Great Experience 10/25/2010

I was looking for a new stylist and I found Derrick. He is great! He listens to me and has suggestions but the end results is what I want not what he envisions. The atmosphere at Salon Dacota is very relaxing and I love the shampoo room......gives me time to unwind while Derrick gives me a wonderful shampoo. At my last visit I bought Eufora shampoo and condition and I can't say enough about these products. My hair is straight, heavy and has no body so most products weigh it down but not these. My overall experiences so far have been excellent and I would recommend Derrick and this salon to anyone. Patty D more

service needs to be more consistent across the board 10/24/2010

Although I have now been to Salon Dacota 4 times, I’m still waiting to be wowed by my experience. My hair is straight, fairly thin, ranges from shoulder length to right under the ear lobes, and pretty easy to work with. I never color it or get it styled too wild so I’m generally a pretty easy client.\r \r My first cut at the establishment was with Chrissy, one of the co-owners and a “master level” stylist. I should have known I was in the wrong place immediately when I TOLD her -- not asked for her permission or sought her opinion – that I wanted bangs and her reply was “They take a really long time to grow out.” As a stylist and a co-owner of the salon, I would hope that she would try to work out challenges with clients’ requests with more well-thought responses in the future. She gave me no guidance in how to style my new ‘do after she cut it as I had requested in my initial questionnaire (such a waste of time since she didn’t read it AT ALL) and simply asked me if I wanted any product as she took me to the register rather than telling me about the product and really SELLING IT to me. She might as well have asked if I wanted fries with my order since she showed no desire to learn about my needs and was basically rushing me out the door.\r \r My second visit is what is keeping me coming back. After my less-than-stellar appointment with Chrissy, I tried a new stylist. My new stylist, Vella, really wanted to learn more about my hair needs and even made sure to explain what types of products she used on me throughout our time together. She went in depth about how/why certain products are beneficial for my hair in particular and even helped me find a new shampoo and conditioner from the Eufora line they carry in the salon. It was so nice to have a customized experience! Additionally, when I told her I wanted bangs, she told me that I would never have super-full bangs since my hair is thin, but she showed me what the bangs would look like before cutting. It was great having such positive feedback to my requests! \r \r The only disappointment from this cut came when Vella told me to come back to get my bangs re-trimmed before my next actual cut and mentioned it would be FREE! I was ecstatic that the salon offered such a great deal! When I came back, Derrick took care of my bang-trim and was a delight to work with! He even gave me some great tips on what I should do to style my hair for an upcoming wedding I was going to be attending! I was only disappointed when the front desk charged me $15 for the trim. It’s just $15, but it’s the principal. In the future I will not fall for their little “FREE bang trim” more so because the menu is not posted anywhere in the building.\r more

I was looking for a salon while awaiting cancer treatment. Katie in the gift shop at the St. Louis Cancer & Breast Institute recommended Salon Dacota. I was given a free hand waxing treatment and was given a superb wash by my stylist Bobbi who massaged my scalp. i was very pleased with the style he gave me. The atmosphere was relaxing and friendly. more

Great Service and Stylists! 10/18/2010

I just moved to the area and was looking for a place to that could really style my hair. I am a really picky person especially when it comes to my stylist. I made an appointment with Erica and was so pleased with how my hair turned out. I didn't give her a lot of details about what I liked but it turned out better than what I was even asking for. My hair looked great after she had styled it and also after I had styled it myself a few days later. The salon was great everyone was friendly and I was so glad that Erica didn't push the products down your throat like a lot of other places, she made great recommendations but wasn't pushy. Overall, I was very pleased with Erica and Salon Dacota. I will definitely be returning! more

I was wanting to update my hair cut and style. I had the same look for a number of years. Chrissy helped me find a whole new look. She explained it completly, telling me how to fix it with ease. I loved my new look and it is very easy to manage and style. This was my first time to the salon, and I was very impressed with the time Chrissy spent with me to get things just right. more

Flat Lifeless Hair Help! 10/4/2010

I just got my haircut at Salon Dacota with Derek. He was great. Derek helped me pick a style that I should have and he went over everything I needed to do to keep my hair shiny and keep the style he a gave me. He showed me how to do my hair at home. The products are great and he is very knowledgeable about the products, color and style. more

Wonderful Experience 10/1/2010

I could go on and on about my visit to Salon Dacota but I will just give you the highlights. My appointment with Derrick was for a cut and all over color; and I was impressed by his customer service. He actually sat down with me and we talked about the issues I had with my hair, the current products I was using and what hair color would suit me best. When he washed my hair it was one of the most relaxing experiences I have ever had, he did not just wash my hair he massaged my scalp and I could have fallen asleep. He took the time to talk about the products he was using on my hair, how to use them and what he suggested I needed. My hair looked awesome from the cut to the color and style. I cannot brag enough about Derrick on here; I just moved from LA and have had MASTER stylists who have done celebrities hair and none of them measure up to Derrick; from his customer service to his skill. He made me feel like a valued client and took his time with me. Also the products he recommended for my hair care are wonderful, my hair is softer, shiny and feels wonderful. The salon staff is friendly and I even received a follow-up call the next week to see if I was satisfied, I have never had a Salon do that. Super Stylist 9/29/2010

I have to admit that I waited until after my second appointment to write this review because I wasn't quite sold after my first. I did love the cut, but I found it kinda hard to style, and the color was a little brassy because my hair grabs the red in any hair color. Anyway, I went back right away to get the Eufora hair products -- pricey, but definitely worth it -- and was able to style my hair much better. On my second appointment, Erica was able to get the brass out of my hair, adding pure blond highlights and some low lights, and now I love the color! It's really better than it's ever been, and I actually get compliments on my hair now, which is a first for me.\r \r Erica is also terrific with my kids. My five-year-old daughter's new layered haircut is much easier to manage and she now takes pride in brushing it herself! My ten-year-old son, who doesn't like his hair to look too perfect, is happy because it doesn't have that ""just-cut"" look when he leaves the salon. Plus, Erica gives free bang cuts in between appointments!\r \r The downside is that I am spending more on my hair than I'm used to spending, but as long as I can afford it (knock on wood), I will continue to go to Erica and Salon Dacota and scrimp somewhere else!\r \r more

Britney Breakdown Intervention 9/27/2010

I had just about had it with my extremely curly and outdated camaro hair and was going to (as Chrissy at Salon Dacota put it ) ""Pull a Britney"" ie - shave it all off. I am happy to say that after my appointment with Chrissy I will never consider shaving my head again, nor will I consider going anywhere but Salon Dacota. Chrissy is an extremely talented person and obviously loves what she does!!\r When I met with Chrissy, she spent the first ten minutes listening to me gripe and then offered suggestions. She explained step by step the products she was using and the best way to style my curly, frizzy hair. Needless to say the haircut I received was AMAZING, the best one I have ever had. Chrissy cut and styled it exactly how I had explained it to her and I have received numerous compliments since getting it cut this past Saturday. Not only am I a Salon Dacota client for life, but I will be scheduling a hair appt for my teenager daughters Homecoming. more

My hair is basically a disaster, at best. I had an appointment with Derrick and he has taken it from disaster to fantastic! Not only have I received numerous compliments but I have renewed faith in my hair again. Derrick was great, he sat down with me and discussed what I liked and disliked about my hair and came up with a plan. I am so glad I found this place!! more

I have been searching for a new salon for a year after my sylist left her job. I went on City Search to read reviews so I decided to make an appointment with Bobbi. He was fantastic. We had good conversation, lots of laughs and he did a great job on my highlights and cut....oh and not to leave out my eyebrows which look better than ever! I think I have found my new home! more

I walked in wanting to cut my long hair much shorter and wasn't sure if I'd like it, but Erica did a great job! She cut it shorter in the back and longer in the front so it has more volume and used an antifrizz product that really helped tame the static in my hair for the rest of the day. I will definitely be coming back here!!! more

Erica did a fabulous job on my hair! I have never experienced anyone taking so much time and attention to cutting layers and making sure it looks 'just right'!\r \r When I left the salon, I went shopping and the first person I met told me she loved my hair (!) and wanted to know who cut mine! So, Erica, you got a referral in less than 15 minutes!\r \r more

Ive been bouncing back and froth between salons for quite sometime and have gotten decent haircuts sometimes good sometimes not. I decided to give Salon Dacota a shot after getting tired of inconsistent cuts. First, the atmosphere there is awesome and really relaxing and laid back. I decided to go with Derrick, right away I could tell he knew what he was doing. For the first time I can say Ive found a great stylist who actually cares about their skills being on top, and loves their job. If the other stylists are as good as Derrick id have to say that Salon Dacota is one of the best salons around. Thanks Derrick. more

My stylist was Erica. She did a great job! I went in and told her this issues with my hair and to do whatever she thought would be best. I had long hair and when she was done, I had a hair cut that came to about my chin. I really like it and I thought she did a great job with my highlights as well. She listened to what I wanted and I have had no problems styling my hair since I got it done. Thanks Erica! more

Ok, full disclosure. By writing this review, I'm getting $15 off my next haircut. But I'm definitely going back - so it merits a good review! I just moved to the area and always dread having to find a new stylist; I'm so relieved to have found a new home on my first try (thanks to all the other positive citysearch reviews!). Derrick cut and styled my hair. I was pleased with the cut and the service I received. I made another appt with Derrick already and plan to make more in the future. Great Haircut 8/20/2010

Derrick Nedley styled my hair. I have fine straight hair, he made feel confident with his abilities to do the style that was right for my hair. He also took the time to show me how to blow dry my hair for the cut and what products to use. I couldn't be more pleased with my cut and the way my hair feels. I already made my next appointment. more
