Awesome experiance 12/4/2009

Very friendly and accommodating. Very soothing atmosphere. My massage sent me to another plane of existence. Just what I needed! Can’t wait to go back. Pros: Just what I needed Cons: I can't go everyday more

Perfect place to relax in the city! 12/3/2009

When you walk by this spa, it doesn’t look like much from the outside, but DO go in! My first sensory treat was the wonderful aromas that filled my olfactory system as I entered ~ from all the bath bombs and sea salts they sell. It’s much, much larger inside than it looks from the outside. I was greeted by friendly staff and picked up a brochure. After perusing the extensive menu of services, I chose a massage, facial and a pedicure. They were able to get me in right away and escorted me into the back where I changed into a soft white robe & slippers, relaxed with some hot tea, munched a few cookies and filled out a form. My first service was the massage. I have had many, many massages but this had to be the BEST massage ever! She was highly knowledgeable about several techniques and used a combination of them on me (I really love the stretching part!) and had a real gift for finding the sore spots and working them out. I was so relaxed! Next came the facial, and my esthetician also was highly knowledgeable. I had been feeling clogged and congested, and was somewhat worried about the facial part because I have experienced all kinds of nasty rashes and breakouts from past experiences, but am always open to try a new place. The product line she used was heaven, and my skin felt great afterwards. No pushy sales of products, either. (Which I really appreciate). Lastly, my pedicure. I was escorted to a massaging pedicure throne with whirlpool bath, very nice. My pedicurist seemed to actually enjoy giving me a pedicure. (I cannot imagine that!) My feet were soft as a baby’s bottom when she finished and my polish job was perfect. All in all, it was a great experience for me and I highly recommend this spa. The décor is nice but not over-ritzy. Even though it’s right downtown, it is very quiet and soothing. The staff is pleasant and welcoming but not overly-so. There is no feeling of snootiness or pushing of products. If you want to relax downtown Portland, this is the place. more

The BEST!!! 10/19/2009

A co-worker told me about the couples spa day, so I took my wife for our anniversary and WOW. Fantastic massage and the water treatment was out of this world! The food was great, the staff was great, the whole day was great. We will be back!? Pros: Best massage and spa treatment more

RUDE customer service 8/17/2009

Took my husband for a couples massage and the massages themselves were just OKAY. The atmosphere was not romantic, the tables were tiny, and the therapists made us uncomfortable. The worst part of it all- the RUDE receptionist. We will never go back simply because of her attitude. Cons: being treated like garbage more

Great massage & facial! 4/25/2009

I was referred to Spa Sasse by my hotel concierge and could not thank him enough! I arrived in Portland for business and after a long flight was in need of some pampering. My massage and facial were heavenly, especially because my therapists were so attentive to my every need. I came in achy and drained and left feeling renewed and pampered. Highly recommended! more

Best massage I've ever had 4/13/2009

I have been at this spa 5 times for various treatments. Massages, pedicures and facials. All were great but I especially enjoy the massage. The lmt's are very professional and wont talk to me unless I initiate conversation. The product's they use for massage smell heavenly and are all natural. The massage frappe' is made of all natural products and leaves the skin very hydrated! This is a must try. I have read some of the reviews and realize how many people are just unhappy. I will continue to get massages etc. here whenever I am in Portland. Pros: wonderful natural products Cons: parking more

horrible spa experience 4/7/2009

I was excited for my day at the spa after participating in the Shamrock Run 2009. I read the reviews and said they can't be that bad, and to my dismay, they are that bad. I arrived 20 minutes early and the spa hadn't opened yet for my 11am appointment. So I should have know that I wasn't going to walk into a warm, relaxing, calming spa environment. The receptionist arrived 10 minutes before my appt and none of the staff was there to even begin setting up for my so called spa experience. I walked in right behind her as she was turning on the lights and computer. It was freezing cold, no heat, no candles, no relaxing sounds. My greatest fears had come true, the reviews were right. It was 11:10am and still no employees. I told the receptionist that I would stay for 1 or 2 services but there was no one to work on me. I then said that I wanted to cancel my appointment and she said she understood and that my card wouldn't be charged. Well two weeks after my canceled appointment they charged my card $185.00 for services never rendered after I was told that I wouldn't be charged for canceling especially since none of the staff was present for my 11am appointment. At 11:15 am they still weren't there. I finally talked with the owner Sarah who seemed to be an immature 18yr old confirmed with her yelling at me instead of acting like a business owner. She yelled that many people write bad review about companies everyday. I said of course they do and I ignored the ones I read about Spa Sasse and still showed up to my appt and discovered they were all true. Please don't go to this spa you will be disappointed in so many ways. I would suggest Dragontree, they are totally awesome. Cons: owner and staff are unprofessional and lacks spa atmosphere more

Overpriced under-satisfying 3/9/2009

My hubby and I wanted a romantic way to enjoy our anniversary, so we signed up for the Couples Spa Day. First we had to wait, then we were offered stinky robes and used sandles...gross. We were supposed to have a hydromassage bath together, but the tub only fit one of us it was so small. We had a massage that was supposed to have rose petals...which we paid extra for...and didn't get. (I could have paid for a regular couples massage if that's what I wanted.) Then off to a vichy shower treatment which apparently my therapist couldn't handle...he was breathing really hard the whole time...creepy. Then we were rushed into their extremely cramped dining room where we had a less-than desirable lunch and when I said I'd like champaign, they said they had white wine...champaign was in the list of what was offered online. The entire time we listened to the laundry room across the small hall, and people talking and laughing very loudly in the reception area. So much for romantic anniversary!!! They could not pay me to come back. Cons: After $400 spent no parking validation either. more

Be Prepared to Wait - Even when you have an appointment 10/24/2008

I have been to this spa 2 times. The first time was for a massage. Unfortunately they were running late. I stayed for my massage and it was okay. The second time, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and scheduled a manicure appointment. Once again, they were late. I was on my lunch hour. After waiting 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment, I needed to leave. This was a very big disappointment. Be careful if you have limited time. It was really nice that they offered tea, but it was luke warm. I hate writing a bad review, but this was my experience. more

Unprofessional, rude, unskilled 8/7/2008

I went in with my sister to get brow waxes because it was close to both of our offices. The ambience in the waiting room was OK (a little cheesy) but from the get-go the staff was rude, they did a terrible job with our waxes, they were unprepared, and to top it all off, it was incredibly expensive! This was not a relaxing spa experience. Pros: Downtown location Cons: service, very expensive more

Quite disappointing 4/23/2008

My daughter and I were very much looking forward to our facials. But Spa Sasse was disappointing from the moment we walked through the door. We were made to feel like we were interrupting the young man behind the counter. Then as we were led in to the back to fill out the paperwork, we were told we had to find our own pens because they were out. The waiting room consisted of two chairs in a very tight space. It was very definitely not clean or tidy or pleasant . There was none of the ambiance you expect in a day spa. The young woman who gave me the facial did not communicate to me whatsoever. At one point I asked if what she was using was chocolate, and she said,"It sure is!" and that was our total conversation. She left me alone, in the middle of the facial, for a very long period of time without explaining before or after where she was going. I've had facials before, and this lacked many elements of a typical facial experience even though this was one of their more expensive choices from the spa menu. Possibly I should have asked for someone with more experience. Rather than leaving there feeling relaxed and blissful, as has been my previous experiences elsewhere, I left feeling very taken advantage of. Pros: Open on Monday. more

a pretty big let down 3/26/2008

I was given a gift certificate for a facial to this place and was really looking forward to it. The website had me looking forward to being pampered ala celebrity style (many celebrities were name-dropped on their website. Needless to say, i was disappointed. I arrived about 30 minutes early, was brought back to a cold, dark waiting room with cheap slipcovers falling off of the matching sofas, an amateur sponge-painting job on the walls and a cup of luke-warm inexpensive tea (in a paper cup... in my beloved green Portland!) By arriving early, I had hoped to relax in a robe and slippers but one was never offered to me and there was never anyone around for me to ask. About five minutes _after_ my appointment was supposed to start, I went to the front desk and asked if they knew the status of my appointment, she responded "oh, she should be done soon." Finally someone came and got me and took me into the treatment room. It was very cluttered looking and the choice of teal sponge-painted walls with matching cheap wall sconces didn't give me the feeling of "luxury." The facialist was good - she did a great job actually. But I must say that the ambiance leaves much to be desired and I'm certain that the celebrites mentioned on their website never returned. Pros: Great facialist Cons: Ambiance leaves MUCH to be desired more

Miraculous massage! 2/23/2008

While on a business trip in Portland, I was in need of a good massage due to excessive air travel. Spa Sasse was perfect. I was able to get an appointment through my concierge right away, and it was just one block from my hotel. The staff greeted me with friendly smiles and offered a beverage and snack as I was escorted to the quiet area. My massage therapist was absolutely incredible! I walked in tired and sore, and walked out on air, feeling fantastic! The entire experience was perfect from the privacy of the spa to the staff to the miraculous massage. I have had many massages, this one was the best of all time. I will definitely be back. Pros: Convenient, relaxing, skilled more

Great Couples Massage 1/11/2008

I had scheduled a couples massage at Spa Sasse for my anniversary (dec. 31st). We had the entire day planned so you can imagine our disappointment when we received a call a few hours prior to our appointment letting us know that one of the massage therapist had called in sick and they didn't have anyone to take their place. We were able to reschedule for the next day (luckily we both had the day off from work) and the massages were fantastic! I had a male therapist and my husband had a female and they were well kept, thorough and respectful (all essential to a good massage in my book). My husband and I both had a lot of tension from work and the holidays but we were completely relaxed by the time they were finished. Also, we have both commented that the results lasted longer than any other massage we have had. I know some people didn't care much for the atmosphere, but I thought it was nice and tranquil enough. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the reschedule. I can understand stuff happens that we can?t control, but they didn't offer us anything to reciprocate for the inconvenience ? which is something they could control. For a spa that requires their customers to cancel within 24 hours of an appointment, or be charged the full amount anyway, I would like to think they would extend half the courtesy. Pros: excellent/ non-creepy massage therapist Cons: scheduling policies more

Unfinished Manicures 1/7/2008

Don't come here for a manicure. I brought a friend here for a manicure over Christmas break. We arrived a few minutes late and they were kind of enough to begin our manicures asap. The only thing was, when we were through and about to leave, we noticed neither of our nails had been fully painted. Hers were the worst, unfortunately. She pointed this out to the woman at the desk, but she kept saying they just needed to dry. She even rudely asked her if she wanted them fixed. My friend, then embarrassed, shook her head no and said it was fine. Once we were outside we realized it was worse than the dim lighting inside revealed. Literally, each of her nails had been painted in one strip of paint. The edges were left colorless. Pros: Great atmosphere inside, though they could have used some music. Cons: Poor quality service. more

Secret Oasis! 12/13/2007

One of the best things about Spa Sasse is that it is tucked away in the basement, and it feels like you have found a secret oasis! I went for the urban tan before a Christmas party, and it was a great experience! Having never been to a spa before and never having any sort of spa treatment, I was a little apprehensive as to what I would think about it. The spa is so calming and comfortable, and the staff is very friendly and professional. I need an excuse to go back! more

avoid worst service 11/2/2007

I called to get relaxing thermal tub before work. when i called it did notseem like the gentlemen on the phone was paying attention he forgot to ask for my name. When I arrived i was a little early but they got thetub ready, instead of having me use the changing room which I usually do theytold me I can change inthe tub room sense I was getting one service, the room is dark and no light .I look in the was very little water not even up to the jets and just plain water not even hot.needless to say I was very disaapointed. It seem like everyone working that day was clueless.I stay 10min got dressed for work in the dark and still nobody said anything I had to ask for place to comb my hair .I 'll never go back again. Pros: it downtown Cons: its dated more

Wonderful experience 10/23/2007

First of all, make sure you leave enough time to park downtown. I was going to park across the street but the parking structure was full as were most of the others in the area. After finding a parking garage, my sister in law and my self were a little late for our spa day. Never the less, the staff were really nice about it and got us back right away. We were not feeling rushed or anything. The European facial was very relaxing and the ultimate mani and pedi was very good as well. I had the same person, Amber, for all three treatments and she was a pro. Especially giving a great pedi to someone who is really ticklish on their feet! I highly recomend this spa. All staff were just personable and friendly. I felt really comfortable. Thank you for a relaxing afternoon. Pros: atmosphere, staff Cons: parking - too much construction downtown, leave enough time to get there more

Absolutely Divine! 10/23/2007

Divine Renewal is hands down the most relaxing and luxurious experience that you can offer yourself in the area and I would rate it over any of the spas that I've tried. My massage was amazing, and the facial itself was divine. My multi-talented therapist took the stress out of my body and beamed me right into heaven with the facial. She took the time to help me come up with a reasonable home care routine, and didn't push for me to buy things I didn't need. I was so relaxed, and my skin felt deliciously smooth. Treat yourself, you won't regret it! Pros: Great service, nice ambience, convenient parking lot more

LOVE Laser! 9/2/2007

Laser hair removal has worked wonders for me. I had very furry arms, and just four treatments is all it took to reduce my fuzz to the point that I feel comfortable showing my arms. I?m no longer embarrassed wearing sleeveless tops, and it has been such a great summer for me, it?s like having a whole new life! I also am working on my bikini, but that has taken longer, I?ve had 6 treatments and it?s better, but not gone yet. The staff at Spa Sasse? are very professional making the experience as relaxing as possible, and I enjoy the spa ambience. I highly recommend giving laser hair removal a try, I?m very happy I did! more
