendo" ! The best experience you will ever have for men or women. Talk about being pampered.............I recommend it highly! Thanks again for the great experience. I will be back! Pros: Relaxed environment and convenient for downtown and just a quick trip across the bridge for me on the East side. Cons: You want to go back right away! more

unimpressed 5/7/2007

I was not impressed with this spa. Both women working there seemed unfriendly and impersonal. The person who gave me my treatment wasn't able to answer my questions. They seem uneducated about the lasers. The treatment I received did not have any visible effects that had been claimed on the phone. It is very clean and they have nice products for sale. But I would never recommend this spa or return. Pros: good products for sale Cons: difficult parking more

Convenient, ease of scheduling appointments & excellent Brazilian waxes! 5/2/2007

I travel alot to Portland and Spa Sasse' is one of my favorites! They are always willing to see if they can 'make time' for me & scheduling has never been a problem. I love the convenience of the Downtown location...so near my usual Hotel. I enjoy the relaxed feel there and am very impressed with the professionalism, especially in regards to the Brazilian Waxes. Excellent service......Thank you very much! I highly recommend this Spa. more

The best massage I have ever had 4/30/2007

I had heard great things about Spa Sasse' over the years but have never had the pleasure of the experience until recently. Prior to my appointment I had noticed the door leading downstairs but had no idea how spacious and calming this spa was - right oin the middle of downtown Portland! When I arrived I was greeted by a very friendly staff member who offered me tea and water. Amanda gave relaxing massage I have ever had - and I have had many. She took extra time to make sure which areas of my back needed extra work and focued on those areas. Throughout the hour she checked in to make sure she was addressing the problem areas and made sure I was comfortable. This is the best kept secret in Portland, hands-down. more

Disappointed with Service and Quality 4/24/2007

We were very disappointed with our recent trip to Spa Sasse'- This was a special "date night' for me and my husband, so we tried the couples massage The Quality of Service, Ambiance, everything was below standards. We would not recommend it- We were the last appt. of the evening and did not receive a full hour massage, the appt. started late and ended early. I emailed the Spa directly with my concerns on service and just quality overall and have not heard back from them. Very disappointed with that aspect as well - We were not given robes as stated on their website, the linens in the room were thin, the towels were cheap and rough on your face- I felt for the money, there are many more Spa options to try out. where you can leave feeling like you have just been pampered- more

Easy to get in and great service...experienced Brazilian waxes 4/6/2007

I have been to this place five times now and it is the best! I tried several different spas and the service and atmosphere here is always wonderful! Try the vichi massage/shower!!!!! It's my heaven! They are incredibly experienced with Brazilian waxes, as well. Pros: Great downtown location, easy to get an appointment, great customer service, never had my hair done here Cons: Didn't like my manicure or pedicure, but it could have been an off day; price is a little higher more

Mediocre overall 3/30/2007

I had a body wrap and facial at this spa. I thought I'd get a full 1 hour body wrap and 1 hour facial, since I was paying for them as separate treatments, each supposed to last one hour). Instead, the woman combined them, so I had bright lights and extractions going on during the body wrap, making it very hard for me to relax and enjoy it (and it didn't last a full 2 hours). I also felt like I was being given a sales pitch on the products during my treatment (i came to relax, not be advertised to). When I went to pay, there were products on the counter (which I expressed no interest in) and the woman was trying to walk me through the product brochure until I just said "I'm not buying anything today." The other person who then processed my payment loudly asked "do you want to add on a gratuity?" to which I replied, "uh, ok - 10%". I should have just said I didn't feel the service I received warranted a tip, but I felt put on the spot with other people around listening. I have to say the surroundings were nice, but the service did not live up to my expecations. Pros: Ambience Cons: not friendly service, too much sales pitching more

Simply Amazing 3/9/2007

I really didn't know what to expect from the Crescendo package my girlfriend bought me for valentines day. Reading the website description and not knowing what any of the services were didn't help, as you can probably tell I don't get many professional massages. :-) What happened when I got there was one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had. At one point during the massage I couldn't feel the rest of my body, it was quite possibly the most relaxed I've ever been. The rain shower massage felt like a warm blanket of clouds on my back. I am officially addicted now and will return the favor to my girlfriend and purchase the Crescendo for her so we can talk about the experience together. Two thumbs way up! Pros: Perfect all around Cons: Parking! more

I'm definitely going back! 2/13/2007

The surroundings were warm and inviting. I had a pumpkin enzyme beta c-peel the results were fabulous! I'm going back for the herbal peel. I look forward to my next visit! more

Great ambiance, service.....truely an oasis in the heart of downtown!! 2/5/2007

I was turned on to spa sasse by a friend, and have been hooked ever since!! I love the couples massages they offer, and have gone for the last two years to their Valentine's couples massage, which I would highly recommend. I recently had my nails, hair and a massage treatment for my birthday, and Kimberly did a fantastic job on my hair. I have been seeing different hair dressers for the past three years since moving back to Portland, hoping to find one I am happy with. I wondered why I never tried spa sasse for my hair, when I have been happy with their massages and other services. I gave it a try and finally found a hairdresser I will be able to go back to! I will definitely be going back to see Kimberly because she gave me a color weave and hair cut, that I couldn't be happier with. The spa just started carrying a yummy line of desert-smelling lotions and oils called Dish, that I would highly recommend! The atmosphere is great at spa sasse, there is privacy and soft music, a place where you can truely relax, and forget that you are right downtown! Pros: Ambience, Service, Atmosphere, Range of Services, great expertise Cons: parking more

I'm Hooked! 2/4/2007

I cannot believe the review that knocked the ambience. I?ve been a customer of Spa Sasse? for many years, frequently getting massage and facials. The ambience is lovely, quiet, full of soothing music, and always smells wonderful. The moment you walk in the door, it smells and feels like an oasis from the noisy streets outside. The staff is always very friendly, and excellent at what they do. I have always had very good experiences, and I?ve been there many, many times. I find it comfortable and relaxing. I have recommended it to friends who always come back with rave reviews. I?m hooked, and so are several of my colleagues. I Highly recommend Spa Sasse? For a special treat, try the Crescendo - it's AMAZING! Pros: Pleasant ambience, friendly, skilled, selection of services, good product lines more

Quintessentially Highly Recommended 1/15/2007

If you go to a Spa Just for the Atmosphere Spa Sasse isn't for You. BUT if you go to get quality service it's the place to go. I've been to a number of High End Spas and no one has compared to what Spa Sasse has to offer. Molly is awesome and for a day of complete Heaven try the "Quintessential Spa Retreat" You WILL return after having that. Pros: Great Packages Cons: Parking more

My favorite getaway in Portland 12/19/2006

I travel to Portland for business frequently and discovered Spa Sasse? years ago. I love the work that has been done to transform this basement into a beautiful spa. The ambiance is relaxing, intimate and cozy with candlelight and lovely decor. You forget you?re right downtown in the middle of the city! The services I regularly have are always wonderful ? a superb water massage called the Crescendo, a pedicure and a facial. The staff are friendly, professional and accommodating. I always look forward to this little escape and plan extra time in my schedule for it. It?s my favorite getaway in Portland! Pros: Ambience, parking, service more

Not Impressed! 12/18/2006

My girlfriend recently suprised me with a couples' day of pampering at Spa Sasse and I was totally excited at the idea. To be blunt the excitement ended there....Our day started off with a rather anit-social/rude staff that never seemed to have a clue as to what our schedule was supposed to include...We were constantly left feeling lost and unattended to (including being left in the main hallway in our robes and waiting for someone, anyone to come tell us what was next). We are a young couple and although we have a lot of life to live we have definitely experienced the finer things in life and none of those did we experience here... Very cheap decor with fake flowers everywhere, sub-par salads that came as part of our package, and an unusual amount of noise for a spa (could here loud laughing and voices while getting massages). In our opinion a spa should have similar noise rules to a library, very quiet and relaxing environment and with those who are there being completely respectful of the others around them.... Although we enjoyed the pedicures and manicures, we could have gone without the awkward personal conversations between the two employees....it was ongoing and the type of situation where you can't leave and feel as if you need to smile and act interested to avoid being rude. So in closing, the massage was enjoyed by both, as was the bath with the truffles but still A LOT of room for improvement. more

Excellent Massages... 12/8/2006

If you want a good, relaxing massage- then I highly recommend the services of a lovely Ora and a lovely Molly. Both proffesional and attentive. If you like deep tissue, Ora is your girl. She has been with the Spa for a long time, so she's easy to find when you need to relax. She has been my massage therapist for years. I hope she never moves away! Thanks again, and can't wait for the next massage :D Pros: Great massages! (try the Crescendo!) Cons: High turnover of staff...hmmm... more

HEAVENLY FACIAL! 12/7/2006

My darling bought me a gift card for my birthday. I had a European facial that was absolutely heavenly - I ended up buying three of the products used! The atmosphere was friendly and upscale but not stuffy ? very comfortable and relaxing. I had personalized service and my aesthetician was very knowledgeable. My face was cleansed, exfoliated, extracted, masked, toned and massaged. She also rubbed and smoothed tons of yummy concoctions over my face, neck, chest, hands, arms, legs and feet. I left there feeling like a million bucks. I?m hinting for another gift card and looking forward to return for more! - Cassie H. more
