Greatest Experience! 12/4/2006

I absolutely love Spa Sasse'. I had my second visit with them yesterday and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff and all that they offer. Kimberly did a wonderful job with my hair. I doubt that I have ever been this happy with any cut and style that I have ever had (even better than my first visit here, which was great also). That staff was very helpful with every question I had. They were also extremely friendly. I believe that my next experience will be for a mani-pedi, since I have never had one before. Also, be sure to check out the Dish line of products! How fun are these products! Great for stocking stuffers and gifts for almost anyone. Will be back before the end of the season to get gifts for the women in my family and for all of my female friends. Thank you all so very much for making my experience such a pleasurable one. Virginia Pros: A definite thumbs up for me! Close parking and great atmosphere. more

amazing relaxation! 10/15/2006

My husband and I attend Spa Sasse back in July. We did their couples package and it was amazing! They have a water room and treatment that is simply incredible! My family is in the massage therapy business and our experience topped it all. People were friendly, professional, patient and very good at what they do! I would and do recommend them to anyone and everyone! Pros: staff was incredible! Cons: parking not validated more

The perfect getaway in the city! 9/26/2006

My husband purchased (for my birthday) a couple spa package from spa sasse, and in all truth, because of my experience, we are ADDICTED to their spa treatments! Not only was the staff at spa sasse friendly, but they were welcoming. My husband and I aren't your typical 'spa goers' and it didn't seem to faze them that we came looking like our normal college-student selves. We had the most relaxing experience, leaving the hustle and bustle behind, we decended into a calm, serene atmosphere that engulphed us in warmth and hospitality. The lovely staff at spa sasse took care of our every need. We highly suggest the sea salt scrub-it is amazing!!! It starts by being doused in hot peppermint oil, then cooled down by icy sea salts gently massaged into your body, leaving you with the softest skin you've ever felt!! Incredible! more

A bit of Heaven in Downtown Portland 9/21/2006

I just came back from one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Spa Sasse's crescendo and massage is with out a doubt a bit of Heaven. I came in stressed and left feeling so relaxed that I can not imagine anything better. The people were wonderful and the ambience perfect. I even bought a couple of Dish bath bombs that I am going to try. They sound like fantastic fun!! Anyone wanting to know what heaven is like, should go to Spa Sasse" and try the Crescendo. It is truly amazing. more

Spa Sasse is the best place I've found to be pampered. 9/19/2006

I would like to comment on the previous rant. If clients had bothered to ask about the water, they would have been offered ice and told that room temperature water is best for one's health. Also there is lemon or lime in the water to spice it up. The spa is one of the largest in the city and there are many beautifully decorated rooms to hang out in. If clients are early for their appointments, they can relax and enjoy music, magazines and water or herbal tea, and wine in the evenings. My experience there has been delightful. The owner greeted me and did the best waxing on my eyebrows--so quick and painless. The massages are great and I saw a lot of high tech equipment when I was there. I loved the Dish products I got, especially the frappe. It soaks into my skin and stays all day. The bath bombs are so fragrent that guests comment on my powder room smelling wonderful. I only need to use a quarter of one for a moisturizing bath. May I suggest that customers talk to the owner or management if they have the least problem. I've found them to be excellent problem solvers and not bat an eye at eccentric requests. I wanted pizza and they're a spa, not a restaurant, but guess what? They went and got me pizza! People, speak up, no one can read your minds. The staff has asked me many times during check out how my visit was. They are receptive to constructive criticism, but as the public, it is our job to say what we want. And theirs to cater to us within reason. Spa Sasse is a wonderful place, has dedicated staff who like to get tips so they aim to please. Compared to other spas in town, it is by far my favorite place to splurge. Carole Abajian, MSW, LCSW Pros: friendly staff, location, decoration Cons: I don't get to go as often as I'd like. more

I agree with everything the others say and then some 9/15/2006

I was given a gift card of a substantial amount to Spa Sasse, so I have had several opportunities to see all aspects of this place, massage, manicure, pedicure, facial's and a horrid PEEL, the works...the first time, I dismissed how unfriendly and disorganized the place was, but the 2nd, 3rd and now the 4th and last time ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I am glad my gift card is DONE! I was given warm water (twice) like another reviewer, everyone there acts like it is an imposition that you are there(like other reviews), they are misleading about the "services" (they didn't explain that after a herbal facial, you can't wash your face for a week - minor detail), when I came in for a massage, I had to go ASK at the front desk with people coming in/out for MY CLOTHES BACK! The first regular facial I had a Spa Sasse was nothing special for $80, they just put a towel around my shirt and had me lay on the table!! My shirt was a greasy mess by the time I left! The person who gave me my bill at the reception desk was put off when I said I didn't want to leave more than a 10% gratuity, she said customary is 15-20%! I know that, but none of the services were worth it! To sum up this place, it is not a high-end, high quality day spa where you are treated well- I have been to several here in town before and this is not it; not with the staff, environment or the misleading services. Pros: Location, quality products sold Cons: Staff attitude, misleading information on services, disorganized more

Able to graciously accomodate my large bridal party! 9/13/2006

I searched all over Portland for a spa that could accommodate my bridal party of 12, that could not only accommodate us but also offer a variety of services for everyone to choose from quite a task as it turned out. Thankfully I found Spa Sasse on Citysearch! Everyone had a very nice time and were happy with their services. The ambience was very nice, and they were attentive to all our needs, and set out a nice array of munchies and beverages for us to enjoy. They were able to graciously accommodate a few last minute changes, but if they had not been able to, it would have been totally understandable. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for all of us. more

Not gonna do it again, especially if pregnant! 9/10/2006

I hate to complain but I have to go with another reviewer's thoughts when talking about rude staff that don't want to be there. I had had a terrible morning argument with my husband, a result of pregnancy hormones, and was really looking forward to my massage. I arrived 45 minutes early thinking that I could relax and read before my treatment considering that I am carrying an extra 30 pounds, until next month at least! The receptionist barely greeted me and practically chastised me for being early. My belly nearly popping out of my shirt, and the 80+ degree weather getting to me, I was looking for a more understanding repsonse, especially at an "urban oasis"! "You're REALLY early," the charming 'I know how to get more business' receptionist scolded me. I responded, "Well, you do have somewhere I can sit right?" Gulp. I guess I was interrupting her lunch hour or whatever it was she was doing for her job. She unhappily led me back to the sitting area and did not tell me where to change or keep my clothes, but did offer me some warm water. My masseuse was very friendly and understanding and the massage was good, however...I realize that pregnant people don't come in for massages everyday, but c'mon, you have to have more than one pillow in the house to offer them! My arms falling asleep and my back almost in worse condition than before the massage, I wish that I had researched a little more as to where to go for a relaxing, simple urban getaway where I don't need to be treated specially, but a little understanding would help! ....or at least make me want to go back! Pros: friendly masseuse, good music, plenty of magazines (if they let you stay to read them!) Cons: Remember "No soup for you!" from Seinfeld? The receptionist is his sister! warm water, no pillows or props for "special" situations more

Wonderful Experience, But still seeing it 3 days later 7/29/2006

I had a wonderful time at the spa with my boyfriend for my birthday, we got the couples day spa package and we both had an excellent time... the therapists were professional as was the other staff... My favorite was the salt glow treatment... The only complaint I have is that I wish someone would have told me to put my hair up or something to shield it from all of the oil, as it is three days later and after 5 washings i have still not been able to get it out, it is still comming off on my hands it disgusts me, it looks like I haven't taken a shower for a week... I asked when I made the appointment if there was anything I should know and nobody indicated I should put my hair up nor did anyone after I arrived... I have never been to any other day spa but I would recommend this one as the decor is beautiful, although a little loud at times for such a relaxing environment the walls are beautiful neutral colors and the candle light was beautiful in all of the rooms, the ceilings were a little plain but you can always just close your eyes for that... The lunch was very delicious it was a chicken ceasar salad with tea and truffles. The receptionist / cashier was very helpful upon leaving as I did not realize that I could not use my gift certificates for gratuity, she explained to me why and that i could use any other form of payment for the gratuity if I choose to. I am pretty certian I will be back, my boyfriend suggests maybe a facial so we will see, Ive never had one of those! Thank you for the wonderful first experience! Pros: Couples Packages Cons: Oil in my hair, Plain Ceilings more

A lack of professionalism and customer service 7/12/2006

I will not be returning to this spa (if you can even call it that). I was with a group of friends who must have come on the wrong day, maybe when the entire staff was PMSing. I encountered staff complaining to each other about how difficult their jobs were, in the middle of giving their treatment. And I heard staff saying how they didn't want to do a certain treatment, right in front of the customer. There was obviously a lot of tension in this place from staff and from the customers feeling uncomfortable about being there. I mean, we weren't in a doctor's office, a spa is supposed to be soothing and relaxing. I am disappointed that the staff were so unprofessional and lacked customer service and I'm disappointed that the owner let this go on. Maybe they don't care? All I know is that Spa Sasse has permanently lost 3 customers (and their friends and family). I'm not going to pay good money to feel so uncomfortable. more

service was lacking 7/7/2006

i enjoyed the atmospher, but after spenind two hours and two hundred dollers i was very unhappy with the massage and facial i recieved. The next day i did not feal like was at the spa the day before. I also found the recepetionist to be unprofessional by asking me to leave a tip, but even more so to make the comment that the amount i decided to leave wasent enought and took it apon herself to suggest an amount which i felt was to much. Pros: ambience Cons: service more

I love this place 7/5/2006

It's comfortable. The people are great, friendly, easy going and professional. It's relaxing. You forget that you're in the city, it's so quiet. I have recommended Spa Sasse' to many friends who agree that it is a fantastic find. Services I've recieved and recommend are massage, pedicures and the Crescendo - it's incredible! more

Divine Renewal IS Divine! 6/20/2006

I was given a gift certificate by my husband. A relaxing spa treatment was much needed and I had high expectations. I found the spa to be nice, very relaxing and the staff friendly and professional. The treatment was absolutely wonderful, and so appropriately named, it truly is divine! Highly recommended. Pros: ambience, parking, service more

Good spa - sort of 6/15/2006

I booked 3 services for my wedding day at the spa: massage, pedicure and hair style. I was delighted with the service that Sumiko provided for me on my pedicure and my hair. She did an outstanding job and I received a ton of compliments on my hair! She was a pleasure to work with! However, I was very disappointed in the service I received for my massage. I was at the spa on time but the massage therapist was over 30 minutes late (due to parade traffic which didn't seem to impact any other employees) and because of that I did not have time for the massage. Normally I wouldn't have minded that I wasn't able to get a service I had requested but it was my wedding day and I was really looking forward to the massage! I totally expected a call from the manager or someone apologizing but it's now a week later and I have not heard a word. Even with that, I would reccommend this salon because the services I did receive were great but I'd be cautious about booking a massage because you can't count on the therapist showing up! Pros: great pedicure massage chair, nice atmosphere Cons: downtown parking, therpist not showing up more

Not As Spectacular As Others Say 6/13/2006

I went to this spa for the first time to get my brows, lip waxed as well as a brazillian. The appointment was started on time and I was taken to a nice little room for the brow and lip services. The table was comfy and lighting was nice and there was soothing music. The lady did a thorough job on these. Then I was taken to another room that wasn't nearly as nice for the brazillian. It looked like a thinner version of a flat doctor's exam table. Very little padding on the table, there were dirty sheets on the table that had to be cleaned up right in front of me. And you have to lay on that same noisy thin paper stuff that they use at a doctors office. I've been to other spas to have a brazillian done and it's there's been nice plush tables with soft cottony towels to lay on instead of that crunchy paper. The person doing the service did an OK job. She missed a patch of hair that I later had to shave off myself. When she was done, she didn't let me check out what she had done to ask if I was happy with it and if I wanted her to touch anything up like all the other places I have been to for this service. She just splashed some oil on me and said she would let me rub it in myself and left the room. AND she took the towel that I was supposed to use to cover myself up as she left so I was left completely exposed to anybody who might have been outside the door (luckily nobody was out there). So if you want your brows waxed, they do a pretty good job. Getting a brazillian? I would recommend somewhere else. Pros: Relaxing atmosphere. Knowledgable staff. Cons: Overpriced. Unclean sheets. Parking. more

Lazer hair removal has brought me freedom 5/23/2006

I have had 2 lazer hair removal treatments. The results were exceptional, I am free of razor bumps and the razor. I plan on starting a new area of my body for further hair removal as soon as possible. Everything about the spa experiance has been incredible. I have enjoyed manicure pedicures and massage as well as the best hair cut of my life. more

pampering place 5/15/2006

I had a massage and a laser facial here, and got an excellent massage, which I expected. The thing I did not expect was such a pampering facial treatment. I've had these before elsewhere and have never been so pampered. I really enjoyed it overall, the entire experience was excellent and I will come back. Pros: pampering more

Stellar laser 5/9/2006

Ive been to several companies for laser hair removal, and I am by far the happiest with spa sasse. I get fast results, the staff is very professional and the atmosphere sure beats a doctors office! Ive had a few massages as well, theyre also fantastic. Pros: results!, staff, decor more

Tattoo Removal 5/9/2006

I had been researching tattoo removal in Portland and had just about given up on it untill I ran accross Spa Sasse on Citysearch. I was actually looking to get a facial and read that they did tattoo removal! The consultation was FREE (can't say that for the majority of the other places that do tattoo removal) and she was willing to do it that day, but I wasn't ready. I went back and got my first lazer treatment and it did cost me 249.00, but that is very good for Portland. I would reccomend this place to anyone for tattoo removal!! Cons: Need to adverstise! more
