Amazing Salon in Venice Beach! Mandee is the best! 12/14/2008

It had been years since my last fling with hair color. I asked Mandee if she thought I should enhance my auburn waves with highlights, lowlights, or both? None of the above she replied. Instead, she painted a semipermanent shade all over with a wide brush. The translucent tint preserved my own natural russet variations and left me with a lasting afterglow! Although I loved what Mandee did, I would completly recommend anyone who works at Sit Still! Pros: Great staff, Great location. more

Bad Experience getting worse! 12/13/2008

I am writing this in response to the post the owner of Sit Still wrote when my wife posted an honest review (read review ""Bad experience! ""by username Kund) about what happened at this salon.\r \r Writing flat out lies about me beeing embarassed in the salon when my wife demanded the money back after what they did to her hair is just wrong.\r I actually encouraged her to stay strong and be firm on that point since she had been there 3 times and spent 5-6 hours when they tried to get her hair back into an acceptable state. \r \r Even though it was settled by the manager that Tommy would be compensated for his work he and Mandee got into an argument about the initial tip right in front of all the costumers and THAT is what made everybody embarassed! \r \r I can't beleive I have to spend time writing this but I will NOT accept lies being posted about me. An owner of a business must realize that they can't please everybody and take responsibility for when things does not go as planned. My wife wrote an honest review without beeing mean and the owner responded by basically declaring her a BAD costumer that lies. \r \r I can only imagine what the owner will come up with in response to this. At this point we are done with this matter and hope that other costumers wount have to go through what we did. more

Hair worthy of multiple compliments. 12/12/2008

I'll be honest. My friend who's a guy goes here and I wasn't sure that they did women hair. So I went onto yelp and picked Merrielle out of the good reviews she had. UH SHE'S AMAZING. Not only is she precise, thorough and talented she's also pleasant to be around. She doesn't force conversation and doesn't talk your ear off. And she can blowdry out your hair like no ones business. I have really thick coarse long hair and she cuts and styles it perfectly. I go to work the next day and every single person compliments me. So she's a miracle. more

Best stylist in LA/Venice 12/5/2008

If you need a hairdresser that you know can cut and color ask for Tommy! I went in need of a huge color correction and came out very impressed! Not only since has he done a great job wioth my highlights and color I love the cut. I moved from San Diego and now finally after two years I can say I have a stylist! more

I've been bouncing around salons for a little while now. The rates salons are charging these days... you'd think they were performing brain surgery. BUT this place rocks! Ask for TOMMY to do your color! He's REALLY good! Fast, confident, friendly, listens to what you want before diving in. And even fixed the botched up job I got from the last place I went to. more

Audrey was the best 11/15/2008

Audrey had an amazing eye for style and actually cut my hair for my busy on the go schedule- a cut where I can wash and go. All the other cuts I have had require a lot of work which I rarely have time for. I have received tons of compliments and can't wait to go back. An added plus, she was super nice and down to earth. I felt like 100 bucks when I walked out of there. Audrey was simply amazing- which says a lot coming from me as I've gotten my haircut all over LA. Pros: Audrey, detail, great color, awesome cut more

Jennifer was fantastic!! Cutest hair cut at a totally great price!! 11/14/2008

I read so many great reviews of Sit Still on City Search I decided to check it out for myself. I saw Jennifer and she was terrific. Very friendly (and stylish!), we talked through exactly what I wanted to do with my hair (Charlotte Gainsbourg bangs and a trim). After less than an hour I walked out with EXACTLY what I had wanted. It cost only $44 because I was a first-timer and told them I read about them on City Search. I'm not sure how much it costs regularly, but whatever it is I think it's worth it. Pros: Jennifer!! Same-day appointment. Great first-timer discount. Cons: None. more

Finally a place that knows how to cut curly hair!!!!! 10/24/2008

Having thick, curly hair, getting the right haircut is crucial. I've always had fried hair from constant styling and I've never been able to find someone who can actually cut curly hair to make it look healthy. Every other place I've ever gone to has either destroyed my hair color (everyone seems to forget that curly hair and straight hair have to be highlighted differently) or has cut my hair into a horrible triangular mess. That is until I came to Tommy at Sit Still. Not only did he know exactly what I wanted, but he understood all the problems I've been having with a full head of curly hair. He cut my hair beautifully in concave layers and explained those were the best for my hair. He also saved me from a highlight job gone wrong, where I had asked to lighten my hair for the summer and the woman ended up giving me horrible chunky blond streaks. He went through and added some color to tone it down and evened it out and it looks great! I've gotten so many complements. I'm now a die-hard Sit Still supporter!!! Pros: Amazing highlights, great curly hair cuts, fabulous and friendly staff Cons: a little pricey -- but worth it more

Better Looking Blonde 10/3/2008

I went to Sit Still and the minute I sat in Tommys chair he gave me his professional advice and said my hair was too blonde. I told him the idea of going darker wasnt too apealing, but he assured me that he would simply warm up my cool platinum strands with a butter basecoat and a scattering of golden highlights for depth and dimension. The result was a natural, glittering shade that looked almost too good to be true. I highly recommend Tommy and Sit Still more

No Fear, Sit Still is Here 9/23/2008

I used to be a scardy-cat when it came to highlights (because I had a traumatic experience getting brassy tiger stripes) but Jennifer calmed my nerves by suggesting a suble color that would flatter my skintone. She applies very thin highlights around my face. My hair looked soft and natural but with a new radiant complexion. I have already recieved so many compliment, I will not stray from Sit Still Pros: thorough consultation - they listen to you more

Haircut time 9/16/2008

I went back to Sit Still for the second time a week or two ago. I waited for 30 minutes before I got to sit down due to the lateness of the client in front of me. (I did get a hair mask while I waited, though.) Tommy did my hair this time around. He cut it, and it looked ok after my blowout. I went home and decided that I really just wasn't happy with it, after about a week. I called back to let someone know that I wanted it fixed and I went in the same day to have Tommy fix it. (I waited for 30 minutes again (after my appointment time) to have him come help me.) He was very nice about me wanting my haircut revised. He took a little more off, and I am more happy than I was originally. (There was no charge to have him fix it.) It's not my fave haircut of all time, but it will do. When it grows in a little more, I am going to make an appointment with Audrey. She gave me the BEST haircut the last time I was in. \r So, in all, I still love the salon very much. I didn't have the greatest experience with Tommy- although it wasn't terrible. And, I can't wait to go back to see Audrey. Local Colorist 9/15/2008

Time flies when your having fun, but it tends to stand still when your in the salon chair - until now. Tommy quickly weaved carmel hightlights around the crown and added the same shade to my ends to give my long hair a sun-kissed boost. Thanks to his speedy hands, I was out the door and on my way in less than an hour and a half and with my color looking head-tuning great. more

Jennifer has the magic touch!!! 9/11/2008

Just want to let everyone know how much I love my hair stylist - Jennifer. I started going to Jen about two years ago when I was referred to her by a friend. It was a match made in heaven! My color is perfect every time and the cut is amazing, it's got great bounce and shape. Jen does such a great job. and she's such a sweetie. I moved to Arizona last year for work, but come back to Venice every time I need to get my hair done. Jennifer is the only one I trust with my hair. I tell her all the time- I get stopped at least 3-4 times a day by people complimenting me on my hair. I just wish I could refer some of these people in Phoenix to her. Great Energy/Music/Art 9/9/2008

I just moved to the area about a year ago and had my first trim last week to get the do fixed up. I was growing it out so i knew i needed some length off.. and a little bit more of a sexi edge.. it was getting dull. It was my first time so i got a discount and a great new stylist, Tifanie! She directed me to exactly what i was hoping for and i walked out feeling ready to mingle. :D She's takes extra care to detail, which i loved, she didnt just hack into what I'd spent the last year growing. First Time Customer 9/8/2008

After looking for some good deals I decided on Sit Still (first time discounts are a steal). When I called the girl on the phone was very sweet and took her time listening to me and pairing me with the right stylist. When I went in for my cut Tommy gave me some great ideas/suggestions to totaly vamp up my color. The price was good so I did do both my cut and color and I have gotten so many compliments on it!! I really love Sit Still and I really recommend Tommy to anyone! more

Bad experience! 9/6/2008

I went in for some partial highlights and my stylist was Mandee. My hair turned out orange so she put a toner over it which unfortunately turned my hair into a muddy green color. I went back a week later to do a color correction. I was not sure about doing more highlights so soon but Mandee did a few and put a new toner in my hair. This time my hair turned violet!!\r Mandee seemed like a really sweet girl but unfortunately she messed up my hair pretty badly. (It's not fun when friends ask: ""what the h*** have you done to your hair"")\r The manager asked me to come back to see Tommy because she was sure he could help me. Tommy thought my hair was a mess and suggested that we color the hair brown. Tommy did a good job even though my hair ended up really dark brown. The manager offerd me my money back and said she was sorry for what had happend to my hair. Even though I felt miserable for leaving with a darkbrown haircolor and a hair that was really damaged I felt ok because I only lost $40 in tip (and time). As soon as the manager left the conversation and the receptionist was about to give me my money back they were all confused about who was paying who and I just felt really embaressed about the whole situation and wanted to leave. It was very unproffesional! Needless to say, I wont ever go back. Some off the people working at ""Sit still"" I'm sure are very proffesional and I know for sure they are friendly but unfortunately that did not help me. more

Pattie Rocks - Best Highlights in Venice 8/4/2008

I've been coloring and highlighting my hair for many years. My natural color is dark brown and have attempted to lighten my hair/go blond several times to no avail. Past attempts made by supposed top color specialists have resulted in brassy to gold, tacky & unhealthy looking highlights. I made one last attempt at Sit Still and was fortunate enough to find Pattie. She gave me the perfect ashy blond, natural looking highlights I had desired for years and fabulous long layers. In addition to creating a perfect end product; Pattie was incredibly quick. The hair cut, highlights (full head, not partial) and a blow-dry took 2 hours. I have long, thick hair and the experience normally takes much longer. Pattie is amazing. I returned the other day for a touch up (over 6 weeks later) and was equally satisfied. The location (Sit Still), has a very laid-back vibe. You'll sip on tea while listening to great music. The staff is friendly and you end up feeling like you're hanging out with friends. If you want amazing highlights, ask for Pattie and she'll work her magic. more
